Dead Or Alive 3 | | Joshua Webb from Hampshire, England says (4/Aug/2003): | I may be 12 years old, but I still remember when the whole point of fighting games was getting a mate round and standing, face up to the screen locked in a neck by neck contest of seeing who is the best at learning 47 button combos. DOA3 is very different. It is overally the future of all fighting games. And to all you experts out there, it has a new revoulutionary system that makes Tekken look like an empty wrapper down a dark alley. It has a counter system designed to stop newbies kicking the hell out of full trained pros by hammering away at the face buttons. Or in simpler terms, if your enemy is just hitting the Y buttons, just press x with the corresponding direction you can grab them mid-punch and send them a one-way ticket to the hall of shame. But wait, there's more. Compare Tekken 4 with DOA3 and you will probably have already dropped Tekken 4 out the window for the dog to chew. The graphics are almost REAL-LIFE, pushing the XBOX to its limits. You probably will find no PS2 or Gamecube game that stands up to the so-high standard of Microsoft and Team Ninjas DOA3. Listen to me readers, DOA3 is much better than Tekken. Moving on to the subject, the gameplay and controls are exellent. A real gem. Aanndd... There is something else, play on the DOATEC HQ or Lorelei or the Lost World, pack a powerful punch and you can send them smashing through windows, off cliffs, and through banisters. Some other levels have electric fences, the perfect way to 'hammer' through your opponents health bar. So, unlike any other fighting game, the scenery plays just as big a part as the gameplay.
Believe me, you will enjoy it just as much as I did.
Enjoy the game!
| great fighting game with girls that kick high | | knives from Nebraska USA says (20/Aug/2003): | okay not much can beat this game as of fighting games it was sweet moves kwel charaters and girls that kick high lol but each charater has there own story and there own ending move the levels are pretty big with things that break apart and things ledges to throw ppl off of the graphics are pefect theres not a fighting game out there that can beat doa3 and the doa boobie jiggle
| READ THIS!!! | | Andy says (14/Mar/2003): | Graphics: Heh. They said Halo has the best graphics on X-Box.. Boy were they wrong. DOA 3's graphics defines the Box. The best part of the game is watching the cinimatics(preferable Christie and Helena.)
10 out of 10
Sound: The sound is okay. Sometimes when you play as Tina there is an echo when you do one of her moves.
8 out of 10
Playability: The game was short, but I still have fun playing the game over again. The Survival mode is a huge challenge, which adds up to the playability.
Overall: This game is great. Every X-Box owner should own this game.
| better than tekken 4 | | brandon from RICHMOND,VA says (19/May/2003): | i think doa3 is better than tekken 4 because you can kick people of the cliff knock people though wall and has a better story than tekken 4 AND TEKKEN GRAPHICS are ok but doa3 graphics are the bomb. i think doa3 is the best fighting game in the world
| Just as cool as dead or alive xtreme beach volleyball! | | Taylor Yeates from Wales says (3/Sep/2003): | I played this game at my cousins house when it first came out and thought it was simply the best. The graphics looked like real life, the gameplay was amazingly fast and the girls are really beautiful! It has so many different modes like survival, team battle, tag battle and story which without a doubt will keep you playing for ages. I have dead or alive xtreme beach volleyball (which is even better trust me!) and will definitely be buying dead or alive 3 on september 6th which is only a few days away, i cant wait!
| Dead or Alive rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Cubbilicious from San Mateo,California says (29/Oct/2003): | Not only was this game better than any other fighting game I knew, but the graphics, the graphics stunned me/ so beautiful! I mean if you did compare these graphics with any other games- Dead or Alive would win. I looooooooooooooooooove this game! The extreme game play is mesmerizing to the eyes. It is a true masterpiece, if you don't mind my saying, but I want a fighting game to verse Doa and I would like to see who can beat Doa, I mean come on. You need to by this game. The graphics are good because it's on xbox too, know wonder there's no power greater than the X..........THIS GAME IS TRULY THE FUTURE OF ALL FIGHTING GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
| If it wasn't for English... but the game is Great. | | Brad Felizardo from Luanda, Angola says (15/Mar/2004): | _ Graphics _
Team Ninja now moved to XboX to show a more powerfull side of their skills. It's good, even on PS2 DOA2 already had amazing graphics, now prepare to see more than that, i mean really. You'll sure notice about how much the graphics are, just looking at Jann-Lee you'll notice that his face changed, now he looks more like a real guy, and many other fighters are improved. What will really make you respect the game is the quality of the end movies, intro, etc, and much more! If you explore a bit the stages you'll figure the gamemakers have done a really great work, they really used their attention for details. Now the bad things about the graphics, well, i don't have much to regret about the graphics, but i don't know, somehow, something tells me they had a more "DOA-smooth-style" on the graphics of DOA2 of PS2, that happens when i remind of stages like the "White Storm" "The DOA2 Danger Zone", "Dragon Hills", "Aerial Garden", etc, so sometimes i dunno but i prefer to play DOA2. Christie is the fighter with the best ending movie, kindda shows to you with style how a real modern assassin lives.
_ Sounds _
Oh, this is it. But why they all speak japanese? This really made the game not too great like i expected, we need english!!! Many players aren't too cool because of this. Players like Zack, Bass, Bayman, Helena, etc, aren't cool because they don't spell english, this was a big mistake. On the PS2 version you could choose between japanese or english voices, but here not! And just think about how the new players like Christie, Brad, could be really cool if they could speak english, man, i don't play the game "that" much because of this. They changed the face of Tina, i think it was to make her look like a real american girl, i never liked her too much, but her voice on DOA2 is really cool, so, sometimes i play with her on DOA2, but here in DOA3 she speaks japanese and looks like a japanese pre-teen, she isn't cool anymore, like many players, even Ayane, Hayate, aren't too cool anymore. I know they used to say some senseless things on DOA2, but i prefer that.
_ Gameplay _
A lot of new moves, this is what really makes the game greater than DOA2. But where is my sweet "Battle Rec. Mode"? My mistake, isn't greater than DOA2 then... Story mode was improved, but without english isn't "that" great. And like i said, there are new fighters, new moves, so you better be ready for new hot vibrations, because fighters like Jann-Lee, Kasumi, Bayman are so hot now. I quite enjoy playing with fighters like that Christie (dangerous snake-like fighting style), Brad Wong (the drunk master, if it wasn't for english i could say he is more cool than Steve Fox and Lei from Tekken4 at the same time), etc. But man, still a pain some end movies. What's up with Brad? He stopped drinking to live with flowers or something? And Hayate, life isn't to be jumping trees and playing with shurikens all the time, a "man needs to be a man", wich meens to study and get some official job, we all need ninjas for movies and things like that but you don't need to take it too seriously and live your life like a movie. I was sad when i saw Ayane crying... but that's ok... Now i heard Microsoft helped Team Ninja for developing this game, oh, c'mon, that was critical because i can't see what i really expected for this game, my game is PAL so why are they speaking japanese? And i don't know how to unlock more costumes, somebody got to tell me.
| As real as it gets | | A gamer from Pompano, FL USA says (22/Jun/2002): | DOA 3 is a definite awe-inspirer from the second you fire up your xbox, the infatuation fades after a few hours, but still a remarkable game. The single most noticeable drawback to the title is the lack of worthwhile, have you coming back, modes. The story mode is short and pointless, its only saving charachteristic is the two shorts movies per fighter that you cannot see elsewhere in the game (the manifestation of Hayabusa in the Forest is amazing no matter how many times you watch it). There are not many secrets to unlock, one new fighter (Ein) and some new outfits, but that fact I do not mind so much because there is already 16 solid charachters to fight with from the beginning. The gameplay itself though is, in my humble opinion, unrivaled in the market. The realism of the moves is what sets this game apart from other titles such as tekken. You may be able to steal a couple hits while your opponent is off the ground, but you cannot pumple him with annoying jabs and extra 5 hit combos (if you have ever tried punching someone as they are flying through the air, it is rather difficult). Each fighter has a barrage of attacks and combos, and the throws and counters are as equally entertaining to watch as they are effective. The multi-level stages allow for more expansive battles, but the exploding areans can become tiresome, especially if you are the one being repeatedly bashed against them. My biggest complaint though is the perspective view during the last battle with Genra. I know they were trying to be creative, but it just does not work, it completely erases any technique from the bout, your only option is to revert to simple punk/kick combos because, quite frankly, you cannot see well enough to try anything else. That is another downfall of the story mode, but the end movies you unlock afterwards are more than worth the 30 seconds you spend button mashing to defeat Genra (which is the final villian why again? I must have missed that in the storyline). But after the movies, if you are anything like me you will spend most your time either in time attack or survival mode honing in on your skills so you can thrash your friends latter on in versus mode. In my humble opinion, DOA 3 is the best in ring realistic combat to date, it is a little shallow in substance, so I only rate it 9 out of 10. It is better than tekken, it is better than virtual fighter... its only competition is Soul Calibur, which many believe to be the best ever 3D fighting game. Here is where personal preference comes into play: Soul Calibur is an absolute landmark in storyline and differing, enthralling gameplay modes... but it is spearheaded by weapons; DOA 3 on the other hand is routed in the mastery or hand to hand combat, an art to watch, but lacks the depth of Soul Calibur, but does surpass Calibur in graphics (as well as any other game out there for any system). DOA 3 as a game in general is not perfect, but once you are in the ring, its simply divine.
| BEST-GAME-EVER | | MO Semakieh from Peoria, IL USA says (5/Mar/2003): | this game is awsome i love it the graphics is great the gameplay rocks when i use to have tekken i said it was the best game ever but not anymore mortal kombat was kind of good but still it sucks compared to the dead or alive 3 i play it 2 hours a day i had it for 1 year and still playing it what i dont like about this game is that omega i hate that guy his so cheap i like the way in takken when they put devil (tekken 2) as the last guy but still every thing else is awsome and beside its know $29.99 i dont belive it. so who ever like fighting games get this trust me
| KICK ASS GAME! | | A gamer from Burnsville, Minnesota says (11/Mar/2003): | DOA3 is one of the best fighting games i've played. The graphics are very realistic and so are the girls. It's very creative that every person has their own fighting style because sometimes when i play a game they all have the same fighting style. I think next time they come out with a new fighting game they should add Tae Kwon Do. Thanx for taking the time to read my message. Seeya!
| It was great@ | | Jack Reeds says (5/Mar/2003): | DOA was the best series ever! Doa3 was a little short on what they should have done(like translations :P) And Tengu was way cooler than Omega could ever be! They game play was kool and the secret character Ein rocks (Also really cheap) Overall Doa3 was the best even though DOA2 was pretty kool. You guys sghould also try the DOAX (Dead ior Alive Extereme Beach Volleyball)
Never have the babes of DOA looked better (espicially Helena or Tina :)
| The true future of fighting games. | | Ryan from Greenfield, Indiana, USA says (16/May/2004): | When I first got this game I was more than a little dissapointed. The reason I got the game was because of the really good reviews that the gaming magazines I read had given it, and because of Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Anyway, when I first got it I started trying out different characters to find one that I liked. When I was fighting the computer controlled characters they did something that I really didn't like. I would throw a punch or kick at them and they would counter it. What the hell?! I had never played a fighting game with countering moves like that, and I found it really annoying. Then, when I tried to counter their moves I could never get it to work half of the time. But, I kept playing and I got better, and I was able to see how much depth it added to the game. A veteran player could through a button masher newbie's attacks right back in their face! The graphics on this game are phenomenal, some of the most realistic looking graphics I've ever seen. The tag team battles are my favorite part of the game, I especially like how you can switch by using the grab button to do a team move. I really wished this game could be played on Xbox Live, and that is why I can not wait to get Dead or Alive Ultimate. The story mode was a little short and there wasn't enough unlockable content (only one unlockable character and a few outfits). The end boss was one of the worst I have ever seen. I specifically did not like how the camera angle changed and the boss was able to shoot projectiles. He was also too easy to kill. The characters are all really well balanced and have different fighting styles, and a large variety of moves and combos. The sound is really good because of the great music but the one thing that I had a problem with was that no one spoke any English! The only spoken language was Japanese! I would have liked it if their had been an option to choose the language you wanted. After a while though, I didn't mind it at all and kind of liked it. After all, a fighting game should not be rated by what language is spoken in it. Overall, though this game is awesome and should NOT be passed up if you own an Xbox. This truly is, the future of fighting games.
| Dead or Alive 3 is good for now.... | | Tommy Cheese from Sixty Five USA,Cheese Road says (3/Jan/2002): | Dead or Alive was always a series of great fighting games at first only. They all get boring after an hour because of the repeative combos and the lack of game modes. I am proud to say that this game isnt bad but it is the same thing as Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore. The only difference is that there are new endings, a few new charecters, new outfits and new areans. It has pretty cool combos but it dissapointed me to see that alot of them didnt change from the other Dead or Alive games. It has really great graphics though. The modes in this game are: c.j gallery ,tag mode and story mode (the stories really suck though and the music in this game is bad). This is more like a rental.
| -=Dead or Alive 3 Review=- | | Susanne from Sydney says (23/Aug/2002): | Dead or Alive 3 is the only one of the series I've played before, so I dont know if things have really changed from the last 2 games. What I do know, the the graphics are heaps good, and so is the way they move. Everything seems so smooth on this game. The music isn't that good though, and it does get annoying. I think what would make it far better is at the end of each battle, the winning person or persons say something in a caption. It would be much better if they actually said it, and had the captions along with it. I would not recommend buying this game - once again, it is one of those games that get really boring after a while, so therefore, it gets spider-webs all over it on the shelf!!! Renting is a great idea, and I think it is really interesting once you play it. After you achieve what you want to achieve in this game, you dont want to play it anymore - well, thats what I feel. If you are playing against a real person, you sit on the edge of your seat, or lean closely against the TV screen whilst you are playing! Your hands start to sweat and when you lose, you oftern say something like, "You were just lucky" or, "I let you win..." etc.
It is so gripping that nearly everyone I know does that! The pictures are quite realistic, but when the players fall down to the ground, it doesnt look that real.
***A helpful hint for most players of Dead or Alive 3 -- When you select your players for Tag Battle Mode, you are more likely to succeed if you pick the people directly opposite eachother. For example, if you pick Bass in Tag Battle Mode, you are more likely to see the team work together if you pick Tina, the girl opposite Bass.*** So, to summerise this all up, I think Dead or Alive 3 is nearly as good as it gets!
| New system wonder | | Sentinel from Tasmania, Australia says (5/Oct/2002): | DOA3 is a remarkable game. The music is great for a fighter and the graphics are smooth. I would easily have given this game 10/10 except that Temco have given the characters too many combos. This allows for easy button mashing and not much practice. DOA3 also suffers from a lack of story line, a common thing among all fighting games.
| Best Game ever played. | | Dave from Peoria Illinois USA says (13/Nov/2002): | Doa3 Is the Best fighting game i ever played. Yeah it has its Draw backs like the story mode is stupid but i like the ending Videos. And the Graphics r the best ive seen in Fighting Games so far. DOA3 is way better then tekken. I havent played soul caliber yet so i cant compare it to that. But Doa3 is the best Fighting game so far.The character disigne is really great. The brest bounce beutifully. The hair and lothes have the most realistic movement then ay other fighting game ive played. And the Fire on the ending Videos for Tina and Lie Fang look as reall as Xbox games can get way better then any fighting game on Ps2. Ill just put it this way DOA3 is the best Fighting game ever Played.
| The last stage sucks, the rest is gorgeous | | Crispijn Neirynck from Hooglede, Belgium says (24/Nov/2002): | The game is just fantastic, the graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is very good. The only very bad thing about the game is the last stage. The fight against 'the big boss' is just so unrealistic and absolutely not fun to do. The nice thing about DAO3 is that everything is very realistic (some moves aren't, but what the hell), the last fight in the storymode just spoiles it all. Otherwise the game would deserve a ten.
| The best fighting game out there | | Derek from Massachusetts, USA says (28/Nov/2002): | Doa3 has to be the best fighting game ever. The graphics are excellent the gameplay rocks (although some moves arn't that realistic.) I can't take this game out of my xbox. The lifespan of this game is at least 3 months. There isn't a best part of this game because this game just totally rocks. Doa3 is the best and thats that.
| A Good Tekken alternative | | Jon from San Antonio, Tx, USA says (10/Dec/2002): | DOA3 was one of the first Xbox games I played, and it still looks like one of the most visually stunning. The game's fighting engine is complex, sure there aren't a 1000 moves per character, but you have counter hits and counter throws. DOA3 proves that it isn't always about who can pummel someone the fastest, defensive players have a vast array of choices to counter attacks. DOA3's characters and story line aren't the best I've seen, it sometimes lacks a better explaination of who they are and why they're here. I like the enviroments with their multi-tear system (you can knock enemies into different sections of some stages) and there are different things to unlock, there are different modes besides just the story; which doesn't appeal that much to begin with. And they implement the tag system for DOA3 which I love, throws in a little mix into the fight.
| Go the cut scenes | | Bill Fentiman from Australia says (28/Dec/2002): | Man, this is a great fighting game. The graphics are brilliant, however, I am sad to day that they are not up to the standard of the blistering Tekken 4, but the scene with Christie in the shower is beautiful (in more than one way, if you know what I mean, heh heh).
