If it wasn't for English... but the game is Great.39737

Brad Felizardo from Luanda, Angola says (15/Mar/2004):
  _ Graphics _
Team Ninja now moved to XboX to show a more powerfull side of their skills. It's good, even on PS2 DOA2 already had amazing graphics, now prepare to see more than that, i mean really. You'll sure notice about how much the graphics are, just looking at Jann-Lee you'll notice that his face changed, now he looks more like a real guy, and many other fighters are improved. What will really make you respect the game is the quality of the end movies, intro, etc, and much more! If you explore a bit the stages you'll figure the gamemakers have done a really great work, they really used their attention for details. Now the bad things about the graphics, well, i don't have much to regret about the graphics, but i don't know, somehow, something tells me they had a more "DOA-smooth-style" on the graphics of DOA2 of PS2, that happens when i remind of stages like the "White Storm" "The DOA2 Danger Zone", "Dragon Hills", "Aerial Garden", etc, so sometimes i dunno but i prefer to play DOA2. Christie is the fighter with the best ending movie, kindda shows to you with style how a real modern assassin lives.

_ Sounds _
Oh, this is it. But why they all speak japanese? This really made the game not too great like i expected, we need english!!! Many players aren't too cool because of this. Players like Zack, Bass, Bayman, Helena, etc, aren't cool because they don't spell english, this was a big mistake. On the PS2 version you could choose between japanese or english voices, but here not! And just think about how the new players like Christie, Brad, could be really cool if they could speak english, man, i don't play the game "that" much because of this. They changed the face of Tina, i think it was to make her look like a real american girl, i never liked her too much, but her voice on DOA2 is really cool, so, sometimes i play with her on DOA2, but here in DOA3 she speaks japanese and looks like a japanese pre-teen, she isn't cool anymore, like many players, even Ayane, Hayate, aren't too cool anymore. I know they used to say some senseless things on DOA2, but i prefer that.

_ Gameplay _
A lot of new moves, this is what really makes the game greater than DOA2. But where is my sweet "Battle Rec. Mode"? My mistake, isn't greater than DOA2 then... Story mode was improved, but without english isn't "that" great. And like i said, there are new fighters, new moves, so you better be ready for new hot vibrations, because fighters like Jann-Lee, Kasumi, Bayman are so hot now. I quite enjoy playing with fighters like that Christie (dangerous snake-like fighting style), Brad Wong (the drunk master, if it wasn't for english i could say he is more cool than Steve Fox and Lei from Tekken4 at the same time), etc. But man, still a pain some end movies. What's up with Brad? He stopped drinking to live with flowers or something? And Hayate, life isn't to be jumping trees and playing with shurikens all the time, a "man needs to be a man", wich meens to study and get some official job, we all need ninjas for movies and things like that but you don't need to take it too seriously and live your life like a movie. I was sad when i saw Ayane crying... but that's ok... Now i heard Microsoft helped Team Ninja for developing this game, oh, c'mon, that was critical because i can't see what i really expected for this game, my game is PAL so why are they speaking japanese? And i don't know how to unlock more costumes, somebody got to tell me.

As real as it gets7999

A gamer from Pompano, FL USA says (22/Jun/2002):
DOA 3 is a definite awe-inspirer from the second you fire up your xbox, the infatuation fades after a few hours, but still a remarkable game. The single most noticeable drawback to the title is the lack of worthwhile, have you coming back, modes. The story mode is short and pointless, its only saving charachteristic is the two shorts movies per fighter that you cannot see elsewhere in the game (the manifestation of Hayabusa in the Forest is amazing no matter how many times you watch it). There are not many secrets to unlock, one new fighter (Ein) and some new outfits, but that fact I do not mind so much because there is already 16 solid charachters to fight with from the beginning. The gameplay itself though is, in my humble opinion, unrivaled in the market. The realism of the moves is what sets this game apart from other titles such as tekken. You may be able to steal a couple hits while your opponent is off the ground, but you cannot pumple him with annoying jabs and extra 5 hit combos (if you have ever tried punching someone as they are flying through the air, it is rather difficult). Each fighter has a barrage of attacks and combos, and the throws and counters are as equally entertaining to watch as they are effective. The multi-level stages allow for more expansive battles, but the exploding areans can become tiresome, especially if you are the one being repeatedly bashed against them. My biggest complaint though is the perspective view during the last battle with Genra. I know they were trying to be creative, but it just does not work, it completely erases any technique from the bout, your only option is to revert to simple punk/kick combos because, quite frankly, you cannot see well enough to try anything else. That is another downfall of the story mode, but the end movies you unlock afterwards are more than worth the 30 seconds you spend button mashing to defeat Genra (which is the final villian why again? I must have missed that in the storyline). But after the movies, if you are anything like me you will spend most your time either in time attack or survival mode honing in on your skills so you can thrash your friends latter on in versus mode. In my humble opinion, DOA 3 is the best in ring realistic combat to date, it is a little shallow in substance, so I only rate it 9 out of 10. It is better than tekken, it is better than virtual fighter... its only competition is Soul Calibur, which many believe to be the best ever 3D fighting game. Here is where personal preference comes into play: Soul Calibur is an absolute landmark in storyline and differing, enthralling gameplay modes... but it is spearheaded by weapons; DOA 3 on the other hand is routed in the mastery or hand to hand combat, an art to watch, but lacks the depth of Soul Calibur, but does surpass Calibur in graphics (as well as any other game out there for any system). DOA 3 as a game in general is not perfect, but once you are in the ring, its simply divine.

One of the Best Fighting Games in the Universe!44350

Darkfist09 says (18/Mar/2005):
Dead or Alive 3 is truly one of the best fighting games in the universe. This Dead or Alive game was a lot smoother in the attacks and the fighting. I also found that there are many more attacks in this DOA, or Dead or Alive. That helped add to the smoothness of it. Another good thing about DOA 3 was that the places were beautiful. The graphics are great and the places are huge! This made the game play a lot of fun because I was able to throw people into stuff and knock them off of more things than before. Something else that I liked was that you could do many different types of blocks and things like that. DOA games are better than Tekken in that respect because you can counter moves from other opponents instead of just taking a million blows and not being able to do anything until you fall down and get back up. One last good thing, (there are too many more,) was that there are little cut scenes at the end of the story mode and are very interesting to watch. I have watched many of them over and over again, just because they are cool. Although short, they are definitely cool.
There aren't really any negative things I can say about this game. There are only three, and they aren't too totally negative. One thing was that the last guy in the story mode was hard to beat because he was able to throw fire and stuff like that, but, actually, it was very easy. All you have to do is memorize what he's going to do (he does it all in the same order each time) and just know what to do. Another thing I thought was a problem was that you couldn't play as my favorite character, Ein. This turned out not to be a problem though, because you can unlock Ein later in the game. One last problem I think the game has is that during some points, some attacks make you get on the opposite side of the screen, so you have to do combos and things like that, using opposite directional buttons. This is expected though, because it happens with about every fighting game.
As you can see, there really aren't any negative points to Dead or Alive 3 and the only ones I could think of are very minor things that don't make much difference to the fun of the game and the value of the game. Dead or Alive 3 is a really great game and I would recommend getting it. It's a lot of fun and is worth your twenty bucks! I would have paid fifty for it!

The true future of fighting games.40907

Ryan from Greenfield, Indiana, USA says (16/May/2004):
When I first got this game I was more than a little dissapointed. The reason I got the game was because of the really good reviews that the gaming magazines I read had given it, and because of Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Anyway, when I first got it I started trying out different characters to find one that I liked. When I was fighting the computer controlled characters they did something that I really didn't like. I would throw a punch or kick at them and they would counter it. What the hell?! I had never played a fighting game with countering moves like that, and I found it really annoying. Then, when I tried to counter their moves I could never get it to work half of the time. But, I kept playing and I got better, and I was able to see how much depth it added to the game. A veteran player could through a button masher newbie's attacks right back in their face! The graphics on this game are phenomenal, some of the most realistic looking graphics I've ever seen. The tag team battles are my favorite part of the game, I especially like how you can switch by using the grab button to do a team move. I really wished this game could be played on Xbox Live, and that is why I can not wait to get Dead or Alive Ultimate. The story mode was a little short and there wasn't enough unlockable content (only one unlockable character and a few outfits). The end boss was one of the worst I have ever seen. I specifically did not like how the camera angle changed and the boss was able to shoot projectiles. He was also too easy to kill. The characters are all really well balanced and have different fighting styles, and a large variety of moves and combos. The sound is really good because of the great music but the one thing that I had a problem with was that no one spoke any English! The only spoken language was Japanese! I would have liked it if their had been an option to choose the language you wanted. After a while though, I didn't mind it at all and kind of liked it. After all, a fighting game should not be rated by what language is spoken in it. Overall, though this game is awesome and should NOT be passed up if you own an Xbox. This truly is, the future of fighting games.

-=Dead or Alive 3 Review=-9195

Susanne from Sydney says (23/Aug/2002):
Dead or Alive 3 is the only one of the series I've played before, so I dont know if things have really changed from the last 2 games. What I do know, the the graphics are heaps good, and so is the way they move. Everything seems so smooth on this game. The music isn't that good though, and it does get annoying. I think what would make it far better is at the end of each battle, the winning person or persons say something in a caption. It would be much better if they actually said it, and had the captions along with it. I would not recommend buying this game - once again, it is one of those games that get really boring after a while, so therefore, it gets spider-webs all over it on the shelf!!! Renting is a great idea, and I think it is really interesting once you play it. After you achieve what you want to achieve in this game, you dont want to play it anymore - well, thats what I feel. If you are playing against a real person, you sit on the edge of your seat, or lean closely against the TV screen whilst you are playing! Your hands start to sweat and when you lose, you oftern say something like, "You were just lucky" or, "I let you win..." etc.

It is so gripping that nearly everyone I know does that! The pictures are quite realistic, but when the players fall down to the ground, it doesnt look that real.
***A helpful hint for most players of Dead or Alive 3 -- When you select your players for Tag Battle Mode, you are more likely to succeed if you pick the people directly opposite eachother. For example, if you pick Bass in Tag Battle Mode, you are more likely to see the team work together if you pick Tina, the girl opposite Bass.*** So, to summerise this all up, I think Dead or Alive 3 is nearly as good as it gets!

Excellent game with some REAL crap parts16946

tcabeen from Stamford, CT, USA says (5/Feb/2003):
Blah blah visuals gameplay etc. You already know these are the hilights of the game. Cute girls, skirts that blow up, lots of jiggling. Yes, it's neat, but let's discuss my gripes:

1. The end boss SUCKS. They change the perspective, give him a GROSS advantage, and make him FAR too easy to beat. (block the blasts, use attacks that don't knock him down, but just whittle away at his health. If you knock him down, jump or block low to avoid shockwave of his impact.) That is WEAK. Give me a boss who is bigger, badder, and tougher than the last person I fought. Not someone who uses screwed up perspective, distorted and annoying visual effects, and really chickensh** long distance attacks. I find it offensive.

2. Most of the bonuses you unlock in the game are different costumes. Most of the costumes are in the PAL (Japan/Europe) version and for the NTSC (US) version, you need to have subscribed to Xbox magazine to have gotten the June 2002 booster disc. Missed it? Now you can only get it on ebay. The least Tecmo could do is offer a cheap copy on the website, or a free download. Let's be fair here.

The gameplay is good. One of my favourite parts of the engine is that it makes it easy to discourage (destroy) button-mashers. You have to THINK to win. Strategy plays an important part in beating other players. For DOA4, I suggest an extra game to unlock (a la Tekken Ball, but different obviously), the same number of features as foreign releases, and a worthy end boss. And yes, I love that they manage to incorporate bits of nudity in special features that allow it to scrape past the censors and maintain the M rating. Of course, if they released it an A rated game, I'd probably just buy that anyhow...

Dead Or Alive 329171

Joshua Webb from Hampshire, England says (4/Aug/2003):
I may be 12 years old, but I still remember when the whole point of fighting games was getting a mate round and standing, face up to the screen locked in a neck by neck contest of seeing who is the best at learning 47 button combos. DOA3 is very different. It is overally the future of all fighting games. And to all you experts out there, it has a new revoulutionary system that makes Tekken look like an empty wrapper down a dark alley. It has a counter system designed to stop newbies kicking the hell out of full trained pros by hammering away at the face buttons. Or in simpler terms, if your enemy is just hitting the Y buttons, just press x with the corresponding direction you can grab them mid-punch and send them a one-way ticket to the hall of shame. But wait, there's more. Compare Tekken 4 with DOA3 and you will probably have already dropped Tekken 4 out the window for the dog to chew. The graphics are almost REAL-LIFE, pushing the XBOX to its limits. You probably will find no PS2 or Gamecube game that stands up to the so-high standard of Microsoft and Team Ninjas DOA3. Listen to me readers, DOA3 is much better than Tekken. Moving on to the subject, the gameplay and controls are exellent. A real gem. Aanndd... There is something else, play on the DOATEC HQ or Lorelei or the Lost World, pack a powerful punch and you can send them smashing through windows, off cliffs, and through banisters. Some other levels have electric fences, the perfect way to 'hammer' through your opponents health bar. So, unlike any other fighting game, the scenery plays just as big a part as the gameplay.
Believe me, you will enjoy it just as much as I did.
Enjoy the game!

Graphics aren't everything11633

Brachlyn Miller from Murray (KY) USA says (22/Nov/2002):
Dead or Alive 3 is a decent fighter in almost every respect. Repeat, almost every respect. We'll start with the good. The graphics engine is incredible. I've not yet seen a fighter that is on a graphic par with DOA3. The characters flow great while the interactive backgrounds are gorgeous. Tecmo and Team Ninja got a bit carried away with the female's, um, voluptuousness, which I suppose is to be expected of this franchise. The levels are multi tiered which makes for a really cool effect, especially if playing two-player. The option is also available to download new costumes off of booster discs. Now to the bad. This game's musical score is absolutly atrocious. It is quite the button masher at times. The characters are all subtitled, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The character designs are strange. Extremly sexy at times, but still strange. And the final boss is just as cheap as they can get. Mind you, not difficult, just cheap. Cheap as in the camera is hindered to your disadvantage on purpose and you take damage if he hits the ground cheap. Overall a great game to look at and play, especially if you have your TV muted and are going against a friend.

Amazing fighter36960

Super Gaijin from Charlottetown, PEI says (14/Dec/2003):
This, Halo, Star Wars: KOTOR, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon are what make the XBox so incredibly good. Other people always get so bitter over the XBox because "It's just a pc with controllers, blah blah blah waaaahhh!" but that's because that's what a console SHOULD be. A console should be a pc geared completely towards gaming in an efficient box with no complicated upgrading and compatibility problems or $#< remove me > at !ty OS's like Windows.

Anyways, on to DOA 3. I've played all the DOA games since the first one on PS and I've always loved them. Each one of them is an improvement on the last (although DOA 2 had some $#< remove me > at !ty characters like Leon or whatever his name was) and DOA 3 is the final, finished product.

The controls are perfectly smooth, the countering system evens out the battlefield for all to play, and there's no stupid 50,000,000 hit combos or some overtly powerful character like Akuma (the reason why I hate street fighter games). Every character has flaws and bonuses for their size, speed, power, and fighting style. Every single character in that game rocks once you learn how to use them and I could sit there all day playing 2 player mode.

Sublime27054

Ben from Melbourne, Australia says (3/Jul/2003):
DOA3 excels in every classical sense of game design. Graphics-more character and environmental detail than any other game. Sound effects are great, very convincing and lifelike. It's easy to imagine that this audioscape is what a true fight would be like. But what, really, is the gameplay like? The Dead or Alive series has a reputation for being a 'better' series, in comparison to fighting series like Soul Edge/Calibur, Tekken and Virtua fighter. Ever since DOA2 the inclusion of a counter system has been controversial. This system allows player to counter an incoming move and send one back for more damage. Simply put, this system is excellent. It adds more depth than any other fighting mechanic alone. Combine this with DOA3's other drawcard, its multilevel, destructible environments, and you have a very deep fighting game. Of course DOA3 also has the other fighting mechanics nailed(combos, throws, blocking etc.), similar to any other 3d fighting game. All in all, this game takes it to even Soul Calibur 2. It's brilliant on every level. Put simply, it has the deepest fighting mechanics.

Almost perfect but the best game I ever played!!!!!35476

Javier Calderon from Cicero,illinois U.S.A says (16/Nov/2003):
Like everybudy says these game is one of the best games I have ever played
In first place the graphics Is one of the coolest thing in the game they are really cool it almost seems like real life. If mortal combat and dead or alive 3 were compared at graphics mortal combat would look like a fool because dead or alive 3 is one of the best game with the best graphics.
This is why I put a nine on the score the game is really easy When I played the first time I beated the game with no problem and the boss from story mode sucks.
The gameplay Is the best part of the game specially story mode every character has is own movies and endings but the thing that dead or alive has that mortal combat or soul calibur doesn't have are the costumes every character has at least 4 costumes because if you get tired of how your favorite character looks you can always change her or his clothes or even their hair style.
I really recomend this game for kids and adults that like fithing games and really hot chicks like me.(by the way I'm 12)

DOA323452

David from SA Adelaide says (15/May/2003):
DOA3 is the best game in the world. Even the newest games of tekken and street fighter dont come close to beating this game in graphics, game play, moves, everything. The chicks in the game are really cute especailly Ayane, Hitomi and Kasumi. The movies look really real with hair swaying in the wind and the pupil of the eyes opening and closing to the light. Man I cant wait for DOA4 comes out it will be even better then this one. The tag team mode of this game is sweet with the combo flips. And every chacarter has its own special style of fighting. I never did like fighting games til I came across DOA3 now i think fighter games are the best. The only down fall is the last boss Omega. The next one should put a stronger boss in. Again this is the best game EVER and it will be til number 4 comes out. My favourite character is Ayane(I think she's the prettiest girl in the game)

A Good Tekken alternative12708

Jon from San Antonio, Tx, USA says (10/Dec/2002):
DOA3 was one of the first Xbox games I played, and it still looks like one of the most visually stunning. The game's fighting engine is complex, sure there aren't a 1000 moves per character, but you have counter hits and counter throws. DOA3 proves that it isn't always about who can pummel someone the fastest, defensive players have a vast array of choices to counter attacks. DOA3's characters and story line aren't the best I've seen, it sometimes lacks a better explaination of who they are and why they're here. I like the enviroments with their multi-tear system (you can knock enemies into different sections of some stages) and there are different things to unlock, there are different modes besides just the story; which doesn't appeal that much to begin with. And they implement the tag system for DOA3 which I love, throws in a little mix into the fight.

One of the Great Ones21872

Seiryu from Louisville, KY , USA says (21/Apr/2003):
DOA3 is one of the greatest fighting games of all time. The graphics are phenomenal, the characters are awesome, and the sound track really gets you into the mood. The degree of interaction with th level backgrounds adds alot to the gameplay (especially when you knock your friend out the window in the Hong Kong stage!) I myself am a martail artist and I've picked up some useful strategies from many of the characters combinations. The game has pretty good replay value in story mode due to the gorgeous ending sequences (which are the best I've ever seen in a fighting game) but the real fun lies in fighting another friend in versus mode who is equal in skill to you, Oh yeah! I recommend this game to anyone who loves fighting games; if it's girls you're after then get DOA EXB.

Good And Bad Points To "DEAD OR ALIVE 3"28829

Richard lafferty from paisley, scotland says (28/Jul/2003):
At first was one of the best games i bought, all though after weeks of none stop play and no new fighting options it can be a bit boring. DOA3 has some of the best fighting game graphics i have ever seen up to this point including that of the latest tekken game: "Tekken 4", also the characters storylines and dramatic endings make the first few weeks of gameplay really enjoyable, again i found that this game like many of its fighthing game counterparts contains little options like unlocking new characters and costumes which would keep us glued to our seats for weeks and weeks. Apart from those few critisiams "Dead Or Alive 3" is definetly a must have for all fighting game lovers and even for those that just want to have the best games at the moment!!.

this has been my fav game for over 6 months!!! (and it still is)13979

ryno125 says (29/Dec/2002):
DOA3 is the best fighting game available, period. Although some people say the combos are to easy to learn. yeah, well thats probably because your getting your ass kicked in multiplayer!!! and for those people who think there arn't enough modes, well just in case you didn't notice, there's 9 of them. and if you think the learing curve is easy, well i agree, but it takes a lot longer to master. those people who only played story mode, may i suggest you pull it out again and try the other modes, i find they are alot of fun, and they have top scores, something to brag about. if i could give this game more than ten i would. it is the most addictive, intuitive, fun game i have ever played. and buy the way, learn how to use the hold button!!!

Dead or Alive 3 is good for now....5100

Tommy Cheese from Sixty Five USA,Cheese Road says (3/Jan/2002):
Dead or Alive was always a series of great fighting games at first only. They all get boring after an hour because of the repeative combos and the lack of game modes. I am proud to say that this game isnt bad but it is the same thing as Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore. The only difference is that there are new endings, a few new charecters, new outfits and new areans. It has pretty cool combos but it dissapointed me to see that alot of them didnt change from the other Dead or Alive games. It has really great graphics though. The modes in this game are: c.j gallery ,tag mode and story mode (the stories really suck though and the music in this game is bad). This is more like a rental.

Best Game ever played.11241

Dave from Peoria Illinois USA says (13/Nov/2002):
Doa3 Is the Best fighting game i ever played. Yeah it has its Draw backs like the story mode is stupid but i like the ending Videos. And the Graphics r the best ive seen in Fighting Games so far. DOA3 is way better then tekken. I havent played soul caliber yet so i cant compare it to that. But Doa3 is the best Fighting game so far.The character disigne is really great. The brest bounce beutifully. The hair and lothes have the most realistic movement then ay other fighting game ive played. And the Fire on the ending Videos for Tina and Lie Fang look as reall as Xbox games can get way better then any fighting game on Ps2. Ill just put it this way DOA3 is the best Fighting game ever Played.

Cubbilicious from San Mateo,California says (29/Oct/2003):
Not only was this game better than any other fighting game I knew, but the graphics, the graphics stunned me/ so beautiful! I mean if you did compare these graphics with any other games- Dead or Alive would win. I looooooooooooooooooove this game! The extreme game play is mesmerizing to the eyes. It is a true masterpiece, if you don't mind my saying, but I want a fighting game to verse Doa and I would like to see who can beat Doa, I mean come on. You need to by this game. The graphics are good because it's on xbox too, know wonder there's no power greater than the X..........THIS GAME IS TRULY THE FUTURE OF ALL FIGHTING GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great game, but that Omega dude...14842

Tom from Redding, CT, USA says (5/Jan/2003):
DOA3 is the greatest looking, and playing game. It makes Tekken and Virtua Fighter look horrible. The game blew me away untill the Omega-Genra guy in the last stage. Every time you knock him down you lose health? Why would that happen? Why can he burn us from far away and not give us a chance to kill him? Why can't we pick him up and throw him? it took me so long to defeat him, with all but the strongest fighters. Other then that this game was awesome. Oh yeah, one more thing. Why are some people's ages N/A? Do not want people to know their age? Did they forget it or something?
