One of the reasons to own an XBOX. | | EER from FL, USA says (9/Jul/2002): | I bought an XBOX about a month later after its release thanks to a couple of friends who showed me HALO. That was actually the first game I got for the system, and it was truly incredible. Graphics like those were not seen in many games that I owned. I thought Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X were the leaders in detail. I was wrong! After I beat HALO, I thought to myself, I wish they would release a game worth buying like HALO but maybe even longer. I have been a huge fan of adventure games, first person shooters, and a much bigger fan of RPGs. I am a fan of Squaresoft for its Final Fantasy franchise and own there other classics like Chrono Trigger. I hadn't really noticed what an open-ended RPG on an console was like until I read about Morrowind. I use to play EverQuest where I had a lvl 57 enchanter and just loved the fact that it was so big. I got bored, because as some of you may know, patch updates are quite annoying and fighting in groups for loot gets irritating and repetative. Well, I hadn't really heard of the older Elder Scroll games like Daggerfall (I wish I would've!), so I didn't know too much about the history. I went online and read a review about Morrowind and was instantly curious and hooked. I wanted to try a big game like this one for my XBOX. I went to a local retailer and they told me it was definitely worth it if I was an RPG fan and that I would probably be playing many hours. They were right, it was worth it! I haven't enjoyed a game for a console, especially for XBOX as much as Morrowind. I am currently pretty far I guess. My character is lvl 23 about now and I am an Imperial Knight. I have completed the main quest, but am still playing around trying to complete some quests. I love being able to walk into a town and kill people and just change the way the world works in Morrowind. About the detail, this game has a lot of it. The water is my favorite. Very similar to HALO, I love the amount of detail and how the sun reflects. Even trees and buildings can be seen reflected! This game requires a lot of hours but it is worth it if you get into it. In the beginning I thought it was quite slow, but it gets much better. Yes, it gets a little annoying when traveling from place to place because it is a BIG world, but there are spells which can speed you up (Mark and Recall). Also, don't worry but this game can actually freeze your XBOX at times. I guess sometimes there is too much for the XBOX to handle sometimes. A long story short, if you're a fan or not a fan like I was, you will love this game if you have the time and patience. This is definitely one of the reasons to own an XBOX!
| Great game, unlimited possibilities. | | Stephen from Birmingham, USA says (7/Jul/2002): | I had heard of Daggerfall, but never played it. But three days after I bought my Xbox, a friend of mine told me to get Morrowind. He said it was cool because you could kill people and take thier stuff and do magic and all that. He gave this game absolutely no credit. I've always wanted to see a game where you don't have to stick to a preset storyline, where you can venture to the side of evil, become leader of a guild, and still have lots left over to do. I'm not even very far into the game and I love it. I've never seen a game that you can interact with so much. The only downside I've seen is how difficult it is to level up and the lack of easy to beat yet worthwhile enemies. But in reality, you don't need them! This game lets you take your character wherever you want and do whatever you want with them. A villager makes you mad? Kill them! and sell off thier stuff. Pay your meager fine and be free. This game has limitless possibilities for gameplay. If you're sceptical, rent it! But be sure you have a lot of time on hand to play. I would suggest this game to people with a dgree of patience and persistance.
| Awesome Game | | Andrew from Tyler, Texas, USA says (24/Jun/2002): | I bought this game on a whim. I had never played any of the others, nor had I even heard of them. All I did was read reviews and hope this would be a fun game, luckily it was. Every bit of the 50 bucks I paid was worth it. The game is very emersive, you can do pretty much whatever you'd like, and if you become strong enough, you can rule the entire kingdom, i guess, haven't actually gotten that far. In fact, I haven't got to far at all, the only problem with the game is that it takes a while to get from place to place, but along the way a lot of things happen, so all in all, this is a great game and worth the money. I'm happy with it.
Also, please e-mail me at football5654704< remove me > at hotmail.com if you have ANY tips at all for this game. I'd love it, especially tips on how to start out.
| A(nother) Reason to Buy an Xbox | | Sam from Dayton, OH USA says (21/Jun/2002): | The one true reason I got an Xbox was just for this game. A long time ago I played Daggerfall using a few of my friends' computers. With that I was hooked. Then I saw that an Elder Scrolls 3 was on its way and even better coming also on a game console. In all truth, I about had a heart attack. So I bought an Xbox and waited (and waited and waited because they pushed and pushed back the release date) for countless days to play the game. Four days after recieving it, I went on a vacation. Now that I am back and am able to play it, I am very much in love with this game. I've always been a Final Fantasy fan -Squaresoft, the Gods of RPGs- but now I can barely reason why I even played them. Imagine an RPG with a free roaming capability. Where if you are tough enough, you can wipe out a whole village and claim it as your own. Even have one building that is a strip club with dancing girls in it. Building your own stronghold, becoming a leader of several guilds, including an assasin's guild. Adventuring not only on land but in the water around the island itself. This game is a must have if you own an Xbox. It definitely is for the true gamer, like moses said, you gotta have some patience and time to play. I think I've said enough, if anything, rent just to see how great the game can be.
| a little too open ended | | moses from Denver,CO USA says (17/Jun/2002): | Morrowind is huge and only for gamers with a lot of time and patience. The fact that it is so big makes getting around timely and sometimes difficult. Also the objectives seem so insignificent that you'll hardly feel encouraged to waste time doing them. Morrowind certainly has its quirks, but being able to customize your character and kill villagers for their clothes and sell them then see someone else wearing them makes it all worth while.
