I bought Amped when i got my Xbox... and i hadn't even played it yet, to say the least i was super stoked when i first played it. I haven't put my controller down for three weeks straight, and my friend have been eating all my food cuz they are always over playing. BEST GAME EVER.

Entertaining, but brutally difficult |
| A gamer from Spicewood Texas says (26/Feb/2002): |
Bought this game, have played about 100 hours so far. Easy to get started, but quickly reached a point where it seems damn near impossible to go any further (current world ranking #90). The point scoring system is bizarre, to say the least. A triple flipping spinning jump perfectly landed will score you the same amount of points as simply jumping on to a rail from a dead standstill, spinning around once, and jumping back on the ground. I have beaten several challenges by simply pulling the aforementioned maneuver over, and over, and over at the same spot. The soundtrack is excellent, and the graphics are quite good. However, lets just say that after a considerable amount of play here I am on the web looking for some advice on how to get past #90 in the world rankings. I've got that sinking feeling that this game is going on the shelf soon. Just for reference purposes, I've beaten Halo, Max Payne, StarWars starfighter, F1 2001 and 2 seasons of NFL fever 2002, so I don't think the problem is my total incompetence with the xbox controllers. I think a training mode of some sort (ala Dead or Alive 3) would have really helped this game. It wouldn't have hurt for the game to have been a little more tolerant of your timing also. Don't even think of having a beer or two and trying to play this one. If you thought operating heavy machinery was difficult. . . In summary, I enjoyed this game quite a bit for a while, but I'm finally giving up, which is very frustrating. I like to beat games that I lay out 50 bucks for, and I find it galling to have to give up on one. You quickly reach a point in Amped where random luck and the alignment of the stars seems to have more bearing on your score than your skills, though, so to hell with it. This game would have been much more successful if it was somewhat more playable.

Not worth the money |
| CartOOn from Toronto, Canada says (7/Mar/2002): |
After playing this game for two week its time to trade it in for something else. I think that this game can really bug some people, if your not into that whole snowboarding thing, this game is worthless... the controls are hard and the game play is hard, too. I find myself getting suck and it takes me hours just to get out and finish my run. The career mode is fun for a day, until you are ranked in the 90's, then it becomes too hard. Rent it ... but don't buy this game.

Amped is cool |
| EvuL Fo0 from djksaf says (13/Mar/2002): |
Well I think Amped is a great game, its not hard but you have to have some skills, I've been playing it for about 3 weeks and im at rank 3 in the world. ive got everything but 2 snow board, and it wasnt really hard until i got to rank 25 then it starts getting hard because you have to play the "pro 3" on every course... but I think its a good game to buy =]

Game is a bit hard but is v good |
| Chris Core from Peterborough, England says (2/Apr/2002): |
When xbox came out it had a great launch line up. halo, gotham, DOA3 and amped. These are all great games some of which at the time kicked the pants off all ps2 games. Amped is a brilliant snowboarding game that is serious in what it does but has little touches that balance it out so as to not make it feel like a boarding sim. the challenges can at times be frustrating but then when you look at the gobsmakin graphics, you forget all this and try again with a big smile on yer face. It has that just one more factor... a great game

Best Snowboarding Game (currently) |
| Brent a.k.a. "Snowcutter" from Houston, TX says (30/Apr/2002): |
Ok.. I don't know why everyone thinks this game is hard. Just hold your grabs until the end and make sure you land straight. I rented this game, and three days later I was in the top 15 boarders. The graphics are great, and the gameplay is very addicting. The controls need a little getting used to, but once you do you want to keep playing it. In order to land the tricks to beat the Pro3 characters, you have to master your skills and know what jumps can get you the points to beat them. I like the fact that this game is so challenging!! I like the idea of the different gear setups. You can change your boards/bindings/boots to boost your jumping/spinning/balance. The soundtrack is KILLER, every time I play it I seem to hear a song that I haven't heard before. And for those of you that don't think the courses are good, unlock them first before you say it. The later courses are HUGE with 10+ different runs to do. I've waited since CoolBoarders on Playstation for a snowboarding game that just as fun and addicting to play, and I finally have it. I think I might have to go out and buy it now. Its good to hae a game thats difficult, makes it worth the time and money to master it!!

Man, I LOVE this game |
| Nort from London UK says (15/May/2002): |
Amped is one of those games that you see a friend playing and think, "piece of cake, i can do better than that" but it isn't so easy. u need to practice to be sweet at this. The thrill of landing a 120k jump (yes jump, not cheating and standing on a rail) is unreal. Graphics are sweet as. a friend complained that of piste u loose sight of ur feet and board. he obviously hasn't boarded 4 real. coupla glitches when u fall on the half pipe, or get stuck against a pole...
89% Sound track is very good, with some beauts in the ska punk line. Top feature being able to add ur own tracks too. cutting up the slopes to the sound of Reel Big Fish, the Bosstones, or even Rage when ur in the mood rulez.
82% Game play is superb. U cant expect to sit back in an "easy mode" and have the run of things. this isn't halo where its half way acceptable just to follow the story without any real challenge in it. its like the real thing, the more practice and better u get, the more fun u'll have.
95% Multiplayer is lacking slightly, split screen would've been sweet.
75% Longevity. I haven't put it down for a month. Halo is gathering dust...
90% Overall a top 92% and i'm harsh on games!

Amped + THE SECOND BEST GAME EVER MADE |
| Spartan II from Burlington, Washington says (10/Jun/2002): |
First off, for all you pussies out there that are whining because you cant do a trick or think its to hard, maybe you guys should go skrew yourself. Amped is the best game ever, i have owned it since it almost came out and it never gets boring! In fact i loved it so much i beat it twice! The play control and the freedom are wonders to the virtual world but the sound is definetly the best, i mean what more could you ask for in a game? Ok ok maybe a little bit better multiplayer but thats not what this game was made for, this game was made for absolute hardcore riding in a stunning almost endless array of 3 dimensional environments! If you ask me, the only game that is better than amped (and not by much) is HALO for xbox but thats a different review. In all if you dont like Amped you should probably think about getting your head examined.

Excellent |
| A gamer says (22/Dec/2002): |
I bought Amped when it first came out and the game is awesome to say the least. To those who complain about brutal controls and difficulty, I suggest you lower your daily intake of LSD. The game is very realistic, with no annoying time limits and free reign over your own moves (not a button masher like Coolboarders on PS1) not to mention long runs and open areas with lots of jumps and rails. The points system is also realistic (ie anyone can do a 540 Rodeo + stalefish when they are blazing down the hill) But to to the same trick going considerably slower will get you more points as it's more difficult then...duh. I would suggest this game to anyone who is even remotely interested in looking for a fun game.

Game Is kickass |
| Thomas from Muncie, Indiana, U.S.A says (27/Dec/2002): |
For all the people that say the controls in this game are "too hard" "frusterating" its not either of those the controls are very simple once you learn them your not supposed to be able to pick up a controller and be god at the game.....otherwise theres no challenge so im just saying that this game is a great game and hours of fun although u can hurt ur wrist punching the wall after being discouraged...but dont worry you'll get the hang of it.....just make sure you can sit in front of the television with a game for hours it will keep calling your name til you beat it!!!

Solid first generation game from Xbox |
| philly says (2/Jan/2003): |
Props to Microsoft for taking a new twist on the snowboarding genre of gaming. Amped is a realistic look at snowboarding with real mountains, and realistic looking characters. The gameplay can be frustrating at times, but well worth it when you become good. My only complaint with the game is the stupid snowman challenges. I'm at a ranking of 8, and am sick of looking for those stupid snowman. It wouldn't be a horrible part of the game if it didn't reflect on your ranking. There is no skill involed with finding this snowman, so why should you need them to help your ranking?

As good as it gets (So Far) |
| Billy Boy from MA says (27/Oct/2003): |
Amped snowboarding is what snowboarding is all about....
This is why
1. It is almost realistic - Gaming is so close to the feel of snowboarding. I am a snowboarder and it fulfils my every desire for the mountain. Although the Jibbing is a little exadurated... the jumps are in the ball park
2. It is hard... But so is snowboarding. You need to invest your time in this game and improve. Once you get good you become a machine, and even then still fall. Just like any pro in snowboarding you have great runs and not so good ones. You dont start in the game as a pro. you start as a snowboarder working your way up. You need to practice like in snowboarding
3. It puts games like ssx tricky to shame. Games like that cheapen the sport of snowboarding. They turn it in to a fun joke. Amped is true to what snowboarding is about.
4. High quality graphics and a soundtrack enhance the game.
5. The one negative - having to find the snowmen. It is more of a hastle and should not have any standing on your status.
In conclusion, Buy amped, if you want a real snowboarding game

Rent first |
| the punk from says says (15/Jan/2002): |
I played this game at Best Buy and thought it was cool but then I bought it and I was dissapointed. It is weird because you can land hard tricks while you cant land easy ones.If you fall down it slows down.Courses arent good that much ether.

Its a great game |
| A gamer from Corsicana, USA says (30/Jan/2002): |
Its a great fun game. It takes alittle bit to get the skill but once you got it you can play for hours.
|
Great game but extremley frustrating at times. |
| Adam from Calgary, Alberta, Canada says (4/Feb/2002): |
Amped is a really great game that you can chill out and play for couple minutes, the graphics are awesome and the music and voiceovers are great. What really upsets me is that the game is really addictive and on some runs you need to have a perfect run just to pass the challenge. When you finally get your perfect run all your hairs been pulled out and there’s an Xbox controller in your tv. It also would have been better if the multiplayer was played simultaneously but it’s still not bad. So all in all it’s a great game but if your out to beat set aside a good chunk of time and a stress ball.

its worth a rent |
| dan from chicago, usa says (5/Feb/2002): |
i had been wanting to rent this game ever since i got xbox (week after thanksgiving) and i finally found a copy at my local blockbuster, i was pretty happy because i heard amped was a great game. i took it home and i was a lil disapointed with the controls, too darn hard. you always seem to fall even before you leave the ramp or your land just a little off and you wipe out after a huge trick. the career mode is hard, but kinda fun. i like the graphics. the HUGE soundtrack is very cool(150 songs i think) i didnt find anything i liked on it, so i turned it off and only use the soundtrack from my xbox i made (nothing was heavy enough so i used some slayer, iced earth, iron maiden, judas priest, steel prophet, yanno the good stuff). after all my whining, its a fun game to just sit home for an hour or so and play, but its not worth buying. at least rent it

The BEST! |
| Joanna from Avenel, USA says (3/Mar/2002): |
I don't know why everyone says it is such a hard game. For me it's easy and I think it is a really fun game. You get so addicted to it that you can't stop playing. The music is good and the courses are easy. Amped is a great game.

STOKED! |
| Stoned Rincewind says (3/Jul/2002): |
I love some of the reviews here, because I know exactly how some of you guys feel. A friend of mine bought a xbox a couple of days ago, including this game and we've been playing every day ever since. I love it! Also the soundtrack is really awesome. I dig the stuff from G-13. I searched for it for hours on the net, but couldn't find anything! The only search that matched was on mp3.com, but that's a different band with the same name. If anyone knows where to get some info about the group or download sources, please let me know! I'm desperate! Thanks in advance!

Amped |
| Damo from somewhere, nice says (18/Dec/2002): |
I think this game absolutely rocks. The soundtracks are unique and funky and the gameplay is amazing. I must admit though, if you're not into the extreme sports genre, I wouldn't buy it. This game is more for a skater, surfer or a snowboarder! :)
I only got the game today and have already had many enjoyable hours on it. I am more into shoot 'em' ups like halo and ghost recon, but this game has hit me hard. I love it just as much as the others.
