matrix watch out! |
| shawn kahan from solon,ohio says (7/Aug/2003): |
this is the best game i ever played!it has better graphics than the pc and ps2 ones. the game has a matrix-style slow-mo action which makes the game even cooler. I have to admit it is really freaky because it show's his dead daughter and wife and it can just sicken you a little but the rest is great. If you like shooting games than i definitly recommend this game! i also recommend dead to rights(xbox,gc,ps2,and coming soon to pc). Be sure to look forward to max payne 2:fall of max payne .

Everything but a bore |

This game is so satisfying and like all, I do the bullet time is admire the bullet time. Besides having good story sequences, I felt as if I'm part of the game and forget about collecting points to continue to different levels coz there aren't any and having played it like an addict is only because like in all good movies, we want to know what's next and how it finishes. Thumbs up for this game.

This is THEY best shooting game ever! |
| A gamer says (15/Jun/2003): |
Max Payne is simply the best shooting game I have ever played for any game system. Bullett time is so friggin awsome. The levels are friggin awsome. And the story line is friggin awsome. Bullett time and shootdodging are awsome features that make the game so cool. The only flaw in the game are the levels that Max Payne are drugged on. Besides that, the game rocks. I will definitally get the next Max Payne game and all future sequals.

Max Payne is an absolute gun! |
| ShadowMaster from Millicent South Australia says (20/Nov/2002): |
Max Payne... he is a regular american cop with a family and a perfect life. But when things start going wrong he gets angry and goes into Max Cheese style!
Max cheese style is when you jump around in bullet time mode for 95% of the whole gameplay. When in this mode his prefered weapon is the grenade launcher.
he jumps around and launches grenades everywhere because when in bullet time mode Max Cheese is invunrebal to your own explosions! MAAAAX CHEEESE! JUMP AROUND AND DO THE MAX CHEESE STYLE! ITS AWESOME! Ok now that thats over with. now for my review!
Max Payne is an unreal game! its absolutly fantastic! The way he talks, walks and acts is cool. the storyline is great, and Payne is like a comic book hero, but hes realy a bent cop gone over the edge! everything about this game I love. especialy bullet time. I want to see a Max Payne 2 come out! At the end credits it hinted someting about how the payne has only just begun... Lets hope that we see more Max eh? a multiplayer or Co-Operative mode would be cool too. but how will the bullet time work? we will just have to wait and see shant we?!

Tops! |
| Tom Felton from London says (15/Aug/2002): |
Max Payne is really the best interactive game I have ever played. I really like the comic display between little sections it is really good. I have never seen a game like this. Rockstar have brought out there best game yet. I love the bullet time, it has to be almost the best factor of the entire game. It saves your butt when your dead meat and is excellent. We have been hiring out Max Payne night after night because we can't find the game anywhere but we finally have and bought it. We must've wasted at least 50 dollars on hiring it out but it was all worth the while because Max Payne rocks. All our friends and family come around and are like "So got any further yet?" Everyone likes it heaps. Three people we know have bought it since we introduced them to it. I like how in the comic-strip bits Max's voice is one tone. It sounds as if he is reading a novel when he talks. Really good stuff, I've never seen it done before. I think it is a really origional game. Way better than 007 because this is so interactive and I love that.

HOLY S***!!! Kick ass Bullet time!!! |
| NelsonP from North Bay, Ontario, Canada says (9/Jun/2002): |
WOW!! This game is awesome. People told me about how great this game would be, but I wasn't prepared for the insanity of bullet time (greatest ever). I gave this game an 8 because without bullet time this game would really, really, suck. I mean without it your basically dead. This is the first time I ever saw a game with that comic book style inter gameplay stuff, and I have to saw that its pretty cool(expecially when max shoots that little wimp mafia guy and makes him say"Oh, ya shot me, oh..."). The best move ever is with the dual berrets, blasting the bad guys while jumping down a flight of stairs backwards, in bullet time. There are a few dissapointing points in this game, like the total lack of multiplayer, the extreme linear gameplay (unlike halo), the low replay value and that really messed up face that Max has. But I'd say that the good far outweighs the bad. I can't stress enough the fact that bullet time is amazingly cool, there's nothing like using the colt to rip open the ennemie while dozens of bullets are whizzing inches from your face or dodging a flying gaz tank, which in turn blows up an unexpecting mobster. The game itself is long enough, tons of weapons and some pretty freaky people(what's up with that fat psycko guy with the tatoos all over his face?!). The sound is good but not great. There is just one thing that I would of corrected, well two, those two damn missions that have you walking on blood trails looking for god knows what, running through endless hallways hearing a baby cry, then some chick say "Don't hurt me! I didn't mean too, I'm sorry...", or something like that. The overall this game is awesome with some dissapointments, so I would recommend this game as a 7 day rental and not as a buyer.

Great Game |
| A gamer from Virginia, USA says (2/Feb/2002): |
Max Payne is a great game, however, the designers failed to realize that the game is easy if the bullet time is not used. A player can run through the levels extremely fast and kill everyone easily without ever using the feature. The designers relied on the feature to be the focal point of the game, as the character can only travel in one direction, meaning only one door would be open in a room of ten doors. The levels are too simplistic, and the storyline is plain stupid, however, the slow motion feature of the game makes it seem like the matrix, which boosts the grade of this game significantly. I believe that a mixture of this game, GTA 3 and Dead or Alive 3 would be the ultimate game, and would dwarf all competition. I am waiting for the programers to create a game that is as controversial as GTA 3, as stylish as Project Gotham, as involved as Halo, and as graphically pleasing as Dead or Alive 3.

Check it out |

Max Payne. i was thinking of buying this game when i first bought xbox but i wasnt sure of it. instead i went and got Halo, which for the info is a much better game overall. first off the game play in Max Payne is just alright. there is nothing special about. the graphics are fitting for the game but instead of making 4 chapters with 10 levels each, they should have made 8 or 9 really large levels where you can roam around more. with xbox capabilites it is really a disadvantage of having to get into a level and then all of a sudden its over and your waiting for it to load. one major flaw i found in the game is that the story is told to you through comic book pictures. for xbox it just wont cut it!! you have so much potential to make movies to tell the storyline rather than a cheap comic book. one excellent feature though is bullet time. the game allows you to control the view and speed of the game. almost like the matrix, not only does this look amazing but it helps in defeating the enemies. overall they could have made this game with larger levels and a better cinematrics. iam glad i just rented it cause it only took me 2 days to beat.
