A game not worthy for the title of the best game!35431

A gamer from Missussauga, Ontario, Canada says (15/Nov/2003):
Listen I'm probably one of the biggest wrestling fans ever. Even though I wasn't born in time to see the first WWF match ever I did get to see some that were very good. In the matter that I am obessesed with wrestling(WWE) I bought most of the WWE games, from the nintendo to the X-BOX, and the PS2. I didn't buy my WWE Raw for X-Box, but I bought it for my PC. Not knowing how unworthy the game is I bought it. I noticed it had alot of matches missing, and the movement of the superstars was pretty slow. I went to return the game, turned out they only gave refunds and exchanges with in 7 days. So I kept the game. I didnt play it much, but a week ago I was bored and had nothing to do, so I gave it a shot, still didn't like but it kinda became challenging so I played, I started to like it a lil bit. Anyways I think it's an ok game, but it could of been much better. I also have a question for you guys I do not know how to do your signature moves in this games. if you know can you send me an email at areeshq< remove me > at yahoo.com

It Sucks! It Sucks! It's True, It's dam True!17016

The Copy Cat has spoken from from Winnipeg Manitoba says (7/Feb/2003):
This game is so crappy i have never seen a crappier vgame then this. Even playstations first smackdown game was better than this. the graphics are extrodanary. and the entrance is very good. but there is no match types you only get the basics. the specials are crappy too. Lets say your jeff hardy, and you want to do the swanton bomb off of the top rope. the guy can get up and move out of the way or you dont even land on him and you inflict no damage and end up hurting yourself.

Dude,This game is OFF DA HOOK!!!13411

ALEX SMART from BADIN, N.C. says (24/Dec/2002):
This game is awsome! I especially enjoyed the graphics. Man it really feels like your gettin your (BEEP) kicked left and right across the arena. I've read some of the reviews and you guys are nuts! Your sayin the game sucks and it's so easy well I can tell you I'm pretty (BEEP) good at Wrestling games but I want you to see how easy it is if you try to beat Trish Stratus in the woman's title match. Then I want you to write another review!!! I still don't know if it's possible to throw your opponent into the crowd but i'm still trying!Overall this game is the Ayatollah of rock and rollah!! and I will never EVVEERRR!!! rate this game lower than an 8!! PEACE OUT!!!

Defending THQ's Raw12857

Chris from London, Ontario, Canada says (13/Dec/2002):
At first I was a little dissappointed that certain match modes such as HIAC, ladder match, cage match, etc were missing from the game when I was told that they would be included. Then I though "Oh well, I'll give it a try..." I had nothing to lose anyway since this was the only wrestling title for XBOX at the time. What really amazes me about this is game though, is how people tend to forget that this is a totally new grappling engine, a totally new concept with the crowd determining who will win the match. I don't know if those people pay much attention to how the real show works on Raw, but the crowd does in fact determine how the product should be presented. The McMahons' listen to what the crowds react to the most and play off those reactions, so I thought the addition of the voltage meter was a great idea so you can play into the crowds hands. Then there are some people complaining about completely destroying their oponent with all the special moves only to have him pop back up again and continue the fight... Well how many times on Raw or Smackdown have u seen a fan favorite like RVD or Hulk Hogan take a beating for most of the match only to turn the tables with a come outta nowhere victory? I think they call it "Ring Psychology", that adds depth to a match to keep the audience on there feet cheering the babyface or jeering the heel (People still go crazy for Hulk when he does his "Hulking up" routine). Having the wrestlers bounce back up from any signature or special move makes the game more realistic, since it happens on both TV shows why not have it happen in the game? It just makes the matches longer and forces you to use your head and think of a better strategy to pull off a win. If you're looking for the quick victory simply win the support of the fans using variations of attack and grapple moves. Also if you think about it from a "fan in the seats" point of view the gameplay should at least make a little more sense. Wrestlers are payed to make the crowd come back hungry for more, and sure the gameplay is limited in what it can do, but a little imagination doesn't hurt either. The graphics and sound are simply amazing as can be expected from any XBOX title. The concept of interfering with a wrestlers enterance is a cool idea (also a ring psychology factor on any wrestling show). I think the point of the creat a wrestler mode may have been for people to create a more original wrestler rather then clone a superstar that's already in the game. Lets face it you can try your best to clone an existing superstar, but it'll never even remotely resemble the orignal, that may also explain the wide variety of objects to be found in the game that lets you dress your CAW up in so many ways. Everything that people has complained about not being in this title will definately be in Raw 2 (or so THQ says), but this first installment is a great game to hold us hardcore wrestling fans down till the release of the sequel. So before you go and return this game for something else, just think about it through a "fan in the seats" perspective and use your imagination. In my opinion Raw hit a homerun for the first of its kind, and only makes me that much more excited for Raw 2 when it will be released. All they need to do to improve upon this title in the sequel is to add what they promised should have been in the first.

I thought It pritty much rocked10737

Simon (big SI) from London England says (29/Oct/2002):
I dont know why all you guys are b*tching about Raw is Was. What you have to do is complettly forget about the 'smackdown' games for the PS1/PS2 and think of it as a game in its own right. People are saying its no good beacuse of the lack of good matches suchs as hell in a cell, or the fact that you cant go into the croud or back stage. these things wernt added beacause raw is war DOSNT NEED THEM! Smackdown juat bring it, is one of the most boring games ever made, you can win the wwf title in only 3 matches and the game play is soooooo easy, thats why it needs all the extra matches and things. Raw dosnt need them beacause the game takes so long any extras would be a bit too much, it takes about 7 wins just to get the LHW title and about 11 to win the wwf title. Graphics are stunning and look so realistic (apart from Triple H, he dosn't look much like him) game play DOSE NOT SUCK! play will juts say it sucks 'cos its differnat from the ps2 and is a little tricky but once you get the hang of it youll see its very realistic. Sound is ok but comomtary from JR and the king would have been cool. Basicaly its a cool game, its just a bit differant from the PS1/PS2 games and takes a little getting used too, role on wwe raw is war 2

ps. the reason theres no blood when some one gets hit be a chair is that when some one get hit by a chair on TV theres on blood, therfore its true the TV show Raw

Aki sux9732

Mr.X says (21/Sep/2002):
I think it's fun to play raw, but why the hell did Thq take out the fight in the the crowd, the bleeding and why aren't there HIAC's, Cage matches, ironman matches or any other kind of matches, that is missing! it's fun to play raw, but with the things, that are missing, it would be the best game EVER!

WHAT HAPPENED???7067

Hugo Boss from Massapequa Park, NY, USA says (23/Apr/2002):
This game was to be THE GAME of all wrestling games. The graphics are amazing but the gameplay blows! Why the hell did that "roody-poo jabroni" Rock get up immediately after I beat the living hell out of him the past ten moves and put a Stone Cold Stunner on his candy ass? The button configuration for each move is too complex as well. My friend has Just Bring It for the PS2, technically it doesn't match up to RAW but it has backstage areas, Hell in a Cell, the Tag Titles, a referee (plus special referee), etc. He was also able to design a splitting image of Rob Van Dam in the create mode along with his moves. And it's a whole lot easier to execute moves making for faster paced action when you're playing against a friend. He also just told me PS2 is already working on a new WWF game set for release in the Fall of 2002 which will include all the WCW/ECW wrestlers and the Extended Season Mode as in the last Smackdown game for PS1. Now I'm thinking maybe the Xbox wasn't such a good idea after all, especially after seeing the new Final Fantasy and the greatest game ever Grand Theft Auto III.

wwf raw is war sucks6934

andy from USA says (14/Apr/2002):
first of i expecting more from the wwf and thq but this game really blows. The game doesnt even have hell in the cell matches etc. thq , a word of advise, if your going to make a wwf game then include all the wrestlers. the game doesnt even have a royal rumble or pay per views!!!! Also, if you start a title match you have to finish on the spot you cant just save it and come back and finish the title match later you have to do it all. Raw is war sucks i advise that no one even think of playing it or buying it. The music sucks, the matches suck everything sucks. The game needs blood if someone gets hit by a steel chair they have to get busted open and start bleeding in the game he just gets up and keeps on wrestling.i suggest on the next raw they include ladder matches, ppv's, hell in the cell, bikini matches, different outfits, ability to save a title match and continue it another time, more wrestlers and better finishing moves. i mean you cant even do the 3d with the dudley boys . plain out this game sucks.this game is beyond sucking. also be able to fight in different arenas such msg, staples center , mci center etc. also be able to fight in the crowds

Raw is War6822

Tony from CHICAGO, ILL USA says (7/Apr/2002):
One thing i have to say about thq why the hell did you did to this game almost all the people thought it was going to be the $#< remove me > at ! but we thought wrong you have to take my advise company who made raw is war we have to give you some ideas if you are going to make RAW IS WAR 2 you suppose to have the new arena and have all the wrestlers that are in wwf and have Hell in a Cage, Inferno Match, more than 8 Peiple in the ring in a Royal Rumble, Cage Match, and make new Matches thats what people want none stop blood that you could bleed alot of times and whan you bleed the blood is dripping in the floor and have the songs that wrestlers have if undertaker comes with his motorcycle let it be at ring side and you could get in the motorcycle and ran over people take my advise thq.

Dissapointment, but good for the nerves6538

A gamer from Missouri, USA says (23/Mar/2002):
This games is definatley not what I thought it would be. I do have to agree with the other guys and say that the entrances are pretty sweet. I was one of the people that use to be a big console gamer... then nothing new came out so I turned to my PC, which has yet to dissapoint me. None the less I am a big wresting game fan, not so much a fan of wrestling anymore, but definately the games though. Then the recent outbreak of console games peaked my enterest... I was torn between which system to buy. I was leaning heavily towards the PS2 because it had "Legends of Wrestling" which didn't look to bad, but got horrible reviews. So to cut it short I bought the X-Box for WWF Raw. This game has a horrible grapple system, and a real crappy creat a wrestler. It looks like I will be buying an GameCube for the fact that "Wrestlemania" looks like it will be the best wrestling game ever. My point being this, this game is not one of the best wrestling games I have played, but I will try and use it to calm me down before "Wrestlemania" comes out this summer.... I CAN'T WAIT.

what the hell happened6303

Richard Cridlebaugh from Sun City, CA USA says (13/Mar/2002):
I thought this game was going to be the greatest wrestling game i have ever played, but i rather play no mercy for n64. Besides the cool entrences, i regret buying the game. theres no ref, backstage fighting,no voice, ladder match, cage match, and you can't make a wrestling game now a days without having tag team belts. What were they thinking. And then the lack of wrestlers, with the wwf/wcw/ecw joining i thought they would have had more wrestlers, theres none of the top wrestlers from the wcw and only about 3 wrestlers from the ecw, i mean where's rob van dam.
The game play sucks, wrestlers fall like how they did on smackdown for playstation, see what im talking about im comparing playstation to xbox. After playing this game for a short time i get aggrivated because after a while every move that you do starts to effect you and gives them more momentem, because of the lack of moves that the wrestlers have, and even when you do your finisher most of the time the other wrestler gets up and beats the crap out of you. What they need on this game is more gameplay, like a royal rumble, make your own ppv matches, i quit matches, cage matches, and even first blood matches. The only thing i basically liked about it was the cool entrences, and music. Other than that this game was worthless. Take my advice if you want to spend $50 buy some other xbox game. I don't think it's even worth renting. DO NOT BUY THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR A WRESTLING GAME!!!!!!

an incomplete game6085

D. Love from MA, USA says (2/Mar/2002):
I have played pretty much every wrestling game and I thought that this could have been the best one... if they finished the game. The graphics and entrances are incredible, and the game play is good. People think the game play is bad because its not like everyother wresting game where you can win withought even looking at the screen, pressing one botton over and over. It makes it more like the real WWF where there isn't just utter domination in the match, one person with complete control the whole match. In this game, the lead goes back and forth between the wrestlers, and you need a variety of moves to win. But, this game needs to be finished. Not enough wrestlers (WCW/ECW/NWO and even WWF wrestlers), no commentary, and there is no career mode. The create a player goes in depth, but it takes forever to finih. Each wrestler doesn't have enough moves, so towards the end of the match everymove takes away from the bar thing at the bottom because no matter how much you vary, you still use each move many times. The finishing moves arn't effective enough. No tag team titles eiter. And not to mention no backstage, or in the crowd fighting. And very poor match selection. I think a sequel will be interesting to look for because if they make the needed additions and keep the graphics, the game would be the best wrestling game hands down.

Very good game but not enough6085

jonny.b from Montreal,Canada says (28/Feb/2002):
The game is x-tremely good. In fact one of the best wrestling games i've ever played, but i fine the lack of characters bad. What happend to (Scotty-2-hotty,Grand-Master-Sexay ect.) And where did the tag team championship belts go?? The sound and gameplay was very well made. Take for example the Undertaker's entrance, he comes out on his motorcycle just like on the real raw is war and is movements too. The fun factor is x-cellent when your playing multiplayer mode but if you're always playing by yourself it gets boring after a while. Two of the best quality in the game is the create a player and superstars bio. You have lost of stuff you can use to make your own player and on the bio you can even check out the superstars whole entrance video. I bought this game and I think you should by it too!!

Trust your gut not your hype6004

James from Carson, CA. says (26/Feb/2002):
Like many others, I have waited and pondered the release of WWF Raw for Xbox. It was in fact one of the many reasons I alone baught mine. Then, after September 11th tragedy, Raw was pulled back to change the name of the game so that it would not catch publicity for keeping war a constant thought (hence the name raw is war). In my opinion that is not all they should have changed in the long waiting period.

One thing that I think most would agree on, is the simplist fact of all, the fact that the WCW/ECW merge is nowhere to be seen in Raw. Why? There is no reason what so ever.

Another reason Raw is incomplete is because it lacks dephth. No story mode, no "real" match types and not a big enough damn create a superstar. I think that the game is great with the addition that you can carry your belts (won in the championship mode) with your create a player but why not the original wrestlers? I would give anything to see stone cold swagering down the ailse swinging his belt with not a care in the world and then tossing it in the ring while he makes his enterance. Then only to pick it up, climb the turn buckle, fling it back like a dead limb and amass the crowds aproval. Now that is the wrestling I knew.

What about voices, no talking but lip movement makes it a title called Raw is Mimes. It is a cool game but I can almost guarantee that this one needs to soak a little and people who want a real wrestling game should complain about what is missing (like nobody is already) and I can guarantee a sequel that will blow everything else away.

Huge Huge Disappointment6008

Hannibal from Montreal says (26/Feb/2002):
I am a wrestling fan freak who has been playing wrestling games since they first came out on Nintendo (wasn't wwf)and I have been dying to play this game and I wish I knew before I bought this machine that the game I bought it for sucks. The graphics are incredible but as an X Nintendo user I always hated Playstation because of the game play. Sure graphics are better on Playstation but the gameplay rocked on Nintendo. X-Box just took a leap back in time rather than lead the future.

Dont let your first impression fool you!5987

Chase from San Jose, CA. USA says (25/Feb/2002):
Like many of the die hard WWF video game fans, I pre ordered this game about a month in advance. When i first saw the demo, I said I had to have it. The graphics are great, the intro's are fenominal. Yea the wrestlers walk and can be slow, but on every wrestling game they walk untill you make them run. The camera angles are a little different and take some getting used to. I came from the PS1 generation of smackdown and smackdown 2, which i still play by the way, and I would have to rate this game on the same level as those. This game does take more skill. Your special moves arent as easy to do as on the smackdowns. The only reason why i didnt give this game a perfect score was because of the game play modes. This game would rock even more if you can play a season. But other than that, this game was worth my 50 bucks!

Give it Time People!5952

Will from Burlington, Ontario, Canada says (23/Feb/2002):
Yo guys. I have to admit the Raw game is very fun, and the fact that you can pick up weapons and wear them is pretty funny. The thing that got me was the matches....like what the hell! No hell in a cell? Ladder match, I quit, or even a quest Ref? I think that the No Mercy for the Nintendo had poor graphics but it was fun with the many, many matches you can play with it. And another thing about RAW if you go to www.xbox.com and find the RAW game you will notice on one of the images that Austin is bleeding. Now I just tried for at LEAST 15 min just beating the pi$$ out of a guy with a Barbed Wire 2x4 he didn't shed 1 bit of blood. If you delay a game, its to make it beter...and all they did for this is take out the fact to go in the crowd and take off the bleeding..now whats the hell is wrong with that picture? BUT just look at the graphics for this game friggin amazing am I write? The entrances just look so real with the Hardys coming out with Lita which was pretty cool. I DO think that you should buy this game if you like just pure mat action. But if you are up for Harcore style like me...dont get it.
