GV is NOT Halo | | A gamer from Canada says (15/May/2004): | The controls do take a while to get used to, and there is a a repition in it that only Gauntlet Legends can top. But Gauntlet Legends was a fun game. Seccondly THIS GAME IS NOT HALO! So stop comparing them. This game is incredibly unique. The controls are a bit tough to get the hang of, but once you do you can stay in the air blasting rockets at monsters then hovering with the Drive Gun wating legions of bugs. Heck, just flying around shooting nothing looks so cool it's worth doing. And on strafing, you don't need it. Just fly up, down, left, right shooting. Cute main character, but you only see still frames of her for short times :P. Music and sound is another thing to. I was playing at 4 am and hearing that guys voice sent chills in the acid place down my spine. Only complaint is no multiplayer. 16 player multiplayer in this would be INSANE. The normal enemies are tough but don't have your rate of fire or manuverability, so they get easy. But if this had multiplay it would easily be my favorite Xbox party game. All in all GOOD.
| this game be the shiznick! | | meluvboobies from groton, ct says (24/Dec/2003): | first off, all you homos that can't get the controls down properly in the first few minutes are not true gamers, second, the control design is innovative. the game lacks in some areas, but overall, it is truly fun once you stick with it for awhile. graphically, this game shows off the xbox in certain areas, to include the depth of the game as far as how big it is. the one person who wrote the game is for kids could not get the hang of the controls and won't admit it. overall this games kicks insect butt
| cool game | | chris p from new jerssy says (12/Jul/2003): | this game is cool i hust got it and i love it im a big fan of x-box an this is a graet game for x-box what i dont like is that it have no go codes i wis it had better code i gust started the game and i love it
| Game Play **Yawn** | | Leon from USA says (20/Jun/2003): | Ok, Gun Valkyrie is not an "Adult" game if you will.. Its more of a kiddy "Catch on quick" zero skill game, once you start playing, its obvious what to do, theres no secondary missions, just shoot everything with a basic gun, no specials no sleek moves, just run around shooting everything, the story line isn't too thought out, I'll give them credit for a few graphics, but thats about it, I don't know about you guys, but I loved sega back in the day, they made some great games, and atleast with Sonic you can feel a sense of power, with the speed.. This game makes me yawn cause its the same thing over and over and over, no cheats, no secret characters, its a crock, once its done, ITS DONE FOR GOOD... and OOOO theres a new suit for Kelly, me being a guy, I WANT TO play as one in the game, but lets face it, the guy in the game sucks, plus, the game ISN'T a challange at all, just a big waste of time is what i think personally, you don't need to really developed skill in the game so no need to practice, I give this game a big fat PLOP on the score bored and this sums it up
Game Play: Boring
Graphics: Intermediate
Story: Boring
Sound: Decent
Music: rubbish
| Nice, but stages are not well devloped nor the bosses. | | A gamer from USA/Earth says (21/Aug/2002): | Lets face it people, in stage 14 you have a BIG creature that you have to defeat. Then you have no time to get upgrades to try to defeat a little dude with a BIG a< remove me > at $ axe. Ok, the CHICK is very hot, the guy is awesome. The guy has more fire power than the chick, where is his fight in all of this? Is he sipping chinese tea while she gets her a< remove me > at $ kick? Lets face it, Sega could not make it with the big boys in X-box. They should stick with sports games not games for the non-sports players. Atleast in Halo you can switch weapons and use grenades. Sega is a joke when it comes to trying to make a game like Gun Valkyrie. Everything is cool, lets face it when it comes to a boss that is throwing minions left and right out. Then final stage defeat a little dude with a big a$$ when it all comes down to it. I would have rated it 10, but 8 is where it belongs due to my hard time at Nalgfar's Pit 1 and plus the last two bosses. Sega if you are reading this, stick with S P O R T S games and leave the real games to the REAL developers than your sorry self trying to earn hard earn money. Lets face it Sega, washed up just like all the products you made in the past. X-Box, PS2, and Gamecude, just don't waste your time with Sega. Sega is down for the count and Sega you have been hit by A smooth HALO. Peace!
| Superfool2cool4allofyou | | Superfool2cool4u from Flower Mound, USA says (30/Jul/2002): | What is wrong with you people? I am reading the previous reviews and they are complaining about runing! If you would have taken the time to read the freakin booklet, it tells you how to do snap turns. (click in on the right stick) And this is no easy walk in the park! It has taken me a long time, and now I am stuck on the 10 minute timelimit mission! The reason why some of the graphics look a little corny is because it's a mix between CG and Anime slying of art... boy you people are crazy. It says all of this on the box/in the manual. Oh, and to beat the final boss all you have to do is keep hitting him until his defenses are down and then start wailing on him. It also helps if you get all the Halley Cores because then you get the 3rd Gearskin Upgrade... thank you office
| Gun Valkyrie | | dude from SuperMarioLand(i'm bored) says (3/Jul/2002): | first of all, even though i think this game kicks ass, i think the designers of Gun Valkyrie were the laziest people in gaming history. because of the short time restrictions, Gun Valkyrie's controls and true potential were quickly put together without it's overall potential realized. oh yeah, and i'm wondering just one question. Why are Xbox games so short? i mean, they are freaking 80 bucks and it takes me about 4 days (3 hours each day) to beat each game. I've played playstation games that are a week long and i play 5 hours each day. )The minimovies didn't seem actually finished since it seems to me that they were cut off due to limited time. and as everyone knows, the controls are sluggish and really messy, even though i got used to it. I mean, there's that mosquito bomber behind me and it takes me like 20 seconds to turn around. With Gun Valkyie being one of the hardest games in Xbox history (as hard as Halo in Legendary), the controls and mini movies could of at least have been at their best. The bad stuff out of the way, all i have to say is this: THE FEMALE CHICK IS HOT!!!!!, oh yeah and i like the graphics.
| this game kicks a$$, even though i am only on the fourth stage........ | | Jason Long from Salem, USA says (24/Jun/2002): | I'm only on the fourth stage and pretty darn stuck too, but i think this game kicks major ass compared to a lot of xbox games. Gun Valkyrie stands next to Dark Summit in my book (Dark Summit is my favorite) and that has to be pretty frickin good cuz i dont have very many favorites unless they are really good. the controls are a little hard at first, but sooner or later, you'll get the hang of it, every does if they play it long enough. The only part i still have problems with is the looking with the right thumb stick, with the inverted controls and everything, but i'll get the hang of it some time soon. I also dont get how to keep yourself alive in Naglfar's Pit 1, but i soon will know how, if that stupid lil blue beam shooting insect stops killing me, but anyways, overall this game is a huge ass kicker, anyone who has an xbox should at least give this a small try, cuz if you dont, you dont know ehat your missin out on. Also, if anyone wants to let me know anything on how to get past certain areas, i am available on aol instant messenger, my screen name is...sk8erjml12288 and JasonGuitar2003, PS, i could really use some tips and strategies on how to get past some levels. But remember, give GUN VALKYRIE a real try and i can promisemost of you people will have a great time. PLAY IT!!
| one of the best | | Kyle Hubert from Lakecity,FL,,USA says (23/Apr/2002): | What is the big deal? Everyone says the controls for this game are hard. Maybe it is because I play games a lot, but I got the
controls down in a matter of seconds. Within a few hours, I could use the Mobius State at will. You are able to 180 and 90 degree turns, which makes it easier to turn around and move. Hovering is a bit of a pain and it is hard to get the hang of it, but the drill gun will make you hover automatically. The graphics for this game live up to the XBox reputation. The monsters are easy to kill in the beginning, so it makes it fun to play for hours. The game does not have a two player, which would improve the game (a bummer at parties). The upgrades are expensive and you can not go back to play earlier levels to get cash, so get it right the first time! The bosses in this game are hard to figure out how to hurt, but once you know how; they are easy to kill. Some of the levels are hard to beat within the time limit. This game is one of my favorites and everyone should give it a shot.
| Awesome game | | Nosliwex from xboxland, USA says (30/Mar/2002): | Gunvalkyrie, the game that many thought would be the savior of the death after everyone bought Halo, no game came out that could quite live up to spiff as Halo did, then Gunvalkyrie appeared upon the distant horizon and many flocked to it in hopes of a great shoot 'em up that can completely make good use of the xbox's graphics capability, proccesor, etc. well, people didn't get what they bargained for, sure the graphics are awsome with beautiful anime, and when i say beautiful, i mean BEAUTIFUL the gameplay is one of the best in a game i have ever seen, the boosting is fun and never gets old, the levels are challenging and are worthy of your time, take time in the first level to really get used to the controls, also take time to get used to the boost jump and the GV moves, i'm sure you have heard about the controls, a lot of people think they are horrible, i promise that once you master the controls, you will love this game, if you arent sure about the controls form what you have heard, i would perscribe taht you rent it first too see if you can stand the controls, they are easier than people say they are, i had the controls down in 20 min, like i said, awsome game, but the only flaw is the controls, and still, they can be overcomed...
| Short Game, Final Boss odd | | Dragoon from OR 97035 USA says (27/Mar/2002): | Ok so this is a pretty good game all in all. Pointless destruction of alien insects is always good at times for the average gamer. But what is with these Xbox games in only having about 10 levels? I mean my God, I've taken longer playing older system games than it took me to beat HALO and Gun Valkyrie. We are talking days here people, that's how long it took to beat these games, d.a.y.s. And the final boss could be a bit easier! The first time you face him you are absolutely not going to win. Why? because it has no weakpoint! You cannot hit the damn thing. Not with the heat blaster, the drive gun, or even the freaking plasma hook. I only beat it from just running around and firing and hoping that his life bar would go down somewhat. I don't know what's wrong with you people, but that was a b****! Sure you could memorize it's movements, but then you'd have to just get lucky in hitting him, because you can't target the ba$tard. Also it was the fcking devil to get to him! Jesus! One stage then another boss, then you kill him, then you're off to that final thing. And you have to do it all continously! You can't do it one part at a time. BAH! I give you 8 mainly because it's Anime
| Great game, great controls. | | Sam M. from burlington, vt usa says (27/Mar/2002): | This game is awesome, everything about it is great. I dont understand why everyone is complaining about the controls in this game, they arent that bad. I got used to them in about 45 minutes. whereas some people say it takes them like 2 weeks. I dont get it. It just depends on who you are. I just bought the game today, and i love it, it was really worth my 50 bucks. I think all of you should buy this game, if not rent it. If u want a challenge, then hook urself up with this. but if ur one of those thps gamers that goes for the easier stuff. just rent it and have some fun. I mean im a pretty bad gamer, and this came pretty easy. so it cant be that bad. well anyways that is my opinion on Gunvalkyrie for XBOX. its awesome!
| Gunvalkyrie needs re-worked | | Marlon from Valencia, CA -USA- says (26/Mar/2002): | Graphics: beautiful lighting effects, however the textures in the characters and worlds (including the sky) at times could seem very PS2 and Dreamcast oriented. Though at times I admired the shiny walls that show off the Xbox's (or Nvidia's) reflection mapping and bump mipmapping beauty... Walls that look like metal or stone with a poly urethane type coating looked very solid and convincing. Solid graphics is the only way to go. I had very little problem with frame rates, only on some action packed occassions did I witness horrid drops but it remained steady for the most part. As long as it is playable it's fine for me.
Controlls: However I could not get use to the jet pack and controlls!! Somewhere in there, there needed to be a configuration for strafing. Strafe! Strafe! Strafe! Games that have no strafe ability need burning lol. Sometimes you could not activate the jet boosting capability quick enough and when you free fall and really need to get to the bottom fast (aka the ever lasting drops through those wells)
you could not manuever around bounce pads or enemies, without activating the retro boosters only to slow you down or cause you to hit a bounce pad and/or throw you off all together. I have never struggled with such a task (trying to free fall uninterruptably, in a game) lol but sometimes those boosters just made it hard to get somewhere down there, quick. I think in order to activate the retro boosters you only should have to tap the white or black button or maybe even click the left thumbstick in once, so that when you controll yourself and manuever they will not just fire up so easy. Other than that I think that was a great concept. I just could not get use to the controlssss!! I think instead of the right thumbstick being camera view, it should have been strafe the left thumb stick used for looking around and turning like it is now. Has anyone other than me found themself using the right thumbstick to help you move faster and/or to help refine your movements so that you can stay locked on the enemy while you strafe or move? me too but guess what? it's only a camera viewing tool. Which tells me that, those should have been additional manuevering benifits and maybe hold one of the other buttons on the pad, in combonation to the left thumb stick to explore and look around if you needed it. They could have figured something out. They tried too hard to rely on the auto lock feature which is fine but even with auto lock, all you were doing, was shooting the weapon and you may or may not be able to see what you were hitting but your were hitting something. Again we should have complete controll of what we aim at, with the assistance of auto lock. Instead of a "WOOOHOOOO!!!" I give this game a monotoned and bored sounding "oh... yay..." If it wasn't for the frustration of controlls and me wanting to toss it out the window from time to time and me just wanting to stick with playing MDK2 (where you can controll things to a "T"). I may have drooled on this game but all this did was make me miss MDK2 I thought the controlls would have been similar but MDK2 pulls it off much better while still you keep the auto-lock feature. Also maybe it was just me but I never did bother to see if I can increase the Sensitivity of the thumbsticks, maybe I will explore that next but I found myself on my A< remove me > at $ several times because it takes the character too long to turn around and see what direction the A< remove me > at # kicking was going to come from next, only to find myself on the ground before I completed the sluggish 180.
Sounds: Sounds? boring music, not as good as the Techno beats of MDK2, that make you want to dance rather than play the game but rather a very hiphop type elevator music (lol if that's even possible). Sounds were average, aliens didn't have much to say or scream but how weak did that machine gun sound" it was filled with too much treble for the size of such a gun. Maybe the more basey type sound that Halo pulls off with that tripod mounted 50 caliber sub machine gun, would have been more comparable or ideal for a gun of such size but this is only small. I only nitpick on the sounds because I like to feel convinced I am in this world and this is were sound and composing need be more convincing.
Lasthing Appeal: Would last as long as this sentence (you'll die of frustration) na. it's not that bad. Just takes more learning than any other game. Which really it should not.
| Great game potential damaged by sloppy controls | | Danny Taylor from Canada, PEI says (22/Mar/2002): | This game has very beutiful anime style graphics and very unique game play, its shame it seems over looked because of the high difficulty level of the game and the steep learning curve. The sound seems to be just tossed together at the last minute(all the enemys bites sound exaclty the same ect). The games rocket boasting is fun but hard to get used too, and it is used ALOT in the game. This is a good game for a hardcore gamer who isn't afraid to try something new.
