Ths is not a game for the weak hearted | | The Spider from London, England says (17/May/2002): | After streaming through Project Gotham, and trudging all the way back to Blockbuster to return Wreckless, I was still hungry for some speed action. Burnout, after being such a big success on PS2 and GameCube, seemed to be the only racer left worth buying. And boy was I not disappointed. The game has everything, from sleek graphics, to ultra cool NOS injections (just incase you aren't going fast enough). As I burned through the winding levels, I became an addict to the gameplay and the thrill of ramming into the side of an unsuspecting bus or two at 140MpH. As I said before, this game is NOT for the weak of heart, but rather for those of a more distructive and evil nature. The rumble function will have your blood pumping as you bumble across the pebble stones shortly before bursting full out into the unsuspecting "safe drivers" crawling about their daily lives. And with the enourmous amount of signs and obstacles scattered around the levels, you will need have a couple of buckets and sweat cloths on hand. The reason for the '8' however, is the ever ticking clock taking away the freedom to roam the amazing levels. If you think about it, no time limit would be ultra cool as you would be able to drive as one of the normal cars before lashing out on an all out smack into a car coming the opposite direction. It would give the game a build up leading to a satifactory anihaltion resulting in a calm sigh of relief. What the hell, thats just me talking. £45 is well worth it, and I am so glad that it is nestled neatly under Halo and ISS2 (both amazing games)in my room.
| One of the Best! | | Rick from Seattle says (20/May/2002): | I didn't know much about Burnout when I purchased it last week. I hadn't heard of its sucess on the PS2, nor of the reviews given to its Xbox release. I simply picked up the box, and like so many gamers, flipped it over to see what was on the back. I wanted a racing game for my Xbox because I've been a long time racing sim fan. Burnout called to me when I saw that you drove on the streets of cities and not on nice and neat little race-ways. Project Gotham was right up there when I made my decision, and now I'm glad I went with Burnout instead. The graphics are absolutely amazing. Not only was time put into the cars and courses themselves, but also the detail work in the game. You'll never go off the track (from a crash with a petrol-tanker, most likely) and fall into "nothingness" like you would in other games; the courses are complete. The courses don't look confined as they do in other games. Cross-roads and traffic give you the impression that you're in the midst of a huge city and not stuck in some small world with no way out; it's very realistic. The racing engine is amazing and the game is smooth. It rivals the best racing game I've ever played. If you like racing around in games like GTA3 instead of doing missions, Burnout would be the best choice for a real racing game.
| This is the only driving game to buy on XBOX! | | MK from Honolulu, HI says (15/May/2002): | I played Project Gotham *PUKE*, I played EVO4x4 *YAWN*, I played Yakuza Mission *SNORE*. but nothing compares to BURNOUT. Oh my god what an intense game. First, let me say you have to play it on a system with surround sound. The audio is unbelievably real. What makes this game so incredible, is of course - the crashes. You're traveling at 130mph. The forced feedback control is vibrating like crazy. then you miss a turn and smack right into a tour bus, and flip into a semi-truck. The screeching tires, busting glass and metal crunching blasts through 5.1 dolby digital surround sound and makes you scream with fright! Then, it plays it back, again, and again, and again. each time from a different angle. Then your back on the road to do it all over again. Nothing compares to this on XBOX, nothing. Added bonuses include race replays, crash replays with camera control, and crash only saves(because who really wants to save a whole race). There are about 6 cars to start then another 3 you can unlock. 12 tracks, and unlimited scenarios. =
| fun game for rent | | Adam from Auburn, Alabama says (6/May/2002): | This game is definitly a fun and interactive game, but there were a few things i didn't like. First, there are only a few cars to choose from. Also it is strictly a driving game(pick a car and drive a course) much like the arcade game driving usa and such. The really good side of the game is the graphics, gameplay, realism, and just general fun of the game. There is realistic driving physics, some of the smartest AI i've seen in an interactive street driving game, and some of the best graphics in a racing game i've ever seen. All in all this game could be beaten by a hardcore game player in a couple days at the longest so i'd say go rent it and have fun till you have to return it.
| This game will have your adrenaline pumping | | Taylor Yeates from Wales says (7/Jul/2003): | This is a crazy white knuckle experiance and a must for all speed freaks. The crashes are fantastic and the speed is insane. The object of the game is to race your way through oncoming traffic against 3 other cars trying to place 1st which is hard because your likely to crash every time you turn a corner, drive on the wrong side of the road or go through a red light. You can now find this game in the Xbox classics range for only £20.00 so this game is an absolute bargain and well worth your money!
| It is mad | | Dancin Damo from Los Angeles says (2/Mar/2003): | It is a great game and if you don't own it you have to get it it is mad. I love it, it is so much fun and the screen goes really fast and it is fabulous. You have to play it. it is truly a GREAT game my whole life revolse around it is the best. it is the worlds best game in the world.
