Most excellent Sea Doo racing game | | Bill from Southern California says (4/Jan/2003): | Let me start by saying I love Waverace: Blue Storm for the Gamecube-- it's one of my favorite games-- but I gotta admit Splashdown (xbox) is equally as good, just different. Sitting down on a Sea Doo feels more racinglike to me than standing on a Jet Ski so it felt good right from the start. Gameplay is excellent and little more forgiving when it comes to twisting through the flags than Waverace. I like how your watercraft shoots forward and gets a bit smaller when you accellerate and the opposite upon braking. But the real star of the show is the water. While not as crystal clear and fantasylike as the Gamecube offering, Splashdown went for total realism of the ocean with the most amazing and lifelike representation seen in a video game yet. The waves rolling towards you look, act and feel as real as can be. Anyone with a weak stomach should definitely keep a barf bag handy. The large ramps let you catch more air and pull off longer tricks than Waverace. The sounds are also very good with a fine engine whine and water splash. Overall, this is a great racing game that no racing fan should be without. Don't get me wrong though, I still like Waverace just as much and will never tire of Jet Skiing with dolphins in a dreamlike setting.
