Good Game Play,Good Story, Usually don't get both |
| UNInspector from Denver, USA says (8/Nov/2003): |
The truth of the matter is that this is not the Best game I have ever played... but it WAS good. I think the story line is quite a bit better then what we have seen lately. I have always been partial to games with good story lines. If your like me pick up Shenmue 2. Great Game.

WIERD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| David John Hanley from England,London,Harrow says (18/Aug/2003): |
This game is great but there is 1 problem thats y i gave it a 8 not a 10.The reason i gave it a it a 8 is bcoz theres not enough saving points and it can die easy sometimes bcoz there normally is about 3 guys with shotguns and they all shoot at once and then your dead!!And also wen u want to use the dog attack it does sumtin different!!Apart from that everytin else is 10!!!!

Best Game Since Halo |
| A gamer from California San Diamas, USA says (10/Jul/2003): |
This game is the best since Halo. The graphics are alright and the sound is ok but this game is all about the action. There's a good amout of action and weapons, but what I liked the most of this game was the story. It's about a cop who's father(who is also a cop)was murdered. Now his after the murder, but before that, there's alot more to take care of. The only bad things about this game are your lifespan and your ammo. But other than that, you should buy this game.

Fair game, but too steep of a learning curve |
| Sutebe from Harrisburg, USA says (5/Jul/2003): |
Max Payne was a perfect example of balanced difficulty. Dead to Rights is not. The first level is ridiculously easy, even for a training level. The second level, however, is horribly much more difficult than the first.
Enemies have infinite ammunition, while you only continue to run out of it. Even if you hit an enemy, it'll take at least as many bullets to kill him as it does to kill you.
Shadow is a great addition to the game and pretty much the best part of the game. It's entirely possible on some levels to rely completely on Shadow by hiding, targeting an enemy, and sicking Shadow on him.
The game has a lot of positives - original concept, fun when it's not hard-as-balls, and great graphics (aside from that cooky-legged stripper). The story ain't bad either.
But the game is much too difficult, regardless of what that liar claiming he beat the game on the first day says. Things are horribly balanced against you to the point where sometimes, it just isn't fun. And for the cheating folk: there are none. Enjoy.
Still, if you enjoy a (very hard) challenge and aren't prone to breaking your controller in frustration, the game has a lot to offer. If you're normal, though, it's best to stay away, or maybe buy the PS2 or GameCube versions if you own one of those systems - they're significantly easier. Those of us with just an X-Box should stick to the finely-toned Max Payne.

not so great |
| almostthere from Saint Cloud MN 56301 says (25/Apr/2003): |
Do not see anything great about the game, it looses its appeal too quick, 5-or 6 should be fair rating for this game. I think namco should start trying new things, we have seen this stuff in payne and this does not bring a whole a lot of new stuff to the tabe.

Dead to Rights |
| Rod Trussardi from Kent. United Kingdom says (25/Feb/2003): |
Dead to Rights,ermm....i must say its pretty cool very similar to Max Payne but more in your face!! Gameplay is fantastic only let down is the graphics, FMV intro movie is so cool its a shame they didnt carry it on with the games cut scenes. The bullet time action is just BAD-ASS!!! Mini games are a wicked idea just to break down the repetition of the game, camera angles can be annoying at time but its good that you can change them in the options. Weapons a lovely selection well done boys! oh especially the shoot the canister in bullet time and BOOM!!! overall mad and in yer face max payne style shooter but with more BOOM!! a bit of a let down in the graphics department doesnt push the specs of the box to its limits like some other games i.e. Splinter Cell, Halo, etc. But easy to put up and play highly additive!

Oh man! The Greatest Game of All Time!!!!!! |
| Abuzar from Pakistan, Lahore says (13/Feb/2003): |
This Game is the ebst shooting gae I have ever played. The graphics are good and the sound is perfect. Some of the missions are though but it's a good game. The games is very realistic the voilence and the blood and gore are the most realistic of them all but the game has some funny things also like clown with guns this is a good game to buy and play 8 out of ten THIS GAME RULES!!!!!
|
The game is tight |
| Ryan Styx from Dumfries, Va. says (16/Jan/2003): |
Don't get me wrong, this is one of the tighest games I've ever played, but some parts of it are too hard. After you get through with one hard part, you're right back in another hard part, with as much health as you managed to salvage from the previous death trap. After scouting a level a few times and finding where health is and where enemies appear the difficulty does tend to go down a bit, but it is very frustrating at times. The game kicks < remove me > at $$ though and I'm gonna go get back to it now. Lay'as.

worst game ever!! |
| A gamer from beverlyhills,california,usa says (2/Jan/2003): |
This game sucks it is a bite off of max payne. Namco really sucks balls, GTA Vice city is way better Namco should stick to fighting games. The graphics are ok but I would not pay for this stupid, dumb game. The ending really sucks to. All of the missions suck except the mission when you are in jail. When you have an opinion about a game or some one else does you have to ask yourself one question, would you buy it or pay for it. I would not. Namco sould just leave the shooting games Rockstar.
|
Oh yes! |
| Zack from Tucson, Az USA says (29/Dec/2002): |
Namco...you are da BOMB!!!! Finally a better game than Max Payne. THE GOODS: Superb frame-rate, options are excellent, fun-factor is a complete 10, graphics are tight, new weapon called "Canister" can take out a whole group of enemies with a single shot, weapons are very nice and polished, lighting is perfect, Jack's side-kick is a dog named "Shadow"...with Shadow you can target a close enemy and Shadow will take care of him and bring his gun right to you, story is an unfolding tale of corruption, greed and murder. THE BADS: Bad camera angles. If you liked Max Payne, you will surly like Dead To Rights! Seriously, who cares about other shoot-em-up games that doesn't even have a meaning? Very few of my games get my 10 star salute, but if one does, be sure to pick it up!

If you cant hack it put the controller away! |
| Gabe Maldonado from Wesley Chapel, Florida says (26/Dec/2002): |
Dtr beats max payne so many ways it wasnt even funny. Yeah sure I beat the game the first day I got it, but Im still playin it! Max Payne looks like a panzy compared to Jack Slate. Sorry for all of you weak gamers that can't beat it, maybe you should stick to max payne(its easier). Fast gameplay, the ability to throw canisters and crispy fry attackers, not to mention shadow your faithful attack dog, and all those kickazz disarms make Dead to rights the game to beat.

to hard to fast |
| carter from north caroina usa says (24/Dec/2002): |
this game is really good but the olny thing about it, it that you need to have a time to learn all the moves and diffent type of attacks. i just bought the game today nad i cant put it down even-thoughi cant get past the second chapter. i need some more practice.

For sure Top 10 PS2 Game!! |
| Kyle from Turlock, Ca says (17/Dec/2002): |
There are so many bad azz PS2 games that it is hard to say it's the best BUT, this is one SICK AZZ GAME!!!! I have read almost every review on this page and can't believe that anyone would bash this game. It is pretty obvious though that the only ones bitching about it are the ones who thought it was to hard, obviously cause they can't handle a good challenge. Oh yea, also Max Payne DOES NOT even touch DTR, Not even close. I sold Max Payne back after one day because it BLEW SO HARD!This game DOES have awsome graphics it DOES have great sound great guns, lots of sick azz moves(like the matrix shiz) I am so glad I spent $50 on it, totally worth it. If you don't already own it, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??? Trust me, you WON'T be disapointed!

SICK GAME |
| A gamer says (14/Dec/2002): |
I think this is one of the best, if not the best game I have ever played. The graphics for this game are insane, I thought the game play, and some of the things you could do in this game were really new to 3rd person games ie: the human sheild and the cool disarms. Dead to Rights is a way better game than Max Payne, personally I thought max payne sucked, the game play was so slow it was embarrising to the creators. On the other hand Dead to Rights has everything a game ever needs. Granted it was hard to beat, but not impossible, that adds to the fun factor of playing this game over and over again. It was so worth the 50 bucks

Challenging |
| LilWebby from Minnetonka, Minnesota, Unites States says (14/Dec/2002): |
The game test yours skills and stratagies, need to fast and smart. This game is not for begginers. Takes alot of time. Need to do many spots more then once to see how to make it through. Some spots u need to just run through others u need to take your time and snipe out everyone u can or wait for them to some to u. The graphics are alright and the voices are great. The varity of guns to choose from is good and the the dog "Shadow" is a great add to the game incase u are in trouble or have low ammo. Parts of the game u might need to look online to figure out how to get past expecially the bosses becuase each one has it's own weakness or way of beating them. Some bosses u attack others u wait til they attack u first. That's why this game tests u on how well u are able to change your ways of playing. If u do the same stratigy through the whole game u wont make it very far at all. Thats why i believe this a great game to own but it sucks that it is only one player, but two or more players for this game would be very hard to create.

Sick of |
| Kyle Chevalier from Acushnet (MA), USA says (12/Dec/2002): |
Dead to Rights has to be one of the best games I've ever played. I've been buying Nintendo games since I was 3. The problem is that although Nintendo kicked ass for my childhood years, it got more and more for the kids. Nintendo went from thought out plot to Kid crap. Finally there is a game that is hard as hell to beat and all the people who have been playing the easy games are complaining. A game is A GAME. It's not a waste of time. If you don't want a challenge why buy the game? The graphics were awesome, although not as good as Halo, but also didn't have the massive budget for Halo either. The Camera angle does suck, but the weapons, fighting tech's, human shield, etc. make up for it. If you don't want a game that you'll have to try at, then this is NOT the game for you. If you want a innovative challenging game, this is for you.
|
you f'in babies... this game is awsome! |
| terra from united states says (11/Dec/2002): |
for starters... if you are whining and complaning that this game sucks than that means that you suck at video games and you should get the f out of the electronic section and stop playing them or play the easy ones for kids. This game is awsome, sure it takes a while to get and you may need help, but after a couple of tries you will be able to pass any level. The graphics are excelent (especially in the cut scenes, you control a dog to do your bidding, you play mad fun mini games, you get to disarm bombs, get out of a drowning tank, control a gun on a choper, play with flamethrowers, electricute a man, disarm them all in the coolest ways, sound is great, music is wonderful, you get to kick the living s*it out of a guy in the gas chamber, fight a fat mayor, escape from prison, and the list goes on. The game play is excellent and you get caught up in the game really easy and quickly if you pay attention because the corruption and twists are perfect (i played on it for an hour plus when i thought i was on it for 25 minutes. If you say it's a max payne rip off and you like max payne better or if you like other games better and have nothing better to do than b*tch and moan about this game than go play one of those games and leave the rest of the people who like this game alone. you all bore and anoy me anyway.

fucking armwrestling thing |
| bill from oak-town, nj says (10/Dec/2002): |
im playing dtr right now, and i am stuck at that $#< remove me > at !ing stupid arm wrestling match. goddammit it is so stupid. on the otherhand i love the game and wouldnt call it a max payne rip off. infact i would call it an improvement on a good idea. its max payne plus mgs' wallhugging feature plus a creative game engine. the only thing i would say is directly taken from payne was the dive feature, but i hardly use that anyway.

For All Those Little People Who Complain! |
| James from Scarborough, Ontario says (8/Dec/2002): |
This is no max payne. DTR puts max payne to shame, The ability to use ppl as human shields and disarm them are qualities that max payne could never have. I must say that the bullet time in MP was and is better than DTR's but still. MP gets so boring once you beat the first 2 times. When you firs play it "Yeah it's sooo $#< remove me > at !ing wicked, i'm buying it for sure" well it's a waste of money once you beat it. I was hoping that the difficulty setting in max payne (new york minute) was more of a challenge. The concept of you whiners claiming that this game sucks is an outrage. Don't complain about a game that you idiots can't beat! Just sit down and get through it. Once you start to listen to the story line and get used to the idea of whats going on then it will be alot better than max payne. I meen who are you kidding, can max use canisters and chuck them at ppl then blow them up? NO! Can Max use ppl as shields? NO! Can Max use a dog companion to take out that last bad guy when you have no ammo and are low on health? you know the answer! So for those of you who have never played it b4 i would recomend it. Of course max payne is a good game and all but get serious. DTR is far superior than what it is originally supposed to be. The game play is amazing, the sound quality is amazing, but the only problem with it is the camera. but it adjusts itself when playing. I have to give namco credit tho, the idea of jack to be a k-9 cop. is actually quite amusing. No one has ever done a game like that. So for all those ppl who look for challenges in games i would highly recomend this one!
