Rough-Cut Jewel | | Jacob Gullickson from Stillwater, MN, USA says (23/Sep/2002): | Terminator: Dawn of Fate, is a decent game, once you get around a few things. My expectations were high, after watching the intro cut scene. Looks good, lots of action, terminator bots I had never seen before... so far so good. Then I started playing.
Third person 3D from fixed camera angles which constantly switch leave me looking for my own feet. If you played Resident Evil, you know what I mean. You're walking along, not a care in the world, and all of a sudden, your camera switches, you're surrounded by enemies, and you're walking into a wall. Fortunately most of the fights take place in open spaces. Aiming is assisted by a right-trigger lock-on, but the lock seems to switch at will and practically targets at random. I'll be nose to nose with an enemy, and suddenly I'm targeting the enemy across the room. Even worse is when I'm in a heated battle, and I retreat to a corner, only to find that the camera switches again, and now I'm firing off screen. If this game was done in the Max Payne style of control and envronment exploring, it would be great. But I guess there's not much to be done about it now.
For fine-tuning your shots, there is a left-trigger first person mode which, unfortunatly, has no inverse-look option, and you can't move while targeting too. So you become a sitting duck.
The addition of melee fighting was oddly well done for such a frantic shooter. The sweep-kick that your character can do, will knock down everything nearby, including fellow soldiers. You can take out multiple enemies at a time though with a sweep-kick, electronic baton combo.
All in all, graphics are decent, music is good, sound is good, control is horrible, and the fun comes and goes in waves.
| Good Expectations | | Will McAllister from England, Wangford Suffolk says (21/Apr/2003): | Like me, alot of you who saw the films and loved em, then played the game would agree that the story line was well thought of leading us up to the first terminator, the minute I bought this game I couldn't wait to get back and shoot something. The opening sequence is brilliant lots of action in the futuristic battlefield and the intro sequence before levels are also good.
However I was really disapointed with the gameplay, the camera angles were poor and the controls were an absoulute nightmare! But I struggled on and managed to complete the game and I did NOT regret buying it.
Well done to atari on this game but also to atari, if ya make another terminator game perhaps with the possibility of playing a terminator(that would be the tits), a bit more planning and think about the gameplay boys and girls.
But well done and keep it up.
| this game is.......okay | | keith from USA says (7/Feb/2003): | this game is okay i mean if ya like to shoot of heads good graphics but the controling is BAD i mean Bad the camera angels change atoumactically making you go backwards(back to were you were before the camera angle changed) and it gets frustrating. and the shoot i dont like you haft to push the x button i think but its a cool game a lot of downers on it though :( atri your doing good but need to do better :)
| Good game, Bad Control | | James from California, USA says (3/Dec/2002): | Terminator was a good game, the story line was great! Then it came down to playing and the control was horrible. The camera angles would change and leave you running in a direction that is not your choice. It had good music and the SFX were not to bad. Overall the game was enjoyable at some points and frustrating < remove me > at others due to bad control.
| Almost Better Than Halo | | anik roy from NEW YORK, USA says (25/Jan/2003): | This was a great game its so cool! I wish the game continued. Atari did a great job. I hope Atari does even better games. The graphics were great. I hope Atari keeps up the great work.
