| Marijn van Latenstein from Omaha, USA says (2/Dec/2002): |
I just cant believe how good the game is. I mean, its like real life. your bag gets stolen, you meet people and talk to them, and you need to get a part time job. So all you people who dont like this game, DONT PLAY IT THEN!!!

This game is why I want an XBOX |
| tuna from New York says (27/Dec/2002): |
If you know me which probably none of you do then you know I love Final Fantasy and would buy a system just to play (example: I bought gamecube for when Final Fantasy: CC comes out). Anyway I bought a dreamcast awhile back and bought Shenmue because I heard it was alright...well my friends alright didn't describe it. It was one of my favorite games just falling short of the ff series. So when I heard 2 wasn't coming out for Dreamcast but XBOX I was pissed. I had bought a PS2 and Gamecube but didn't want an XBOX because all it had was Halo. Then I played Shenmue 2 at a friends house and I have two words; GOT DAMN (thats right "GOT" Damn not GOD DAMN but GOT DAMN) This game owned. I may buy a XBOX just for this game.

Shenmue 2, best sequal created? |
| Wrench from cardboardbox,ghetto,sewercity says (18/Jan/2003): |
Shenmue 2 had no graphic improvments but it had no slowdown like the first one did. If graphics is all you care about in a game then I'm sorry if you can't enjoy games for what they are created for. Shenmue 2's realism is superb. I can tell it must of been alot of hard work to create 1000 NPCs, and have almost everyone talk to you. The thing that was missing that was from the first is to interact with everything like in the first, which makes sence because the games's world is alot bigger. I hope Shenmue 3 does not make the same mistakes by not having graphics that can take hold of the x-box's power. If there is one game to get it's difently Shenmue 2.

Not an improvement, but still great! |
| Stinger Red from Bitburg, Germany says (20/Jan/2003): |
The sequel to the hit game, Shenmue, returns to the on-going storyline of Ryo's quest to avenge his father's murder. The game will have SEGA Dreamcast-owners weeping and Xbox-owners cheering.
Although much of the game has remained un-changed from it's prequel, it's still a fun RPG and will keep you busy for some time. It's a game to play if you have an amount of spare time on your hands; at times, you just can't put the controller down.
The QTEs are more challenging, and the overall objectives are harder to accomplish. The game's new charcters are as complete and fruitful as in the prequel, and one of the most entertaining parts in the game is character-interaction. If the game has a downside, it's the fact that you can only fight in actual battles. Gamers who enjoy beating up and robbing helpless, law-abiding citizens will be dissapointed [buy Grand Theft Auto].
But the overall ability to do and see just about everything in the game is a definite substitute. The city of Hong Kong is a big one, so there's definetly a lot to do and see.
The martial-arts fighting is as good as ever, and many of the moves are taken directly from actual, existing techniques. Sorry guys, not wall-climbing, triple-flipping, or spin-around-on-top-of-your-head stuff here. Buy a game like Tekken if you want that.
So, in a wrap-up; YES, the game is great, YES, it is worth your while, and YES, you do want to go out and buy the Xbox system to play it.
YES, it is that good. Yu Suzuki scored big-time with this one.

Its the best x-box game since ghost recon |
| Adam from dodge city says (10/May/2003): |
I think shenmue 2 is the best game out there for the x-box. I used to just like the x-box for splinter cell and ghost recon, but when i bought shenmue for the dreamcast I just went crazy when i beat it, because I had thought there was not going to be a shenmue 2 for the dreamcast, Because I had just bought shenmue 1 in february of 2002 and by that time the dreamcast was dead for the U.S. then I was looking for games to buy over the internet on ign.com around may, when I had seen a shenmue 2 popup about there being a shenmue 2 coming for the x-box. so I can't wait for shenmue 3 to come out whenever.

What were they thinking? |
| M Duncan from Fort Gordon USA says (11/Nov/2002): |
Besides the 16 bit graphics and completely linear game play, I guess it isn't that bad. Well, it is. I just paid 7 bucks to rent it for 5 days, and I'm going to return it asap. Anyone who wants an honest review, believe me, save your money.

Hello! Excuse me... where is my school? ... Ok, let's go. |
| Brad Felizardo from Luanda, Angola says (18/Mar/2004): |
Man, what a waste of money, i heard a lot about this game so i got it, now i don't know how people thinks this game is great, because it isn't, or maybe they never played other games like Final Fantasy. Just to start, you'll play with a toy face like guy named Ryu, man, this is the worst character i ever saw, i even prefer playing with Eike (Shadow of Memories,PS2), man even Tidus(Final Fantasy 10,PS2) is much better than this 3D-guy!! Just the way this Ryu walks almost breaks my brain, and the camera seems to be on the floor or something, and you can't change it, you may rotate it but it'll be the same when you release the stick. Now, just pay attention to this situation: You are on a foreign country or just arrived, you don't know nothing about it. You need money, you ask anyone on the streets and they will tell you where/how to get it; you need a job, you ask someone on the streets and they will tell you where/how to get it (and sometimes they will take you there!!!); you need to go somewhere, you ask someone on the streets and they will tell you where (and ALMOST EVERYTIME they'll take you there); you need... ask... they'll tell... you need... ask... yeah i see... go there, man! I bet you already can see how stupid this sounds! Everyone on the streets is a tourist guide! Even kids! Just ask that guy to do this here in Angola, sooner or later he'll take a hair chop from someone, a thing he needs. And that poor battle system, man, it's similar to True Crime's Street of L.A. battle system, and something tells me it's worst. This is the worst "RPG-like" game i ever played (yeah, and just like!), i even prefer to play Ephemeral Fantasia (PS2) or FF9 (PS1 !!), i prefer those lil-chats with the people around the towns of those games than just playing a pathetic game where you are a pathetic guy asking everybody where he is or where he has to go.

TRUST ME, SHENMUE FANS, RENT IT FIRST! |
| Graham from NYC says (27/Dec/2002): |
This game has no graphic improvements. Horrible gameplay. You can't even attack unless in battle scenes. It's okay in the beggining, but new types of QTE battles destroy the game. I know you Shenmue fans want it, but rent it first. Then decide.(Slow simulation isn't so cool.
