MGS 2 rocks37158

Robin from Oegstgeest, teh Netherlands says (21/Dec/2003):
I have a xbox and was really happy when I heard that MGS was coming out for the xbox. When it came out I bought it right away and loved it right away. What I really like about MGS 2 is the action and the story. Some people say the story is weak but I really like it. What I dislike about MGS 2 is that the ending bosses aren`t as exciting as MGS 1, and offcourse another bad point is RAIDEN!!!. I just don`t understand Konami. If you have a hero like Snake you mustn`t trade it for some blond hair gay.
Also, the cutscenes are a bit to long just like the phoneconversations. The graphics are great and the gameplay too.
If you haven`t played Sons of liberty on PS 2 and you own an xbox you have to check this out cause it`s really great. Oh and before I forget: I also own Splintercell and I like MGS 2: Substance better. I rest my case.

good but not as good as splinter cell!!!!33847

filo boy from Sydney, Australia says (21/Oct/2003):
  first things first.....
when i first played metal gear solid one on my beloved playstation i was blown away and the game delivered so much of what it promised so when there was news about a sequel, like most people i couldn't hardly wait and then the hype started coming in from the magazines and it looked like it was promising so much but when i finally got my hands on it i was kinda disappointed.

the first thing that disappointed me was that there was too much cut scenes and they could go on for hours and i gotta say its a fun killer coz everytime you move a further from where you are, you get a codec from otacon and sometimes you get frustrated from these.I know that it is the trademarks of metal gear solid but i kinda think that they done it too much and it felt like you were watching a movie rather than playing a game.....

the second thing is how not even halfway through the game, you have to control raiden which i think is a really $#< remove me > at ! character and that was a huge disappointment for me.....i mean like a james bond movie wont be the same without bond in it right.....

and also the third thing is how i found it really short i mean like most of the time you were watching cut scenes of the game so that in mind then the gameplay must be really short......

so with these flaws of the game...i will have to say that i was kinda disappointed even though it is a good license game and it did deliver most of the physics it promised......i hope metal gear solid 3 would be improve but until then i will stick with splinter cell....its a lot better.....i think it is the new metal gear solid.....

The console you play it on does matter.31211

ben winstone from gloucestershire england says (29/Aug/2003):
I dont know why people are putting xbox down it is much better than ps2.I have substace for xbox and my friend has it for ps2, together we played them and completed them with both consoles and we noticed a few changes in the two. For example the graphics on xbox are slightly better, The ps2 slows down sometimes when something big is happening like and explosion from fortunes gun, The xbox runs a lot smoother and feels nicer to play. We tried this with a few other games and we kept noticing the same things happening. We wrote to the xbox and ps2 developers and asked wat kind of software and hardware was in the two machines. Xbox has much more memory, speed and graphics capability. The ps2 is fast but not as fast as xbox its the same with the graphics.Other problems are ps2`s memory card they fill up so quickly but with xbox you dont need one which is another advantage.Overall xbox is a much better machine, so this christmas dont write ps2 on your lists, write xbox, I an 300% sure you would have more enjoyment and fun out of it.In conclusion xbox get 98% and sadly ps2 get 85%.

PS2 or XBOX?29016

VICTORay VERCETTI from Dallas,TX U.S. of A says (30/Jul/2003):
who cares? While MGS:Substance is now on both consoles, people are still pointing that finger at microsoft like their panties are around their ankles. first things first... the slowdown that occurs on the tanker(on xbox) doesn't occur on Sons of Liberty(PS2). But keep in mind the dramatic increase of content, or shall we say "substance" that the xbox version carries. and if you think that the PS2 version of Substance is top dog, then you will be very surprised to see that not only does it contain slowdown on the tanker, but in other portions of the game as well(yes in VR, too). some might say that the inclusion of a skateboarding VR missions is a nice addition, i just see it as hardnosed PS2 lover on the edge of their "xbox vs. PS2 argument" rope. anybody who plays skateboarding video games knows that Konami CAN NOT make a decent skating game. so where's the fun in playing a carbon copy of Evolution skateboarding when we could rip it up with tony hawk(3 or 4) on xbox or ps2? so what's the better game? well i think that in order to play SOL in it's perfection, you should play both the original(on PS2) or SUBSTANCE(it doesn't matter which console because they are both good). Oh by the way, the Xbox version looks a tad better. it's your call though, so make it!

Unbelieveable24125

A gamer from Debary (USA) says (26/May/2003):
This game is awsome. The grafics are great. The people look real and when you shoot someone blood splatters. This game gets real as it gets. I mean if you outside in the rain you'll get a cold and the gaurds might catch you. So you got to be stealthy. I would recommand to buy this game.

metal gear23189

snake champion from england says (10/May/2003):
metal gear solid 1&2 are the best games ever! metal gear solid 1 is the best because its another new story, but unfortunatly the only bad thing about 2 is the 2,3 etc. of other games drags on a bit but final fantasy and metal gear still rule!(but they are too easy :( .)

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!23189

jack berry from suffolk , england says (21/Apr/2003):
they have finally made a game that is realistic. you have to move bodies or people see them and go into evasion mode. you have to be stealthy - most of the time.
you can't just run in shooting - or your an idiot like me. but i think the best part of the game is the graphics. when you shoot someone blood comes out of them and splatters. your people look real.raiden and snake are just the best part of it.
i don't belive that people can say that this is'nt the best game ever. but my overall review hasd got to be : this game rock's

Hideo Kojima = Pure Genius21437

Metal_Gear_Master from Australia says (16/Apr/2003):
Metal Gear Solid was a revolution in gaming for me. Such a brilliant story, suberb characters, and gameplay like no other, I would say, and I am sure a sufficiant amount of people would agree with me, that Metal Gear Solid was one of the greatest games ever to be produced, if not the greatest. With the realise of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for PS2, this just added to the phenomenom. And now with Metal Gear Solid Substance, I wonder what will be next? Although I am slightly disapointed with this game, it is still highly enjoyable, and a challenge to defeat. Substance clocks up more gaming time that Son's of Liberty, the most obvious reason is ofcourse that it already comes with Son's of Liberty, which already add's gameplay, but with the some 500 plus extra missions.i finished Son's of Liberty in rougly 10 hours the first time I played it - Substance has already clocked up 22 hours, and I am only 80 % on missions, although I have finished Snake Tales. But that is already twice the amount of playtime than Son's Of Liberty. I can only speach for myself though...My only flaw with this game is that it can become repeditive. When I saw all the empty spaces for the characters I was very excited, and antisipated being able to play as Revolver, or Solidus, however, the characters were just different versions of Snake and Raiden, which I found very disapointing. I believe Hideo could of put more effort into this game, as I would of loved to see different playable characters, or at least a ninja which could perform like Gray Fox In MGS: VR Missions for PSX. But when it comes done to it, Hideo Kojima is pure genius, and I just pray the next Metal Gear, (if there is one of course) is as great the previous games.)One more note, the extra disk is fantastic, and well worth taking a look at.

Great game with many new goodies but little use of the xboxes capibilities20068

Scott from Forest Hill, MD, USA says (28/Mar/2003):
MGS2:S is a great game, the new characters, 300+ VR missions, and snakes tails make this much, much more than just a PS2 port. However, there was not a significant change in the graphics that I had hoped for. If Hideo would have used the xboxes capibilities to a greater extent (such as more bump-mapping) than I would've given this a 10. I wanted the story to change, but I didn't anticipate that Hideo would tinker with his story line anyway. Other that these two faults, MGS2:S is a great game.

classic19971

tyler durden from middlesborough says (27/Mar/2003):
metal gear solid 2 substance is pure classic. the graphics r immense, new vr missions are brilliont training and the overall storyline is excellent. the only problem is it is too story based and you have to listen to too much speach in the codec. overall though i would give it a 10/10 tyler D

Really good game!19488

A gamer from Ohio, USA says (18/Mar/2003):
Metal Gear 2 is more than just a game. Yeah, as you start off, it seems like a pretty typical game; however, once you get into the game, especially into the second level, you realize this game, as halfcut said, "speaks to you." I enjoy philosophy and gaming and this is a combination of both in a way. I hope to see more games like this in the future.

The greatest game ever made.19431

Arsalan from Bredford, UK says (17/Mar/2003):
In order to understand the story line you need to play MGS on the psx but you can still enjoy the stunning Grafix, Magnificent soundtrack, excellent story line which you will get in to i promise and offcourse the brillient Game Play. The movie scenes will take your breath away with twists and surprises to the storyline which will make you play non stop. For the people who just like shooting V.R (Vertual Reality) missions will be enough. The genere is an original the first game to use stealth rather then just comming in and shooting the bad guys. I insaure you the hiding from the enemy is more fun then killing it. Value is great the game is worth it. My advice is Buy it! it will be the best game you will ever buy in your life!

PS2 OR XBOX VERSON: READ HERE19247

Simon from England says (14/Mar/2003):
When I first played metal gear solid 2 on ps2 I thought it was a great game infact its probably the best game I have ever played, Untill I got to the plant section. RAIDEN WHAT KIND OF A NAME IS THAT ANY WAY??? The xbox verson of the game is great and looks identical to the ps2 verson but there is alot of slow down in the xbox verson especialy on the tanker stage. The graphics on solid objects are more blurred and pixled that the ps2 verson as well. WHY IS THE PS2 VERSON BETTER THAN THE XBOX VERSON!!!

Cunningly superior gameplay17559

Halfcut from Indianapolis, Indiana says (15/Feb/2003):
There are just too many reasons to list on why this game should be on your shelf. Aside from the superior grafics, gameplay, and plot development the hundreds of mini-levels will keep you busy for weeks. On a suprising note, I actually liked how a game ended for a change, it really made me feel like I actually acomplished somthing instead of vegging out for a few weeks, it really spoke to me you know. That said, this game gets a 17 out of 10.
