Back to the basics.18411

Gary from Aberdeen, SD, USA says (28/Feb/2003):
First of all, I've gotta hand it to midway. They did a great job on most of the graphics, but there were definately some details that were overlooked. I won't get into expaining each one in particular being that there are quite a few. But they did give the game a more realistic edge which was complimented well by giving each character three different fighting styles. I like that they added the konquest mode, but it's still lacking quite a bit. I also liked that they brought back the test your might, and added the test your sight. What really gets though is the fact that there's only one fatality per character, and the secret characters don't even have one. I don't know what the midway team was thinking, that's what the games all about! I like to see my opponents to get sliced, diced, torn to shreds, ripped apart limb by limb, and just completely dismantled. Who wants to see the same lame ass fatality over and over again. They could've at least kept the pit fatalities, or created something to add a little flavor. Most of the fatalities they do have aren't even very impressive to begin with. Overall it's still one of the best fighting games ever, but I would really like to see the fatalities, brutalities, anamalities, and the ever so popular Liu Kang brought back.

its the mother of all mortal kombat games.18249

A gamer from chicago,illinois USA says (25/Feb/2003):
this game is the greatest game of all! All the blood gore and fatalities are the best part. But the one thing that I hated is lue kang getting killed. Can you guys please bring him back to life in MK6 please??!! All the 3D and martial arts are cool too. Konquestmode, gaining koins, the kontent and all the other extra features are really cool too. Ive been a fan of mortal kombat for years so keep thinking up of more motal kombat games. And please bring lue kang back please??!!

I liked it but they didn't have to kill Liu Kang off.Bring him back to life in MK6 please?18092

Dr. Mel from Newberry,South Carolina ,USA says (23/Feb/2003):
They at Midway are on top of there game on this one.I give them a 5 cause I feel it could have been better.Don't get me wrong I'm not hating on MKDA.First thangs first. How are two people that have been killed off so many times come back to life. Then the second thang they killed off one of mostly everyones favorite character,Liu Kang.Thats the boy that put Mortal Kombat on the map.I have been playing Mortal Kombat games since 1993 when it first came out.And it really makes me mad when y'all want to kill off somebody that put y'all on the map man.Y'all need to bring him and my boy back to life Johnny Cage and leave them alive. Then y'all got a movie coming out named MK3. y'all need to keeep up with time. MK3 was in 1995.MK6 bring Liu Kang back. But I really did dig MKDA.Oh,before I go y'all had good graphics except blood in circles. Not cool dude.

ED BOON DELIVERS...18046

DarksjeiK from Roosendaal, Holland says (22/Feb/2003):
  GAMEPLAY:
The game is excellent! It has the same pizzazz that the second game in the series had, only much more sophisticated, the fighting is intense and fun! The krypt with the 676 coffins to unlock adds to the longevity of the game. It's possible to search the internet for the content of each coffin, but I recommend that you find out for yourself because that way you'll have more fun playing the game...

GRAPHICS:
The textures are simply breathtaking, lighting and special effects are awesome! Don't compare this game to DOA3 because it's style is very different to that game!

LIFESPAN: 23 characters to master, 676 coffins to unlock, this one will last you for ages...

OVERALL: best bucks I've spent in a loooooong time. RESPECT to you mister Boon...

I'LL BEAT ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!17430

Jessie "Kung Lao" Morata from Chicago, IL (The CHI) USA says (14/Feb/2003):
I've been playing MK since 1991 - dumping mad cash at the arcades. I've had the absolute pleasure of seeing this great fighting game evolve to it's absolute greatest version to date. The graphics are INTENSE!!!! Beautiful, vivid color, 5.1 dolby digital sound - MY GOD! The sound of waves crashing in the Nethership stage is KRAZY! Even the fighting music ROCKS! The views of the different fighting arenas are absolutely beatiful (I love the Wu Shi Academy and Dragonfly) AND I was able to purchase 6 more arenas from the Kypt! The moves are fast, fluid, and hyper-realistic - the "Branch Combos" are unbelievable (Kung Lao can hit a 59% damage COMBO!)! Just when I thought I had a favorite fighter I became good at another then another and another after that! I explored the Konquest mode, made it through all the characters and unlocked 2 "hidden" characters Blaze & Mokap! - It was like having a brand new game! It can get frustrating when playing the HARD and DIFFICULT settings or when you rack up 7 wins in a row, the AI becomes impossible to beat. I can't say enough about this game. Every aspect about MKDA is amazing. Overall Midway did a SUPERB job w/ MKDA. Gaming life is better because we have MKDA ... The only thing missing is that you cannot go online. c'mon midway! I was looking forward to taking my show on the road & whipping butts online. I'll beat anybody even the makers at midway. Bring it! fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A game of Extremes17166

Gus from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA says (8/Feb/2003):
While playing this game there are numerous advantages to observe and numerous failures to cringe at. Why should you choose Mortal Kombat over other fighting games? I find the fighting is more intricut due to the fact that you have several different fighting styles to choose from ( 2 styles and one weapon style ) for each character. The fighting looks real and it provides hours of endless gameplay. In addition the locations of the fights are very well done and fun to fight in. About half of the character models are well done, but a few are just awfull. The blood is totally unrealistic. In this game you are immediately addicted to its complexity, but in a way its complexity is its downfall. Once all the complex elements of this game have been discovered than it has become a lame game. A lame game meaing the fighting becomes entirely boring and the same thing over and over again because a few key elements are missing in this game, the very elements that made mortal kombat previously stand out against other fighting games. These are the lack of special moves ( some characters only have 2 ) and fatalities. The special moves hardly play a role at all and the fatalities are the worst in the history of all MK games. After the first week of this game being amazing it becomes rather boring to play and looses its luster. This is a good borrower game, but don't buy it. DK was average but I look to the next game in the MK series to be dominating.

Better Next Time17077

Salomon Gutierrez from San Francisco California USA says (7/Feb/2003):
Well when i saw the comercials of MKDA I thought damn that games gotta be tight. But I guess comercials can fool you. Dont get me wrong its kool and all but it needs some help with certain details. The blood comes out in circles instead of looking realistic, and when you impale some one the blood just comes out uncontrolably it looks fake like if it was the niagra falls, they also could of used stage fatalitys and finishing moves. After a while the same moves get really boring and dull, they also could of made reptile look cooler instead of making him look like he was godzilla. They could have made the combo sistem better by making it faster and not slow like MK3. I did like the realistic fighting styles and martial arts moves used in this game. they also could have added Sektor, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Ermac, Rain, Mileena, and Jade. In conclusion they should make it better. Better luck next time.

Its too hard16852

Lucas Mosher from white,GA,USA says (29/Jan/2003):
I dont think that this was thier best game. Some of thier fatalities were just soo stupid and I know they could of done a better job on this game. But there were some highlights. For example molouck which is rockin and the blood. After awhale the fighting gets boaring and redundant. In the konquest some of those kombos are just inpossable and you have to rely on them to much. But all in all its all right. But just just all right.

This game and the extras on the CD are off the chain!!16299

Kayla Smith from Bowman, GA USA says (25/Jan/2003):
This game is definately the one game that will not be taken out of my PS2 for a while. It'll keep u into it wether u want to play or watch the making of the game, or the even a music video from Adema. The music video itself is awsome. It has some fight sequences that r off the chain. And watching how the game was made, is pretty interesting. I can't believe that that few of people made the first one, and then it takes over 50 to make this one. How great is that? I just wish I could find some awsome cheats. Neway, just to let ya'll know, this game is the freakin best!!!! GET IT....NOW!!!!!

a cool game15914

fooolapjooolginger from texas says (20/Jan/2003):
even though it think that mortal kombat is the dumest thing in the world i still liked this game, especially rain. I also liked how u could turn the blood off becuase the blodd just makes the game gay and unrealistic, as if it where made by a 12 year old and the fatalities are really unreal. though i did like the fact that you could choose different martial arts.

Almost Flawless15680

Michael Carrano from New Haven says (18/Jan/2003):
Deadly Alliance is by far the best in the Mortal Kombat series. With brutal fight sequences as fast and furious as any high-speed martial arts flick, the game only gets better with superb character rendering, ambient and enthralling environments, and a dramatic soundtrack of exotic eastern melodies.

The game, unfortunately, carries the tradition of Mortal Kombat games since MK2 of over-dramatic, ridiculous fatalities. Where something as subtle and brutal as a palm strike to the nose followed by the crushed character dropping to his knees and then face-first into the earth would have sufficed, some fatalities continue the tradition of being childish and blatant (ripping out a person's entire skeleton, for example.)

The game however more than makes up for this deficit in that the fighting of the game is crisp, fluid, fast-passed and mind-numbingly addictive. Believe me- you wont be getting any of your homework done this semester.

A characteristic adding to the game's frustration factor is the computer's virtual ability to block nearly any and evey attack that no real-life player could've averted. The frustration that comes with being able to whoop all your friends asses and then lose to a computer opponent who blocks $#< remove me > at !ing everything is enough to make you Finish your TV.

If you can get by an unrealistically difficult computer and a handful of ridiculous fatalities mixed, you're in for a wild ride in what will probably be the most intense videogame experience that has hit you.

Could have done better15253

Rob from Savage, MN, USA says (11/Jan/2003):
Overall, the game is pretty tight. Most of the fatalities were gay and repetitive and in the next one they have to put animalities, it's a MUST! Moloch is a little cheap b!tch that keeps on doing the same 2 or 3 moves. I like the Krypt it was a good idea. The test your sight is alright and I think the test your might should be tweaked a little bit. I agree with the other gamers about bosses pulling unreal moves, and moves that should have connected but somehow they were dodged. There should be more characters and a limited amount of time in each round that weapons can be used or something like that. It's cheap when the CPU or humans just use weapons unlimitedly. This goes for all games, but games should use the Xbox to it's full potential instead of getting held up by PS2. The blood could have been more realistic instead of shooting out in circles. You should be able to chose different difficulties in the arcade mode. I don't like that some characters lack combos (Drahmin). The graphics are pretty good but have room for improvement. I do like the mini games and I wish they had more. I also miss the stage fatalities.

Great game15115

Michael from Nashville, TN USA says (9/Jan/2003):
I enjoyed the graphics. As a lot of people had stated before, it would be nice to have some added fatalities. But it's not THAT important. Konquest and the Krypt are great ideas. Some of the combos in konquest are almost impossible to execute. My only wish for this game or future games is to slow the timing down between each button input by .20/sec on combo strings. Retain a buffer for the combo input, but slow down required timing on button input. After playing it for several hours, I found that it would be easy to develop carpal tunnel syndrome trying to execute some of those combos.

I was rather disappointed on reptile's change in appearance. It looked like less time was spent on rendering this character than others. Despite some of my negativity, I thought this game was a first class fighting game and is DEFINITELY worth buying.

Good, but lack of creativity and loss of some MK style14804

Togroovy from Seattle, Washington says (5/Jan/2003):
I bought this game just to give it a shot and quickly found out that it was in fact the better of the MK games. It has fairly decent graphics, but could definetly be better off as an xbox exclusive. The sound kinda sucked in general, all male characters had the same voice sounds and all the women in the game had the same voice sounds. The weapons were ok, but lacked again the creativity (they had 3 models and just re skinned them to look like new weapons). Fatalities, as its been said stunk, there was only one and they are all somewhat slow and repetetive to watch. What I hated most was the computers A.I., or lackthereof. It seemed for the harder levels like Moloch and the final characters of Konquest that they could do nothing more than to make the A.I. cheat to beat you. I spent many hours cussing at the TV because when you attack, you are usually sidestepped (at an unusually fast speed might i add) and then comboed to your death. Moloch just had nothing going for him so they made him ultra strong and ultra cheap. Dead or alive at least had human like traits in the AI even on the hardest level. Being that this was my biggest complaint I have one last thing on the topic. If you are playing MKDA on hard levels the AI is semi passive if you just stand there, but the second you block or attack, it explodes into unstoppable combos, not fun at all. Otherwise I had very little problem with it and recomend it highly to those that want a fun fighting game (if you have someone to play it with) and to those who are die hard MK fans.

This Game Rules14806

Samir from Erie says (5/Jan/2003):
This game is the best fighting game of 2002. The game itself is awsome, the game keeps you excited because of ~600 Koffins you can unlock. Now some people say it is too much or it cost too much. What would be the use of cheap stuff and couple koffins. It would be too easy and you wouldn't get the same prices. And most of them are great and funny. And then the fact that they don't have old characters, who cares they have new ones and brand knew endings with way more combos. Who cares if it is only one fatality, they are great. The fatalities make up for all the attacks and new character. The probably best new one for me would Kensi. If you have a xbox and you want to buy a new game you should look at this game and it wont dissapoint you.

What the?!?!?!?!?!14587

Bassman from USA says (3/Jan/2003):
Don't get me wrong... I loved this game, but there were some major shortcommings.

First of all... What's the deal with Reptile?? He used to be so sweet (tied as fav char), but in this they turned him into a retarted looking lizard. I will never use his crab style because he just looks so damn stupid. And his new costume looks the exact same... It would have been tight if it was his human form, but noooo...

**SPOILER**
The other thing is Scorpion's ending... My fav character died!!!! He's dead now... forever. No comming back as a spector... his entire soul was ripped to pieces.

All in all, it's a great game, but they f*cked up my 2 favorite characters, so I'm a little unhappy.

I HATE MOLOCH!14385

Ryan from Conway SC says (1/Jan/2003):
I think i speak for alot of gamers out there when i say Mortal kombat deadly alliance is the best fighting game of 2002. The new characters are great. I think they should have brought back 2 of the best characters ever in an MK game back for this one. JADE AND RAIN!!! The downsides to this game is the low fatality count and the stupid koffin system. I also hate the way moloch is always using the same punch over and over!! Besides that MK deadly alliance is great!!
