What the hell is Sega trying to pull here? |
| run out says (12/Oct/2002): |
I dont know, but there pathetic attemps to make a worthy driveing games just dont cut it. Sega GT 2002,the follow up to that rather crappy Dreamcast game, Sega GT,is just another medicore racer which trys to be up there with the big racing games, but just falls short. You need to upgrade your car in this game alot, and if you dont, you will loose, garenteed. It dosent matter how much skill you have or how many racing games you played,if you dont upgrade that car, you'll loose. I dont always feel like upgradeing a car in a game, either. But this game almost forces you to. The graphics arent all that impresive, either. Project Gotham Racing has much better graphics, and it came out a few months before this horrible mess of a game. The cars just dont look really appealing, either, dispite some of the licences. This game is just pretty damn boring. I mean even if you do upgrade your freaking car its just boring to play. It trys to be a sim and an arcade racer, but you cant just do that. You have to pick one way or the other. For these reasons alone, I feel you shouldent buy this game or rent it. Sega GT 2002 is the worst racing game on Xbox. Get Project Gotham Racing instead.

just a bit more realistic |
| GeorgeDeadman1 from El Paso, Tx Usa says (21/Nov/2002): |
I think overall Grand Turismo 3 is a better racing sim game than Sega Gt, however when it comes to the realism of the game Sega Gt takes the cake. examples of that include wear and tear on tires/suspension, muffler blowing out, and exterior damage. You can crash all you want on GT3 and your call will be unaffected

THE BEST RACING GAME OUT THERE |
| James from Somewere in the US says (26/Dec/2002): |
This game kicks major GT3 ass. the game is way more better than gt3 because it is more easyer than GT3's way of putting it. all togeather this game is the best racing sim out there

Sega GT is good, but GT3 A-Spec still rules the road |
| F1Lover from Ft. Worth, TX, USA says (31/Dec/2002): |
As an adult gamer, and one that [just a couple of years ago] was mostly into RPG's, I am astounded with today's racing/driving sims. A friend had me hooked instantly with Sony's first release of Gran Turismo, and I rushed out immediately and purchased it for myself, followed of course by GT2. Then times got hard, and I never got to purchase Sony's new platform, so I was stuck in the land of the dinosaurs, so to speak. When my friend purchased his new PS2, along with GT3, I was over there playing almost every night, as we were trying to beat the game WITHOUT cheat codes. Lemme tell ya, it was NOT easy!! We finally gave in, and loaded as little cheats as possible, once we had the game about 92% complete, and just could not get any further.
FINALLY! I just got an XBox for christmas, and it came with the Sega GT 2002. This game has a LOT of what I have always wished the Sony guys would add into their already superb racing sim. For instance, the fact that you can take photos of your car in a replay, and hang them in the garage is pretty cool, and the fact that this game/platform will support a user-created music playlist is something I would like to see in the PS2's future. I like the fact that damage occurs if you drive recklessly (although too bad it's not visible), and you have to keep your car in tune, and the tires replaced if you expect your car to perform at its peak. When I first picked up the controller, I thought the gameplay was very similar in nature to GT3, in the way that the driving physics acted, so I had relatively little challenge in the first few series of races. And those who have touted the Peugeot 206 are RIGHT!! Rage Racer/Ridge Racer/Need for Speed fans: you're in for a surprise, in the fact that you actually have to DRIVE the car, and learn how to brake, hit your apexes in the corners correctly, and how NOT to slide the car all over the place, with tires spinning. I will say this: anyone who has mastered the techinques required to be successful in the Gran Turismo saga will probably find this game a little "underwhelming", but it is still fun to play, nevertheless. And probably my biggest sell for GT3 A-Spec is......F1 cars! It doesn't get any better than that, especially when you can win the car that the legendary Ayrton Senna ran his last race in, before he was killed in it. (How's that for historic?) Has anyone found a formula car in Sega GT yet???

Great Racing Sim |
| Icer2387 from Texas, USA says (15/Aug/2003): |
This game is a great racing sim due to the fact that they included classic cars as well as modern. Also the car upgrades are great, especially when you unlock the stage 3 turbo. If only they had made some exterior upgrades like body kits or custom paint. My top three cars:
1. 779hp Corvette zo6 8.3 sec quarter mile
2. 809hp Dodge Charger R/t 8.9 sec quarter
3. 300+hp Lotus Exige 8.1 sec quarter ---best handling car in the game by far
I am on day 237 and i still have fun playin the game.

Don't see why everyone uses Grand Turismo as a standard to rate this game. |
| Xbox_Xtreme2002 from www.geocities.com/xbox_xtreme2002 says (9/Nov/2002): |
Sure This game is similar to Grand Tursimo, but thats just because it is a racing sim. I don't see why they should be compared to each other, or there would be alot of other games on that list. Well, for starters, the game has over 100 fully licensed and acurately detailed cars, this game has great graphics, with realtime reflections, smooth vehicle renders, and great effects such as smoke and such. The Interface is ok, the menu's take too long to load and sometimes drives you crazy. The game is fun but there is'nt much sense of speed, it always seems like the car is not going fast enough even though the meter says something like 120 or something. the turning takes a bit of practice and is more realistic than some games because it actually requires you to brake to turn. The car wear and tear is what keeps the game going, you make money to fix up your car which is only damaged because you were trying to make money for an upgrade. But that gets annoying after a few muffler blowouts. The rate at which the car wears down depends on how you drive the car, if you skid or make rough turns often your shocks, suspensiona and tires will wear out faster and so on. The Overall sound of this game is good, the sound effects are nice and most of them sound acurate, but the music does not always go with the game. The controls are just like any other Xbox racing game, the Triggers for the gas and brake and the usual buttons. Multiplayer is not much fun, too slow to do anything funny or stupid to eachother. To summarize everything, i gave this game a 7 because i have to give sega credit for the great graphics and the detail given to the cars, but the fun factor is not exactly at it's highest, the game gets boring relatively quickly. and the multiplayer is just bad, no fun at all. the single player is fun until you get annoyed at trying to make money to repair that car that you are making the money with. Very time consuming. But overall it's an okay game. good for any graphics savvy people out there.

If you try this u will b very pleased trust me |
| Barlow from Australia says (10/Nov/2003): |
I was orignally happy with my ford gt40 down the 1/4mile doing about mid 9's then i decided to try the ford gt concept to see how this would go down the quarter mile and got 8.78 down it and thought this is mad. I looked up a site which told you all the real neat tricks of the quarter mile and discovered that if you start of in gear six then when you hit around 4000rpm shift it down to third and shift your way up the gears and then i ended up running a 7.56 in my ford gt concept. If you dont beleive me try it yourself, you will like it trust me!!!!!!!!!!!

How can anyone say this game is Crap |
| Danny from Birmingham, England says (3/Jan/2003): |
This is a quality game, and anyone who thinks otherwise does not have a clue. I've just spent a few minutes looking through the reviews below and cannot believe some of the things I've read. Someone saying they cant get their top speed above 202kph, not being able to do the drag in less than 11seconds??? I've only been playing the game for 6hrs and ive already had the lotus Esprite (11.5 secs drag top speed 220+) Ford GT390 Concept (9.6secs drag Top speed 240+) The ford Drag time was WITHOUT close ratio gears or Boost turned up to the max and its top speed was without High speed gearbox. For people moaning about having to come to a stand still before taking corners try adding racing tires (and keeping them maintained) and setting your racing suspension to in between medium and hard. For easy money when putting a car up for sale treble the inintial price and then bring it down sequentially every 1-2 race days, ie...I bought the Ford GT390 for 150,000 didn't do anything to it and put it up for sale straight away for 249,950 after a couple of days I had sold it for 229,000, a profit of 79000, and you can do that over and over again. I also won the Merc SL and sold it for 75,000.

Mustang Glitch |
| Rigni from Los Angeles California African 3rd nation says (3/Jan/2003): |
How come the Mustang GT (the new one) is only a 4 speed manual. They are 5 spd. It seems like a major flaw that the car is so incorrect which means it does not simulate the real cars performance.

Don't dog this game, but don't expect the world of it either. |
| Rick Steele from Fairbanks, Alaska says (27/Jan/2003): |
When my wife finally caved and got me an xbox for Christmas, it came with the s controller (sweet!) and the free Sega game disc. I thought that I would give Sega Gt2002 a try since I like racing games quite a bit. So far I am enjoying it- love the souped up Dodge Charger on the quarter mile drag strip!-but there are a few complaints I have that I havent seen anyone else mention.
First, I am an avid Gran Turismo3 fan and have almost completed the game- 96.4% I went into Sega GT2002 with an open mind, hoping it would be a game along the lines of GT3. I played it for a few weeks, and liked the graphics, the customizeable soundtrack (got so utterly tired of those songs on GT3) and the racing. I went back to GT3 after a spell on some other games, and was astonished that I still found the graphics in GT3 to be superior to GT2002. I am referring mainly to the graphics of the cars themselves. Compared to GT3, I think other racing games (including GT2002) lack realism in the physics department, and most especially in the way light is reflected off of the cars' bodywork. Cars in some games are even out of proportion, or body lines might be wrong.Going back to GT2002 again after a week or so, I realized I really didn't like the cars aesthetics as much as in GT3. For an xbox game, they could have been better.
Second, where are the good cars??? What is this business with all the old funky looking Japanese wannabe muscle cars? I do not want to drive any of those cars, yet that is all you can buy with the money allotted to you in the start of the game. I was really disappointed with the initial selection of vehicles, and had to settle for a Mazda rx-7, I believe it was a 3rd generation Savanna. That was a good car for a while (best looking of all the old Japanese junkers, and fast) but theompetition soon outpaced it even when I threw all kinds of money at it. What I don't understand is, if this game was intended for the American gamer market, why did they fill their stable with so many old Japanese cars that most of us have not even heard of? I could understand a few of this sort of car, but not a majority.
Third, I have to complain about the prize money. I KNEW that I would be starting out on the low end of the prize scale and would be forced to race grocery getters for the first quarter of the game. Still, I was disappointed when I found that I had to spend all of my money upgrading my car in order to continue winning with it, which left me with little to save up for a hot car with. Of course, it was my choice to drop the $35000 I had saved on fixing up the Charger instead of buying the FairladyZ. You are not left with many options though, if you want to win.
With that said, I will continue to play the game, since it is still entertaining and challenging. I just wanted to give a more equitable view for those who are interested in how it might stack up against PS2 fare. And for the record, I was dead set against Xbox for a long time, since I rather dislike Microsoft for numerous reasons, but I have to admit it is a good product, and I will be buying many a game for it in the future. (Hopefully more tight racing games.) I am not abandoning the PS2 in favor of it, as some of my friends have, but intend on enjoying the best of both worlds. Thanks for listening, and GAME ON!!

The best xbox racing game so far. |
| Redsunknight from Oregon, USA says (16/Apr/2003): |
I really enjoyed Sega GT. It was very realistic but there was no visible damage and the loading time is awful. But I still got hooked on the game and I started playing for hours. Soon I noticed I've been playing the game for over 300 hours! Overall I think the game is great and I think people should stop thinking Grand Trismo 3 is so great and try out Sega GT 2002.
|
I love it |
| A gamer from seabrook says (19/Jun/2003): |
its a relly hard game, when you think you finished something, theres more.grand tresmo 3 sucks. there is more to sega gt than most people think.i hade this game since it came out and im not even close to finishing it.thats why i gave sega gt a perfect ten
|
It is a great game with a couple imperfections but very worth it all |
| Joel from Lawrenceburg,TN says (6/Oct/2003): |
The game is fun as hell if you don't mind spending time on the game and having
to exit every race and skip the replay. I have started three games. The first game I played
and beat it, I sold almost all of the cars that I won for extra cash. the 2nd game I tried to
get all the cars but had a hard time until I realized how to get them so I started a 3rd game
and now am getting all of the cars.
The game has a lot of cars but the majority of them ARE NOT ANY GOOD. for
example one of the cars in the cronical mode will only go 89 mph, my car in the drive
way will go faster than that and its a regular car, and there is a couple cars that have less
than 60 hp but some with alot more.
I don’t think they really need more cars like alot of other people do. and I am glad
there are not any porches or other cars like that like all the other racing games out there
I think that at some point you should be able to buy any car or at leased show
every car at the car shop so you can see it’s stats and they also should tell you how to earn
them . there are to many cars that are not in the car shop but are in the game.
They should have put alot more thought and effort in to the two player games. you
get to pick out of like five or six tracks. there are different variations of each track in the
game but in two player you get one, if there are more I don’t know how to get them. I do
like how you can use any car that is in any garage that is saved on the xbox.
The best car is the ford GT concept!!!!!! the viper is tied for worst car with the
ford GT90. the viper has no steering and the GT90 has 1200 hp maxed out but I don’t
know were the power goes, I know it doesn’t go to the tires
I did all the races with an automatic transmission even the license tests because I
use the right trigger for the gas and the buttons to change gears is backwards, the bottom
button changes the gears up and the button on the top changes the gears down, it just
doesn’t make much sense to me.
The reason I didn’t give the game 10 stars is because I have alot of CD’s on my
xbox and the game picked 4 I fought with it by moving songs on to those tracks and
rearranging them but it takes alot of time. Project gothem racing has the best way to set up the music.
The graphics are good and the sound is great. Most of the cars sound different but
the damage doesn’t show on the car I want to see dents scrapes pooped tires from were
and tare and I know most of these cars could do more than 40mph in the grass.

Mike- from Rochester,NY |
| MIKE from Rochester, NY says (27/Oct/2003): |
Sega GT is about the best game i have ever played...the only thing about it that i would've changed would be the fact that it needed more cars, and more upgrades for those cars. as far as i'm concerned GT for ps2, really didnt interest me as much as SEga GT for xbox, it got a little confusing when came to adjusting the suspension and boose pressure and traction in ps2, sega gt made it simple and easy to understand. It's pretty cool that u can turn off the tcs and scs so u can do burnouts.

This game is a legend |
| Alexius from UK says (29/Oct/2003): |
This game is one of them cool games that are released rarely any person who owns an X-box must have this game. It offers hours of enjoyment. First you purchase a cheap car, then you upgrade it to make it faster. Then when it wont go any faster you buy a new car!!! Much time has been spent on creating this game and the graphics are exellent. This game lets the gamer control just about every aspect of the cars. I think that we will have to wait along time before a game this good will be released. Enjoy

Top graphics, brilliant gameplay, laps Gt3 before it has even started |
| Andrew Barrett from Swindon says (14/Nov/2003): |
I got my xbox as a christmas present from my parents in 2002 and it came with sega gt 2002. Since I started playing the game I haven't been able to put it down. The graphics are outstanding, there is a wide variety of cars to choose from and enough races to keep you playing solid for at least five months. The license tests are quite hard but not impossible. I managed to get them all eventually, managing the SS license test by just over a second. Along with the standard cars there are a few secret cars that can only be unlocked by completing specific races. The game is incredibly large with the first season five stages long, each stage having multiple races in it, at the end of the season there is a world championship race to complete then another season of racing. Overall Sega Gt 2002 is a top notch racer that deserves praise heaped over it in bucketloads. The best racer on XBOX and any platform. Well done SEGA.
P.S If anyone tries to contact me by my E-Mail I will try and reply but there is a problem with it.

The Best Racer I've Seen Yet |
| Rich from Texas,USA says (16/Nov/2003): |
Sega GT 2002 is ridiculous in the best way. The game boasts superb graphic detail and unlimited replay value. It's a seemingly never ending game, it just keeps going and going no matter how much you complete. The only real flaw is the lack of tracks, they need more of them, as I see most agree with me. I noticed an individual spoke of having the Corvette Z06 fully tuned and saying it beats the Ford GT Concept. I beg to differ my friends..my main vehicle is the Ford GT Concept and it is fully tuned, and it beats the Z06 though I will say it's fairly close. But HP and torque wise the Concept kills the Z06. I have a good 750HP and something around 714ft-lbs of torque in mine. But anyhows the game totally rocks. It's wicked in all its entirety and I think Sony can take a hike, heh. Rock on Sega!

SUPRAS ARE NOT GOOD CARS |

Muscle cars anyone? |
| A gamer from Pennsylvania, USA says (5/Feb/2003): |
sega gt 2002 is a decent game. i have fun playing it. there are a few things that dissapoint me with it. my first complaint is that there are no porsche or pontiac cars. whats the deal with that. this upsets me because firebirds are among my top 5 favorite cars with porsche 944 (i know it is not the fastet) being number 1. Another complaint is that there are too many useless cars. seriously who starts the game saying "oh yeah i cant wait to by a puegot". Another thing i didnt like was that it is entirely too easy to get money. i started with a Levin and in about three hours i got enough money to by a Lotus elise. the game was all downhill from there. I also think that instead of having about 8 mitsubishi lancers and 8 subaru imprezas and 4 or 5 NSX's they should have put in some older model camaros and mustangs. Or how about an old hemi road runner...Once again i will add that i really would like to have seen a trans am or a gto in this game. I think there should be more options in upgrading your car. I would also like to see some exterior upgrades like body kits and wings and an option to change your paint job. i think the graphics were good but i didnt like the cars being so shiny. i wasnt really impressed by the selection of cars. oh yeah and another thing i didnt like was how there were so many rally inspired cars and there was really nothing you could do with them other then the winding road track but i beat that with my chevelle and just mashed the gas.
One last thing... the Caspita is by far the best car in the game. it destroys all of the ford gt's and any of the other muscle cars. nothing can compete with it.
