Don't dog this game, but don't expect the world of it either. | | Rick Steele from Fairbanks, Alaska says (27/Jan/2003): | When my wife finally caved and got me an xbox for Christmas, it came with the s controller (sweet!) and the free Sega game disc. I thought that I would give Sega Gt2002 a try since I like racing games quite a bit. So far I am enjoying it- love the souped up Dodge Charger on the quarter mile drag strip!-but there are a few complaints I have that I havent seen anyone else mention.
First, I am an avid Gran Turismo3 fan and have almost completed the game- 96.4% I went into Sega GT2002 with an open mind, hoping it would be a game along the lines of GT3. I played it for a few weeks, and liked the graphics, the customizeable soundtrack (got so utterly tired of those songs on GT3) and the racing. I went back to GT3 after a spell on some other games, and was astonished that I still found the graphics in GT3 to be superior to GT2002. I am referring mainly to the graphics of the cars themselves. Compared to GT3, I think other racing games (including GT2002) lack realism in the physics department, and most especially in the way light is reflected off of the cars' bodywork. Cars in some games are even out of proportion, or body lines might be wrong.Going back to GT2002 again after a week or so, I realized I really didn't like the cars aesthetics as much as in GT3. For an xbox game, they could have been better.
Second, where are the good cars??? What is this business with all the old funky looking Japanese wannabe muscle cars? I do not want to drive any of those cars, yet that is all you can buy with the money allotted to you in the start of the game. I was really disappointed with the initial selection of vehicles, and had to settle for a Mazda rx-7, I believe it was a 3rd generation Savanna. That was a good car for a while (best looking of all the old Japanese junkers, and fast) but theompetition soon outpaced it even when I threw all kinds of money at it. What I don't understand is, if this game was intended for the American gamer market, why did they fill their stable with so many old Japanese cars that most of us have not even heard of? I could understand a few of this sort of car, but not a majority.
Third, I have to complain about the prize money. I KNEW that I would be starting out on the low end of the prize scale and would be forced to race grocery getters for the first quarter of the game. Still, I was disappointed when I found that I had to spend all of my money upgrading my car in order to continue winning with it, which left me with little to save up for a hot car with. Of course, it was my choice to drop the $35000 I had saved on fixing up the Charger instead of buying the FairladyZ. You are not left with many options though, if you want to win.
With that said, I will continue to play the game, since it is still entertaining and challenging. I just wanted to give a more equitable view for those who are interested in how it might stack up against PS2 fare. And for the record, I was dead set against Xbox for a long time, since I rather dislike Microsoft for numerous reasons, but I have to admit it is a good product, and I will be buying many a game for it in the future. (Hopefully more tight racing games.) I am not abandoning the PS2 in favor of it, as some of my friends have, but intend on enjoying the best of both worlds. Thanks for listening, and GAME ON!!
| Thoughts of the Real Speed Racer... | | Jerrhyme from Atlanta, GA - USA says (4/Sep/2003): | I have read many of the posts here and well, let me say that I agree with nearly 90% (back to that in a minute).
I am a RACER - I DARE ANYONE TO DOUBT... you'll be handing your cars over to my collection. I don't play sports, maybe a little strategy, and maybe even a shoot'em-up, but I RACE (just want to assure you that I am no novice).
The game is a GREAT attempt at matching GT2/3 popularity. It has definitely more detail, the garage is a very nice touch, and the control is excellent - once you spend some dough. I have been playing the game for a couple of months and have beaten the tar out of it VERY quickly (like in less than 2 days with around 2-3 hours each time). And I have beaten it bunches of times. This is the first of my personal gripes. It was sooo easy to get up fast, but seriously, if you were any good at GT2/3 it should be easy to become used to game play. I have hundreds of thousands in cash, and more than enough cars. The thing I like is winning cars, and when you run certain races with your won cars, you can win certain other cars that are not even on the menus to SEE or purchase. This might show that the game can become somewhat boring, you never know when you will win a car if at all (I have a theory working here and will pass it on later). This brings me to my second gripe... if you sell one of the cars you have won, it seems impossible to win it again if you want it back. The last thing I kinda’ wish was different, is that once you reach the second stage you cannot go back. If I want to start with a weak ride, betta' have some greenbacks to hook it up or you don't stand a chance at winning.
So what's to like...?
Again, the graphics and sounds are too incredible. The shaking around open curves when you are floorin' it is a nice detail in the realism department. I like to take the angle photo with camera #3. I have the technique down perfectly and have limited the shots to the best cars with the best backgrounds - you can only take so many pictures anyway. Chronicle and Time Attack are nice if you are into classics and beating your own records. And, a perfect race is well rewarded with an extra 50% of the purse. Still, while starting out with hardly any money ($13,000), you can buy that Fiat Hatchback, win the Hot Hatchback race and you are sure to win the Renault Clio... most of the time. This leads to the last point, you can always race the Events to get cash and once you race enough to win without bang-ups, the rewards are substantial.
I agree with nearly everyone - the game is great but maybe lacking in a few areas. Then again, GT2/3 aren't PERFECT and SEGA has some clear advantages/differences. It really depends on your experience with racing sims, and how much you want to play. I could write dozens of other complaints or compliments. Just know that SEGA GT 2002 IS NOT SONY GT2/3 and vice versa. I would not have even picked up this game if I paid attention to "...doesn't compare to...". SEGA deserves more than that by far. Get it, drive it, and decide for yourself.
| I'm surprised such a good game came for free with my XBOX. | | A gamer from Sacramento,California says (31/Jan/2003): | This game is pretty good. There is only one downside I have located, always giving you the replay after a race. They should put in an option for yes/no replay. Other than that, this was good. I am working on the game now. I am at 206 days, $68,441, my cars are a Charger and Corvette. Corvette has 5665<<, 625 hp, and 5905 torque. Charger is (my primary)7200<<, 767 hp., and 792 torque, with all advancements in horsepower and weight reduction. I love that car. I thought the graphics were good except for the major sun reflection on the car. I also liked how when you got an advancement (such as turbines) the sound of the engine changes. I am having some serious trouble on the stage two lisence. I bet you're all laughing at that huh. Seriously, if I could use my Charger or Corvette or even (God forbid) the Abarth 131 Rally im selling for 33,500. Yeah, that really cruddy Fiat. I put turbines in it AND a bolt on turbo ( I used it for the Battle of 70's and I am sick of that car. those two alone are 15000+8000 bucks. 23 grand plus the initial 10,500 it costs totals 33,500. I won it. It's horrible. I Can't stand it. Forget Battle of 70's. Get it out of my garage. But on the License test they GIVE you a Model T. Well, not seriously, but they might as well, the car they give you is slow. I would like to get farther in the game but all it's doing is slowly, slowly, slowly, race,by race,by race driving me CRAZY. Anyway, I feel it will last me a long time. I race about 15-20 times, overhaul the engine (or whatever else needs it) and do it again. This is really my first racing game I have owned and played. I am typically into first-person shooters, and this is a good, creative game, even for people who are not normally into racing. The XBOX company really gives you a good deal for your money. This game is completely free with the XBOX. It also doesnt take much space on the hard drive. It takes 191 out of 50,000+. That's nothing. But I think replays take space if you save them. Not sure, didn't take the chance. That's pretty much it.
Also, just so you know:
Try to beat the whole first drag racing thing ASAP, if you get a C lisence, there will be more cars and theyre harder.
AND
The corvette is the best car that you can use money and buy in the car shop. It is only 49 grand so save up for that. If you would like, go back in this review and look at the stats I have for it. That car won me the Charger. I highly reccomend both of those. And don't sell the Corvette once you get the Charger. If you can't afford to overhaul the engine in the charger after racing a lot, you'll need a backup car. Corvette.
| It is a great game with a couple imperfections but very worth it all | | Joel from Lawrenceburg,TN says (6/Oct/2003): | The game is fun as hell if you don't mind spending time on the game and having
to exit every race and skip the replay. I have started three games. The first game I played
and beat it, I sold almost all of the cars that I won for extra cash. the 2nd game I tried to
get all the cars but had a hard time until I realized how to get them so I started a 3rd game
and now am getting all of the cars.
The game has a lot of cars but the majority of them ARE NOT ANY GOOD. for
example one of the cars in the cronical mode will only go 89 mph, my car in the drive
way will go faster than that and its a regular car, and there is a couple cars that have less
than 60 hp but some with alot more.
I don’t think they really need more cars like alot of other people do. and I am glad
there are not any porches or other cars like that like all the other racing games out there
I think that at some point you should be able to buy any car or at leased show
every car at the car shop so you can see it’s stats and they also should tell you how to earn
them . there are to many cars that are not in the car shop but are in the game.
They should have put alot more thought and effort in to the two player games. you
get to pick out of like five or six tracks. there are different variations of each track in the
game but in two player you get one, if there are more I don’t know how to get them. I do
like how you can use any car that is in any garage that is saved on the xbox.
The best car is the ford GT concept!!!!!! the viper is tied for worst car with the
ford GT90. the viper has no steering and the GT90 has 1200 hp maxed out but I don’t
know were the power goes, I know it doesn’t go to the tires
I did all the races with an automatic transmission even the license tests because I
use the right trigger for the gas and the buttons to change gears is backwards, the bottom
button changes the gears up and the button on the top changes the gears down, it just
doesn’t make much sense to me.
The reason I didn’t give the game 10 stars is because I have alot of CD’s on my
xbox and the game picked 4 I fought with it by moving songs on to those tracks and
rearranging them but it takes alot of time. Project gothem racing has the best way to set up the music.
The graphics are good and the sound is great. Most of the cars sound different but
the damage doesn’t show on the car I want to see dents scrapes pooped tires from were
and tare and I know most of these cars could do more than 40mph in the grass.
| Sega GT is good, but GT3 A-Spec still rules the road | | F1Lover from Ft. Worth, TX, USA says (31/Dec/2002): | As an adult gamer, and one that [just a couple of years ago] was mostly into RPG's, I am astounded with today's racing/driving sims. A friend had me hooked instantly with Sony's first release of Gran Turismo, and I rushed out immediately and purchased it for myself, followed of course by GT2. Then times got hard, and I never got to purchase Sony's new platform, so I was stuck in the land of the dinosaurs, so to speak. When my friend purchased his new PS2, along with GT3, I was over there playing almost every night, as we were trying to beat the game WITHOUT cheat codes. Lemme tell ya, it was NOT easy!! We finally gave in, and loaded as little cheats as possible, once we had the game about 92% complete, and just could not get any further.
FINALLY! I just got an XBox for christmas, and it came with the Sega GT 2002. This game has a LOT of what I have always wished the Sony guys would add into their already superb racing sim. For instance, the fact that you can take photos of your car in a replay, and hang them in the garage is pretty cool, and the fact that this game/platform will support a user-created music playlist is something I would like to see in the PS2's future. I like the fact that damage occurs if you drive recklessly (although too bad it's not visible), and you have to keep your car in tune, and the tires replaced if you expect your car to perform at its peak. When I first picked up the controller, I thought the gameplay was very similar in nature to GT3, in the way that the driving physics acted, so I had relatively little challenge in the first few series of races. And those who have touted the Peugeot 206 are RIGHT!! Rage Racer/Ridge Racer/Need for Speed fans: you're in for a surprise, in the fact that you actually have to DRIVE the car, and learn how to brake, hit your apexes in the corners correctly, and how NOT to slide the car all over the place, with tires spinning. I will say this: anyone who has mastered the techinques required to be successful in the Gran Turismo saga will probably find this game a little "underwhelming", but it is still fun to play, nevertheless. And probably my biggest sell for GT3 A-Spec is......F1 cars! It doesn't get any better than that, especially when you can win the car that the legendary Ayrton Senna ran his last race in, before he was killed in it. (How's that for historic?) Has anyone found a formula car in Sega GT yet???
| Don't see why everyone uses Grand Turismo as a standard to rate this game. | | Xbox_Xtreme2002 from www.geocities.com/xbox_xtreme2002 says (9/Nov/2002): | Sure This game is similar to Grand Tursimo, but thats just because it is a racing sim. I don't see why they should be compared to each other, or there would be alot of other games on that list. Well, for starters, the game has over 100 fully licensed and acurately detailed cars, this game has great graphics, with realtime reflections, smooth vehicle renders, and great effects such as smoke and such. The Interface is ok, the menu's take too long to load and sometimes drives you crazy. The game is fun but there is'nt much sense of speed, it always seems like the car is not going fast enough even though the meter says something like 120 or something. the turning takes a bit of practice and is more realistic than some games because it actually requires you to brake to turn. The car wear and tear is what keeps the game going, you make money to fix up your car which is only damaged because you were trying to make money for an upgrade. But that gets annoying after a few muffler blowouts. The rate at which the car wears down depends on how you drive the car, if you skid or make rough turns often your shocks, suspensiona and tires will wear out faster and so on. The Overall sound of this game is good, the sound effects are nice and most of them sound acurate, but the music does not always go with the game. The controls are just like any other Xbox racing game, the Triggers for the gas and brake and the usual buttons. Multiplayer is not much fun, too slow to do anything funny or stupid to eachother. To summarize everything, i gave this game a 7 because i have to give sega credit for the great graphics and the detail given to the cars, but the fun factor is not exactly at it's highest, the game gets boring relatively quickly. and the multiplayer is just bad, no fun at all. the single player is fun until you get annoyed at trying to make money to repair that car that you are making the money with. Very time consuming. But overall it's an okay game. good for any graphics savvy people out there.
| For "Kinky" without a clue | | F1Lover from Ft. Worth, TX says (16/Jan/2003): | Well, without going into massive detail about advanced driving techniques, and spending an hour explaining the "traction circle" formula, just keep repeating this when approaching corners: slow in, fast out. In other words, do most of your braking BEFORE you get to the turn, not after you've entered the turn and realized you're sliding off the other side of the track. Once you've got that down, try accelerating through the corner, backing off the gas when the car starts to "push", or go wide. It's also a big help to have the car upgraded with racing tires, brakes, suspension, and weight reduction (forget about all the horsepower items for now); you will see a DRAMATIC improvement over trying to boost the HP up to unrealistic levels.
And who was it that was complaining about a 600 HP Supra should run better than 11's in the 1/4 mile? Not if you can't get that HP to STICK to the pavement....all you're doing is roasting your tires, and turning on your traction control won't help, because then you're too slow off the line, and most of the time you get left behind. And something one guy briefly touched on was weight. Power to weight ratio has a LOT to do with how well you perform on the drag strip. Monster amounts of torque, and a light car, only cause the tires to go up in smoke. If you can find the right balance for each car (power to weight ratio), you'll be more successful. I have a Ford GT Concept that I've only boosted to about 550 HP (I saved the game and tried putting everything on this car, resulting in I don't remember how much HP and torque, but the car got WAY too squirrely and unpredictable, so I didn't save the data again), and I've beaten just about every other car in the game (makes you wonder if there's some commercial chest-beating going on, huh?). I'd like to see a real race between the Concept Viper and the Concept GT; that would be interesting.
| come on people | | matt munson from Helena, MT, USA says (23/Jul/2006): | I know a lot about cars, yes these cars are FAIRLY realistic, no matter how hard a computer programmer will work and try to make everything perfect, it wont be! theyre given diagrams, models, tables and pages and pages of data and blueprints on the cars... they cant model EVERY lil thing to the letter..
i've ridden in a lotus elise that did a 9 second 1/4 ET and i didnt know until then (i was 16 then) that a car coul smoke rubber for half a track...
then the owner dropped me off at his brothers...
that day i rode in 3 chargers all pushin 9 seconds with no nitrous..
2 chevelles pushin 10.5--s in full street trim!
and one lovely black and silver 68 camaro (the upgraded suspension was nice in 68 over the 67)
that did a 9.75 with i believe he said a supercharged 572 big block on straight high octane.. there was nothing uncomfortable about the camaro, all street trim, a few gauges extra, fuel pressure, A/F ratio, a new tach etc..
i been tryin to work on getting my own car to do that too... i dont play favorites usually with cars, i have my favorites yes i do... Rx-7s, Camaros (1st gen), Chevelles (1st 2 gens), Novas, late 60s, Mustangs... and of course a few 'super cars' tho the RX-7 should be in that line up, the 94 topped at 185MPH with a original price tage in the mid to high 20Ks
IN ANY CASE... i love Sega GT2002 its fun, i just found a copy the other day, i been playing for 2 hours and already had the elise to about 160 on the track used for the first license test (not for the test of course... i wish tho) and i scored 16bucks off perfect... i love the slight annoyance of tires and parts, just like you would if it was in person..
you all put way too much focus on the LITTLE things that would drive you nuts...
| Muscle cars anyone? | | A gamer from Pennsylvania, USA says (5/Feb/2003): | sega gt 2002 is a decent game. i have fun playing it. there are a few things that dissapoint me with it. my first complaint is that there are no porsche or pontiac cars. whats the deal with that. this upsets me because firebirds are among my top 5 favorite cars with porsche 944 (i know it is not the fastet) being number 1. Another complaint is that there are too many useless cars. seriously who starts the game saying "oh yeah i cant wait to by a puegot". Another thing i didnt like was that it is entirely too easy to get money. i started with a Levin and in about three hours i got enough money to by a Lotus elise. the game was all downhill from there. I also think that instead of having about 8 mitsubishi lancers and 8 subaru imprezas and 4 or 5 NSX's they should have put in some older model camaros and mustangs. Or how about an old hemi road runner...Once again i will add that i really would like to have seen a trans am or a gto in this game. I think there should be more options in upgrading your car. I would also like to see some exterior upgrades like body kits and wings and an option to change your paint job. i think the graphics were good but i didnt like the cars being so shiny. i wasnt really impressed by the selection of cars. oh yeah and another thing i didnt like was how there were so many rally inspired cars and there was really nothing you could do with them other then the winding road track but i beat that with my chevelle and just mashed the gas.
One last thing... the Caspita is by far the best car in the game. it destroys all of the ford gt's and any of the other muscle cars. nothing can compete with it.
| An OK game :) | | NEED-4-SPEED from Laguna Niguel,CA,USA says (4/Oct/2003): | I got an kbox for Hannucah, and, as some people, got a demo disk w/ JSRF & Sega Gt 2002.I'm not really into sports but I love racing games! Sega Gt 02 is deffinantly a challenging game.I've started new games about 7 times and i still havent beaten the game! Now, dont get me rong, i am the king of racing games in my neighborhood, and am the proud owner of about 9 racing games, bu i just cant figure this game out! No matter how much i try, i always run out of cars to use.(New cars dont help!).My current game, i am the farthest ive ever gotten so far(Season 1/challenge 4).
The graphics in this game r great but the damage factor is stupid! Sure u get a meter, but ud think if u ran into a brick wall going 155 mph, ur car would at least slow down.I like the seletion of cars because alot of cars u cant race ion other games such as Fiat or Renault. But wut really anoys me abouthis game is that,if ur like me and ur really struggling, its hard to unlock new cars. The money concepts and ideas in this game i both like and dislike.i like it because it teachs u responsibility and not to throw away ur money.i dislike it because some of the car prices in this game r cheap, and im not just saying that! ive been on the internet, and a Lotus Elise Exige doent really cost $55,000 it feally costs $48,550.And,also,a 66 Jaguar E-type really only did cost $32,850.But this game is also very fun, especially for people who enjoy using strategy. But if they were making a 2.0 version of this game, and i could tell them 1 thing id say. Add more cars!Like Ferraris and Porsches and Lambos(Lamborghinis). and add more cars period! :) :(
| It's a photo finish between the two best racing sims out there..... | | "Bob" from Indiana, USA says (7/Nov/2002): | The gran turismo series has been by far the best racing game ever made. i think that it still holds that title. sure the graphics in sega gt are realistic and driving is too, but gran turismo goes that extra inch for more realism. for me, whenever a racing game comes out on the market, i for one always compars it to gran turismo and not sega gt 2002. it's nice that if you want to sell your car, you can put your own price on it and see where it goes, but i would still like have a better variety of cars to be able to sell. what i'm saying is if both games came out with a new one on the same day and same price and you could only buy one, i bet all of you that own a ps2 and and xbox, you would all buy gran turismo 4 or what ever it may be called by that time over sega gt 2003etc. there could be a better mix of tracks and cars in gt 2002. example: ford only has 1 freakin car. i know that ford doesn't exactly have the best racing cars but come on. and by the way, could any racing sim game have freakin PONTIAC. i mean, the firebird, trans-am, grand am and grand prix can be a great competitor to the mustang, camaro, and jap crap that other games have. overall, i would buy both games just because x box needs a racing sim game badly but i believe that gran turismo still has the realistic racing series trophy won. sega gt 2002 is one of those games that you would gladly pay 29.99 for but would never want to fork out the 49.99 to get something that could've been so much better if the makers wanted it to be a real competitor.
| Sorry Ashley | | Chris from Maryland says (29/Dec/2002): | I dont know what you think you know about cars but your numbers are a little off....
"Some of you have no clue about cars and HP....a supra can make 750 HP and run 12 secs in the quarter, and a Camaro can make 300 HP and run 12 secs in the quarter...reason being...the camaro has 8 cylinders and the supra has 4 and twin turbos...so wouldnt you think 4 would have to work twice as hard? Of course, ive been doing this all my life....so its accurate....a good game...fun to play.....do some research before you bash something...just makes you look stupid :)"
ok where do i start... well first off the supra does not have 4 cylinders... all supras naturally aspirated or twin turbo have an inline 6 cylinder engine. A stock camaro with 300 hp is gonna be lucky to run 14-15 secs on street tires... and a supra with 750 hp with a good driver should easily run 10-11 sec runs and with drag radials possibly 9 secs...the only thing that a camaro has got goin for it is the fact that it weighs about 400 lbs less than a supra (stock). I'm not sure about the kind of camaro that you are talkin bout but regardless nothing short of a miracle of god is gonna make a stock camaro with 300 hp in a 3000lb car run 12 secs 1/4 times.. sorry babe if your gonna try to act like you know what your talkin bout at least use correct numbers and times. My numbers may not be the most accurate on the camaro...seeing that I'm a Supra enthusiast and I dont like domestics but If your gonna talk smack about my car then get the numbers on it right first.
| Idiots who dont know racing games... | | Matt from Denver says (8/May/2003): | I dont know, but there pathetic attemps to make a worthy driveing games just dont cut it. Sega GT 2002,the follow up to that rather rubbish Dreamcast game, Sega GT,is just another medicore racer which trys to be up there with the big racing games, but just falls short. You need to upgrade your car in this game alot, and if you dont, you will loose, garenteed. It dosent matter how much skill you have or how many racing games you played,if you dont upgrade that car, you'll loose. I dont always feel like upgradeing a car in a game, either. But this game almost forces you to. The graphics arent all that impresive, either. Project Gotham Racing has much better graphics, and it came out a few months before this horrible mess of a game. The cars just dont look really appealing, either, dispite some of the licences. This game is just pretty damn boring. I mean even if you do upgrade your freaking car its just boring to play. It trys to be a sim and an arcade racer, but you cant just do that. You have to pick one way or the other. For these reasons alone, I feel you shouldent buy this game or rent it. Sega GT 2002 is the worst racing game on Xbox. Get Project Gotham Racing instead.
This is the most realistic racing game there is. You have to tune your car up because thats what happens in real life, dip$#< remove me > at !. You obviously dont know a good racing game when you see one. If you dont like it, FINE, but dont go 'round tellin everybody who actually likes the game that it was naff
| Great game but noting to do when u finished it | | sam clough from Lennox Head, Australia, the best surfin spot in the world says (27/Apr/2003): | i recently finished sega gt 2002 for my 2nd time, i thought it's a brillant game BUT there is nothing else to do except break my 8.2 second record on the drag with my Z20. heres what i thought about the game
PROS
Awesome graphics the best racing game ive played on PC PS2 N64 and XBOX, i think that there is no mip mapping like on some of the PS1 and PS2 games.
The cars are actually real cars, and the properties are actually life like, that really impressed me espessially the difference handling between the Caspita, and the Stingray. the game has a long life span (i've practually being playing this every day since chrismas), which is very important. the fun factor i rate is about 8.5-9 it's just a damn good game
Cons
this isnt sorta of a con but after you beat the game you cant do anything else, except drag someesle in with you and kick thewm in multiplayer.
You can only go get all the cars or get all the parts not both (so you do two different games). the multiplayer tracks are two hard to open (ive got all the norms, and also FW2 and the ring stage), plaese reply back to me on the address below or above where ever they put it. It's basically a copy of grand tourismo 1, 2, 3, 4. that's about all the cons.
but this game is a brillant game, i give it 8.5/10 and try and beat my time of 8.237 seconds on the drag with the corvette Z20
and another piece of advice, the gt concept is not required to finish the game, i used the Z20 and the NSX Type R 02.
| good game | | kris from rd says (3/Jan/2003): | This is an awesome game the physics are life like and each car handles diffrently. the only thing i dislike about this game is the choice of cars sucks and when you put too much horsepower into a car it just makes it go slower and the NOS doesnt even work like it should. a toyota supra twin turbo with 600 horsepower can go a hell of alot faster than 160mph. this game would also be better if it had more tracks theres only like 5 diffrent tracks in the entire game there just done backwards or a little part is taken out. also why the hell is the charger so slow i maxed it out with everything and its sucks ass in real life it would probably go twice as fast and another thing i noticed is the transmissions are all messed up the toyota supra i a 6 speed not a 5 and the mitsubishi lancer evo is a 6 not a 5. another thing that would make this game better would be noticable damage not a little meter that sias how much damage its stupid a real car would have engine problems and stuff the only thing i had wrong is a turbo broke and it didnt even make my car slower. and for those of you that think getting the licences are hard you suck at this game i beat the whole game first day i got it i came first in every race first try and got all licences firt try. but overall this game has awsome physic detail and its gameplay is good. anyone who wants to play the best racing game thats exactly like a real car buy colin mcrae rally 1 or 2 i say its the best racing game yet.
| No contention for GT3 | | Gixxer750 from orlando, fl, USA says (10/Jan/2003): | Makes ya wonder were the designers even aware they had to make a formidable statement against probably them most perfect driving simulator game ever made? uh... ya know GT3! Or were the stockholders making all the decisions? I've been reading all these highly rated reviews here so I decided to give sega gt a try, despite my gut feeling that there is no way sega could have topped what playstation put so much R&D into. Let's talk about some of the dissapointments. Ok so they added car damage and wear and tear features. Not bad thats the only thing sony left out. But that all they did. They forgot to put in an indicator for the actual life left in the component in question. Basically you can overhaul the engine, suspension, and brakes, but when do you do it?? Supposedly you could be overhauling things when they don't even need it, wasting your money. And the money is another beef of mine. You don't win very much of it, and when you have just enough to barely get what you need, all of a sudden the competition gets too good for you. So there's no chance to win any more money. Now the cars, you think that here's where they would have put in the effort, but nah the hell with that we'll just pay for more advertising, there's enough people out there to sucker, let's just go that route. There's just too much negative to talk about here. I think I said enough, Sega doesn't deserve another chance, and they won't get one from me.
| Are you kidding me? | | Horsepower83 from Dallas, TX, USA says (20/May/2004): | First of all, the review that stated Sega GT 2002 runs laps around Gran Turismo 3 (i.e. Gt3 as stated in the review) is plain heinous. There is NO way that SGT2002 is better than GT3. First of all, the depth of GT3 is further than that of sega gt. gran turismo has license tests, car test, full-tuning ability down to the gear ratios, full-tuning lineup of parts and upgrades, over 200 more cars, better car physics, an abundance of tracks for both street and rally racing, different genres of racing (i.e. Touring cars, Formula racing, Grand Touring, American, Japanese, European)...i mean, the list goes on and on. Sega GT only embodies a partial amount of Gran Turismo and, even then, the things is does have in common aren't near the quality of Gran Turismo (i.e. compare the tracks of the two games or even the "touring" cars...yea, crap!). The game is only good for "practicing" before upgrading to a game like gran turismo. GT3 and soon, GT concepts and GT4, is the best racer of all time, hands down...anybody who disagrees can write me back on my email. The thing said my review must be more than 200 words so i'll add one more thing. Sega GT is too easy to beat. Once you've unlocked everything, you're pretty much done. I'm STILL working on Gran Turismo 3 and i've had the game for close to a year. It's much more detailed in aspect and a lot funner. I get bored of games that i finish with ease and Sega GT is one of them.
| Supra Twin Turbo Rocks | | A gamer from michigan,USA says (2/Jan/2003): | I just got xbox for christmas and this game of course came free with it. I LOVE this game because naturally I am good at it. I started off with a Toyota Celica 1600gt and started getting money to the point of where I bought a turbo then intercoller and bigger turbine. After that I turned boost to full and hit the drags where I beat the Camaro z28 without Nitrous.I won the rally car, and the charger. I saw that the charger had TOOOO much power to be good in a race and sold it for 30,000 along with teh rally car for 17,000. I had done a few more races and got the b license so decided to buy a new car with 76,000. I bout the supra twin turbo and loaded this baby up to 491 hp and its still 1400 lbs. but I am killing everyone in the drags with low 11's. I won the chevelle and let me tell you it is a $#< remove me > at !ty ass car. I sold it and bout weight reduction. I think that I am stuck with my supra now because IMHO it has too much power for its own good. I guess a racing suspension will help fix the prob. but till then ill juts have to drag. I think the only thing wrong with the game is that you cant pick a lot of cars in the quick battle and where the hell is the ford focus when u want one. Same with the 3000gt or the dodge stealth. I alos dont like the very limited number of tracks. All-in-all for a free game tis great. If you guys are into the racing scene go to kazaa and search for the Mischief 3000[gumball rally]1 and 2
| I hated it at first. | | Keja from Magna, Ut USA, says (18/Feb/2003): | when i first played the game i hated it because it seemed to hard (this is the first game i'd ever played on our xbox was still getting used to the controller, i am used to playstaion controllers)I didn't like the damage and wearing out of parts like my used sport intake/exhaust broke (on my like 8th race after purchasing) in the beginning of the race and it was leaving a huge white trail of smoke behind my car for the rest of the race the damage would take away all the money i earned at first, till i got better at the controls and my torota celica gt 1600 was so damn slow at first i quite playing it a couple times after like 15 minutes of playing because i was so frustrated with my slow car but now have like 7 and a half hours of play and i own a fuly modified toyota celica gt 1600 i dont know the horsepower of the top of my head (I am at school in the library, waiting for school to get out so i can go home and play this game) "working" lol : ) and i have a fully modified honda integra type r (rsx) 2001-2002 not sure which, a stock charger a stock older camaro a something 20 valve V6 something i haven't even drove yet haven't decided whether to sell it or not and a Nissan Skyline Gtr Vspec II with a stage 2 intercooler stage 2 turbo weight reduction stage 3 intake exhuast sport tires and a couple other things i cant think of right now crap bell rang got to go.
| Gran Turismo for the XBox!!! | | filo boy from Sydney, Australia says (20/Oct/2003): | I own a ps2 and an Xbox and when it comes to racing games people think that gran turismo is unbeatable but to me i will go the other way and stick with Sega GT and the reason i am sticking with it is because for a few good reasons......
first off, i like the looks of the sega gt and the excellent physics of it way better than gran turismo 3 and the idea of you having your own garage and the option of you designing it with goods you can but at the used parts shop.
Sure gran turismo has more cars than sega gt but then when i start playing it i tend to think that its not a race at all....
it does not feel like as if i am racing in real life coz in my opinion these is because of the horrible A.I of the game.....
for example just when i am doing the perfect corner the A.I of the other cars bumps me fro, behind and these causes me to hit the wall......i mean like come on.....if it was the real driving simulator they wouldnt do that .....but luckily Sega Gt didnt follow this attempt instead they make it feel like you have to think when overtaking, take more care for your car thanks to the damage meter, and intentionally the computer thinks just like the same way you do....they only overtake you when they see an opening and not bump your car and make you fly around the course....anywayz for these reasons i will support SEGA........
