vroom!33637

Patrick Russell says (18/Oct/2003):
I have a horribe past with racing games. At about six years old I just gave them up. But when my brother bought an X-box the first game we had was that demo disc with sega GT 2002 and Jet set Radio Future on it. Needless to say JSRF was fun for about five minutes but I never ended up playing sega GT. well about a year later I am bored with nothing to do and I dig out this relic of a game. Sega GT 2002. Immediatly I think it's gonna suck but I play it for a while anyway.
I was intertained for 26 hours of no sleep, non stop video game action from that game. (my priorities are in order) I rested and stayed up another 24 hours. It was unbelievable how much fun it was. screw football, here's MY new hobby!

Thoughts of the Real Speed Racer...31579

Jerrhyme from Atlanta, GA - USA says (4/Sep/2003):
I have read many of the posts here and well, let me say that I agree with nearly 90% (back to that in a minute).
I am a RACER - I DARE ANYONE TO DOUBT... you'll be handing your cars over to my collection. I don't play sports, maybe a little strategy, and maybe even a shoot'em-up, but I RACE (just want to assure you that I am no novice).
The game is a GREAT attempt at matching GT2/3 popularity. It has definitely more detail, the garage is a very nice touch, and the control is excellent - once you spend some dough. I have been playing the game for a couple of months and have beaten the tar out of it VERY quickly (like in less than 2 days with around 2-3 hours each time). And I have beaten it bunches of times. This is the first of my personal gripes. It was sooo easy to get up fast, but seriously, if you were any good at GT2/3 it should be easy to become used to game play. I have hundreds of thousands in cash, and more than enough cars. The thing I like is winning cars, and when you run certain races with your won cars, you can win certain other cars that are not even on the menus to SEE or purchase. This might show that the game can become somewhat boring, you never know when you will win a car if at all (I have a theory working here and will pass it on later). This brings me to my second gripe... if you sell one of the cars you have won, it seems impossible to win it again if you want it back. The last thing I kinda’ wish was different, is that once you reach the second stage you cannot go back. If I want to start with a weak ride, betta' have some greenbacks to hook it up or you don't stand a chance at winning.
So what's to like...?
Again, the graphics and sounds are too incredible. The shaking around open curves when you are floorin' it is a nice detail in the realism department. I like to take the angle photo with camera #3. I have the technique down perfectly and have limited the shots to the best cars with the best backgrounds - you can only take so many pictures anyway. Chronicle and Time Attack are nice if you are into classics and beating your own records. And, a perfect race is well rewarded with an extra 50% of the purse. Still, while starting out with hardly any money ($13,000), you can buy that Fiat Hatchback, win the Hot Hatchback race and you are sure to win the Renault Clio... most of the time. This leads to the last point, you can always race the Events to get cash and once you race enough to win without bang-ups, the rewards are substantial.
I agree with nearly everyone - the game is great but maybe lacking in a few areas. Then again, GT2/3 aren't PERFECT and SEGA has some clear advantages/differences. It really depends on your experience with racing sims, and how much you want to play. I could write dozens of other complaints or compliments. Just know that SEGA GT 2002 IS NOT SONY GT2/3 and vice versa. I would not have even picked up this game if I paid attention to "...doesn't compare to...". SEGA deserves more than that by far. Get it, drive it, and decide for yourself.

Gran Turismo for the XBox!!!33742

filo boy from Sydney, Australia says (20/Oct/2003):
I own a ps2 and an Xbox and when it comes to racing games people think that gran turismo is unbeatable but to me i will go the other way and stick with Sega GT and the reason i am sticking with it is because for a few good reasons......
first off, i like the looks of the sega gt and the excellent physics of it way better than gran turismo 3 and the idea of you having your own garage and the option of you designing it with goods you can but at the used parts shop.

Sure gran turismo has more cars than sega gt but then when i start playing it i tend to think that its not a race at all....
it does not feel like as if i am racing in real life coz in my opinion these is because of the horrible A.I of the game.....
for example just when i am doing the perfect corner the A.I of the other cars bumps me fro, behind and these causes me to hit the wall......i mean like come on.....if it was the real driving simulator they wouldnt do that .....but luckily Sega Gt didnt follow this attempt instead they make it feel like you have to think when overtaking, take more care for your car thanks to the damage meter, and intentionally the computer thinks just like the same way you do....they only overtake you when they see an opening and not bump your car and make you fly around the course....anywayz for these reasons i will support SEGA........

Are you kidding me?40952

Horsepower83 from Dallas, TX, USA says (20/May/2004):
First of all, the review that stated Sega GT 2002 runs laps around Gran Turismo 3 (i.e. Gt3 as stated in the review) is plain heinous. There is NO way that SGT2002 is better than GT3. First of all, the depth of GT3 is further than that of sega gt. gran turismo has license tests, car test, full-tuning ability down to the gear ratios, full-tuning lineup of parts and upgrades, over 200 more cars, better car physics, an abundance of tracks for both street and rally racing, different genres of racing (i.e. Touring cars, Formula racing, Grand Touring, American, Japanese, European)...i mean, the list goes on and on. Sega GT only embodies a partial amount of Gran Turismo and, even then, the things is does have in common aren't near the quality of Gran Turismo (i.e. compare the tracks of the two games or even the "touring" cars...yea, crap!). The game is only good for "practicing" before upgrading to a game like gran turismo. GT3 and soon, GT concepts and GT4, is the best racer of all time, hands down...anybody who disagrees can write me back on my email. The thing said my review must be more than 200 words so i'll add one more thing. Sega GT is too easy to beat. Once you've unlocked everything, you're pretty much done. I'm STILL working on Gran Turismo 3 and i've had the game for close to a year. It's much more detailed in aspect and a lot funner. I get bored of games that i finish with ease and Sega GT is one of them.

One of the best Ive ever played!!9909

A gamer says (28/Sep/2002):
This game is awesome at first. It gets you right into all of the action in almost no time at all. Loading time is ok, although it loads too often. The carreer mode is awesome, but is kind of hard to finish, the competition gets fiercer every race. The best is to always have a bad car in your garage, like a Toyota Supra, but have it suped up for the drag races, jap cars are THE best for those. It takes forever to do most of the things, but eventually, youll get it done. The graphics are awesome. I could tell the difference between the cars in their pics before the race even starts. The engine sounds are almost perfect, i could even hear the clutch when i was driving! and the replay value is ok, though, you cant use much cars in multiplayer. this is definately one of the better classes of racing games.

Better than Grand Tourmisral By Far10513

Danny nolan from Burlinton Wa, USA says (21/Oct/2002):
Even though its around the same idea as the ps2 game. I think the graphics are much better and the game play is better, but I think it falls short of the car choices in amount of cars and in the car selection. like who wants to put a old celica with 113hp and put that up against a nissan skyline that has 153 hp i think that they should given alot more cars and free roaming courses and hopefully project Gothem Racing 2 can live up to that.

Gran Turismo VS Sega GT 200211624

A gamer from SC, CA says (22/Nov/2002):
Sega has failed agian in their attempts to follow up their horrible first on Dreamcast. Gran Turismo is by far THE BEST racing game ever imagined. I hope Sega never tries to come up with another racing game as long as I live. For all of you that think the game is called "Grand Turismo" you're wrong. There is no D in the title. Learn to read.

above average game11782

darkninja from Prescott Valley, AZ, USA says (25/Nov/2002):
I like that they have most of the rotary engine vehicles. The fact that they have rendered them so accurately performance wise and looks, impressed me. Other than that, it's an average game.

Sega GT 200211860

Steven Rhodes from Hampstead, NC says (26/Nov/2002):
I got this game only because it came with the XBOX bundle (it and JSRF) and I've been playing it ever since. Pretty difficult with Excellent graphics and much more realism then GTA games. Only problems I see are long loading times and no visual damage to car. Other then that, excellent.

What about some education?11953

Guilio from Melbourne, Australia says (28/Nov/2002):
I only have one comment, and it is not related to the game. I noticed while reading your reviews, its full of people who dont know how to write. I'm not talking about spelling errors, they can be expected. But for christ sake, there instead of their? It becomes evident that the "Gran" part of you are passing a little to much time playing and not enough time reading or somthing. GT2002 was pretty good, GT3 is better.

The best racing simulation on X Box by far!11955

Marcus from Mesquite, Texas USA says (28/Nov/2002):
When I first played Sega GT 2002, It took me a few minutes to get the turning down. After I got that accomplished, I have been playing Sega GT mode ever since! I dislike no visible damage to the cars, but without a doubt, this is THE racing simulator for X Box!

Sega GT 200212097

Rocket X from Forest, MS, USA says (30/Nov/2002):
This game is awesome. The graphics are so great, you practically drool looking at the cars. Some of you noodle-$#< remove me > at !es may say, "Oh, but Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is sooo fun." Well, what makes this game far more supior to all the other loser racing games is the dash of role playing that Sega through in there. It makes you have to strive to become the best racer, not drive around like some circus clown on acid.

Pretty Good..12242

"Jahovah"Juice Steve from Paris says (2/Dec/2002):
Stop wining about spelling! For being free with the system it's pretty fun. If you like Gran Tourismo, but have an xbox, get this game for sure. I don't like dealing with the GAY "KUDOS" in Gotham. I like the fact that I can take stock cars and spend money on them as I go. Not test myself day in and day out to get different cars. I'll get there when I have the power.

Move Over Grand Turismo12291

Chris Harley from Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. says (3/Dec/2002):
This game is the best race game I've played since the Need 4 Speeds. The graphics are smooth, more relistic looking cars, harder license tests better tracks more races. Sega GT 2002 is X-BOX's answer to Grand Turismo ever since I bought this game when I play it, I just can't settle for second place. I have a killer civic that beats almost every car. Grand Turismo MOVE OVER.

it's ok12318

Chad from Ankeny says (4/Dec/2002):
I thought GT 2002 was to easy I had the entire game completed and beat in about 8 hours total. All the load time is a pain in the ass imo, but graphics were good as was realizim. All I did was save my money, bought the Ford GT concept, modified the crap out of it and won every race on the first try! I would have liked it to be a little harder.

excellent for 999 days12409

A gamer from tulsa says (5/Dec/2002):
Great game. When did we start reviewing the reviews? Gran Turismo is grand turismo If you play it and don't spell it. There seems to be a 999 day glitch that allows no more track rotations or advancing of days. Unless my copy is bad, It would probably be best to stop saving as the day approaches. Great game for 999 days

josh from north carolina says (9/Dec/2002):
sega gt 2002 is so much better than gran turismo, the game gets you the gamer into the game itself. there are just better options and more things you can do, i love the fact that they have old muscle cars on the game.

Brolly from Lakville, Mn, USA says (9/Dec/2002):
Its a great game and all but it fails in coprasion to others if it only add better game play and a few more cars it be alot better the upgradable part was a nice touch and if they added A few more courses wouldn't hurt any.

so many sega haters here got to hell12705

sony sux from Redding CA says (10/Dec/2002):
All you do is compare it to Sonys gran turismo because you hate Sega. Sega GT 2002 is just as good as Sega GT on Dreamcast but more detailed graphics of course. If you do not like a challenging role playing style racing game then go back to your little gaystations ok and play that boring easy game gran turismo.

sega gt beats gran turismo12754

justin from lousisiana says (11/Dec/2002):
this game is great it has all modifications you need graphics and racing style and who ever was complaning about the speed has a problem its loading time is a minumum compared to most games and from what i remember gt3 didnt load as fast as segagt .the cars look like they go the same speed as if you where watching it on t.v. its not the segas falt yall are stuck on high paced games like need for speed the game was made for realism not stupid crap . the only problem with this game is the lack of cars witch is made up with the use of quality cars not quantity.
sega has made many high performance games than you give them credit for .i dont see any one in here makin a big budget game that everyone want so why are you complaing about a game they dont force you too buy.
