where is the damage?

cap from Northen Irland says (7/Feb/2003):
i think gt 2002 is cool and good to play. But i do not think there is anuff damage in it and that when you crash the car is not wreck at all.If they bring out another saga gt i hope that you can do more things and there will be more reckage in it so that your car looks wreck. And another thing ,i thought that you would be able to make your own car and stuff like that and get more parts for your car

Ford GT Concept

Karl from dublin., Ireland says (5/Feb/2003):
You can buy this car quite early on in the game. It is expensive and you will probably have to sell a car to buy it. $150.000 i think. But it is worth it. It is definetly the fastest car in the game. mine is up to about 820hp and goes like hell i have fineshed the game with this car and I have got all of the upgrades (lightweight, turbosa, tyres the whole shootin match. Forgat the charger I have it and it does not compare. The closes I have got is the Ford GT40 whic i have jammed up 1012hp - sounds great but its just too damn heavy - as soon as you come to a corner you have to almost stop just to get around it. I think that the next best car is the Caterham R500R jam this sucker up and watch it go - it weighs almost nothing and and it has fantastic accelleration but not a ghood top speed

Muscle cars anyone?16911

A gamer from Pennsylvania, USA says (5/Feb/2003):
sega gt 2002 is a decent game. i have fun playing it. there are a few things that dissapoint me with it. my first complaint is that there are no porsche or pontiac cars. whats the deal with that. this upsets me because firebirds are among my top 5 favorite cars with porsche 944 (i know it is not the fastet) being number 1. Another complaint is that there are too many useless cars. seriously who starts the game saying "oh yeah i cant wait to by a puegot". Another thing i didnt like was that it is entirely too easy to get money. i started with a Levin and in about three hours i got enough money to by a Lotus elise. the game was all downhill from there. I also think that instead of having about 8 mitsubishi lancers and 8 subaru imprezas and 4 or 5 NSX's they should have put in some older model camaros and mustangs. Or how about an old hemi road runner...Once again i will add that i really would like to have seen a trans am or a gto in this game. I think there should be more options in upgrading your car. I would also like to see some exterior upgrades like body kits and wings and an option to change your paint job. i think the graphics were good but i didnt like the cars being so shiny. i wasnt really impressed by the selection of cars. oh yeah and another thing i didnt like was how there were so many rally inspired cars and there was really nothing you could do with them other then the winding road track but i beat that with my chevelle and just mashed the gas.
One last thing... the Caspita is by far the best car in the game. it destroys all of the ford gt's and any of the other muscle cars. nothing can compete with it.

I'm surprised such a good game came for free with my XBOX.16704

A gamer from Sacramento,California says (31/Jan/2003):
This game is pretty good. There is only one downside I have located, always giving you the replay after a race. They should put in an option for yes/no replay. Other than that, this was good. I am working on the game now. I am at 206 days, $68,441, my cars are a Charger and Corvette. Corvette has 5665<<, 625 hp, and 5905 torque. Charger is (my primary)7200<<, 767 hp., and 792 torque, with all advancements in horsepower and weight reduction. I love that car. I thought the graphics were good except for the major sun reflection on the car. I also liked how when you got an advancement (such as turbines) the sound of the engine changes. I am having some serious trouble on the stage two lisence. I bet you're all laughing at that huh. Seriously, if I could use my Charger or Corvette or even (God forbid) the Abarth 131 Rally im selling for 33,500. Yeah, that really cruddy Fiat. I put turbines in it AND a bolt on turbo ( I used it for the Battle of 70's and I am sick of that car. those two alone are 15000+8000 bucks. 23 grand plus the initial 10,500 it costs totals 33,500. I won it. It's horrible. I Can't stand it. Forget Battle of 70's. Get it out of my garage. But on the License test they GIVE you a Model T. Well, not seriously, but they might as well, the car they give you is slow. I would like to get farther in the game but all it's doing is slowly, slowly, slowly, race,by race,by race driving me CRAZY. Anyway, I feel it will last me a long time. I race about 15-20 times, overhaul the engine (or whatever else needs it) and do it again. This is really my first racing game I have owned and played. I am typically into first-person shooters, and this is a good, creative game, even for people who are not normally into racing. The XBOX company really gives you a good deal for your money. This game is completely free with the XBOX. It also doesnt take much space on the hard drive. It takes 191 out of 50,000+. That's nothing. But I think replays take space if you save them. Not sure, didn't take the chance. That's pretty much it.

Also, just so you know:

Try to beat the whole first drag racing thing ASAP, if you get a C lisence, there will be more cars and theyre harder.
AND
The corvette is the best car that you can use money and buy in the car shop. It is only 49 grand so save up for that. If you would like, go back in this review and look at the stats I have for it. That car won me the Charger. I highly reccomend both of those. And don't sell the Corvette once you get the Charger. If you can't afford to overhaul the engine in the charger after racing a lot, you'll need a backup car. Corvette.

best game ever16508

A gamer from florida says (28/Jan/2003):
i think that the game is prety cool. I have a nissan z and im taren up the game is pretty cool dont get me wrong but the light reflections and the cars not showing the damage they are taking . c'mon now everyone likes damage . I gonna kill everything as soon as i get a ford concept with some nitrious . The game's difficulty should be a little harder but i guess its fine but if you have to hold gt3 and sega gt202 gt3 is alot better but hopefully sega comes out with a new make like sega gt 2003 that would be preety good you guys asked for a opinion so there you go thats my opinion

A Quality Racing Game16546

Rob from Salt Lake City Utah says (28/Jan/2003):
A Good Game, I've spent alot of time playing it and have found it to be very competitive to GT3. The only thing that bothers me is I havent found a way to turn off the Stupid Replay, It was cool the 1st 100 times, now its really annoying, but besides that, Its a definate must have for any racing fan

Don't dog this game, but don't expect the world of it either.16424

Rick Steele from Fairbanks, Alaska says (27/Jan/2003):
When my wife finally caved and got me an xbox for Christmas, it came with the s controller (sweet!) and the free Sega game disc. I thought that I would give Sega Gt2002 a try since I like racing games quite a bit. So far I am enjoying it- love the souped up Dodge Charger on the quarter mile drag strip!-but there are a few complaints I have that I havent seen anyone else mention.
First, I am an avid Gran Turismo3 fan and have almost completed the game- 96.4% I went into Sega GT2002 with an open mind, hoping it would be a game along the lines of GT3. I played it for a few weeks, and liked the graphics, the customizeable soundtrack (got so utterly tired of those songs on GT3) and the racing. I went back to GT3 after a spell on some other games, and was astonished that I still found the graphics in GT3 to be superior to GT2002. I am referring mainly to the graphics of the cars themselves. Compared to GT3, I think other racing games (including GT2002) lack realism in the physics department, and most especially in the way light is reflected off of the cars' bodywork. Cars in some games are even out of proportion, or body lines might be wrong.Going back to GT2002 again after a week or so, I realized I really didn't like the cars aesthetics as much as in GT3. For an xbox game, they could have been better.
Second, where are the good cars??? What is this business with all the old funky looking Japanese wannabe muscle cars? I do not want to drive any of those cars, yet that is all you can buy with the money allotted to you in the start of the game. I was really disappointed with the initial selection of vehicles, and had to settle for a Mazda rx-7, I believe it was a 3rd generation Savanna. That was a good car for a while (best looking of all the old Japanese junkers, and fast) but theompetition soon outpaced it even when I threw all kinds of money at it. What I don't understand is, if this game was intended for the American gamer market, why did they fill their stable with so many old Japanese cars that most of us have not even heard of? I could understand a few of this sort of car, but not a majority.
Third, I have to complain about the prize money. I KNEW that I would be starting out on the low end of the prize scale and would be forced to race grocery getters for the first quarter of the game. Still, I was disappointed when I found that I had to spend all of my money upgrading my car in order to continue winning with it, which left me with little to save up for a hot car with. Of course, it was my choice to drop the $35000 I had saved on fixing up the Charger instead of buying the FairladyZ. You are not left with many options though, if you want to win.
With that said, I will continue to play the game, since it is still entertaining and challenging. I just wanted to give a more equitable view for those who are interested in how it might stack up against PS2 fare. And for the record, I was dead set against Xbox for a long time, since I rather dislike Microsoft for numerous reasons, but I have to admit it is a good product, and I will be buying many a game for it in the future. (Hopefully more tight racing games.) I am not abandoning the PS2 in favor of it, as some of my friends have, but intend on enjoying the best of both worlds. Thanks for listening, and GAME ON!!

could do a whole lot better!!!16372

turbo nutter from oxford, england says (26/Jan/2003):
What happened?! There i was expecting a game to absolutely blitz gran turismo 3 in terms of graphics, gameplay and options and instead got a poor imitation of the original gran turismo. I must confess that i think gt3 is an excellent game so i was hoping that us x-box gamers would have something a bit special, given the far superior capabilities of our machine, yeah sure the rendering of the cars themselves is impressive(if a little too shiny) but the backdrops are very disappointing and that heat shimmer, is it supposed to be that noticeable? I can't imagine so.also the music is absolutely dire, it's just as well you can put your own choons on it! on the plus side though the selection of cars isn't bad (although no where near as good as gt3)and the ford gt concept just thrashes everything except the caterham! that said when are games companies going to realise that unless you can tune the arse off peugeot 206's and the like we just ain't interested, what we really want are big scary-fast hellraisers with stupid amounts of power just like in,yes i'm gonna say it again,gt3! the bottom line is the x-box is so much better than ps2 or gamecube so why do we get ps2 hand me downs and sub standard games are you listening microsoft?

And the First Place Loser is Sega GT200216288

A gamer from NSW, Australia says (25/Jan/2003):
I got this game from the massive entertainment pack and it was the first game i played, mainly becos of i thought to myself if this is anything like Gran Turismo3 or better i can't wait to play it. I started the story mode bought myself a puegeot and started racing. The first thing i noticed was that the background graphics were something you'd expect a 4 year old to draw and you couldn't see the damage that had been done to your car. The second thing i noticed was that real life physics were none existant; The PS2 obviously CopyRighted it, so dont even bother sliding. You know what im just gonna go on to the positive points, if there were any. Oh well this game will be fun for another five minutes and then ill probly use it for a frisby.

One of the best games I ever played.16234

A gamer from Houston, Texas, USA says (24/Jan/2003):
This game is a very good racing game. There is only a couple of things that I dont like about it. The fact that you can't buy turbines for the Viper or the Corvette really bugs me. I love the graphics, and I love the way the cars look so realistic. This game puts Grand Turisimo at the bottom of the ocean. Overall GT 2002 is the best racing game I have ever played. I think there should be more seasons, because it took hardly any time to finish the first two seasons. They were really easy. There is one more thing I do not like about Sega GT 2002 : The fact that after every race, it always wants to give you a replay. I think there should be an option at the place where you choose the race that asks me if I want a replay or if I want to race a different race or if I want to rematch my previous race. The races themselves are awesome, but the fact that it always asks for a replay annoys me because I have to press start and exit out of it. I wish I didn't have to do that.
But overall Grand Turisimo is nothing compared to this game. Best racing game ever!!!

Best X-Box racer yet16022

Stryder (Black Balrog) from Victoria, Australia says (22/Jan/2003):
Plenty of cars, enough option to keep you going for ages, good mutli-player, and graphics that 0wn over anything that sony could ever dream of. So many rice burners, with a few V8's thrown in for good measure, if you play this game and give it a good bash u wont want to put down the controler. Build up a car and drag it down the 1/4 mile Vs what ever your friends have made, fun factor out the window! Rules over GT3, dont listen to what anyone has to say, if they bag this game they r just sony lovers with no clue. Oh... and so many Nissans! Go the racing 240Z!

Good but lacking on realism in some areas...15736

Steve Parker from Albury, Australia says (18/Jan/2003):
SEGA GT2002 is an excellent game but is lacking on some crucial areas. I found the sound effects of the engine was pretty poor compared to Gran Tourismo (2 or 3) and the handling of some of the cars a unrealistic.
The textures also wobble like heat waves over a BBQ when going down a straight section. I think this is when the game is loading the textures.
Apart from this the rest of the game is good, nice selection cars and interesting events to compete in.

For "Kinky" without a clue15563

F1Lover from Ft. Worth, TX says (16/Jan/2003):
Well, without going into massive detail about advanced driving techniques, and spending an hour explaining the "traction circle" formula, just keep repeating this when approaching corners: slow in, fast out. In other words, do most of your braking BEFORE you get to the turn, not after you've entered the turn and realized you're sliding off the other side of the track. Once you've got that down, try accelerating through the corner, backing off the gas when the car starts to "push", or go wide. It's also a big help to have the car upgraded with racing tires, brakes, suspension, and weight reduction (forget about all the horsepower items for now); you will see a DRAMATIC improvement over trying to boost the HP up to unrealistic levels.
And who was it that was complaining about a 600 HP Supra should run better than 11's in the 1/4 mile? Not if you can't get that HP to STICK to the pavement....all you're doing is roasting your tires, and turning on your traction control won't help, because then you're too slow off the line, and most of the time you get left behind. And something one guy briefly touched on was weight. Power to weight ratio has a LOT to do with how well you perform on the drag strip. Monster amounts of torque, and a light car, only cause the tires to go up in smoke. If you can find the right balance for each car (power to weight ratio), you'll be more successful. I have a Ford GT Concept that I've only boosted to about 550 HP (I saved the game and tried putting everything on this car, resulting in I don't remember how much HP and torque, but the car got WAY too squirrely and unpredictable, so I didn't save the data again), and I've beaten just about every other car in the game (makes you wonder if there's some commercial chest-beating going on, huh?). I'd like to see a real race between the Concept Viper and the Concept GT; that would be interesting.

one of the best racing games ever.15231

graham daley from nelson, england says (11/Jan/2003):
I think this game is way better than GT3. I have played GT3 and I thought that is was totally rubbish so I think that it is a game that is worth about 15%. Sega gt has some of the best cars in the world. I think that it is one of the best racing games ever. It has good racing tracks on the game. I think that it is a game worth playing.

No contention for GT315175

Gixxer750 from orlando, fl, USA says (10/Jan/2003):
Makes ya wonder were the designers even aware they had to make a formidable statement against probably them most perfect driving simulator game ever made? uh... ya know GT3! Or were the stockholders making all the decisions? I've been reading all these highly rated reviews here so I decided to give sega gt a try, despite my gut feeling that there is no way sega could have topped what playstation put so much R&D into. Let's talk about some of the dissapointments. Ok so they added car damage and wear and tear features. Not bad thats the only thing sony left out. But that all they did. They forgot to put in an indicator for the actual life left in the component in question. Basically you can overhaul the engine, suspension, and brakes, but when do you do it?? Supposedly you could be overhauling things when they don't even need it, wasting your money. And the money is another beef of mine. You don't win very much of it, and when you have just enough to barely get what you need, all of a sudden the competition gets too good for you. So there's no chance to win any more money. Now the cars, you think that here's where they would have put in the effort, but nah the hell with that we'll just pay for more advertising, there's enough people out there to sucker, let's just go that route. There's just too much negative to talk about here. I think I said enough, Sega doesn't deserve another chance, and they won't get one from me.

Ignorance: The condition of being uneducated, unaware or uninformed.15018

A gamer from Queensland says (8/Jan/2003):
Come on people if you are really thinking of submitting a review, you should probably have some vague conception of what you are talking about. Some of the things that have been submitted on this page wouldent even be worthy of a golden star or sticker from my old 1st grade teacher.
Now, I have played copious amounts of racing sims, car games etc. on various consoles in my time, and I am a huge fan of Gran-Turismo. Although, I am reviewing Sega GT 2002 for the X-Box, and do not wish to compare to GT3 or any other for that matter, but only to say that this game would have to be one of the best I am yet to experience. Combining a true racing feel with the luxury of over 125 cars to choose from AND modify is something that sets it apart. The realism of the exterior car detail is astonishing, yet i must say that although not a huge factor this game does lack in the area of scenery, i would have thought that with such attention to detail with the cars they would have put more effort into the scenery. Yet this games' pros does far out do the cons. This game is a true achievement in the area of "racing sims" and indeed deserves its recognition.

I haven't got the slightest clue about cars so give me some help15023

kinky from Moon says (8/Jan/2003):
I haven't got the slightest clue about cars and haven't taken a liking to racing games for GT1 pissed me off so much. I also don't have a clue what most of you guys a talking about. I got this game for free as well and started off doing the chron. mode. I used the Celica 3000gt and found it was a pretty easy car to drive. I then started on the gt mode and to my surprise the celica was only 8000 bucks. I bought it and raced a few races. I unlocked the Jag (can't remember it's name) and used that to drag. From there I've picked up a few free cars from the official races. The situation I'm in now is that I've just scraped through the B licence test and I haven't got a competitive car in any of the races. Help boys!

P.S because the game was a freebie, I think the designers of this game had my type in mind, that's probably the reason why you full on gamers and racers think it's so easy.

GT vs GT 200215023

speedy from TN says (5/Jan/2003):
GT 2002 as far as realizem handling rules gt-3 , for thos of you who are wondering what the fastest car is its the ford gt concept the (yellow one) and i hate ford time u add everything to it + nitro ( top speed of 203 ) it makes times of 8 sec in the drag use a mt to get that timei could lap atleast 1 car in every race but for thelast one on season 2, i was really disaponted the 3000 gt wasent in this game it was a real let down it was the fastest car in gt-3 good tose up between skyline and 3000 gt. best feature about this game the wear and tear on the car raceing games like this have needed that feature. They can get rid of that camera crap tho make a option to turn it off. it did lack the tune able options that we all loved in GT-3 and the where was the parts information at ? it gave like a 5 word sentace and that was to tell what it was not the specs and so on MS should come up with there own game im sure it would be 100 times better then sega gt and ps gt by far well thats my opion for today great game over all but lacking serouisly in some departments
