Best game I've ever played. |
| Nathan Blevins from Spring lake Mi, USA says (17/Jun/2003): |
While I was playing it felt like I was in the mech. It's just that real!! Only when you die there's an armor where you died that no one can pick up it's stupid. The trucks also carry things that are 2 times as big as them it's retarded. But other than that the game rules.

online , online , online... |
| Pimpy S aka: $ Money from Ohio says (17/Jun/2003): |
So... Mech Assault is pretty sweet... that is until you play online with people. For some reason these people always gang up on you with like 6 Ragnaroks/Ymir as soon as you step out just because you are in a Mad Cat with the tag name Pimpy S. Whats up with that? are they so threatened by a Pimp in a Mad Cat that they have to team up on him just to kill him. i mean, i can hold my own and take out 3,4,5 of them (like i said, i'm a pimp) but even the pimpest player cant stand up to that cheap crap. and what's with people complaining about me "stealing" kills? you didn't finish them, i did, so get over it. And then there is capture the flag. what the H*LL? All the people who play are selfish players out for their own gain when , being the pimp at capture the flag that i am, can easily score 20 times per game if i actually had some cover fire, but no. SO... in conclusion, buy Mech Assault, its sweet. Play single, play with a friend, but don't play online without the supervision of Pimpy S.

The first thing i noticed when i started to play Mech Assault was the controls. Just like an FPS!! It made it very easy to play. After playing so much Halo and Red Faction 2, it was an easy transition and that warmed me to the game right off. Then the graphics, streaming purple lasers lancing into windows......sweeeeeeet. ay this. Everyone of my friends that has played this game love it and u will too. The only downfall on it is that u can't really customize your mech as much as the wer armors. Then i realized how powerful themech can truly be when I played grinder in multi player mode. The thing I hate is that the big mechs are good but the atlas sucks. The promethues and Ragnarok are the best. the Ymir heats up to quick when you rampage and the atlas can't get the job done quickly. For a none stop assault play grinder with BowMan.The Bowman and prometheus are the best due to there awesome misslesthe intensity you will definetly forget to click the right thumbstick a couple of times and get destryoed quicker. Better than the PC |
| CrazyHorse from Welland, Ontario, Canada says (29/May/2003): |
I started off this game as a Mechwarrior veteran. On Mechwarrior 4 Mercs, I am the leader of a very powerful Clan. When I heard that there was not going to be a Mechlab and that you couldn't use a Fafnir, I was dissapointed to say the least. That was, until I played the first level. The graphics are what really grabbed me. The flat textures and ugly weather effects are all gone. They have been incredibly enhanced. The streaming lazers, lighting up the ground as it travels and deep vivid explosions are never boring. I just love watching buildings implode onto themselves and hearing the glass smashing and the steel bending all the way down. The snow in arctic levels actually piles up on your mech and gets into the vents. The contol is different but much easier. Of course, I have always been a fan of mouse aiming, you get used to the analog stick very very quickly. Because I am used to human challenge in a mech, the game was easy all the way through. That was on the normal level though. I am finding it harder on Elite. Especially the end where you have to fight all those damn mechs.
My only real criticism of this game is the lack of Offline play. After you finish the game, you might as well put it away if you dont have Live. There isn't even a Tournament mode you could play and you can't even use the Ragnarock or Ymir through the easy levels just for fun. Because of this,I gave it a 9. Awsome mech game with superior graphics, deep sound and easy control.

Well that's my opinion with a few tips Mechs have evolved....man hasn't.....

Impressive, fast paced mech game but unbalanced multiplayer |
| Scott Ackerman from Forest Hill, MD, USA says (31/Mar/2003): |
Mech Assault was a much better game than I had anticipated. The graphics (especially the shattered glass) are great and the cities give you a good sense of how big your mech really is. The campagin, although short, is very fun to play. Out of all of the xbox live games so far, I beleive that this game has the best online format. The controls are easy to get used to, and if your a Halo fan, then you will master the controls QUICK! Why then, do I give it a 9 instead of a 10? Well, there are tons of mech to choose from, but when your playing online, about 4 or 5 mechs are worth using because they're the big powerful mechs with the better health and weapons. I was hoping that the new downloadable mechs would be big and powerful so there would be another mech worth choosing but they are both small so you can't possibily win in a battle with them. It's a shame, this one problem with the multiplayer damages, but definitley not ruins an other wise phenominal blast to play. If you have xbox live, buy this game.

Almost as good as Mechwarrior 4: Merc |
| Aspalushion Wolf (Hehe that is my net name) from Somerset, Kentuky, USA says (25/Mar/2003): |
I enjoyed mechassult until the end (I might tell it to you the end if you give me ten dollars), and even after I beat it I had fun playing around in the Ragnorok (I think that is how you spell it) and don't even have X-Box Live! But you can't make your own mech configuration. But that all leaves your mind as you run directly into combat. BLOW IT ALL UP!

A great game for anybody EVEN YOU!!!!!!! |
| Joe V. from Antioch, California says (15/Mar/2003): |
Here in Antioch California the greatest game is mechassult. Why you may ask, because it is a third person shooting Mech game. RThis is the first mech game I've played and it's the best. The single player took me weeks to beat. It's not short it's long. Every level I sayed to myself please let this be the last level. This in a lot of peoples opinions is an absolute masterpiece. on multiplayer it is awsome you can play for hours on grinder mode. I actually beat it by defeating seven ragnoraks at the same time (of course my friend helped me). This game gets even better with Xbox live where you fight people around the globe man not to mention the updates they may make on the game. Also when you die on grinder mode you become a human and can selfdestruct. It splatters blood everywhere. This is NOT a cheat it is a hint. Let a buddy die, then you go far away from where the mechs drop down. Then your body can walk up to him and you can try to get the first shot on him (he will just sit there). E-mail me!

Hello every one. Ive heard mixed stories and so on from all types of people, the game rocked , the game stunk. Im not sure of eather because i just went out an bought it ( cheaper than the retail price so im not waisting any money any way i got it with trader credit so yeah ). But any way who cares if it doesnt go alon with the mech stuff. Its like this game desiners make games to be enjoyed not read into buy people who think they know every thing about the saga. Only the game desiners can know every thing about it because they make it. I hear weapons are good game play is great and so on. so if your so hoplessly dependent apon a game then have a nice life of sitting in a dark room staring at a screen and having people look at you like your nuts. mow dont get me wrong i like things to and i even like to learn about them, but dont let things rule you. items that rule you own you. so thank you for your time and if you have any problems with what i said e mail me at Nimesis< remove me > at swbell.net and voice them. the best things about people are what they think.

What this game needs... |
| greckoboy says (28/Feb/2003): |
Here's what the game needs (or perhaps the sequel) for die hard mw fans and console gamers to take this game seriously.
1. More mechs and weapons with correct stats (30-50mechs and 100+ weapons would be sufficient)
2. More depth, like environment playing a bigger part in the game, and stuff like mech labs, choosing missions or even hiring mechwarriors
3. More ways to duke it out with your friends on multiplayer (like capture the flag)
4. Fast paced action with stuff like pre-recorded voices and drama, with more strategy and the same great graphics.
Just combine the layout and environment of MW4 (all versions) and perhaps some of MW2's single player depth - and I think the xbox is capable of all that, and I think the game would seriously be the best on the xbox.

Great gaphics, Great control, cool effects, awsome fast paced action. Then the game dies. multiplayer sucks because of the stupid five minute time limit. And forget about a in-depth interactive storyline. You guys are pretty stupid for a 10/10 score. Only get this game if you are a die hard or for the Xbox live capabilities.

A great looking game; that's where it ends. |
| Damien from Denver, USA says (25/Feb/2003): |
Mech assault, looks great and controls are intuitive, makes a great initial impression but that's where it ends. Unfortunately a waste of time for a sophisticated player; other, much better Mech games exist. This game has low depth and replay value, the problems are: linear missions and storylines, weapon controls and abstraction, the complete absence of mech designs and 1st person shooter style power ups. Linear missions, just one route to go, no other options, completely nullifies replay value! Also destroys one's morale and desire to fight hard. The missions and their conclusions are the same regardless of how well you do or how thorough you are while executing them. Linear storyline, regardless of mission performance, difficulty or player intent the story is always exactly the same. No mech design or modification whatsoever, infinite ammunition, poor mech selections, less than 10? Many missions do not even allow a choice of mech at all. Remarkably disapointing for the Mechwarrior universe. There is only 1 trigger key! Great mech controls but awful weapons use, you can only shoot one 'group' at a time, they must be toggled with a shift like trigger key before they can be fired with the other trigger. Remarkably infuriating considering the number of unused buttons on the controller and past mechwarrior examples! Missles, mgs or laser(ppcs too) are the three groups and are always seperate. Traditionally mechs have been able to attack with defineable weapons combinations or even fire all of them at once, which is completely absent in this game. Even though mechs look visual different, all mech's weapons play exactly the same, there is no difference in mechs weapon groups because they all have the same 3 groups and since only 1 can be used at a time there's little point to that. A player ends up utilizing 1 group, almost all the time. With infinite ammo, there is no need to switch. All the weapons have the exact same locking mechanism (with exception of the powerless mg), so missles and balistic weapons and lasers really all do about the same thing. The slightly harder hitting main guns (ppc or gauss) will never run out anyway. Most mechs have mgs on a fire group which are completely worthless, short range and could easily have been left out. The inclusion of infantry in the game is abysmal. They are easier to step on than fight. They are nearly incapable of hurting a mech even on the most difficult setting and in the largest of numbers, once a player tires of stepping on them they are simply ignored. Difficulty settings add no depth to the game, on easy the missions are so trivial one can walk strait through them with impunity. On the hardest setting, elite, the only differences are the targets do about tripple damage and the health power ups in the levels are worth about a third as much mech health. Quality difficulty improvements are completely absent, the AI does not improve, the missions do not change, the enemies are not different or more numerous. Poor Missions, the same result occurs no matter how you play, can not "save the rebels" in the save the rebels mission etc. Awful limitations on the 3d environments: sloping mountains mechs are forced to "slide off", small map sizes, single forced attack routes, redundant enemy bases all look the same with identical base defences. A player can see to what appear as traversible locations but can not traverse them outside of the "virtual map" world. Map layout and virtual world limitations force the players attack route to be directly at the fortified positions in all the missions, there is no infiltrating or outflanking whatsoever. Most missions could be easily represnted in a 2d styke linear game type path. An infantile power up system exists leaving temporary mech augmentations in the field sitting around or generates them after the destruction of suspiciously similar looking structures in all the maps and enemy mechs and supply vehicles. Players will look for the red green blue or yellow boxes in a very basic power up system. This system is much more akin to a first person shooter than a pilot type game, players with this forte would be better served by 1st person shooter type games. Sophisticated pilot type players will find it out of character for the genre. In summary, a great looking game with intuitive control hurt by lack of depth from linear missions and storylines, and design elements foreign to the mechwarrior world including poor weapon controls and abstraction, the complete absence of mech design(s) and 1st person shooter style power ups. This is really counter balanced only by the candylike parts of the game including smooth visuals, excelent looking explosions and remarkable environment damge (buildings and cars really) all things that pale quickly and are nearly identical in all the levels. 3/10

Fails in single player aspect, but rules supreme online! |
| Killer Fridge from Surrey, UK says (23/Feb/2003): |
A slight dissapointment really on the single player aspect of it. I bought this game because i was trading in a couple of games, and i had played various other Battle Tech games. When i got it home i was suprised at the sumptuous graphics that came up. Wow! The controls where eay to pick up, but then the game finished so quickly. But this is made up for the fact that later on in xbox lives future, new levels are going to be able to be downloaded, along with other mechs, such as the already downloadable mechs Raven, and Corvus, plus two new maps. This more than makes up for the fact of not being able to customise your mechs. On the multiplayer sides of things, this title rules supreme on xbox live. There is no lag, voice is clean and crisp, and you can mute the people who really bug u! Yeah! This is the best title on xbox live so far (bar the moto gp online demo). People who say that this game lacks depth - get broadband and an xbox live starter kit, sit back, and smile widely!

This game rules. I'm a pc gamer and i've play all the mechwarrior titles and they are ok...compared to this...if you've played mechwarrior and liked it you'll love this. The control sceme is perfect unlike all the pc mechwarrior titles. I picked up the control sceme in like 3 min...If you've played halo it much resembs it except its 3rd person...anyway buy this game, you wont be dissapointed.

You know it! |
| Drew Biggs from Lacey, WA says (19/Feb/2003): |
I would have to say that MechAssault is one of the best games that I own, but Halo is definitely the best overall. MechAssault is a very close second. If Halo had not come out, MechAssault would no doubt be rated the best over everything. The types of Mechs that we get to not only fight and fight with are really tight. The graphics are awesome and you can't find anything better within this area of gaming. The types of things that are elaborated, are elaborated without fault and the creaters of this game should be given a metal because this game is off the hook.

Don't underestimate this game! |
| Disturbance from Minneapolis, USA says (18/Feb/2003): |
At first I thought what several of you do about this game. Thought it was a decent game, good single player, but really not much depth. Then, I bought xbox live. Wow, was I mistaken. I think I am even going to go buy the strategy guide now. This game is amazing. If you own this game and have yet to buy xbox live, go buy it now! I've been playing non-stop for the past two weeks and I am still learning new stuff. All you PC gamers might piss and moan about it not being as good as previous Mechwarrior games. But as a console gamer, I very much enjoy this game!
