| SamDaMan from New Jersey says (16/Mar/2003): |
If anyone having trouble with something, then maybe your going about it the wrong way, or you need to practice. Splinter Cell is a great game and I dont see what some of you people problems are! Tips: aim for the head to kill in one shot and what till crosshair is zeroed in before fireing. Hide bodys in dark places were Sam is in low-lowest visibilty to avoid alarms being randomly turned on.

Splinter cell better than metal gear solid? |
| Brad Thompson from Great Britain says (17/Mar/2003): |
splinter cell is a great game, but there are'nt that many guns. The last level is way too easy to end the game and so are the other levels. Metal gear solid has lots of guns and there are various difficulties for your desire. I think the wall mines were a brilliant idea in splinter cell and the next metal gear solid should have them. The health bar in splinter cell is quite realistic as the Army's standard rifle would take about four bullets to kill you. Metal gear solid on the other hand can take many bullets to kill you, not including european extreme and hard. The whole game is fairly easy even on hard. Metal gear solid beats splinter cell

True Gamers Game |
| SexualPanda86 (AIM screen name) from Washington....(state) says (18/Mar/2003): |
Alright, yeah the graphics are awsome. What is up with all these people crying about glitches? Stop being queers and play the damn game. And for you people that say it is too hard? Go back and play your candyland, whatever you think is easy. This game is awsome game play, challenging, but not too challenging.

Really good game, though it could use a few tweaks |
| das_ghost77 from Ottawa, Canada says (19/Mar/2003): |
When i bought this game, i was excepting amazing things. the game delivered, but theres still a few weak points. but first the good thing. the graphics will blow you away. you think HALO and Unreal Championship had good graphics? look again. this is the true power of Xbox graphics unleashed. The sound is really good. the music goes with the feel of the game; for example, the music really picks up when $h|t hits the fan, and so on. the sounds are great, and the voices are good. These parts of the game hand MGS2's ass to it. The story, it depends. if you are a Clancy fan, then the story is good. as far as general compiuter game stories go, its pretty good, but not supper amazing, clasic techno-thriller. the game requires much more tactical stealth oriented thinking than MGS2, so if you are a big fan of running through levels and blasting away with a machine gun, this might not be your game. you should rent it first. The game is reserved about handing out ammo to you. all you get on the first level are two clips for your silenced pistol which isnt super great as far as pistols go. if you are not a patient gamer, rent it first and try it out. if you get the pc version, the gamne gets easier becuase of the quickload and quicksave options, but the xbox owners arent that fortunate. THIS GAME IS HARD AND IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE. another thing is that the game doesnt have lean buttons, which oculd be a big bonus. sure you can look around corners with your back to the wall, but it stops there. opening the doors gets a bit tricky, since you always end up standing there and opening them right out, so theres always a chance that you might get unpleasently attacked. there are no multyple ways to open doors, and they should (hint hint, ubi soft) include this in a patch. besides these two things, i find absolutely nothing to complain about :). the last thing is that the levels dont let you explore that much, theres always a pre-determined path. sure you can go about different ways of going through that path, but theres very limited straying of the predermined route. this doesnt bother me that much, and this could change with further levels. asides from the things i just listed, this game is perfect (for its genre). however i suggest that you rent it first to see if you like it since it might not be your style.
however, from my point of view, this game is awesome. this is the kind of game that requires actual thinking, not just point and shoot. the real stealth action game

addition to my review |
| das_ghost77 from Ottawa, Ontario says (19/Mar/2003): |
I played the game some more, and i found some more annoying things. you cant pick up dead peoples guns. thats the only thing that really annoys me, but since the rest of the game is awesome, im willing to overlook it. but come on ubi soft, consider it. you should be able to pick up other peoples weapons, whats so hard about integrating it into the game. another thing is most of the missions where you are allowed to kill people, you could use an extra clip or two. those are the only other bad things in the game. if you are reading reviews that say the game is crappy, thats bs. come on, its the first release. thats what patches and add-ons are for (for those of us with xbox live)

The Shiznit:) |
| Kyle B. M. from Merced, USA says (23/Mar/2003): |
This game is truly amazing. The graphics are the "Oh my god!" type. I've never played a game this fun, challenging, and once again, honest to god amazing.
The high points in this game to me are:
•graphics
•level of skill required
•weapons
•alarms
•levels
I think there should've been more levels, but it's cool I can download them on xbox live. A sequel is requested. A unique, and awesome gaming experience in this game took place completely through every level. Nice Job!

A HELL OF A GAME!! GIVE ME MORE |
| S. GRANNY from CHICAGO IL COOK says (3/Apr/2003): |
I am a Metal gear and Syphon filter granny, I think SplinterCell really tweaked my brain. You have to use what you have, and sometime save what you have Never use the the strag guide, do iit your way, There was plenty of amo. I loved Michael Ironside voice. My grand daughter want her XBox back, because i am a Playstation 2 person, but now there is splinter cell. I must t ry it for the PS2. Great game

AWESOME GAME! |
| Ryan Borchert from Carol Stream 306 Iliinois Usa says (4/Apr/2003): |
I think this game is awesome and all but there is 2 very big mistakes this game has made Number one is that They berially have any guns and everyone Loves guns and the last promlem is that the game takes way to long to beat i mean it take like 2 months to beat the game and i forgot there is one more promblem is that in a couple of shots you are dead you die to Quick. But overall this game kicks < remove me > at $#

That punk with the one is dumb stupid actaually |
| Terror's Eyes from Jamaica says (5/Apr/2003): |
I have played the game and it's basically pure stealth cool graphics and many ways to do the same thing using people as human sheilds. Jumping on people to soften your fall. I mean how cool can this get. Oh and maybe your pissed because you only got a X-BOX to play it on guy with the 1 vote but this is PC we save wherever we want and a good gamer never blames his games. Only your skill sucks

The game kicks ass |
| Russell from Telford, England, United Kingdom says (8/Apr/2003): |
I think that Splinter Cell is a really good game because you can acturally do things that you can't do in other games, like stay up in wall by your thighs is such a good part for the game. The graphics are really good aswell, espically for the lighting effects where you can see the rays. The lifespan of the game is pretty good but I think that there should be more levels insead of nine. The weapons on the game are exellent and are really good for things like destracting guards so you can sneak up on them, and kill them.

Heckters good |
| Unknown from Lakewood, Washington says (8/Apr/2003): |
This game is the best game I have evered played (besides Final Fantasy 7) This game is really really good. It has good graphis it has a good story. Better than Metal Gear Solids one for the Xbox. The game towers over the compitition and is really really really good, fun and good (again).

Let ' s bring it on. |
| jerre from Hemiksem, Belgium, Europe says (11/Apr/2003): |
Best game ever for playstation, game cube and x- box. really like the game good graphics, good background music. The producers did a very good job. I hope they are going to make another Splinter cell, because I'm almost at the end. I have it now for about 1 week and it's very adictive game. Sometimes my hart also stops during te game i think. It' s the first time that i bouht such a game and i realy like it

too slow moving, needs more action |
| ronald reagan from TN says (11/Apr/2003): |
i heard all of the great reviews for this game, but it is way too slow for me. i can't stand just waiting and watching, and being stealthy. I guess halo has ruined me from the patience i once had. i do like some of the features, and the grapfics are pretty good, but i got so bored that i had to stop playing.

Unmatched stealth strategy champion. |
| Wulf from Texas, USA says (12/Apr/2003): |
No other game puts so much emphasis on stealth not many other games can you hide in the dark either. This game is extremely realistic and the creators of this game didn't fool around if anyone was ever a fan of Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, or Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of liberty + Substance or any Stealth/Action/Strategy games this game is for you. It is a great game and it will bring hours on end of fun.

This game is surreal! |
| Rene Martinez from McAllen, USA says (13/Apr/2003): |
Man, I traded my PS2 for my new Xbox for the sole purpose of playing Splinter Cell. Since I saw the previews for the game, I was captivated by it's surrealism. And I love games where you can go under the cover of darkness and kill silently. The graphics in this game is unbelievable. I especially love using my night vision goggles no matter how dark it is 'cuz I like the way the screen looks. The gameplay is awesome; the only thing bugging me is not enough ammo--though I do shoot for the head (I get a kick out of the lucky, at a distant, with night vision goggles on, one-shot to the head kills --DAMN), sometimes I get carried away cuz I am trigger happy. I love the enviornments, the levels, the camera angles....it's awesome baby...the only thing I would suggest is a prequel. Give us a taste of what the main character did and what he has endured up to Splinter Cell.

Pioneer in its own rights!! |
| Jacque from New Orleans, LA says (14/Apr/2003): |
Besides from being basically a spin-off of "Metal Gear + Syphon Filter" (played both of them, thumbs down) the game is a pioneer in its own rights, because of the unique storyline and killer graphics. The only downfall to me is the game lacked the dept in
storyline and the plot seemed to be a tad choppy and skipped over key points like, why did Nikoladze truly conspire with the Chinese Govt. and what was his eventual goal, and with the insert/extraction how did they get a Western Bloc. helo into Burma, and also the Splinter Cell consept is rather imaginative in inserting a one man cell member into a country and reekingso much havoc (can anyone say RAMBO!!!).

Well Done |
| atomic_fox from olympia, usa says (15/Apr/2003): |
Okay, people really need to stop complaining about the "lack of ammo". By the time I got to the last level of the game (where most of the shooting is necessary) I still had more than 35 rounds for each gun. This leads me to believe that many of you have been playing Quake/Doom/etc. for far too long.
[1] You don't have to kill everyone. In fact, you can probably sneak by at least 35% of the guards in the game. [2] A well-placed frag grenade or gas from a distraction camera can take care 3 or 4 guards in a single instance. [3] Airfoil rings can be used on difficult guards to stun them; then tuck your rifle away, run up and cold-$#< remove me > at ! 'em in the face with an elbow. [4] Wall mines can be set to take care of guards with long patrol routes. [5] Sticky shockers will drop any guard in 1 shot. [6] Bottles and cans can be thrown to distract guards away from their posts/routes.
I mean geez... that seems like a lot of viable options to ammunition. If you run out of ammo in this game, you probably shouldn't even be playing it to begin with. Looking at Sam, he's got quite a bit of gear already. Weighing him down with half a dozen 5.56mm clips would just be adding to much bulk and too much weight -- considering he is an elite professional that only relies on small arms as a last means of objectivity. Go back to Quake if you can't handle it, or some other game that lets you run around with 18 different weapons and jump with a 30-foot vertical.
Anyways, I really liked this game although it seemed a bit short overall and linear in some places. If there is a sequel I'd like to see *HUGE* levels and some more special movements like rappelling (hardly used in SC), crawling, swimming and maybe some more interaction with the environment.
Other than that, I give Splinter Cell a '10' out of sheer enjoyment.

Trash |
| Doc Hollywood from Cincinnati, Ohio says (25/Apr/2003): |
Big brother ruins this game. Every time you move this guy tells you "the mission is over". This game is so slow paced I dozed off the other day playing it. Where is the action and shoot-em up fun of a real video game. This game has nothing on such fun titles as grand theft auto. When I find the time to play a game in my free time I don't want it to feel like work, and this game feels like work. There isn't enough fun factors to make all the super-slow sneeky (boring) activities worth my time. I owned the game for two weeks and sold it for $5.00. This game is a piece of trash.

Awesome |
| Sam Fisher from Toronto, Ontario says (4/May/2003): |
This game makes you think which is probably why some idiots don't like it (Like Doc Hollywood from Cincinnati). They want the brainless shoot-em-ups. This is all about strategy and it's about time someone made a realistic game which doesn' t insult the user. I finished the game, now I go back and try to be daring on different levels. It's funny to hear Lambert freak out whenever you kill someone you aren't supposed to kill. I'm glad there aren't any cheats for this game because that would just take away from the fun of it all. This is, without a doubt, the best value in video gaming out there on the market.

Sam and Steady Wins the Race |
| Lewk Buttigieg from Sydney Australia says (5/May/2003): |
To a beginners eyes, Splinter Cell is like a tasty treat that you cant get out of the wrapper. The graphics are beutiully in place and the scenery/environments are more than fitting. In a first glance the game looks to be something that spy fanatics have always dreamt of. Then comes the controls. These things take some mastering, with a million different combinations to all of the buttons on the gamepad. It takes a while but being patient is the name of the game. If you're patient with the controls then you will take control soon enough. This game rates very high with all things considered. Firstly are the pros. The character designs and movements. Interactions with objects in the game is amazing. The way Sam climbs up poles and ladders looks amazing stunning. What adds to this amazing feat is the fact that NO motion capture was used throughout the making of the game. All animations were key framed, thus making it unbelievable that Sam moves so realistically and fluent. The ambience and sound effects are brilliant. It all sets the atmosphere to just the right mood. With a subtle hint with the changing background music, you can get an idea of what is going on around you. If the music is calm, then you can relax, however it wont be long before the beat moves up a notch. The levels are long and interesting which is something gamers look for. Something to keep you interested and not be over too fast. The game gives you a real sense of being in the situation. It takes away the typical arcade event of just running with guns blazing, and replaces it with a paced slow and precise way of handling enemies. Definately a game for the patient and observative types. Now onto the cons. Length and replayability. The games length let it down a lot. While it was good that i finished it before i got sick of it, however i finnished it so quick that i didnt get enough of it and there was nothing left to satisfy. Left with a completed saved game in one player and no special modes at the end of the game. No two player game in sight or anything slightly extra, except for the interviews with Sam that were there in the beginning. For example, Metal Gear Solid. A game where i struggle to fault. Long game, strong story and replayability to the max. If there were a few things i would change about Splinter Cell to put in a possible sequel, it would be to add a two player game, whatever the situation. And/or add forks in the storyline, by giving you a choice that if you do something one time you have the chance to do it differently the next time you play, each with a different out come. Things like that really excelerate a games playability. I hope you enjoy Splinter Cell and much as I did.
