You Guys Are Complaining14930

Matt Robinson from Spartanburg, S.C USA says (6/Jan/2003):
Splinter cell is one of the most exciting and realistic game i've ever played. Iv'e heard some of u complaining about how you run out of ammo so fast.......How Do you run out of ammo in some mission you cant even kill people you will run out of darts but it doesnt matter you jus use them as when you can. And some of you are complaining about how you wish there was more blood..you want to shoot som1 and blood be on the floor in giant puddles? Like they want catch you then. Besides if you take time to check out the headshots blood does go everywhere it just doesnt stay. And some of you guys want splinter cell live?? that would take the point out of the stealth idea. online players isnt like a guard. And the complaints about graphics look closely at other games find a line in animation and then look for one in splinter cell good luck...

Impressive piece of gaming15011

Sir Kill Alot from Brisbane, Australia says (8/Jan/2003):
  some more Q & A

"how come sometimes people can see you in the dark?"
- I've had people walk very close to me and not see me. Maybe you should look at your light meter and make sure it is actually dark. Or crouch, or put your back to the wall

"why is it that when sam walks on something narrow, his feet don't touch it?"
- For gods sake what do you want?

"why doesn't sam walk down the stairs instead of gliding down them w/o his feet touching?"
- If you take your time you don't slide down

"why is the aiming reticule so HUGE?"
- if you use the scope you can pop people off at long range, or maybe thats too hard for you!

Basically, I think you are trying to hard to find problems. Just try to get into the game, you might find it's actually enjoyable.

Really Good But Flawed15981

Caro from Dallas, USA says (21/Jan/2003):
Their has been a lot of rave about his game just like in Halo. The only difference is that this game delievers most of it. The graphics are the best ever. Shadows and human figures look great. It really kept true to stealth talk. No matter how much you try running around it will get you killed in a matter of seconds. The sound is great as are the character voices, Ironside the voice of Sam is really good , but lacks the grit of Solid Snake. And that is were the flaws start. It is no where near as good as Metal gear Solid. The controls are choppy at best. To simply go behind the enemy and grab him is way to difficult for anybody except a true gamer. Metal Gear made is simple so all could enjoy it. And the story seems done. Not a bad one like Halo, but not original even for A Tom Clancy game. Worth buying if you have the patience to master the controls.

It's the best game ever!!18702

Cole J. from Louisiana, USA says (5/Mar/2003):
This game gives stealth a whole new level! I agree with most people this game makes you think, and look through the level a few times for medkits and ammo, the gun is a last resort!! I never run out of ammo since I knock most of them out by sneaking up on people. Listening to the people talking to each other can sometimes be hilarious! They sing whistle talk about their family. You can set up cameras, and put up wall mines and see the people fly! When the people see you then you hid, they say "oly, oly, oxyen free" and "Come out and die" and [to his buddies]"He's over here". You also have to hide the bodies or they will find them and pull the alarm, then you will have to hide. You also have to defuse bomb and or wall mines in some missions. There are fifteen super realistic missions and you can download new ones from X-Box Live. I give this game a ten and if I could I'd give it a 10,000,000! The graphics are 10, game play the 10, and sound is 10 the best I've heard, Concept 9.9, Difficulty is medium. Overall AWSOME!!!!!

Splinter Cell has NOTHING on Metal Gear.18709

Lan Di from Toronto says (5/Mar/2003):
There are many characteristics to a great game: an involving storyline, solid gameplay, good entertainment value, and it should always leave you with something to think about after it's all said and done. Games like Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Shenmue 2 all fit the above. Splinter Cell does not. Let's discuss why.

First of all, Splinter Cell has a bad story, scratch that, it has a horrible story that doesn't move forward until you're three missions away from beating it. It's classic Tom Clancy trash, the world is about to enter World War 3 and for some reason the US government finds it appropriate to send in only one operative to take everyone on. Enter Sam Fisher. A man who has no character, and apparantly no brain. He does whatever his government tells him to do while given almost no information on what's going on; even when his daughter's life is supposedly on the line.

Never before has a game left me so detatched from the characters. Nothing is ever explained about them and when some of them die, you feel nothing. Some of this is due to the incredibly bad script, but it's mainly because of the cutscenes. In MGS2 we got cutscenes with dynamic special effects and hollywood-quality cinematography; suffice to say SC does not fare as well.

This is a shame because it's clear that SC can deliver graphically. The real-time shadows are really impressive as is alot of the texture work, but the character models and animation are no where near the quality of MGS2's protagonists. Even so, SC is one of the most graphically impressive titles in a while.

It's too bad the gameplay doesn't match the high-quality visuals. All you ever do in this game is wait. It's incredibly boring to just wait in the shadows for guards to finish their patrols until you can move. And when you do move, it's at a snail's pace because all the guards have hypersonic ears and will automatically pull their gun on an empty pop can that tipped over. And shooting these guys is out of the question most of the time. If I have so many damn freedoms, let me use them! Even when you do try to shoot at them, you miss half the time because although Sam is a highly trained elite commando, he can't cap a guy two feet in front of him.

I'm a big fan of the stealth action genre. I like Theif, MGS, and Deus Ex, but all SC is, is an exercise in tedium. There are a few new moves that Sam has, but it all feels too much like Metal Gear, only zero effort was put in.

The game's sound is decent. The music is crap but the sound effects are pretty nice in 5.1 surround. Everything makes a realistic sound, but it's nothing to write home about.

Overall I'd reccommend Metal Gear Solid 2 over SC any day. This game does not deserve ANY of the attention it gets, especially when a game like SHENMUE 2 was released the same time. Pick it up only if you've beaten MGS2, otherwise you're cheating yourself.

Cool graphics, too hard18858

anon. from Houston, TX USA says (8/Mar/2003):
the graphics and sounds are phenominal. But it's a shame that the guards have supersonic hearing and the alarms are set off by the smallest mistake. In my opinion, there needs to be an EASY level in this game because some of the levels were too hard and I ended up spending several hours on one check point. What was especially sucky was when time limits were set. It already sucks enough that you spend most of your time waiting during play in this game. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack several times just trying to get to the next check point. That made me say that this game is a shame b/c the graphics rock, but actually playing it sucks!!!

superb game- Splinter cell19698

Ben Marley from Harrison M.E. usa says (22/Mar/2003):
Well, Where do I start, I could begin by congratulating the makers of this game for creating a game which revolutionizes the word "stealth" in all games, and gives the user a new standard in which to grade other stealth games in the future, or, I could insult, and put down all those who openly hated and gave the game a low score. I'll start by complimenting the game. Splinter cell is by far the greatest game i've played in a while, its graphics are excellent, its story line, very well thought up, its levels inspire players to be cautious and to think as if it were reality as far as hiding bodies, crouching and making noise. In simple terms it makes players think, use their brains, which i think has been abandoned in many other games, either because the creators thought many people would'nt like it, or because they had to comprimise storyline for graphics. because of this, (and I am now approching my second topic)most likely many players have graded the game poorly on the grounds that it was,"to hard" because they had been exposed to games that that just gave the game away, and they were used to it. Also, since when was it manditory to buy a game, if you dont like it, SELL IT! and leave the reveiws to those who can grade it based upon one who can play the harder games not one who gets into fits of rage because the gaurds can hear realistically and the ammo amounts are fairly low,I say live with it or sell it, dont give it a bad reveiw because rite now you cant win the game. Beleive me, when I first bought the game and played it I could not get it right, the levels were to big, the gaurds could hear to realistically I could not do many manauvers and, plain and simple I sucked, and now that I have had the game won for over a month now I still play it constanly because of those same, and many other factors. However now that I have raved about the game here comes the reason I gave it a nine: no multiplayer option, I may be just ignorant for thinking after all that, that they could give a multiplayer option, but still, thats the reason. Thus ends my review. Oh, yeah, and they better make a second one!

Splinter Cell Rulzzz, but i want more missions!19972

Gserious from Delft, Netherlands says (27/Mar/2003):
I have splinter cell on the pc. The graphics are really great. I got Geforce FX. I'm a metal gear solid fan, and this game is even better then metal gear. For the people that are complaining that there aren't enough bullets, that's bull$#< remove me > at !, learn too shoot in the head, or sneak the guards, and I have encountred many bullets in levels, i have u search in every room u will find items. I hear that are downloadable missions for SC on the XBOX, when does downloadable missions for the PC comes?

Best game since ages20034

Alex from Wolfurt, Austria says (28/Mar/2003):
I have to say Splinter Cell is the best game since ages.
I have played MGS and MGS 2 as well but i have to say concerning to the Story I am more interested in the story of Splinter Cell (more realistic).

Look at MGS 2. Ok, cool graphics, cool moves and cool weapons. BUT: The Story is very confusing at times and too much mangalike.

Splinter Cell has the cool Tom Clancy - Espionage Thriller ambiente and you can relate more to Sam Fisher, than to Solid Snake or Raiden.

The graphics of Splinter Cell are according to lighteffects and movements of curtains etc. very good, the sound effects are great and the music gives you a nice adrenaline kick if you do something wrong.

If you set off an alarm, there come some guards and if you kill them they come not endlessly like in MGS :-).

The voice actors are great (Michael Ironside as Fisher), and the conversations between your enemys are interesting and funny.

The animations are great eg. Sam hanging between walls, rolling, the interrogation mode etc.

I hope there will be more games like Splinter Cell in the Future.

this game is unbeatable wot da u think send one in hey20677

A gamer from derby england says (6/Apr/2003):
I have just got the game, i think that the graphics are extreamly realistic, along with the sound. i like the game because its an original shooter the story line creates a great game play ,the story line is realistic in the fact of terror its great if you want a challenge. i havent ever seen a game like this befor seeing as its uniqe you do find lots of things that catch your eye .the message item is good because you can hear what you have to do. the thing is you need to like a chalenge. the aids that are the most helpffull are the light detector witch says if your in the light and you can shoot out the lights to help being spotted .there are also a few good wepons if you havent any wepons then you can sneak up on people and knock them out.

Reasons why i don't and do like Splinter Cell.20855

Ryan Danniels from London,England says (8/Apr/2003):
When I bought Splinter Cell I thought it was flawless. Playing it proved me wrong. Some things I didn't like. Bad things are:
.it is too short..when you put a body down the head sometimes goes through doors and walls.. not all lights can be broken..the multi-purpose lancher doesn't fire explosive grenades..he is utterly rubbish at close-combat..vehicles look scrappy and you can't break into them.the rifle is only single shot..the guards can't see you if you in shadow and you're right in front of them..you can only pick up items, ammo and Cokecans and bottles..he can't swim..only the game intro and the cut scenes between missions are good..he can't pick up enemy weapons or uniforms..on the power plant mission the level of snow does not increase..no non-campaign missions or multiplayer.
.there are only two guns you can use.Apart from that it's a good game.

Why i do and dont like splinter cell21469

Daniel from USA says (16/Apr/2003):
I love this game it is great, the graphics are awsome the game play is cool and it is all fun , but u should be able to grab people other ways instead of just coming behind them that is the only flaw otherwise it is one of the best games ever made!

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS!21508

Floobee from Woodinville Wa, United States says (17/Apr/2003):
STEALTH is fun. This game is to easy. I have already beaten the ps2 game and it has got extra levels. Beat it in less than a weak I hardly played for three hours. If it posed a challenge it would be intresting. Good for any person who sucks at stealth shooters. Any hardcore or even people who own Metal Gear Solid 1 or 2 will think this sucks.

Even Better than Tenchu?!21875

Seiryu from Louisville, KY, USA says (21/Apr/2003):
When I played this game for the first time I was blown away! The graphics are some of the best to ever grace a system and the game has one of he coolest video game characters ever: Sam Fischer. The music for the game really sets the mood too. I'm glad that they make you use your gun as a last resort by not giving you enough ammo to just shoot everybody you come across. The shadows in the game are amazing; sometimes you'll just sit there and stare at the shadowing effects (no seriously, you will!) This game is so realistic that after playing it you will look at a building and say "I could climb that" it's just that realistic. My only complaints are the lack of hand-to-hand moves and the trail and error approach that you must take to the game. You will probably die many times the first time you go through a level but thankfully three are many save points in each level. All in all, this is a must buy for anyone who loved the Metal Gear and Tenchu games.

What a great game22368

Mike from Essex , UK says (27/Apr/2003):
Wow! not much action in the firt level, but after that it just blows you away. What a great game, great graphics, great storyline, very realistic and just an all round nail biting game. Those who say this game is crap have no skill in this game and probably cant get to level 3 where you get the great SC-20 gun. If you have £35 in your pocket, go get this game, you wont be dissapointed.

What's realizism? Splinter Cell?40511

A gamer from Dresden,Ohio says (18/Apr/2004):
Splinter Cell, real darn cool. The fact that you stalk in the shadows just to shoot people is heart pounding! The game uses sight, sound, and light just to give you the advantages! So what if it's a little bit hard. Anyone can get the hang of it,especially if you're trigger happy. The SC-20K shoots sticky cameras, distraction cameras, sticky shockers, and best of all, bullets.Shoot the lights out, stand two inches from someone, and blow their brains out.The levels are designed well, they've made Pandora Tomorrow.(Splinter Cell 2). things don't get any more real! However, it's a wonder how Sam hangs onto pipes so long without falling. The goggles come in handy too. night and thermal vision really helps in foggy and dark places. You can even download levels on the internet!Don't ask me where. It's no wonder it got a 9.6 on the cover of the case!Even has a near future setting, a navy seals prototype outfit with the time setting.Crouching, gadgets, and guns, just means that you have to save the United States before Nikoladze blows it up.No pressure, no pressure at all...

Stealth Action Redefined20208

A gamer from Chicago, Illinois U.S.A. says (30/Mar/2003):
This game has the best graphics, hands-down. the game was very challenging, but I beat the entire game in one week. Don't waste your money with Metal Gear Solid, this game blows that away. The best part of Splinter Cell would have to be the stealth action. sneaking up on your enemy is much more fun then the James Bond, Run and gun type game. The lighting in this game is so realistic, it is crazy. And if you have a PS2 or Xbox, I suggest buying this game for PC instead of both of those. The graphics and details are much better and the mouse-look is easier than using your thumb on those controllers. So don;t waste your tim looking, buy it.

Must be patient22115

Nick from California says (24/Apr/2003):
Oh this has extremely good grahics surpaes most games. ONly thing that is not so hot about is that it doesn't have multi player and it's kinda short. The weapons our ossum ans fun to youse. If you are impatient this game isn't for you because you do a lot of waiting in the game. Me im a mix of Sniper Wolf and psycomantis from metal gear soid very patient but sneaky. That is the key to this game SC other than that this game is perfect for patient people. You must do everthing perfect one mistake can trigger a alarm or catch a guards attention. This is what made the game fun this is so far the best game I have ever played besides Vice City. I hope they make a sequel. Once you are done with the game you can load alevel and just mess around that is wear the fun comes in cap everbody up. Sticky cam um or something that is the best part of the game. I usally just through a dead body in front of a gaurd and run and interrogiate them this is what make the game fun I give it a full ten. The sound is also great they sound like the real thing what sounds the best is the silenced pistol and the gunshots and they talk very well and understandable. Life span is also great you have enough realistically Fun factor is a full of everthing best ive played in a loooooooooooong time great game.
