anti-climatic ending |
| josh from usa says (11/Dec/2002): |
I just beat the damn thing and I can say that the end looked like somebody was on a budget and needed to cut something out...like the friggin' ending. for as cool as this game was and for as much of my life I have sacrificed, i was pretty unimpressed.

Amazing game |
| Dan from NY, USA says (11/Dec/2002): |
This is the best game I have ever played for any game system in my life. The graphics and gameplay are incredible, along with the lighting and shadows. I became addicted to it. Everyone who is frustrated with alarms going off, you need to make sure all your bodies are hidden, in dark corners. I think the game is challenging as well. There are a few things that I would change about it, which includes adding a multiplayer, but the incredible single player makes up for it. I highly recommend this game, I give it a 9.8, and I can't wait for the sequel.

BEST GAME EVER (FOREVER) |

alarms. |
| A gamer from wilmington delaware says (19/Dec/2002): |
i read about 30 reviews from people complaining about alarms and running out of bullets. this is not rambo, nor is this atari. you cannot go into this game guns a blazing. the game is not that simple. it's for adults with patience a big screen tv and surround sound. if you don't find yourself timing guards or waiting a long time for the right moments to strike you aren't playing this game right. if you keep setting of alarms you aren't playing right. if you get into more than 3 gunfights you aren't playing right. follow directions. you're a fat fingerer and you should be playing mario kart, the end.

Best Game Ever Played |

A little help on the CIA level. |
| Nathan from Ludlow, Mass. says (1/Jan/2003): |
OK, I bought Splinter Cell the day after X-mas. I love it. I beat it twice, on normal and hard. This game is great, because it's the first of it's kind.
I will explain to you why this game is the best game ever. First, it is made in America, by Americans. Tom Clancy and all the people at Ubisoft are geniuses. The games they have made are more realistic then the Japanese developers. I'm not racist or anything, but how often do you see a vampire, a physic, a black chick with a massive laser gun, and a huge metal dinosaur all in the same game? That's right, I'm talking about MGS and MGS2. They were great, but they weren't realistic enough to be called a stealth game.
Splinter Cell on the other hand is realistic. You enter a room after using the optic cable to check it out. You find a guard twenty feet away. You can do so much right at that second, shoot him in the head( which always works for me ), shoot the lights, shock him, air-foil round him, ignore him all together, or you can sneak up on him and knock him out. Those facts alone make this game just plain nasty.
Alright, as for the CIA level. Don't kill anybody here, or the mission will end. In the begining if you want to skip a little bit, don't go into the air vents. Instead, you can go to the left of the front door. There should be a pipe. Climb it. Jump to the ledge, and enter the crawl space. You will find yourself in the large room right before the elevator access. You can eliminate most of these guards with basic sneaking and attacking. The guard on the phone in the elevator room can be knocked out when he's talking. You'll have to distract the other guard though. If you throw a can towards the entrance of the room, he'll probably leave. I'm not going to tell you about the whole mission, but I will tell you that if you go slow, and learn the guards' routes, it can be completed without alerting the guards at all. I did it on hard without a problem.
Now, I'm going to tell all the people that say there isn't enough ammo exactly why that is. Sam's gun is silenced, both guns are silenced actually. None of the terrorists' guns are silenced, except for some who have silenced pistols I think. Also, your gun is a last resort. You should not have to shoot all the time, and if you do shoot a lot, take very careful shots. Don't shoot street lights, I mean the ones on telephone poles, th big ones. Also, don't shoot the lights with cages around them, they won't break, so dont waste your time. One last thing, this game is based on stealth, so watch the alarms! Hide bodies like a magician, if there is a body on the ground, it should be completely hidden, or you will probably get caught. Use your head in this game, its all about brains over brawn.

don't get ahead of yourselves, kiddies |
| xMAGUSx from Edinburgh, Scotland says (6/Jan/2003): |
okay, i've read your pre-pubescent ramblings. some of you even made some okay points. but come on! "best game ever"? "totally realistic"?
splinter cell is a mostly enjoyable, if sometimes highly frustrating, MGS clone, which (contrary to certain opinions on this site) has a few infuriating bugs.
first, the good points:
the graphics are excellent, in particular the lighting effects, including the night/heat vision modes. very impressive.
the animation is very good, although a little 'hammy'-i nearly wet myself the first time i saw sam's stealthy walk!
hiding in the dark is great-i love putting out the lights then battering the guards.
holding your breath then sniping a guard is very cool.
now, the bad points:
why doesn't sam start with the ammo/equipment required for the level? what thy can supply him with a bunch of cameras, but not a few hundred rounds of ammo? get real.
where stupid level design meets inconsistency of environment: on the oil rig, sam has to take a stupid route round some girders, when the ability to jump over the fence would be much more easy and realistic. it just doen't make sense!
if sam's so tough, why can't he knock out an alerted guard with one blow? why can't he grab their gun? why can't he use a dead man's gun? how come sometimes people can see you in the dark? why do people insist on keeping their offices etc. pitch black all the time? why is it that when sam walks on something narrow, his feet don't touch it? why doesn't sam walk down the stairs instead of gliding down them w/o his feet touching? why is the aiming reticule so HUGE?
anyway, stop getting wet dreams about this game, people. it's pretty good, but way way overrated. 10/10? you think this game is PERFECT? get a grip!

Excellent use of stealth and force at the same time! |
| qwery from Lansing, Kansas says (8/Jan/2003): |
Very excellent gameplay and graphics however the ammo problem must be solved. However gamers must realize that the game is based on a real possible scenario and a special agent, whose sole purpose is not being noticed, carring 200 rounds of ammo is rediculous. The aiming reticule is tricky and needs some way of zooming. no game in my opinion deserves a 10 out of 10 unless it has absoulutely no glitches, perfect graphics and bad ass gameplay. Splinter cell is dang close but many of the things needed for a perfect game are not there. Another question about picking up enemy's guns poses another problem. Why cant I pick up their guns. Why cant I kill an officer and use their eyes to pass through the retinal scanners. Why did the gamemakers make a linear game out of a real life nonlinear situation. the only reason this game received a 9 in my opinion is because I am comparing it to other games that I have played. The game play itself is truly a piece of work it is a beautiful thing and the creators should make more and better games. Sam's crouch walk is a little wierd and I laughed when I saw it however if that is the way the military does it then thats okay with me. Sams health bar is perfect any armored special ops would die if he was shot ten times regardless of how much he had on. Overall you should buy this game I reccomend it highly

This game is the shiznitch |
| Mac from Illinois, USA says (22/Jan/2003): |
Splinter Cell may be one of the best games ever. It easily has THE BEST graphics ever in a video game. The story is also great. It's one of those great, one man vs. an army kinda game. It's not only beautiful to watch, but also to play. The controls are hard at first, but after a few minutes you'll have them mastered. Sneaking around, literally dissapearing in the dark, knocking enemys out, gunfights, espionage, this games got it all! The suspense of almost getting caught, or sneaking around, or the awesome, AWESOME gun fights. It's just sheer greatness. The best a game could get. This will keep you on the edge of your sit. Better take some time off, this one will take you a while to finish! This game is off the HOOK!

splinter cell-WICKED! |
| Kiran Jay Babla from london, united kingdom says (23/Jan/2003): |
splinter cell is probably the best game i have ever played. it has good graphics, good scenes and exellent moves. anyway, when you creep/tiptoe down the stairs and stop, you look like you're floating and it is quite hard to press and know what button it is. when you're playing, nearly every 10-5 minutes, you get killed. this is a very good game and i give it 9 and a halve but this website won't let me put 9 and a halve so i put 10 out of 10

New generation 3D game |
| Derek from Montreal, Canada says (28/Jan/2003): |
Everything in Splinter Cell looks likeit should in reality. Sounds, lighting, cinematics, actions, missions even are the best I've seen in it's genre. Remeber alo is not the same, so it can't be compared to Splinter Cell. Stealth is becoming popular amongst gamers. Splinter Cell beats out Metal Gear Solid anytime!! I don't see anygame getting even colse to Splinter Cell in the near future. Peace out dudes.

Best Role-Playing Game Ever |
| Bryan from Corpus Christi, TX USA says (4/Mar/2003): |
The features are stunning. Whereas most games would automatically do things for you (pick locks, enter access codes, etc.) this one allows you to do it yourself, further enhancing the gameplayer experience and getting the gamer more involved. Only problem I have is I can't seem to keep bullets as long as I need them. I rented it, not sure if I'll buy it yet. I've already got mad at the game (for not giving enough bullets) and yelled obsceneties at it, although that won't stop me from playing it. I don't like the whole "stealth" idea; I like shooting everyone and everything, which is probably why I keep running out of bullets. Anyway, Halo, Max Payne, Metal Gear Solid... Splinter Cell is on a whole different level, therefore can't even be compared to other games. This is Xbox at it's best!

Elite and groundbreaking |
| A gamer from Delray Beach, FL says (7/Mar/2003): |
Just amazing - Im on mission 8 and it gets better and better. For those who vote it down because you "dont get enough ammo" you have COMPLETELY missed the point of the game. Be realistic - if you were infiltrating the CIA Headquarters, QUIETLY, would you do so guns blazing? Go play Unreal Championship if you want enough ammo. Your brain is simply too small to understand the nuance, the direction, the scope of this game. That being said, I DO have a few points to pick at - not saving where you like sucks, I wish you could put on a soldier's uniform after you knock him out, the controls get really kludgy in heat of battle (the end of the hostage scene took me an hour cause I kept wanting to switch weapons faster than they could run and I died over and over and over lol). The dialogue is dead on, the cinematography is amazing, and the story line is flawless. Throw in DLs in the near future and I'll be handing this one down to my grandkids.

What A Game!!!!!!!!!!! |
| A gamer says (20/Apr/2003): |
Wow. I mean WOW. This game is really nice, and I'm only on the Fifth Level. CIA Headquarters is a long and very tight level. The others were kinda easy, but it still was awesome!!! The objectives are also really cool tt. Like having to carry the CIA guy around. Also, the gadgets and SC-20K is cool along with the secondary rounds.
|
THIS game is so cool |
| cj from california says (20/Apr/2003): |

One of the best game I've played |
| A gamer from Guilford , Connecticut says (26/Apr/2003): |
Although there are a few levels that are really hard, but other than that it's a very good game with absolutely stunning graphics! I also like how you can use one of the enemies as a human sheild and then fire while holding him. If antbody reads this who hasn't bought it yet, get some money and do so because, other than Halo, I'd say this is the best game on Xbox
|
The best game i have ever played |
| A gamer says (29/Apr/2003): |
for once this is a great game. one can do everything. the only problem is that one can not steal bullets from enemies that u have killed or take their guns. except that a perfect game. it is amazing how one can do so much and how sneaking is the main part and not killing anyone u see.
|
Solid Who? |
| Jason from Largo, FL says (4/May/2003): |
When ubisoft was teasing all of us with this one I to fell into the "OH WOW!! check out the lighting effects" group not knowing what else to expect. When the day got here and it was released I was floored by the presentation but I noticed a small problem, why couldn't you skip the in game cinimatics? I didn't need to see all of the story over and over again every time I screwed up. Now I'm not saying this is the only problem I found but I do find some of the missions a bit frustraiting but after being pulled from the mission in the CIA HQ a few times I realised it was my fault and not the games. You just need to think a few moves ahead and look around for an opening instead of going in guns a blazin'. It is a slow paced game for the most part and it's not for everyone but if you can work your way through it, it is well worth the effort if you can't then go back and play with solid snake.
