TO GOOD FOR WORDS | | Jonathan from Winterset,IA says (29/Sep/2003): | THIS GAME IS AWESOME!I don't know were to start...first of the graphics are awesome, and its like your actualy there!People breath and guards can hear you if your too loud but the best part is the stealth, this isin't a fighting game you have to LIVE in the shadows it's freaking awesome you can shoot out lights so guards cant see you, put on night vision goggles sneak up on him and...While all this is going on the guard's goin "What the heck was that,is someone there?"IS this not cool people?I guess you could compare it to Metal Gear Solid, but its more of a creep along, hide, and go kill 30 guys game. But it's still cool...
Anyway I guess I should rate it, The sound couldn't be better it sounds like your really just knocked that guy out or thats a real gun shooting. The Graphics are obviously awesome, they really spent alot of time making the game,And the fun factor?
110% this is my favorite game no doubt about it,you can throw pop cans and distract the guards,or turn off the light the person runs to turn it back on but he's lying on the ground before he gets there...;)There's Guarddogs, spotlights,Cameras,Retinal scanners and so much more!
I didin't like the ps2 one too much because they changed the levels and now im wondering "What the heck do I do?"I also like the plot, its like a Classic/Modern Spy movie but your right in it!
If you own an XBOX PS2 OR GAMECUBE GET SPLINTER CELL!
| the truth about splinter cell | | A gamer says (21/Dec/2002): | another typical game claiming realism but leaving it out in crucial moments. its a wonderful game, but here are the flaws
1. guards and cameras can see you through walls, so if you are too close to a wall and not using the white button to press against it, alarms go off, this is especially annoying in the CIA level
2. elite NSA spy sam fisher has the $#< remove me > at !tiest aim of anyone I've ever come across, I've wasted more bullets because a point blank shot to the back of the head on a guard does nothing more than get his attention half the time. thats with the pistol or rifle.
3. does it really matter what spot you shoot a security camera in? why do i have to fire 2-3 shots since if the camera isnt at the exact right angle and you dont hit it dead center on one of its sides it just continues to function.
4. considering the restrictions they put on allowing you to use bullets in this game, why do you have to become SO close to someone before the grab option occurs, and also, why when fighting hand to hand does he have the weakest elbow and longest recoil imaginable.
I love challenging games, rainbow six, ghost recon, both favorite games of mine, but this game is just ruined by bugs and poor coding on ubi softs part. hopefully they get a patch out ASAP for xbox live users to download that fix these glitches, ESPECIALLY the guards seing you through the walls thing.
| Whoa!!!! | | Eric from South Carolina, USA says (8/Mar/2003): | Splinter Cell kicks ass! The graphics are awsome. I wonder how they made this game's graphics so perfect, yet other game designers make their graphics look like $#< remove me > at !! The sound in SC is great. The cans, the bottles, the glass, the guns, and the people sound as real as can be. Everybody who's played the game has given it an awsome score, yet there are these few people who give it a 4! The gameplay is fantastic. I can't stand those games that give you so much health you can't die. You get just the perfect amount of health for this game. The enemies are pretty decent themselves. Everybody has the perfect amount of health. The guns are superb. They make other game's weapons look like sticks! They make excellent sound when you shoot them too. It's good that finally there's a game that lets you interact with objects. It makes me think somebody actually tried to make a decent game, unlike other games. And I like the fact SC has no cheats. I hate the little cheap asses who use cheats on games! It takes the fun out of the game. This game is extremely fun when you don't use use guides or get hints. And i'll bet that the people who gave SC a bad score probaly used guides or found hints off of the computer. This is an all around fun game that everyone will enjoy. If you are looking for a good game game, I recomend Splinter Cell all the way!
| well it just rocks | | john says (13/Mar/2003): | it's like you're in a movie, you got style and all, and you improvise, on the first level I ran outta bullets kiling cops without shooting their heads, still was quite fun ending the with just a can and barehand fighting, by the time I went to dead drop I had one bullet. in the next level I only died once in the last part where you pick up the grenade, I finished the level with 20 bullets... camon bullets are usefull to save work their not indespendable, you can alaways figure oput a way to wack their heads, the only time that I spended a lot of bullets was in the courtyard shoot out, the rest of the bullets I used it on cameras, after that level I finished all the others without worrying about bullets and now that I have the rifle bullets are not an issue, the diversion cameras are, gotta love those, I hated MGS2 because your weapon didn't kill enemies, they just slept for a minute, what kind of a weapon would do such a thing? even a slinger in the head would prove more efective. as for the gameplay, I play it on PC so I don't know what the hell are you talking about when you say it's not very fluid, it's probably the best and easiest gameplay I've seen, I figure out that playing it with a mouse and play with a gamepad it's not quite the same, gamepads are for games without necessary aiming. oh and I do save games whenever I want hehe
| Excellent use of stealth and force at the same time! | | qwery from Lansing, Kansas says (8/Jan/2003): | Very excellent gameplay and graphics however the ammo problem must be solved. However gamers must realize that the game is based on a real possible scenario and a special agent, whose sole purpose is not being noticed, carring 200 rounds of ammo is rediculous. The aiming reticule is tricky and needs some way of zooming. no game in my opinion deserves a 10 out of 10 unless it has absoulutely no glitches, perfect graphics and bad ass gameplay. Splinter cell is dang close but many of the things needed for a perfect game are not there. Another question about picking up enemy's guns poses another problem. Why cant I pick up their guns. Why cant I kill an officer and use their eyes to pass through the retinal scanners. Why did the gamemakers make a linear game out of a real life nonlinear situation. the only reason this game received a 9 in my opinion is because I am comparing it to other games that I have played. The game play itself is truly a piece of work it is a beautiful thing and the creators should make more and better games. Sam's crouch walk is a little wierd and I laughed when I saw it however if that is the way the military does it then thats okay with me. Sams health bar is perfect any armored special ops would die if he was shot ten times regardless of how much he had on. Overall you should buy this game I reccomend it highly
| Not that Great | | Lazarus from Outter Mongolia says (10/Dec/2002): | Yes the graphics are good and, la dee da, the hanging sheets move nicely, but I'm disappointed in this game. Someone indicated that the alarm went off because bodies weren't hidden. Well on that same level (the one after the chefs) I hid every d< remove me > at amn body and the alarms still went off. The only way to get through it was to carry all 5 bodies back into the meat locker. That took 10 minutes to do and it took me about 15 times to get through the level to find acceptable hiding places. Dumn, dumn, dumn.
I'm currently in the Chineese Embassy, got the info I needed and can't find a way out. What sucks is that there are short walls that on other levels he'd easily jump over - but not on this level.
The spinning round 360 degrees criicism is right on. Happens to me all the time. It's the inconsistencies that are the worst. On one level you can climb a pipe and in others you can't climb an identical pipe.
Alarms go off and if you run away 50 feet and wate, 2 minutes later everyone pretends they wasn't just an intruder and they weren't just shooting at you. Again, dumn, dumn, dumn. I preferred Max Paine much more than this one.
The graphics are great no doubt. But that's not enough to keep me coming back. And, by the way, Halo RULES! This game doesn't rate a score anywhere close to Halo
Lazarus.
| Must be patient | | Nick from California says (24/Apr/2003): | Oh this has extremely good grahics surpaes most games. ONly thing that is not so hot about is that it doesn't have multi player and it's kinda short. The weapons our ossum ans fun to youse. If you are impatient this game isn't for you because you do a lot of waiting in the game. Me im a mix of Sniper Wolf and psycomantis from metal gear soid very patient but sneaky. That is the key to this game SC other than that this game is perfect for patient people. You must do everthing perfect one mistake can trigger a alarm or catch a guards attention. This is what made the game fun this is so far the best game I have ever played besides Vice City. I hope they make a sequel. Once you are done with the game you can load alevel and just mess around that is wear the fun comes in cap everbody up. Sticky cam um or something that is the best part of the game. I usally just through a dead body in front of a gaurd and run and interrogiate them this is what make the game fun I give it a full ten. The sound is also great they sound like the real thing what sounds the best is the silenced pistol and the gunshots and they talk very well and understandable. Life span is also great you have enough realistically Fun factor is a full of everthing best ive played in a loooooooooooong time great game.
| Splinter Cell OR Metal Gear Solid | | Jim S. from beverly,Ma.USA says (28/Nov/2002): | I have to say that S.P. is better graphically but that they needed to include wall tapping in S.P. and i've found bugs in the game when after saving at a check point opening some doors without a cammera or heat sensitve areas or laser beams the "ALARMS GO OFF" the only way to fix this problem is to start over your mission...No idea why this happens but it does !!! as far as game play it's good.the A.I in the game isn't as true as they could be ..for example when a gaurd is alerted you should still be able to grab him from behind or the side, instead they just spin in 360-degrees of rotation and if your lucky enough that they need a reload then get them with your elbow in the face.I relize that this game is based on much more stealthy action but you should still be able to camacazi your oponents punch em kick em choke them to death.oh yeh when wedged between the right spaces where you are above the enemy you should be able to hang down and choke your enemy as well as jumping down with a two handed smash.with a wire or a rope ...nice huh ?right now i own bolth the PS-2 & the X-Box of the two systems right now I would have to say that the PS-2is the more fun system to play the same games on the X-Box is a little better with the graphics though so for now it's back and forth.
| Best game | | A gamer from Tucson says (21/Nov/2002): | This game is literally the best game i have ever played. Everything is right on. I have the whole version too so there is no freezing of any sort, it is as fluid as can be. I like the fact that you can use the shadows to your advantage to hide from the enemies. Shooting out all the lights also helps in this kind of situation. I had halo before this and it doesnt compare. Sometimes I actually think the game is real life the graphics are that good. The levels also seem to be pretty long for the most part so i dont think that will be much of a problem. Getting the opponents to cooperate is also a cool part of the game that adds that little extra to get through a level. you can pretty much use everything around you from the power line to shooting out the lights. You can also drag bodies to corners so you can clean up your trace so no one knows you were even there. Overall i love this game and i dont think i will stop playing it for a very long time. Now i have a different respect for games because the fact that this one is sooooooo good . I will probably never look at video games the same now that i have played this game. That is why i gave this game a 10 if the scale was bigger i would have just picked the biggest number the game is that good.
| This is one of the best mission games of all time | | Anthony from Texas says (17/Jun/2003): | I think Ubi Software did a great job on creating this game. The ideas are well though out and the story line is incredible. But while the game shines, it still falls in some categories. If Splinter Cell wants to be on the same level of games like "Goldeneye" it has to improve a lot. Pros: I love the fact that you can shoot out the lights and use your night vision goggles. I'ts cool how you can grab your opponents. The graphics are a ten. There is a training mode in which you can learn the basics of the game and excel in it. I like how the ending left everybody guessing Cons: The game is not as realistic as it should be (eg. A turret has its programmer lying nearby unguarded; Come on!). There are not many choices on where to go in the missions. If Lambert sees everything you do, how come whenever your stuck he never gives you advice. Some things you can climb and some things you can't, (Some things you can pick up some things you can't) very strange. When you shoot people they are never bleeding when you go up close to them. You can't take people's guns after you kill them. There are a lot more pros and cons I can get in to but I am running out of space. Overall the game was pretty good and I can't wait for Splinter Cell 2
| way ahead of its time... | | Miguel from California, USA says (13/Feb/2004): | im sitting here in my room and its about 5 am, i cant even keep my eyes open but for some reason i cant put down the xbox controller thats been in my hands since about 9 pm the night befor. this game is one of the best games of its kind. the sound, graphics, and game play are tight. guards can hear you if you walk to fast on certin floor coverings like hard wood floors, the watch dogs can pick up your scent, you can grab soldiers and hold a gun to his head and get info out of him befor you knock him over the head with your pistol. the lighting in this game is one of a kind and allows you check out the detail that went in to this title. one of the most awsome things about this game is that for most of the situations that you are in can be compleated in many diffrent ways, giving this title a real dynamic feel. this game is not for the run and gunners, if you do run and gun in this game you will end up with that red screen i try to stay away from(failed mission screen). most people wont think this game is fun but this title gose way past fun and compleatly ingulfs you in the world that is now known as SLINTER CELL! i recomend this game to the mature hardcore game lover!!!!! must.... have.....pandora.....AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
| this game is hot!!!!! | | uzo from Texas, USA says (31/May/2004): | Splinter Cell is one of those games that simply becomes an instant classic. However it's also one of those games that only suits one type of gamer. The game requires patience and timeing and so, gives a real challenge unlike most games like it. SC is demanding yet possible with and extremely high level of realism and interaction.i like this game because of it is realistic. i love realistic games. but i am stuck and i really need help. i am in the second level where you have to record what the guys are saying in the glass elevator. lambert keeps chimeing in and i always fail the mission. i would appreciate it if you help me. let me tell you why i hate the . i hate it because you have to work slowly so that you wouldn't be seen/heard by the guards. it is really cool when you use cheats. if you help me, i will give cheats.
I would like you to send it to me on my email because i really want to finish this game. please remember that the splinter cell that i am talking about is stealth action redefined that is the first one.
don't mind my mistakes though because i am in a hurry looking for someone that would help me please still send what you know about the game and i promise to reply if i have an answer or not
| SPLiNTeR CeLL (For you idiots) | | A.J. from Loomis, CA says (11/Dec/2002): | OK, I already did a review for this game... I still think it is a great game & XBOX Did an excellent job on it, I mean "Ubi Soft" too. But people keep ragging on how many glitches & alarms, for all you people who dont have an ounce of patience or skill to play this game it takes time & paying attention to detail as we always say in the MArine Corps. Anyways my point is maybe some pipes and walls are just slightly to high to jump up onto & maybe your just stupid & cant remeber bodies you like behind in the beginning of the last check point, you have to pay attention to these things, & if you play hard rather then normal you can tell the difference between the gaurds & How many there are. The dogs are a killer too im sure some of u will give up soon... but overall i love the game & if you guys wanna rag on a game that is much better then Halo that game was a kids game i beat it in 2 days. Dont get me wrong i lover it but dont put down a game that so many people like, if you dont like it or are frustrated because you cant get passed certain parts cuz u aren't remembering unforgotten notes in the data sticks ur wrong. I'm almost done with it at the last level... see if u can catch up.
| A must buy for any espionage fan!!!!!!! | | Josh from Austin TX says (13/Jan/2003): | I have always been a fan of the stealth scenario games like Medal Gear, Syphon Filter, etc....But Splinter Cell in short takes the cake. It has the very best lighting and attention to "most" details I have ever seen on any gaming software!! I looked at many other reviews and notice a lot of complaining. Basically about "there" problems like..."I couldnt shoot with that big target reticle!" Well if you have ever shot a hand gun before from as little as 10 feet away...your shot area is pretty big...The people at Ubi Soft payed excellent attention to those details of accuracy. It seems tedious at times but thats what made it so realistic. The fact that you arent an action movie star blowing everything away and getting shot 80 times in the head. If you want that..play Halo. Bottom line their were and always will be small things that could have been better...but if the programers spent all their time "perfecting" a game. We would never see it. So bottom line I think it was an OUTSTANDING game for what time they had alloted to make it in.
A note for others...Stop complaining about, "I ran out of bullets on the first level...WHAAAAAA!!!" Think espionage, not action movie.
| Very Impressed | | Krazy Kelso from Kent, OH says (31/Dec/2002): | I can only find two minor flaws in the game. One, the game is very linear. For the most part I found the provided maps worthless because you are forced to head to your assigned target anyway. Usually there is only one route to the target and no possible way to get lost. In the Police Station for instance, I was trying to use the map to see my location and destination and foound that I was forced to go there anyway.
The second problem is Sam's inablility to improvise weapons. I frequently run out of ammo no matter how much I try to conserve (I'm not terribly good at sneaky, or taking snap shots for that matter), and when you are popping in and out of the shadows slapping guards with assault rifles unconsious I begin longing for Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six where you have a substantial weapon and plenty of ammo. At least it would be nice to comandeer weapons from guards who don't need them anymore.
Other than that, a spectacular game. I'd say that Splinter Cell's the first person game is slightly better than Halo (because I like sneaking. It's compleately a subjective oppinion.) But without any multiplayer to speak of I'm not about to sell my copy of the later.
| Stop Cryin' over Auto Aim. | | Kevin from Boise, USA says (3/Jan/2003): | As some people have previously mentioned, you actually need skills to play this game, so if you are one of those people that needs help from mommy and auto aim….don’t buy this game.
Overall I give the game a 10. This game is very realistic. You are in enemy territory for most of the game; so you can’t go running around like a moron. You can't just go around killing everyone, or you will run out of ammo, as would happen in real life. This game requires you to think about how you are going to get through levels. Sometimes one alarm set off will end your game. You can't pick up the guards weapons because they don't have the same weapons as you. I like the gadgets in this game a lot. Sticky camera, distraction cameras, and the non-lethal devices. I like how the game seems to get harder with each passing level as well.
The one glitch I noticed is in using the non-lethal devices. 95 percent of the time when you knock someone out with a non-lethal device, they will stay down and knocked out for the whole level, but I’ve noticed a few times that they will wake back up and try to stand up, I don’t know how this happens, has anyone else experienced this?
| SC2 is cool, but not realistic | | ZeroKool from AK says (19/Jun/2003): | Ok, there are some aspects of the game that are sweet, like the SC-20k and the attachments for it, the graphics are cool, the idea of such special forces, but even if there was a fifth freedom, why would anyone leave dead bodies in a chinese embassy, who would clean them up? I had a friend that did spec ops and he tried this game, thought that it was pretty cool, but it was not possible. The govn't would never allow someone to sneak in to other places and just kill people. Not even with the Sept 11 thing. I think the game has good graphics, cool weapons, cool music by crystal method, but it is lacking in realism. The fun part of the game is being able to control a bad assed NSA agent, the weapons, both of them, and being able to shoot out the lights. The bad part of the game, not having enough ammo, no knife, lack of true "stealth". By that I mean the his suit was too dark to be of any use. He would stand out in real life like a sore thumb. That is why our military uses broken patterns, not solid colors. Same with SWAT and spec ops. I like the game, I have recommened it to people, but it doesn't meet other Tom Clancy games, or books. I give it an 8.
| This game is the best steath game there is | | Sam fisher from Louisville, kentucky says (1/Aug/2005): | In my opion splinter cell is thebest steath game on the market today. It would not suprise me if this ubisoft continues to make more sequals and improving the game. i agree with others that more ammo should be provided at each level but then again that is what makes the game so hard to complete. If they supplied more ammo everyone would run through the game shooting, and that would make it a "first person shooter" and not a "stealth" game. and there are plenty of "shooter" out there and there all the same. This game reqires your brain and not the brain of your foes all over the floor. I do think that there should be more mission then ten. And for those who have completed the game know that there are not 4 extra "gut wrenching" steath missions at the end of the game. And for those who have not those mission are in the nuclar plant. Its a slae pitch from the makers. I've heard many people compare this game to MGS (metal gear solid) but in my opion this is a much more well-drawn out game. for anybody who is knew to this game this is a game that u connot complete in 2 hours. if you can u are a god. and its one of those games u just cant set down.
| Splinter cell is tough and fun! | | johnfoo2 from traverse city, MI USA says (28/Dec/2002): | this game would be a excellent edition to anyone that is smart and can figure out puzzles and challanges. It was a very well put together game with no glitches when i played and demanded a lot of thought. It lacked the gunfire and killing some people like and are looking for in a game but that is not the concept with Splinter Cell, in Splinter Cell u have to use stealth more than anything else and that is one of the reasons i like it. Their is plenty of gadgets to use such as the sticky camera which is a miniature camera which can be shot into a wall with a multipurpose launcher called a SC-20k. their are plenty others like the optic cable which is a flexible camera which can be slipped under doors to see what is on the other side. you can also distract opponents away from you with pop cans and glass bottles. the basic plan of this game is that you are sam fisher a third echelon field operative (which is like a spy for the CIA) and you most go on all sorts of missions to behold the peace in the world. i gave this game a 9 out of 10 because you run out of ammo too much on some missions and the camera angles are troublesome in tight spaces.
| The game they coudn't hide. | | Matthew Grint 'Krastor' from Kent,England says (29/Dec/2002): | Although this game is about stealh,it's release was hardly hidden, this game was wanted months before it was out, imgaine all the lists to santa with Splinter Cell on. I love this game, despite it's technical flaws, yhe gameplay is enjoyable and exciting, if one thing could be improved, it would be the range of weaponry availably, you cannot pick up weapons off dead guards, okay, maybe they want you to use the proper stealth gun, that you should use, you cannot pick up ammo off dead guards, okay, most likely it's the wrong type of ammo, but the fact that you don't have a knife? What is more stealthy than a knife? what is more silent and deadly, what is an agent without a melee weapon? surely it's stealthy to snaek up behind someone and slit their throat. In reply to the review which says you cant attack people without ammo, you can, go up to them and press right trigger to hit them, or 'a' and then right trigger, they both work. Overall i like this game, and i hope there is a sequel which improves on thios main fault. Thank you for reading this, if you did, most likely you just read the first few words, didn't you, didn't you! C ya!
