Metal gear is good, this is better. | | A gamer says (9/Mar/2003): | I think that this game is done very well. I though that Metal Gear II was very well made also, but it was too short, and the PS2 graphics make me retch. I do, however, feel that Splinter cell has all of the elements of the right game. The visuals are great, the sound pounds on your cranium, and the gameplay rocks energy through your heart. Overall I think that this game is very impressive. Now for what I dislike about the game. This game is good, although at times it seems as though the enemies are totally, unrelistically challenging. Nobody should be able to hear someone fall from five feet, and then land quietly. Even though it is hard, that is what makes this game so endearing. The enemies in Metal Gear (Both I and II) are entirely predictable, and it was much too easy to slip pass them. The lack of multiplayer is quite disheartening, as I think that a multiplayer (either splitscreen, co-op *drool*, or online gameplay would make this deal all the sweeter. Overall, this is a great game, that has a few minor shortcomings. I still think, however, that this game is as good, if not better, than MGSI and MGSII
| Splinter Cell Sneaks up on the Competition | | Josh Schafernak from Mundelien, ILL., USA says (31/Dec/2002): | I, (as well as many others,) had high exspectations for this game. It is definately one of the top graphically advanced games ever made. (as a matter a fact all the models were made by hand to increase lifelikeness.) But does this game live up to its hype? I think so!! The lighting effects are flawless. You will find yourself shooting out lights to sneak through a room, to get behind an enemy undetected and knock him out. Another plus is the good voiceovers. When you have the Tom Clancy Logo on something the plot better be good. I like the effective abilities, and just the game play itself. There are many special features, and you can download more levels on Xbox live. This is very entertaining, but it needs some touch ups in a few key areas.
The only problem with the game, is headshots dont always connect, and some linear gameplay. Also their isn't enough ammo to go around. They should take a lesson from the Upcoming Zelda game for gamecube and allow you to take the enemys wepons. And finally, I love this game, but don't exspect it to blow the already exsisting Metal Gear Solid Game series.
| good game but y r u complaining? | | pol from new jersey, usa says (2/Jan/2003): | ok. very very good game. graphics are best ive ever seen, gameplay is awsome, much more realistic than any other tactical espionage game out there. who says you need more than 2 guns? and why do you run out of ammo so quickly? first, you only need 2 guns and u cant take guns off guards because its loud, not silenced, and y do u need them if your gun is better. how did u run out of ammo. i never ran out of ammo in this game. you just ran out of ammo because you are a bad shot and you dont know how to punch people from behind or grab them. and u cant take ammo from bodies because its the wrong type of bullet. Alarms go off out of know where because you didnt hide all the bodies in a completly dark area. and if you think you hid all the bodies check again. Oh ya, and why are you guys compairing this to halo? they are 2 completely different types of games and should not be compared. oh ya and splinter cell is a 3rd PERSON game NOT a FIRST PERSON game. first person is when you are in the characters eyes and 3rd person is the outside view when you can see your character for all you people that didnt know that.
| THIS GAME WAS F!@$%#G AWSOME!!! | | Kyle G. from Frankfort Ill. says (19/Jan/2003): | This game was awesome. It totally blew store sales. I thought it would never be better than Halo, but I was wrong. This game was worth every penny I spent on it. Other Tom Clancy games are cool too. Ghost Recon was good, but Splinter Cell was better all around except sound. Splinter Cell's gameplay was the best of all. The dark shadows and corners were great. The only dissapointment was the interact button. Sometimes, I was really far with no save point and I got caught and had restart because of death. The sneaking was awesome. You can hide in shadows about an inch away from a guard and not be seen. The fun factor for this game in my opinion was a 9.9 and 3/4. The only thing was sound, which was still good, and the stupid armored cameras. You can't break them, even with a shot in the glass framing. But anyway, if you don't like this game, you are probably dead or in a coma. I don't know anyone who dislikes this game. You are crazy if you hate it. I recomend this game to everyone. It is the best game for Xbox out there. Xbox Rules, Baby! And what's this about a Splinter Cell 2? Hmm...
| this game is bad @$$ | | Ed from aiea, hi USA says (12/Dec/2003): | to everyone...this game is so bad, i got a warning at work for being late. cant sleep with this game. this game is very addictive and i think they should ban it. best addictive game ever. I cant think of any other game that would compare to this right now. if you are talking about rpg with strategy and you have to use your brain and find out what you need to do...this is the game for you. do not use any books or cheats though, it will take away the fun of it. fun of it is when you cant find out what you have to do coz all you think about is how to finish that level. TIP: be very patient and think of something you can do and not what would you do. I thought when metal Gear Solid came out..it was really good, then the 2nd one came out and its the best one again. then this came out..best one again...then others came out....still SPLINTER CELL....then other came out.....still SPLINTER CELL....you know i could pass to be an advertiser for UBISOFT. Maybe they can give me a job there. to tryout splinter cell games. or even all tom clancy games. i promise i wont be late. GREAT GAME!!!
| Nine-point-five | | doc3osh from Austin, TX says (15/Jan/2003): | This game is fantastic-- the only game to rival Halo on Xbox. The fine details-- lighting, sounds, curtains that swirl around your body-- are completely immersive. The night vision and infrared are done better than I've ever seen. As for the complaint that you don't have enough ammo... that's the POINT, you boneheads!! How many more FPS's do we need???? This is NOT a typical shooter-- it's a chance to actually use your brain in a game (don't hurt yourselves, now...) instead of just your reflexes.
I will agree with two complaints-- the one thing that really bugged me was the distance between save points sometimes. On the one hand, it did force me to rethink certain situations, but what really killed me was that the scripted dialogue had to be repeated each time you redid the scene. (FWD COMM helps in conversations, but definitely not in all scenes.)
The other thing was that he sort of floats above stairs when descending. But, god, what a trivial complaint in such a phenomenal game.
As for the controls, I thought they were brilliant-- the camera in particular was virtually perfect.
| Best game since ages | | Alex from Wolfurt, Austria says (28/Mar/2003): | I have to say Splinter Cell is the best game since ages.
I have played MGS and MGS 2 as well but i have to say concerning to the Story I am more interested in the story of Splinter Cell (more realistic).
Look at MGS 2. Ok, cool graphics, cool moves and cool weapons. BUT: The Story is very confusing at times and too much mangalike.
Splinter Cell has the cool Tom Clancy - Espionage Thriller ambiente and you can relate more to Sam Fisher, than to Solid Snake or Raiden.
The graphics of Splinter Cell are according to lighteffects and movements of curtains etc. very good, the sound effects are great and the music gives you a nice adrenaline kick if you do something wrong.
If you set off an alarm, there come some guards and if you kill them they come not endlessly like in MGS :-).
The voice actors are great (Michael Ironside as Fisher), and the conversations between your enemys are interesting and funny.
The animations are great eg. Sam hanging between walls, rolling, the interrogation mode etc.
I hope there will be more games like Splinter Cell in the Future.
| I got it by mistake! | | Nikki Soulounias from Athens, Greece says (21/Jan/2004): | A week ago, i went to a friends house, just to borrow "Beyond Good And Evil". I took the cds, but when i finally got home, i realised that i borrowed "Splinter Cell" instead of "Beyond". Well, this game ROCKS! I'm an RPG fan, but when i started`playing Splinter, i forgot all my beloved RPGs on my bookself. The game has stunning action, and the reason i loved it, is that it's not a mindless shoot'em up but you have to think (sometimes hard) to go to the next "step". Yesterday my friend called me, asking back his cds. The answer was "No way! I'm playing Splinter right now!" Well, i can imagine his dissapointment when he realised that the game was missing from his desk... That was a beautiful mistake, and i discovered that i really like action games if they have the quality of Splinter. THIS IS A MUST BUY! AND DONT TRY TO USE CHEAT CODES OR TRAINERS OR ANYTHING ELSE, CAUSE YOU'LL LOSE ALL THE MAGIC! SQUEEZE YOUR BRAIN AND ACT WISELY. I still prefer RPGs, but when it comes to action/strategy games this is the one i would consider the best of it's kind.
| A real Gamers game | | N8dogg925 from Fort Campbell, KY. USA! says (15/Dec/2002): | All in all, this may very well be the greatest game ever produced. Superb graphics and attention to detail. Words just dont do them justice. The sounds are just as good, from the score to the footfalls of a gaurd walking up a corridor to your hiding spot, the sound effects are what really pull you into the game and set the mood. Controlling all of Sam's various moves is a breeze. Its easy to sneak, climb and rappell your way through the levels. Yes, this game is difficult. You're not gonna blow though it in an afternoon (unlinke Halo, which I think I could toast with my eyes shut by now). But it's not a frustrating type of challenge. Every time you fail at something the first thing you wanna do is rethink your stradegy and get back to the game. I havent found any cheesiness yet. If you like the mindless, thumb numbing fragfests that have infested systems across the board, this game isn't for you. If you like a thinking, challenging game that will pull you into it's covert world, don't hesitate to pick this up. You wont be dissapointed.
| What's realizism? Splinter Cell? | | A gamer from Dresden,Ohio says (18/Apr/2004): | Splinter Cell, real darn cool. The fact that you stalk in the shadows just to shoot people is heart pounding! The game uses sight, sound, and light just to give you the advantages! So what if it's a little bit hard. Anyone can get the hang of it,especially if you're trigger happy. The SC-20K shoots sticky cameras, distraction cameras, sticky shockers, and best of all, bullets.Shoot the lights out, stand two inches from someone, and blow their brains out.The levels are designed well, they've made Pandora Tomorrow.(Splinter Cell 2). things don't get any more real! However, it's a wonder how Sam hangs onto pipes so long without falling. The goggles come in handy too. night and thermal vision really helps in foggy and dark places. You can even download levels on the internet!Don't ask me where. It's no wonder it got a 9.6 on the cover of the case!Even has a near future setting, a navy seals prototype outfit with the time setting.Crouching, gadgets, and guns, just means that you have to save the United States before Nikoladze blows it up.No pressure, no pressure at all...
| Spliner Cell best game since GTA:VC | | Justin from Simpsonville, South Carolina says (18/May/2003): | Splinter Cell took me by storm. I thought it would be another XBOX ripoff but this game is beautiful. The story is good and it takes place in a time that could really happen soon. I liked this game because it makes you feel like a secret agent and it is a better alternative to James Bond games. The graphics are the best ever for the PS2 and the light thing stuns me. Just the seeping quality makes me want to play it more. I rate this game a 10 for many reasons:graphics are stunning
excellent controls(wait, there are too many to count)I have not completed this game because it is challenging. the realism is there, for example in mission 4 when you get into the oil pipe. you cant see that good in night vision because it is sealed and dark. the news breaks can be funny, if you read the blue screen at the bottom. This game is my new "MVP" and i never thought a game would be better that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Well, Splinter Cell proved myself and many others wrong. i am glad it came to the ps2. Its a excellent game and deserves game of the year.
| Great Game | | Tyler from Nevada, US says (26/Jun/2003): | I think that Splinter Cell is an awesome game. It has some of It has the best graphics I have ever seen, well XBOX is the best. It is one of the first great stealth games. I love all the weapons and gadgets, especially the sticky cam. Two things that I didn't like most was when your hiding in the shadows and an enemy goes by couldn't he see the light emitting from your goggles and radio on your back, plus I thought there weren't enough levels, it seemed like once you got the SC-20K, which I was anticipating most, the game was over. The statement that you don't get enough ammo is incorrect because between your two guns you have 100 shots and you only need 1 to kill someone, plus they give you a whole bunch of 5.56mm ammo.I loved how you can see individual strands of light like through open blinds or an air vent. The story line was pretty cool. I liked how it made you feel like you actually were Sam and were actually sneaking around. The music made it more realistic, because they played authentic Georgian music.I would recommend it to everyone.
| I love the voice of Sam Fisher | | Arthur Seabra from Philadelphia, Pa USA says (6/Dec/2002): | The game is great. Like everyone agrees the graphics are imaculate. The light and shadow being the key thing for the game the designers and producers really put in time and effort into making it look as realistic as you can without it actually being real. The NPC (non-playeble character's) Ai is the best i've seen yet. An example being in a scenario where I turned off the light in the freezer of some kitchen; right before you have to laser-mic the elevator, after throwing a bottle into the freezer one of the cooks came to investigate and asked why the light was off, he then walks under the light itself and starts investigating the light bulb and such. Another great aspect of this game is the Voice of the Character Sam Fisher played by Michael Ironrock or Ironstone im not sure(he was the bad guy in "Free Willy") His tone of voice is a perfect match for the character. Not too scary and not too whimpy. Just enough to portray Sam's light but dark sense of humor.
Overall this is upthere amongst best games for the newer systems.
| It's the best game ever!! | | Cole J. from Louisiana, USA says (5/Mar/2003): | This game gives stealth a whole new level! I agree with most people this game makes you think, and look through the level a few times for medkits and ammo, the gun is a last resort!! I never run out of ammo since I knock most of them out by sneaking up on people. Listening to the people talking to each other can sometimes be hilarious! They sing whistle talk about their family. You can set up cameras, and put up wall mines and see the people fly! When the people see you then you hid, they say "oly, oly, oxyen free" and "Come out and die" and [to his buddies]"He's over here". You also have to hide the bodies or they will find them and pull the alarm, then you will have to hide. You also have to defuse bomb and or wall mines in some missions. There are fifteen super realistic missions and you can download new ones from X-Box Live. I give this game a ten and if I could I'd give it a 10,000,000! The graphics are 10, game play the 10, and sound is 10 the best I've heard, Concept 9.9, Difficulty is medium. Overall AWSOME!!!!!
| Close to perfection!!!@#$ | | Sam Fisher from Lowell, MA, USA says (25/Nov/2002): | I just bought SC yesterday, and If I wasn't at work right now.. I'm sure I'd be sucking down some beers and playing this game for hours. I got to play for a bit after I bought it, and .. I must say the graphics are definately the best I've *EVER* seen in a game, I love the way anything soft actually moves depending on how you are interacting with it, ie: curtains move with your body if you walk through them etc. etc.. Its like nothing I've seen, I never write reviews for games but .. this game deserves the time. I'm only on the 2nd mission, and let me tell you.. it wasn't easy getting there even with the strategy guide. The game is very tricky, you definately won't get far just running around trying to shoot every person that you see. Stealth is definately necessary. I have nothing bad to say about this game, other then the loading times are a bit long, and for some reason it seems to lock up on me for awhile in certain parts of the game. Hopefully my XBOX is ok, its too expensive to break! anyways.. GO BUY THIS GAME!!
| One of the best games ever. | | A gamer from Seattle Washington, Usa says (21/Feb/2003): | Oh man Tom Clancy has done the best game I have ever seen yet. The graphics nearly look real and the lighting is amazing. The shadows look nearly real and yes you can blow out lights to avoid detection but I will explain that more when i talk about
the gameplay. The sound is very lifelike and outragous. This is very diffrent for you Metal gear soild fans so if you think you can beat this easy because you beat all of that series your wrong. It is way diffrent because guards react to how much sound you make, shadows, light and will react quick if they see you. When you first start you will probley just like coming behind guards and giving them "the buisness" yet you will find its much more easy to use the lights to your advantage. Don't think theres not enought ammo this game is more stealth then kill
everyone and run. Sadly this game isn't long enough or at least I think. About 5 to 10 days and you will conquer this game. But don't think it's a bad game. Even if your not a fan of stealth tactics games pick this up.
| totally cool | | A gamer from charlwood, surrey, england says (13/Dec/2004): | i got this game almost a year ago and it rocks. every thing about is cool. best stealth game since metal gear, and amazing graphics!
the only flaws are the guards are sometimes a bit blind. in mean would you think it was werid if you saw a pair of green lights floating in the dark?
the grapics are so amazing and sharp. the first time i played i thought wicked. it was a hard game at first and you soon discover you should avoid gunfights and work on sleath. another flaw is hardly any guns. you only get a pistol and a rifle. need of guns! i was at it for at least 4 months before i fanally finished. the ending is ace. sound is just as cool as grapics and every single sound is included.
foes aint dumb either and will investiage or pull an alarm if they think something is up. more than 8 times i walked around the door and heard a pair of officers having a chat. foes are all unique, from cops, to chinese guards, the cia, russians and spiceal forces commandos.
this game is really great!!!
buy now. you won't regret it.
| wow, this game blew me away, better have beaten halo! | | jason from edmonton alberta, canada says (22/Feb/2003): | wow, these graphics and environments for this game were unreal,i couldnt stop playing till i got 1 level ahead.it captivates you till you cant keep your eyes open any more.I belive this game should be the game of the year due to its stratigic gameplay and awesome animations.it almost looks real ,at first i couldnt tell the difference between real news and the news on the game, with all the stock prices and all.unbelievably crazy, well im suposed to fit in 200 words here so,well keep goin.i just cant believe this game.it blew me away.it better have a soundtrack come out sooner or later, they did that with the grand theft auto game, but that just blew kuz all the music from the eighties sucks except rock and roll.so ya this sound track would be a big hit. with crystal meathod and all.good stuff ubisoft. Continue to make games this good please,we all need a bit more tom clancy in this world, and if youve never played any tom clancy game, you are deprived. thats all i have to say ,thank you vry much, the game rocks
| Bring the party to your house! | | Gue, Travis from Ft. Hood TX says (9/Dec/2002): | I am a soldier of the United States Army. The game alone has at least ten soldiers watching me play it for hours in the barracks. The realism of the game is by far the best out in the market today. The graphics(flat screen tv) is enough to not only play it but sit down for hours and watch it. The sound( dolby digital )makes you apart of its world. When I play this game it is so realistic, I almost feel as if it is me saving the world. The planet is now a safer place. I am a hard core, < remove me > at #&%! kicking Halo freak. Halo has nothing on Splinter Cell. I used to twiddle my thumbs every day for the day when Halo 2 came out. Now I can only dream of the day wben Splinter Cell 2 comes out. The game is challenging if your are weak. You have to, and must think, like a NSA agent. The best of the best. Playing a Rambo role will get you nowhere. "Winning 115 wars and no defeat is nothing, winning one war and not even fight, is the absolute truth in winning." Can you handle it?
| THIS GAME IS FREAKIN HARD BUT SO MUCH FREAKIN FUN! | | Annie from USA says (25/Sep/2004): | This game rocks. Its really hard but it becomes easy after awhile. it tales a while and thats wut is cool. No 1 wants a game they can beat in 1 day. That takes the fun out of everything and a waste of moolah. A lot of ppl might think i dont know squat cuz im a girl and ppl think that girls dont play video games BUT... i know this game and u should defenently buy it. Or u SUCK monkeys butt!!! You get training so u can get tha hang of it before u do tha missions. I would of had troblue with tha missions but the training helps s lot. And if u still need help u can go to www.slpintercell.com. The game is very very sneaky and u need to stay quiet. If not u get shot and die. OH MY GOODNESS!!! I died sooooo many times even though i am 10% through it. But u learn from your mistakes and the game gets better. This game rocks my socks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You stay hooked 4 hours cuz its like there r locks on ur eyes 2 the tv.
Buy this game or once again u suck monkeys butt!
