Whoa!!!! | | Eric from South Carolina, USA says (8/Mar/2003): | Splinter Cell kicks ass! The graphics are awsome. I wonder how they made this game's graphics so perfect, yet other game designers make their graphics look like $#< remove me > at !! The sound in SC is great. The cans, the bottles, the glass, the guns, and the people sound as real as can be. Everybody who's played the game has given it an awsome score, yet there are these few people who give it a 4! The gameplay is fantastic. I can't stand those games that give you so much health you can't die. You get just the perfect amount of health for this game. The enemies are pretty decent themselves. Everybody has the perfect amount of health. The guns are superb. They make other game's weapons look like sticks! They make excellent sound when you shoot them too. It's good that finally there's a game that lets you interact with objects. It makes me think somebody actually tried to make a decent game, unlike other games. And I like the fact SC has no cheats. I hate the little cheap asses who use cheats on games! It takes the fun out of the game. This game is extremely fun when you don't use use guides or get hints. And i'll bet that the people who gave SC a bad score probaly used guides or found hints off of the computer. This is an all around fun game that everyone will enjoy. If you are looking for a good game game, I recomend Splinter Cell all the way!
| Cool graphics, too hard | | anon. from Houston, TX USA says (8/Mar/2003): | the graphics and sounds are phenominal. But it's a shame that the guards have supersonic hearing and the alarms are set off by the smallest mistake. In my opinion, there needs to be an EASY level in this game because some of the levels were too hard and I ended up spending several hours on one check point. What was especially sucky was when time limits were set. It already sucks enough that you spend most of your time waiting during play in this game. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack several times just trying to get to the next check point. That made me say that this game is a shame b/c the graphics rock, but actually playing it sucks!!!
| Almost a perfect game but one thing missing... | | Christopher Fultz from Eugene OR USA says (8/Mar/2003): | I loved the game and wish I could give it a ten. The graphics and gameplay are stunning, but I can't concider a game without muili player perfect. I don't see it as a feature the game needs because it would not suit the game, but that is the only thing that they don't have. And the game shines, and the graphics, again, are amazing. Best graphics hands down. All I got to say is they better make a sequal, because this is a truly unique and awsome game. I would not think twice before buying the sequal. And for the guy who gave this a 1, what is wrong with you. If it wasn't challenging it would suck. For the sequal the only recomendation is more levels. Mabey muiltiple campaigns, and possibly a few more varietys of wepons. But over all, keep up the good work.
| Elite and groundbreaking | | A gamer from Delray Beach, FL says (7/Mar/2003): | Just amazing - Im on mission 8 and it gets better and better. For those who vote it down because you "dont get enough ammo" you have COMPLETELY missed the point of the game. Be realistic - if you were infiltrating the CIA Headquarters, QUIETLY, would you do so guns blazing? Go play Unreal Championship if you want enough ammo. Your brain is simply too small to understand the nuance, the direction, the scope of this game. That being said, I DO have a few points to pick at - not saving where you like sucks, I wish you could put on a soldier's uniform after you knock him out, the controls get really kludgy in heat of battle (the end of the hostage scene took me an hour cause I kept wanting to switch weapons faster than they could run and I died over and over and over lol). The dialogue is dead on, the cinematography is amazing, and the story line is flawless. Throw in DLs in the near future and I'll be handing this one down to my grandkids.
| It's the best game ever!! | | Cole J. from Louisiana, USA says (5/Mar/2003): | This game gives stealth a whole new level! I agree with most people this game makes you think, and look through the level a few times for medkits and ammo, the gun is a last resort!! I never run out of ammo since I knock most of them out by sneaking up on people. Listening to the people talking to each other can sometimes be hilarious! They sing whistle talk about their family. You can set up cameras, and put up wall mines and see the people fly! When the people see you then you hid, they say "oly, oly, oxyen free" and "Come out and die" and [to his buddies]"He's over here". You also have to hide the bodies or they will find them and pull the alarm, then you will have to hide. You also have to defuse bomb and or wall mines in some missions. There are fifteen super realistic missions and you can download new ones from X-Box Live. I give this game a ten and if I could I'd give it a 10,000,000! The graphics are 10, game play the 10, and sound is 10 the best I've heard, Concept 9.9, Difficulty is medium. Overall AWSOME!!!!!
| Splinter Cell has NOTHING on Metal Gear. | | Lan Di from Toronto says (5/Mar/2003): | There are many characteristics to a great game: an involving storyline, solid gameplay, good entertainment value, and it should always leave you with something to think about after it's all said and done. Games like Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Shenmue 2 all fit the above. Splinter Cell does not. Let's discuss why.
First of all, Splinter Cell has a bad story, scratch that, it has a horrible story that doesn't move forward until you're three missions away from beating it. It's classic Tom Clancy trash, the world is about to enter World War 3 and for some reason the US government finds it appropriate to send in only one operative to take everyone on. Enter Sam Fisher. A man who has no character, and apparantly no brain. He does whatever his government tells him to do while given almost no information on what's going on; even when his daughter's life is supposedly on the line.
Never before has a game left me so detatched from the characters. Nothing is ever explained about them and when some of them die, you feel nothing. Some of this is due to the incredibly bad script, but it's mainly because of the cutscenes. In MGS2 we got cutscenes with dynamic special effects and hollywood-quality cinematography; suffice to say SC does not fare as well.
This is a shame because it's clear that SC can deliver graphically. The real-time shadows are really impressive as is alot of the texture work, but the character models and animation are no where near the quality of MGS2's protagonists. Even so, SC is one of the most graphically impressive titles in a while.
It's too bad the gameplay doesn't match the high-quality visuals. All you ever do in this game is wait. It's incredibly boring to just wait in the shadows for guards to finish their patrols until you can move. And when you do move, it's at a snail's pace because all the guards have hypersonic ears and will automatically pull their gun on an empty pop can that tipped over. And shooting these guys is out of the question most of the time. If I have so many damn freedoms, let me use them! Even when you do try to shoot at them, you miss half the time because although Sam is a highly trained elite commando, he can't cap a guy two feet in front of him.
I'm a big fan of the stealth action genre. I like Theif, MGS, and Deus Ex, but all SC is, is an exercise in tedium. There are a few new moves that Sam has, but it all feels too much like Metal Gear, only zero effort was put in.
The game's sound is decent. The music is crap but the sound effects are pretty nice in 5.1 surround. Everything makes a realistic sound, but it's nothing to write home about.
Overall I'd reccommend Metal Gear Solid 2 over SC any day. This game does not deserve ANY of the attention it gets, especially when a game like SHENMUE 2 was released the same time. Pick it up only if you've beaten MGS2, otherwise you're cheating yourself.
| Best Role-Playing Game Ever | | Bryan from Corpus Christi, TX USA says (4/Mar/2003): | The features are stunning. Whereas most games would automatically do things for you (pick locks, enter access codes, etc.) this one allows you to do it yourself, further enhancing the gameplayer experience and getting the gamer more involved. Only problem I have is I can't seem to keep bullets as long as I need them. I rented it, not sure if I'll buy it yet. I've already got mad at the game (for not giving enough bullets) and yelled obsceneties at it, although that won't stop me from playing it. I don't like the whole "stealth" idea; I like shooting everyone and everything, which is probably why I keep running out of bullets. Anyway, Halo, Max Payne, Metal Gear Solid... Splinter Cell is on a whole different level, therefore can't even be compared to other games. This is Xbox at it's best!
| A Must Have | | Arnold from San Antonio says (3/Mar/2003): | Well, the game is obviously a graphical masterpiece, and the sound is awesome. Some of the terms used might be a bit technical but it gives you the full expierience of the stealth operation. I like the fact that the game makes you work at things like picking locks, which is usually something taken for granted in other games. This game is great and very life like, you are human and not an invincible one man army with infinite health and health. I think this game is a must have for any Xbox owner.
| Holy crap! | | Simon from stockholm, Sweden says (2/Mar/2003): | This game is going to be in the history books!.
I could'nt believe what I were seeing when I saw the guy that gave it a 1. He must be joking, how can anyone not like this game?
There really is very few bad things about Splinter cell, I wish there will be a second one.
The lightning effects are stunning, and the sound! Man, the sound is awesome. The first mission, the practise is really showing you how to control the character. There is no training in firearms, but it's pretty obvious how to use them.
This game kicks Metal gear solids ass! big time!
The ONLY bad thing is that the missions are not different every time you play. There is only one way to finish the missions, so there is a very small amount of player creativity.
But don't let that bother you.
There are so many goods things about this game, so it worth buying an X-box if you don't have one already.
This will make you sit in front of your tv for hours.
three final words: BUY THIS GAME!
| THE BEST THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED | | Spencer Nelson from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA says (1/Mar/2003): | This game was one of the first games I recieved for my XBox, I recieved it as a gift and have never let it go. I have found that this game is a little confusing for me at least, just because I don't have anything to help me out or anyway to find maps, which is I would think the whole purpose of the game.
I enjoy the challenge that the game gives me, even when I do spend the amount of HOURS playing.
I do rate this game as the top best, and not one of, but the BEST!!!!!
| This game is off the heezy! | | Fish Hummel from Rockwall, Texas U.S.A says (28/Feb/2003): | Tom Clancy is a pure genious. He puts basically all of the aspects that everyone wants in a game into this one. It's tight because the A.I. is so aware of everything that you do, the gameplay is so suspenseful, especially in the library on the last level. One nice touch by Clancy is, the curtains and blinds that move when you walk/run through them. Also the fact that you have to use all of the buttons and control every motion that Fisher has is awesome. One more thing, Splinter Cell for PS2, doesn't even compare to the one for Xbox. That is why this one is a definite 10.
| Best Graphics, Yes. Best Game ever??? No. | | MilchKov from Houston, Texas says (27/Feb/2003): | This is a good game, anf although the graphics are awesome, graphics dont make the game, gameplay makes the game. Overall, gameplay is pretty good with only a couple of problems i've noticed so far.
1)First, which has already been said is the streamlining of missions. You have to do everything in the exact same order in the exact same place and it basically just turns into a game of try and fail once you figure it out.(ie. Go up elevator, explodes, die. go through roof of elevator, wall mine blows up, die. Go thruogh roof, disable mine, go out door, get shot, die. It really just turns into trial and error until you get it and move on to next savepoint.)
2)Opening doors. The animation for opening a door is always the same. This is not the bad part, the bad part is that when you open the door, you're standing right in the middle of the doorway and usually get blasted with the quickness. Opening stealth lets you see through, but you're still right there when the door opens. You need to be able to open a door from the side, not exposing yourself to who/whatever is inside.
3)Leaning. Almost all the other Clancy games had a lean button, why not this one?? You cant lean across all corridors with your back against the wall. This would be extremely helpful on certain parts, like doorways, killing Grinko, etc.
Overall this is a pretty good game, except for the flaws I pointed out. This would get onto my top 10-20 list for sure, but not the bestgame I ever played. Best Graphics, Yes. Best Game ever??? No.
| Best Tom Clancy game yet | | Dusty McGraw from Foley, MO USA says (24/Feb/2003): | I play a lot of Clancy games but this one is truly amazing. That guy that gave it a one out of ten must be a first time gamer and not really good yet because i always had ammo left at the end of the level. This game has the best graphics of Clancy game too. I have never seen any thing like it. It's almost like watching a movie. I was truly amazed at this game.
| wow, this game blew me away, better have beaten halo! | | jason from edmonton alberta, canada says (22/Feb/2003): | wow, these graphics and environments for this game were unreal,i couldnt stop playing till i got 1 level ahead.it captivates you till you cant keep your eyes open any more.I belive this game should be the game of the year due to its stratigic gameplay and awesome animations.it almost looks real ,at first i couldnt tell the difference between real news and the news on the game, with all the stock prices and all.unbelievably crazy, well im suposed to fit in 200 words here so,well keep goin.i just cant believe this game.it blew me away.it better have a soundtrack come out sooner or later, they did that with the grand theft auto game, but that just blew kuz all the music from the eighties sucks except rock and roll.so ya this sound track would be a big hit. with crystal meathod and all.good stuff ubisoft. Continue to make games this good please,we all need a bit more tom clancy in this world, and if youve never played any tom clancy game, you are deprived. thats all i have to say ,thank you vry much, the game rocks
| One of the best games ever. | | A gamer from Seattle Washington, Usa says (21/Feb/2003): | Oh man Tom Clancy has done the best game I have ever seen yet. The graphics nearly look real and the lighting is amazing. The shadows look nearly real and yes you can blow out lights to avoid detection but I will explain that more when i talk about
the gameplay. The sound is very lifelike and outragous. This is very diffrent for you Metal gear soild fans so if you think you can beat this easy because you beat all of that series your wrong. It is way diffrent because guards react to how much sound you make, shadows, light and will react quick if they see you. When you first start you will probley just like coming behind guards and giving them "the buisness" yet you will find its much more easy to use the lights to your advantage. Don't think theres not enought ammo this game is more stealth then kill
everyone and run. Sadly this game isn't long enough or at least I think. About 5 to 10 days and you will conquer this game. But don't think it's a bad game. Even if your not a fan of stealth tactics games pick this up.
| Best god damn game ever | | A gamer from Falls Church says (19/Feb/2003): | I've been waiting for a game like this for a long time. its amazing, finially not one of those shootum up games with no purpouse and just gets boring. its fun, amazing graphics (actaul characters and movement in the clothing and not the same two guys over and over again) amazingly realistic for what it is and chalenging. smater a fact its more where you try not to kill people and try to get through the game with as little fatalities as possible. its a realist covert infultration game. its as much fun and even a match for halo
| The Best Game In history | | Joe tanner from God Coast QLD Australia says (14/Feb/2003): | This game is the best game I have ever played on any console. The best thing about this game is that it is very life-like and challenging. At first i found it a little hard, and as the game progressed it became more fun by the stage. The weapons are great and I think this game is a brilliant idea, the creaters should extremely proud of themselves and i don't think you will find a more exiting game. 10 Out of 10, absolutely magnificent a work of art.
| IMENSE | | grant from wales says (13/Feb/2003): | This game was the best EVER created. It was the reason i finally bought an XBox, as i was one of the 'ps2 rules' idiots out-there. Sam beats Snake hands down, the story was superb, graphics were even better and the realism and in depth detail of the game were beyond any other consoles dreams, this even beats the P.C. graphics. The gameplay was excellent and i had to sit by my TV and finish the game as soon as i started playing it....it was like an addiction.. My life is incomplete until another Tom Clancy game is released, or even better Splinter Cell 2. There was only one disadvantage with the game and that is the lack of 'add on' mission packs that can be purchased- com on microsoft- twist ubi softs arm and get them to release sum...until then hope u release sum great titles like this....
| Splinter Cell is off the hook. | | StealthCell from Nashville, TN USA says (10/Feb/2003): | Splinter Cell is by far the most kick ass game I have ever played. It gives you the feeling of being a real agent. When you turn your XBOX on and start playing your game you feel like you're in it. I mean you forget about it being a game and you are so absorbed by it. The graphics are great. Let's get realistic, everything about this game is kick ass. Yeah, it might seem like it takes forever to get through the levels or the whole game, but that's what you get when you're playing as a stealthy Navy Seal looking charachter. You have to watch out and be careful of where you step. Sure it might not have bullet time but it more than makes up for it. I gave this game a big ten out of ten.
| splinter cell is the worst game i ever played | | LeROY from Portland USA Oregon says (9/Feb/2003): | splinter cell is the worst game, why you ask because you dont get enough ammo for the game. Sure you can find some but even the ammo you find still dont give you enough. By the end of the level you have no ammo left. Know i what you guys are saying well i just suck at this game. Well if i buy i game i beat it even if i dont like it. And i done just that. Sure the game has cool grapics. But grapics can make a game tight, so all you gamers out there saying this is a outraged what im saying well its because you no how bad this game sucks. And it just not the ammo that sucks. For example on CIA headquarters you could not even use a gun come on know you got to be kiddin me. Anouther reason why the game sucks is you can only save the game if you get to a cheak point come on now. You peaple all know this game sucks.so this game gets a 1 if i could i would give it a BIG FAT 0
