The game they coudn't hide. |
| Matthew Grint 'Krastor' from Kent,England says (29/Dec/2002): |
Although this game is about stealh,it's release was hardly hidden, this game was wanted months before it was out, imgaine all the lists to santa with Splinter Cell on. I love this game, despite it's technical flaws, yhe gameplay is enjoyable and exciting, if one thing could be improved, it would be the range of weaponry availably, you cannot pick up weapons off dead guards, okay, maybe they want you to use the proper stealth gun, that you should use, you cannot pick up ammo off dead guards, okay, most likely it's the wrong type of ammo, but the fact that you don't have a knife? What is more stealthy than a knife? what is more silent and deadly, what is an agent without a melee weapon? surely it's stealthy to snaek up behind someone and slit their throat. In reply to the review which says you cant attack people without ammo, you can, go up to them and press right trigger to hit them, or 'a' and then right trigger, they both work. Overall i like this game, and i hope there is a sequel which improves on thios main fault. Thank you for reading this, if you did, most likely you just read the first few words, didn't you, didn't you! C ya!

About the Ending and more |
| Pedro from Ventura, Ca says (29/Dec/2002): |
I've heard (read) several people complain about the ending, but think about it... if there are going to be more levels to d/l how can it end now. It must go on.
As far as the rest of the game goes, I like it. Yea there are a couple of annoying things. I'd like to be able to pick up ammo from the people I kill. I sure would in real life. Accuracy of Sam's Firearms could be vastly improved. Shooting out lights can be a real pain in the ass. Sometimes it takes 1 shot others times it takes 7 or 8, even if you are absolutly sure you are aiming in the same place. Clipping could be improved but it is not really annoying when someones arm drifts through a wall just not realistic. All in all I have to rate Splinter cell high. I much prefer a stealth game to one where all you have to do is go in with guns blazin and kill everything in sight. You have to think a little more and that is the challenge.

This game rocks |
| A gamer from USA says (29/Dec/2002): |
This game is the best. It was the first gmae I got for Xbox but I have have played many others and this stands out the most.It has awesome graphics, great storyline and nice gear. I admit it is pretty hard. Usually the alarms go off every second, but thatss just a skill I need to work on. Also this is like real life. In most shooting/action games the bodies just disappear and are forgotten. In real life they aren't going to disappear and people ARE going to find them. Thats what I like about this game, its realistic.Last the moves and techniques are cool, cutting edge and are fun to use. You have to buy this game.

Kris you need skills |
| Nick from Denver CO Usa says (29/Dec/2002): |
This is to Kris who says that it takes him 4 or 5 shots in the head to kill a guard I go fro the neck and it takes me 1 and when you said I cant get a guard without his buddies noticing I just started playing this game christmas so If you think its hard then maybe you shouldnt play it because it takes me 1 shot and I can easily get out of a room full of guards holding one guard hostage without them seeing me............so my advice is keep trying or stop playing.

La Bomba |
| Camille from Montreal, Quebec says (30/Dec/2002): |
I found one problem in my cd, a bug of somesort, in the CIA HQ I can't get passed the hallway behind the support battery room, without trigering an alarm, which finishes my mission, making it impossible for me to continue my game, please help me, tell me if its me or the cd! but the game itself is very good, very smooth, challenging, but very very fun, if you liked metal gear solid youl love this game

Its good but can be better.......... |
| Ryan from usa says (30/Dec/2002): |
Splinter cell is good i'll give u that but seriously u get like 40 bullets for like 4 levels and when u kill the guards u get nothing from them. Also the alarms go off unless u hide, every single guard u killed and put them in the shadow or dark place. Lets just say that halo is a little better..........

Very Impressed |
| Krazy Kelso from Kent, OH says (31/Dec/2002): |
I can only find two minor flaws in the game. One, the game is very linear. For the most part I found the provided maps worthless because you are forced to head to your assigned target anyway. Usually there is only one route to the target and no possible way to get lost. In the Police Station for instance, I was trying to use the map to see my location and destination and foound that I was forced to go there anyway.
The second problem is Sam's inablility to improvise weapons. I frequently run out of ammo no matter how much I try to conserve (I'm not terribly good at sneaky, or taking snap shots for that matter), and when you are popping in and out of the shadows slapping guards with assault rifles unconsious I begin longing for Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six where you have a substantial weapon and plenty of ammo. At least it would be nice to comandeer weapons from guards who don't need them anymore.
Other than that, a spectacular game. I'd say that Splinter Cell's the first person game is slightly better than Halo (because I like sneaking. It's compleately a subjective oppinion.) But without any multiplayer to speak of I'm not about to sell my copy of the later.

Good but room for improvement |
| Joe from California says (31/Dec/2002): |
it's not the gliches that bother me, it's the lack of cheats, i wish they would add some god mode cheat to it and give you some teammates to command, also some freelance training execises wouldn't hurt either not ones guided in the begining.

One Word Incredible!!! |
| Defender from Glendale Wisconsin US says (31/Dec/2002): |
Just when I was about to pitch my xbox out the window. Here comes the most stunning game I've ever seen. If someone’s looking to see what the xbox system can do this is your game. Unlike the typical James Bond games where u run into a room and blast everything in site (not like there’s nothing wrong with a game like that it just gets kind of old after a while) Splinter Cell is about stealth. Not only does it look good, but it acts like in real life too. You shoot a stunner in water with a group of guards standing in it they all fall to their knees. I don't know how many of you heard of the game traitors gate, but it's very close to it. This is one of those games that u must think before u act. As for them making a sequel after they see how much people love this game (this forum for example) I'm 100% sure they'll make a sequel.

Splinter Cell Sneaks up on the Competition |
| Josh Schafernak from Mundelien, ILL., USA says (31/Dec/2002): |
I, (as well as many others,) had high exspectations for this game. It is definately one of the top graphically advanced games ever made. (as a matter a fact all the models were made by hand to increase lifelikeness.) But does this game live up to its hype? I think so!! The lighting effects are flawless. You will find yourself shooting out lights to sneak through a room, to get behind an enemy undetected and knock him out. Another plus is the good voiceovers. When you have the Tom Clancy Logo on something the plot better be good. I like the effective abilities, and just the game play itself. There are many special features, and you can download more levels on Xbox live. This is very entertaining, but it needs some touch ups in a few key areas.
The only problem with the game, is headshots dont always connect, and some linear gameplay. Also their isn't enough ammo to go around. They should take a lesson from the Upcoming Zelda game for gamecube and allow you to take the enemys wepons. And finally, I love this game, but don't exspect it to blow the already exsisting Metal Gear Solid Game series.

Beat it! |
| m says (1/Jan/2003): |
I finally beat this game! This is probably the hardest game i have ever played, as far as shooters go. Wow that last level was tough. Awsome realism and use with light and shodows. I know im sick of cheap ass games coming out on the box with bad graphics, finally this game does it justice. Metal solid doesn't have anything on Splinter cell. I would have liked to know that if you hold the L trigger while zooming in, the shot becomes still. I just read that after i beat the game. Go buy it if you dont have it yet.

IM A CREEP |
| michael edwards from liverpool says (1/Jan/2003): |
cos creepings what this game is all about, small but annoying flaws need to be rectified in the follow up to this title, namely not being able to commendere the gaurds weapons (why do they hold onto them when their unconscious?) and lack of james bond style gadgets, i suppose this is to force you into all that creeping around stuff, but i do enough creeping around my own house so come on next game gizmos gadgets and a bloody great rocket launcher please!!
|
A great game that needs a sequel!!! |
| Joshua Lipford from Burton MI, 48529, USA says (1/Jan/2003): |
I have beaten the game already but still go back and play different levels. You can challenge your self by using all stealth or trying to sneak past guards without shooting them. It isnt as fun after you beat it when you go backand play. I hear there is going to be a sequel and I cant wait. This is a spectacular game that none can rival. I dont know why you guys think its hard to save ammo. Stealth is the name of the game not shooting everything 20 times.

Not Enough Blood |
| alex ward from San Antonio, Texas says (1/Jan/2003): |
I know they had to keep it rated "T" to sell more copies, but for a game that takes place during a war needs to have more blood and more graphic killing. Halo kicks Splinter Cell's butt in that category. However, the graphics are stunning, and the gameplay is realistic, plus the story's great. I enjoy the news footage between levels. It ups the realism of the game. You should get your SC-20K before CIA headquarters, but my copy of the Prima's Official Strategy guide makes the game beatable. Most of it's good, but there's not enough killing or blood. E-mail me if you find any cheats for new weapons, okay, but I'm not on XBox Live, so just within the game.

what a great game |
| Gaurdsman Williams from newport south wales U.K says (1/Jan/2003): |
after playing on this game for a whole month now ive come 2 the conclusions its a great game, the graphics r sh*t hot, the game play is awesome and the story line is great. but there r some things which could b improved, like the guys apearing through the walls an doors, more weapons maybe. personally i find this game hard, im stuck on the 2nd chineese embassy level at the end with the fire on the stairs, so if u know how 2 get passed it plz mail me an let me know, but i have 2 say i would prefer 2 play games like ghost recon, an im waiting for operation flash point which im sure should be a good game. but overall wot a brilliant game, bloody awesome.

you need to use your head not a gun |
| josh smith from miami,floida says (1/Jan/2003): |
i hear people running out of ammo because they depend on a gun to much reminder this is a stealth game not a shoot and hide you have to plan out shoot the lights if u need to don't shoot it if u need to blend in hiding for no guards or cams. i just simply go behind them and put a gun on there head and use them as sheilds or shoot out the lights to make investagate it to die. this game is for skilled people if your not skilled well you better learn and stop complaining.

Splinter Cell |
| Ace from Houston, Texas, USA says (1/Jan/2003): |
Splinter Cell is just as good as Halo not any worse or better. The style is way different, its based around stealth. Dont judge this by other Tom Clancy games because they are nothing alike. The graphics are the best yet on XBox. The difficulty can be frustrating sometimes becuase there is not enough checkpoints in levels. It is the most original game I have ever played. Nothing like Metal Gear Solid 2. The gadets are vary unique. The storyline is very good, but it can cunfusing sometimes Its to short though, I beet it in 5 days there are only 9 levels!!! The sound sounds real with 5.1 sorround sound. You going to be able to download 4 additional levels through XBox Live soon !! Crap I have to wait for Splinter 2, Ohhhhhhhh the waiting.

|
good game but y r u complaining? |
| pol from new jersey, usa says (2/Jan/2003): |
ok. very very good game. graphics are best ive ever seen, gameplay is awsome, much more realistic than any other tactical espionage game out there. who says you need more than 2 guns? and why do you run out of ammo so quickly? first, you only need 2 guns and u cant take guns off guards because its loud, not silenced, and y do u need them if your gun is better. how did u run out of ammo. i never ran out of ammo in this game. you just ran out of ammo because you are a bad shot and you dont know how to punch people from behind or grab them. and u cant take ammo from bodies because its the wrong type of bullet. Alarms go off out of know where because you didnt hide all the bodies in a completly dark area. and if you think you hid all the bodies check again. Oh ya, and why are you guys compairing this to halo? they are 2 completely different types of games and should not be compared. oh ya and splinter cell is a 3rd PERSON game NOT a FIRST PERSON game. first person is when you are in the characters eyes and 3rd person is the outside view when you can see your character for all you people that didnt know that.

In the words of Sam Fisher, |
| David from Willmar, USA says (2/Jan/2003): |
First person shooters are usually associated with blazing barrels and stormy entrances, but Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a one-of-a-kind game. Gamers take on the role of Sam Fisher, who must steal his way through his missions using not his firearms, but his cunning and wits. Thus, he must travel light, carrying only a few weapons and little ammo, which must be used carefully if Sam is to remain stealthy. Therefore the gameplay is somewhat slow at times, but exciting all the same. The thrill of incapacitating unwitting guards is exhilirating, and makes up for the lack of "Rambo" or "James Bond" scenarios. If the gamer truly needs his/her fix for all-out action, try the Kalinetic level, which equips Sam with the SC-20k, an all purpose firearm, as well as frag grenades. I found it to be a relief from stealth for a while, considering I was used to games like Perfect Dark and James Bond, which didn't require such a strenuous level of stealth. I haven't completed the game yet, but so far I find it quite amazing. The innovative light system is thrilling, if not always realistic. For example, there are scenarios in which I've hidden Sam in a shadow, but the guard was TWO FEET in front of me! How could a guard fail to notice someone at that distance? I think the graphics are great, especially during the movie quality cinemas. I moved from the N64 to the X-BOX, and there is no comparison. Gameplay is phenomenal. Sam has a range of skills to deploy, enough gadgets to get the job done, and a killer attitude mixed with an occasional whitty quip that makes him one of the coolest characters around. I have so much playing this game I even move around my house stealthily at night!
