I can't believe all these good reviews!--(Must work for Kameco.) | | TOBEN from ALEXANDRIA, VA says (1/Apr/2003): | I'm currently renting it, so I'm forced to play it in order to squeeze my money's worth out of the week rental; or should I say WEAK, rental! Gameplay?!: WHAT?! All you do is run around aimlessly looking at the map in the corner of the screen trying to find badguys. (your mission objective is never given--in one later level, you just start a level on a roof somewhere without knowing what to do or where to go)It's actually easier controlling the little arrow on the map than it is controlling batman on screen since the camera angle and perspective changes on a whim. Then you'll run into a group of thugs who start mowing you down with gunfire. Unless in Batman: Vengeance, which was an OK game, throwing a batarang doesn't disarm the bad guys. And by the time you get over to them they're back on their feet unscathed. The bad guys can take a lickin' and keep on tickin' like a Timex watch--Unlike Batman himself. I'm in the sewer on this one level (how I ever got this far is a mystery) and I run across a group of 5-6 guys with sticks. After getting pummeled time after time I decide to run. RUN! Batman runnin' away from a scrap. By the way since the game loads every couple of screens, if I jumped out of the screen back to the previous screen load, and look in the thugs' direction, using a bat gadget which is the only way you can look around in this no camera control game---they're gone. I then go back into the next load screen and am immediately thrust back into a melee with the 5-6 guys that have "teleported" back again!!! But I digress. Anyway, as I was saying, I actually decided to run. There is nothing more pathetic than seeing BATMAN run away from a two-bit thug with a stick. Even sadder still is that the guy started to catch up to me, close enough to swing the stick!!!! Cornered, I decided to face him (this is backwards, right?). I mashed the punch button serval times. WHAP, WHAP, WHAP, WHAP, WHAP, WHAP... at least 6 straight jabs delivered to the guy's chin.---All it did to him was move him back a bit with each punch until the last swing missed him. Then he takes one, yes ONE SWING at Batman with his stick and down goes Batman, DOWN GOES BATMAN. I DON'T CARE IF HE HAD A STICK OR NOT!!!!
In this game oftentimes BATMAN goes down after ONE HIT while common goons STILL DON'T GO DOWN AFTER 5-10 HITS!!!!!!!! And when he's on the ground, which is often, they're kicking and stomping on you and "you've fallen and can't get up." That is unless you push a button. You actually have to MAKE BATMAN GET UP. Oh, and the thugs? They'll literally NEVER, EVER, EVER, stay down unless you handcuff them.---And that's a pretty tall order when they have to show you a "cutscene" everytime you're handcuffing the guy while the others are swarming around you kicking you. Since when Batman is hit, the cutscene abruptly ends, the guy you were trying to cuff in the first place gets back up--good as new--and you have to do it all over.
This is the entire gameplay. You fight the same types of guys over and over again, just looking for some green on the map until you've cleared it all. The leg sweep seems to work pretty good if you can remember to click the right thumbstick twice to crouch and then be in a position to execute it. So in another inane moment, I found Batman looking like a complete IDIOT, scooting backwards (to allow his cape to absorb gunfire) all the way around the level towards a bad guy just so I can get close enough to him to leg sweep and then turn and cuff him. Effective? I guess. Fun? NO WAY. Yeah the music at times is good. They say the Philharmonic orchestra was used. I could hear it at times, but other times, like where I am now, it sounds like some old badly edited and looped GUMBY music. They should be ashamed of themselves producing this garbage. Let Ubi Soft do it and make it like SPLINTER CELL. THAT WOULD BE PERFECT!
| Great plot, awesome graphics, but an extermely frustrating game to play!! | | Legion-1 from NYC, USA says (19/Apr/2003): | It's a shame that even with a great plot, title, and fantastic animated features, the game generally sucked! The visual angles made "batman" turn into "bumpman". Because many times that I enterd one scene to another, I constantly bumped into walls due to the poor camera angles. I was also dissapointed that I never got to drive the batmobile or batplane (like in Batman Vengeance). The game also failed to provide Batman with better effective stealth and martial-art moves. Please don't do the fatal mistake that I made... do NOT buy this game.
| This game dosent even deserve a one. | | David Ritchey from Ennis, Texas says (29/Jul/2003): | This game sucked bad, but what can you say there has never been a great batman game. I dont see why they still suck there is so many games that dont, so why dosent Batman use the sam game designs that other games use? I dont know if there will ever be a good batman game, but i do know paying $5 for this game would be considered over pricing.
| why, batman why? | | Joe T. from Santa Fe, NM, USA says (23/Aug/2003): | Man, I can't belive batman has anything to do with this sad, sad, pathetic excuse for a game. I love batman, he's like my idol, but my respect for him dropped a few notches after playing this game. Death to those who made it! When I started playing I knew it was bad, but I kept playing in hopes that it got better, it didn't. Heath runs out like water in a broken cup, fighting's slow and depressing even with combos (that onley work half the time anyway.) and the camra angles made me cry. Graphics...pathetic. Fun...no possibly small section could come accross as fun. The game...don't touch it, it might be infected
| Love batman, hate this game | | Jeffro from clinton township, MI says (21/Mar/2003): | The Camera angles and movement are terrible, the character texture mapping and movement are chopping and boxy and the gamepley is very monotonous. If you want to check out a game that does Camera adjustments, texture mapping and fluid movement well, check out Splinter Cell. The game was made a half a year before Batman and is ten times the game. Overall I am very disappointed, it just seems to be a lot of work to get to the great cut-scenes.
| cool game, but frustrating all the same | | j-luv from illinois says (24/Mar/2003): | although i am huge batman mark, this game is great but frustrating all the same. the graphics are pretty cool, and hey you get to play as batman. but the camera angles are so frustrating!! for example, in the arkham level, the inmates may be beating you down, and you can't even see yourself getting beat down! Otherwise it's a cool game.
| DO NOT BUY THIS GAME | | larry from atlanta,ga says (25/Mar/2003): | It has terribe camera angles and unresponsive controls. Its hard to turn Batman to face the enemy, so you cannot fight them if you cannot see them. Sometimes, the camera is pulled in so tight on Batman, you cannot see any of the enemies around you. Also, his punches/kicks are very slow. Try fighting 3 people at once and you'll see what I mean. If you are a Batman fanatic, stick with Vengeance for now. You would figure this company could BUILD on a good game like Vengeance, and not tear the whole thing down.
| Possibly the worst game of all time!! | | wydiddy from San Francisco, California USA says (25/Mar/2003): | I rented this game thinking it would be a fun romp through Gotham City. I was dead wrong, literally. After a beautifully rendered opening sequence, I was treated to level after level
of choppy, jerky control, muddy graphics, enemy A.I. bordering on mentally retarded, invisible sniper attacks, and some of the most incomprehensibly stupid "fixed camera" angles I've ever seen!!... Then I got to the second level. Needless to say, the madness continued throughout the "game", if you can call it that. There's nothing more pathetic than watching the Dark Knight Dective dangle helplessly from the side of a building because he used his "bat grapple" instead of his "bat cable". I seriously doubt Batman would die fifteen times trying to clear a five foot gap between two buildings. On the music side, this title does boast a beautiful, full orchestral score. Unfortunately, great music doesn't make Batman's repeated kicks to his enemies shins look any less girly. Ultimately, this game becomes a painful process of button mashing your way through endless levels just to watch the cool cut scenes. It's just not worth the effort. It's sad really. What a shame to waste such a great license. Avoid this title like poison ivy...Oh wait, the game comes with a "limited edition" comic book. That has to be worth the fifty bucks alone. (Insert sarcastic laughter here.)
| a fast paced gritty batman game with a few flaws | | Joseph from Il. says (25/Mar/2003): | I played this game all the way through, it was about as long as metal gear solid 2. I enjoyed the game, excpecialy the beatiful cut-scenes. The game play was pretty good if you got used to the terrible camera angles. The angles were made to give it a movie like aspect, but in the end proved to be frusterating. Another problem was the controles were not accurate at times, uunsensitive. The plot was really good, and the cut scenes added to that effect. All in all batman dark tomorrow surpasses vengence in story and cut scenes, but it matches it in game play. The 2 endings were very surprising, however I dont know if there is a way to get another (happy) one. I enjoyed this game, however if you don't love batman, its more of a rent it.
| Great Game! Except for camera problems | | Jason AKA: Canadian from California, USA says (30/Mar/2003): | Well this game may be kinda poor but if you look passed that it looks like a well rounded decent Batman title. I wouldnt go as far as saying "this game is the worst one yet!" It has great graphics nice gameplay, but the camera plays a problem, I have had the same kind if trouble in many other game titles such as Tao Feng with the camera, but a lot of gamers are looking for solid gameplay, this title has it..if it wasnt for the abd camera i would of given this one close to a 10.
| I thought Bruce Lee was Sorry | | James "Jedi" Sap from Waterford says (6/Apr/2003): | Man i rented this game becase im a fan of batman. This game makes batman look like a complete idiot. All u do is walk around, looking for bad guys, that are way stronger and better fighters than batman himself. I thought bruce lee was a sorry x box game, turns out i was wrong. this game isnt even worth picking up to look at the screenshots on the back cover. wordt game of all time, i would rather play pong than this sorry batman game. And also, c mon now x box, u suppose to be putting good games on the market, with games like batman dark tomorrow, x box is definately making a bad name for itself. DO NOT BUY OR RENT OR LOOK AT THIS SORRY BATMAN GAME.
| Isn't that Talia girl (Batman's love interest) from DOA Xtreme Beach Vollyball? | | Xstreamgama23 from San Diego CA says (8/Apr/2003): | The game is just below good and aliitle bit on top of bad. If this game came out for the PSone, it would be a hit because of the graphics. This game is like a mix with RESIDENT EVIL because of the camera angles except it's a superhero game.
It's not a good game now because of all the new technology put inside the new age games and as well as the much improved gameplay. BATMAN DARK TOMORROW is for the hardcore comic fans, not really for gamers. The creators of this game isn't bad creaters or anything, they just didn't know what the fans wanted, instead they chose to try and bite off of other games, like MGS2.
They didn't succeed as you can see, but they need to learn about what fans expect and not what they think is good. This game isn't terrible, but it really isn't worth the money. However,if you like BATMAN stories the CINEMATICS are great to watch, this being said because the CGI was made by Japanese game creaters. Like I said earlier, it's not a bad game, but if you read this, keep in mind that the game has just about too many flaws. Last thing, if you consider renting this game, complete this game to the end and tell whether or not there is a resemblance between batman's ex-lover and the DOA3 volleyball girls....
| Absolutly f*ckin GREAT Game | | Cammy from Hamburg, Germany says (15/Aug/2003): | I'm not through already, the Beginning was frustrating, especially the not-changeable Camera, but at all, it's a really great Game, the deep Story and the Gameplay are really great :)
The best Batman Game ever made! I hope there will be soon another One from the dark Hero of Gotham City :)
| This is a great game, thats if u like batman! | | stalking psycho from England London says (16/Aug/2003): | Batman is really good i think it is a wicked game!I think the graphics r a 6 out of 10!sound wood be about a 9 out of 10!soundtrack is a 8 out of 10!i think overall is a 9 for this fantastic game!!If u dont believe me rent then buy it!!
| Batman's Awesome but this game needs improvement | | Randall from Tulsa, OK USA says (19/Aug/2003): | Great characters, intresting story, and cool gadgets make this game great. However the camera is hideous and can't be controlled, it changes on a whim usually, affecting control direction, I jumped to another building in the first level and right before I could land, camera changed and I plummeted to my death. The enemies can sometimes take 10 punches before they fall down and when you try to cuff one the other 4 beat you away, plus by the time you get another one to go down the first guys back up and at full health! some times its also confusing in the arkham level I was in a room with two nurses who were being menaced by two inmates after I cuffed the thugs, I tried to leave, but the door didn't budge after running in circles looking at everything in the room I tried talking to one of the nurses, nothing happened so I looked around some more finally I figured out I was supposed to crouch next to the nurse to talk to her, then the doors unlocked and I could roam around again. also in the glider level I kept falling I had no idea what I was hitting and finally made it trough by pure luck. Aside from those things ths games pretty intresting and if you ignore those things this games really enjoyable.
| Very good game | | Lisandro Ruiz Moreno from Entre Rios, Argentina says (14/Dec/2002): | Srs. What a game!. It is one of the best Batman's games I have ever seen, if you want to buy a Batman's game, please buy this. Exelent graphics, exelent sound, exelent characters and of course Batman it is just amazing. Buy it, it is great.
