There just isn't any score low enough for this piece of... |
| Disappointed from California, USA says (19/Aug/2003): |
This game blows in almost every way. I haven't tried the Multi so I won't comment on that, but...
- The humour is rarely funny (in fact it gets down right irritating, and most of the attempts to be funny are just stupid). The stereotypes stop being funny after 10 minutes and the DC boss you work for is so poorly done it's painful to deal with.
- The physics are so bad (and *random*) that doing the same thing results in different outcomes often enough to make you realize that you just can't rely on a maneuver working for you - it might, it might not.
- If you're expecting a racing game you'll hate this (this is *not* a racing game - Live for Speed is a racing game). If you're expecting an arcade game you're much less likely to be disappointed. Think "trying to be NFS, but turning out like a mix between the Test Drive series and Monster Truck Madness series" (no insult meant to MTM, MTM was superior to this joke) and you're in the neighborhood.
- The first Paris missions are way too easy, the later ones are way too hard. The DC missions are the same way (but they ramp up in difficulty much faster which sucks).
- The "go anywhere, do it your way" concept is totally nonexistent in the single player missions (the first couple are barely an exception) - either you drive the exact path MS expects (and hope no traffic messes you up very much) or there is no way you'll finish the later missions - there is no room for "error" (aka - not doing it exactly the way MS wants it done) and there is no room for creativity.
- It seems that the developers and testers couldn't grasp the idea that they would be the only people on the planet playing this game for hundreds of hours (if they even tested it that long) - expecting the average gamer to reach the level of rote memorization and brain death necessary to acheive what must have become habit to them is rediculous. A challenge is fun, this is a joke.
- There aren't any police in the missions (except for one mission in Paris - haven't finished DC yet and probably won't). WTF?!?!?!?
- In one mission you're supposed to follow a guy who's supposed to just be driving (it's really the only easy upper level mission in Paris) - yet he still drives on sidewalks and through lightposts and other cars - lame.
- In another Paris mission you're supposed to catch an Escalade by ramming it until it's wrecked - the thing is on rails and there is no way to make it miss a turn. Even spinning it out is pretty much impossible. How hard you hit it doesn't matter either, it seems to be fixed damage per contact. In the end, you'll probably have to play this over and over until you have the route memorized as well as the AI.
- Driver 1 on PlayStation 1 blows this steaming pile of dung away in every way except graphics (I'm still not convinced that the sound in this game is better than Driver, but it's been awhile so I won't make a judgement).
- For single player, this game is barely worth a rental (and that's only if all the episodes of Hello Kitty are already rented). MS should have stopped after MM1 - they just keep getting worse.
- How could it be better? Instead of making the missions rediculously difficult (with specific, required routes and just enough time to finish them if no traffic gets in the way) they could have increased the time allowed to complete a mission and added police that chase you (Driver anyone?). Better phyisics and AI that isn't on rails would be nice, too.
- The game deserves an F- but that would be an insult to any game that actually *earned* an F-. There just isn't any score low enough for this piece of...

Only Car Racing Game I have ever liked |
| Belinda from Perth, WA, Australia says (26/Jan/2004): |
I am not a car racing fan so when I give this a 10 out of 10 you know its gotta be good. I think one thing about reviewing a game is not to compare it to others unless its the previous 2 MM games. (and even then why would you want it to be the same!!) Its Midtown Madness not grand theft auto, it not crazy taxi, its not grand prix. Midtown Madness means Midtown Madness it means you do crash into things it means you do race around 2 major cities and cars do get in the way!! And thats the best thing. Its basically what teenagers do for real anyway but they don't loose their lives and others. The plus's also are ramps, and paint jobs and the other goodies you can find. Yes some of the levels are challenging but thats what a game is. If you don't like challenges and all you want to do is to cheat then you won't get much of a kick out of it. I now what to see Washington and Paris to see if they were exactly the way they showed it. Also I have to say I did find the people talking in the under cover jobs extremely annoying so I discovered I could control the level of noise for each individual thing such as voices, SFX, music etc (so I shut them up pretty quick). Also you can add your own mix of music which is great. I love being able to go for a cruise with no peak hour traffic its relaxing. I like being in control of everything, the amount of traffic, pedestrations, weather, police, and even seasons like seeing it snow.
I haven't gotten XBox live yet but am extremely looking forward to it. Because of the downloads and racing and tag games with other people in the world. One more thing that did annoy me was being able to see things but they were fenced off and you could not smash through them so I could not drive in there but in other places you could smash through the fences. And last but not least the undercover jobs, blitz races and checkpoints are excellent!! Can't wait for the 4th, it better be on XBOX or pc I can't afford another console!!

A Good Racer |
| Aticus from New Orleans, USA says (18/Jun/2003): |
I find the game to be good all around. Most aspects I like and a few I don’t. The overall control of the game is more arcade than simulation. Those looking for another Gran Turismo should look elsewhere. The brakes can act more like a hand brake sometimes putting your car into a spin rather than simply slowing down. The view in the game can be hard with some of the larger vehicles. You can’t see ten feet in front of the bus or garbage truck unless inside the car. While inside the car the engine sounds are poor in surround sound but outside they are semi-decent. When the game starts you have a limited number of fast vehicles and even as you advance fast cars are still scarce. Cars are easy to unlock for beginners. However, those looking for an arcade racer with a pinch of simulation thrown in and a fairly decent plot have found the perfect game. I like the cruise mode that allows the player to roam free in the beautifully modeled cities and find new paint schemes for their cars. The graphics raise the bar on arcade racers. If you liked just driving around in the Grand Theft Auto games than you’ll love the cruise mode. The blitz and checkpoint races are a lot of fun because they go over a variety of parts of both D.C. and Paris and grow more challenging as you advance. The life span on Midtown Madness three is short as most racers are. Once you have explored both cities and beaten everything there isn’t anything to do. Overall a good game for people who like racing games.

One of the best games available for XBox Live play! |
| CheatersFriend from Lowestoft, England says (1/Mar/2004): |
Midtown Madness 3 was one of the earlier released driving games on the XBox, but remains one of the best in my opinion.
It's fast, fun and funky with its single player modes giving you countless hours of gameplay because of the huge number of 'missions' you're given by the strange in-game characters that you work for. You are put in the shoes of everyone from Taxi Drivers to Police Officers, and from Salesmen to Government Official!
You can unlock new paint-jobs for most cars, so that adds hours and hours more gameplay to MM3 as you have fo find them first, and be in the right car to get them! For most cars there are two paint jobs. You can usually find one in WAshinton DC and one in Paris.
When you've completed all single player missions, blitz and checkpoint racers you are able to unlock new cars and features that were previously completely unavailable. The good thing is you can use your new cars and all the paint-jobs you find on XBox Live.
There are a number of great game modes to play on XBox Live. You can just cruise around with upto 7 other players, or if you're feeling competitive, the other games will be better! My personal favourites are Hunter and Tag!
Final Thoughts - Midtown Madness 3 is a well-rounded game, it has a bit of everything and a lot that similar games don't offer. Well worth buying, especially now it's very inexpensive to get hold of! Go get it!

One of The Greatest Arcade Racers Ever |
| Sparda Reardon from New York, U.S.A. says (29/Jun/2003): |
If you like arcade racers (Midnight Club 1 & 2), this game is for you. If you like simulations (Gran Turismo 1-3), spend your money else where. This game is probably one of the best arcade racers you can buy. The graphics take a step up from other arcade racers and the sound is pretty good too. Controls are a little touchy but nothing that ruins the game. Like most racing games, the lifespan is nothing to brag about. But where this game really shines is its selection of cars. They range feom normal (Chevy Corvette Z06, Lotus Espirit V8), Classic (1967 Mustang 2+2 Fastback, 1959 Eldorado Seville), Wierd ( New Mini Coopers, New Beetle RSI) and Insane (Cement Truck, Garbage Truck, Ambulance). The modes mix it up too. They range from Working as an undercover agent taking jobs in Paris and Washington D.C. to Doing Checkpoint and Blitz races and to hooking up with a buddy on X-Box LIVE. The main part of the game is taking jobs ranging from Paramedic to Car Salesman to Pizza Boy/Girl all while being challenged from either Angelina (washinton D.C.) or Mathilda (Paris). You unlock cars by completing jobs, blitz races and checkpoint races. You can also choose witch city you work in. The only flaw is Repitition. Pick him up, drive him there, deliver his car. But the game stays fun none the less. Be sure to pick it up at Electronics Boutique for $30 instead of $49.99.

Check these places out |
| Ben from Virginia Beach says (17/Jul/2003): |
ok 1st things first this game is awsome but it could use the 2-wheel driving effect like in Midnight Club 2 if ya ever played that and i think it would be even better if they had added some nitro effect or turbo. then it would play a little better but for now listen up peeps. (for XBOX LIVE PLAYERS ONLY)
OK....
(recomended for the crossfire, CC, Viper ,Lotus or Serpent)
now what you do is create a room and you enter it without anyone else unless you want to wait for people to join but it doesnt matter, 2nd go to Paris and then look for or head to the IFLE TOWER if you already know where its at. then you look for that jump that goes onto a building with a long roof and then a 2nd jump ontop of that roof. then back up so you can get a little speed and then drive up the first jump and then aim for the 2nd jump now what you do is dont jump off the rap straight but jump off to the left and you can land ontop of the higher part of the building that would normally clear if you go straight. pretty cool aye? well i like it beacause cops are to slow to get up there and if you have one of those cars i mentioned and your up there it will be so funny to watch those poor helpless cop cars struggle to reach you! have fun laughin!!!

THE BEST YET FOR LIVE AND REALISTIC RACING ACTION |
| A gamer from Edmonton, AB, Canada says (30/Aug/2003): |
I only rented this game for 3 days. And what happend, I had just found the besst game I've played on X Box. This game is great for having a cruise in Paris, or Washington. Just drive and create havic. Have friends on Live. Well its the best thing to come to Live. Games to play and have a conversation about what ever you wnat to talk about. Theres no limits to what you can do on there. Glitches. There are many glitches in the game wich shows that the game wasnt desinged very well. The way I think of the game being like that is that glitching is fun.
You could have a fire truck push you into the corner of all the buildings in the city. You might end up on a free fall (where theres no solid ground in the glitch). Or it could be the best place to hid from cops when playing Hunter on Live. On Live you can play Hunter, Cruise, Stayaway, Tag, and Checpoint races against your friends. I dont see what is not to like in this game. Its got everything. Busses, Semi's, Taxi's, Hummer's, Lotus', Serpents, Vipers, Crossfires, even Mini Coopers. Well I honestly cant figure out what else to say, I think ive said enough. If you were smart you would buy this game.

Best Game Ever! |
| Rhys Scott from Colchester, England says (8/Jul/2003): |
Midtown Madness Three is definately the best racing gaem that money can buy. Even if you don't like racing games, it is worth it just for the fantastic graphics, great sound and the comedy! Some of the levels are extremely hard though, like the Salesman levels where you have to escape the cops, but other than that the levels are okay. The Blitz and Checkpoint races can be infuriating as the first six you complete unlock really rubbish cars such as a truck, a bus or a van. But it's well worth it just to unlock the Corvette ZO6! The game can last for ever, even if you complete it there are still more things to do on it such as finding all the paint jobs for the different cars, exploring Paris or Washington, Multiplayer mode, and if you have XBOX Live, it is even better! The gameplay is much the same as Midtown Madness 1 + 2 for the PC, but I personally think they should have kept San Francisco in instead of washington, as those hills cause for some WICKED races and jumps!

This is great! |
| Bill from Chalmette, louisiana USA says (21/Jun/2003): |
I reccomend this to any1 10+yrs old, it is fun! You can go undercover doin missions where you need to be a pizza boy/girl, then u r a paramedic, then a whatever! it is fun,, my favorite thing is cruise mode (a.k.a free drive) you can do anything choose if you want cops in the game, if u do, they find u hit a car/go too fast they r on ya, this ain't like all the other mms' where you can be drivin slower than a 700yr old grandma and you are chased by a cop, no they actually have reasons, and they will sometimes say what for, like i have been playin and i will crash into tons of cars they will say like traffic jammer at 12 o'clock! and chase you then when u pass by another they will say got him in view or somethin, it is fun, JUST BUY IT!

| Tim from Barnstaple, N.Devon,United Kingdom says (10/Jan/2004): |
This game lacks structure design and style. Quite frankly i am glad i got this game free with my xbox as i would not buy it seperately. There are only 2 levels the missions can be anoying and pathetic. There is a lady with a french accent it the first undercover missions which allmost made me throw my xbox out of the top floor window. This game has to be the worst out of the MM trillogy!! My recomendations to any person even thinking about buying this game is think again go for a better game such as GTA3. The xbox has out standing capabilitys and i must admit the MM3 game does use them to its advantage but it still lacks realisum.

TERRIBLE |
| Austin from Orlando, Florida says (27/Jul/2003): |
I own Midtown Madness 1 and 2 this game is not like microsoft, it was terrible! I have never played a worse laid out game, what really gets me unlike 1 & 2 you can srive through certain buildings, in 3 they would rather die, they expect me to have fun with just dirving around and hiting things, i have unlocked all of the cars, but the dashboards are not in any car, and all around the game is just bad. Microsoft should have spent longer on it and released a computer verison i seriously want my money back for that game and my xbox system, i dislike microsoft now because of this.
|
this game is brill!!!!! |
| A gamer from united kingdom says (4/Aug/2003): |
ok where shall i start, ok when i first got the game i disliked it for a bit because i simply didnt know what to to, so i read the booklet that came with the game and it simply told me everything, so now i am loveing it, i have all the cars unlocked and i have all the paint jobs. And when you play it on live it just gets 10times better i think. I finished the game within a week and loved every bit of it, but i am not getting fid of because i can play it on live and a lot of fun on that. I think this is the best game microsoft have brought out. So thanks a millon microsoft.

The Best Game Ever |
| Josef J. from London, UK says (15/Aug/2003): |
I've been a great fan of Midtown Madness One and Two, but when I get the XBOX a few months ago and now finally this. YOU GO Microsoft. It's making me want to move to Paris :) (I went to London after 2, that were I live now, LOL) But this is the best version, so much detail. Awesome cars, great game path :)
Great Game, very big fan of both Midtown 1 and 2, got the XBOX when it came out. I love MM3. It rocks, makes me wanto move to Paris. (In London, so not 2 far away) I like the different undercover feature :) Great Job Microsoft.
|
BEST GAME EVER (if you have live) |
| A gamer from London says (17/Nov/2003): |
MIDTOWN MADNESS 3 Absolutely Awesome........... Just another average driving game if you dont have a Live conection, but hook up to the net & WOW........ Extra races to download, extra cars & the online racing is fantastic! The cities are riddled with glitches which makes the game even better - your Lotus on a building top with 7 cop cars trying to smash their way up to you (if only real life was like that eh?).
I would highly recommend anybody with Live to buy this game, if you havent got Live - get it just so you CAN play this game!
|
Almost was going to buy it! |
| Jonathan Smith from 103 Brentview Dr. Charlestown IN 47111 says (12/Nov/2003): |
What this game lacks is some common structure. In mm3 you cant steal other cars like vice city. The game designers should really work that into the game play, second of all theres only two levels. Their should be about 5 levels instead of just 2. And this about looking for the paint cans is so ridiculous they should at least make a code for the paint cans.
Finally getting to my conclusion dont buy this dumbass game go out and rent it fot $6 bucks its not worth to pay $50 bucks for this game.
|
Game Sucks!!!!!! Should have worked on it for a bit longer. |
| Menton from Vancouver, Canada says (13/Jul/2003): |
I've got all the cars and almost all the sprays but the game is boring as hell. The only reason I finished it was because I rented it from Rogers Video and payed money for it. I am sooooo glad I did not buy the game. I have Midtown Madness 1 & 2 for my PC and they are just awsome but this one feels Microsoft made a quick project to get money. Next time they should work a month long and make it better than it is now. The only good thing is the quantity of the cars and cars themselves.
|
BEST CAR GAME!! |
| A Canadian from Canada (My name is Zaeem) from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada says (11/Nov/2003): |
This game is the best car driving/racing game i have EVA' played and it will be the best game i will ever play. Paris, D.C. What more could you ask for???? 32 cars, realistic environment, but the thing is that you can run over Pedestrians; it would probably be M for Mature or T fot teen of you could do that but anyway its an awesome game. My fave car is the 1967 Mustang 2+2 Fastback, the p-jobs on dat ting are so coool! Well anyway that is my review!
|
I've got all the cars |
| Matt Wasalaski from Brighton, Michigan (USA) says (13/Jul/2003): |
Midtown Madness 3 is a fun game, bu I think the producers could have made it a bit more challenging. I have every car in the game including the secret ASP and the Serpent MK2. The Asp is located in Paris and the MKN is in Washington. In order to get these cars you need to use the Koeninsegg CC. Right now I am trying to find all of the paint jobs for the cars which is a challenge because you need to search high and low in order to find them all.
|
Boredom |
| A gamer from London, UK says (6/Aug/2003): |
Midtown Madness 3.... Ok People without 1 & 2 may think this is a great game but you you could download new cars even with NOS for mm2 You could gather loads of speed
and fall through the scenery the races and cities were 20 times funner you 3d model your own car and edit current cars you could hack the data to unlock everything
So i am extremely glad the shop that i bought it from can give ten day refunds if you don't like it

If I won a million dollars.. |
| Eugene from New York, USA says (15/Jun/2003): |
Overall its a good game. Nice graphics (even though i think they could be better) They game play was too hard for me. The missions are interesting but i am too lazy to win 1st place each time. The game has a good selection of cars. You are always competing against one person who gets the same job as you. The basis of all missions is very similar. Seems to me like a bunch of checkpoint races (only got up to the third level)
