Solid 1up fest - Killer Live Potential | | Max Beaver from Leeds, UK says (24/May/2003): | After hammering the one player mode for 2 nights, it was over a little too quickly. Granted I had opted for "Don't hurt me" like a wuss but the desire to see all the environments was too much. Great level design and background detail and still the same secret and gold discovering as with good old wolf 3d. Alot of familiar things have made it from the original, which you can unlock after finishing off one player mode, which was an unexpected delight (especially level 3 where you get to kill hitler himself in proper robocop-esque garb). I did feel the uber-soldat / dark knight end of game characters were a little wooden and lacked any real challenge in terms of outsmarting the AI, more could definatley have been made of the occult/mutant staging to produce some wackier creatures apart from the standard slow moving zombie but hey who's counting.
All that aside the multiplayer almost feels like a different game !! Not that one player isn't worth your time, its quite expansive and has some excellent set pieces (check out the paratroopers landing). I was a little confused and disappointed by the lack of 2/4 player local xbox game at first but as soon as I had gotten online I realised what this game is all about.
This is the best in online gaming I have experienced so far and I have had a crack at most of it. Although occaisonally there are a few timeouts and system freezes, it doesn't mar the excitement and addcition of playing team based tacital missions against other like minded couch-psychos. The main event is objective/stopwatch mode which has a set number of objectives which are set up with one team attcking and the other defending. There are a good range of levels, some taken from the one player mode, and good use is made of the different class types, engineer, liuetenat, soldier and medic. Good communictaion and teamwork is essential to success of the mission and this is why this game rocks. Other team based onliners don't have quite the same requirement to cooperate with other players and bring about the same community spirit you get from this game. I'd love to tell you more but I have to go now, so sort it out, get on line and come and try and take my beach away from me.
| Return To Action. | | Romo? from Brooklyn, NY says (17/May/2003): | Return To Castle Wolfenstein is a good solid FPS. The graphics look very good from the backgrounds to the character models. The sound is also pretty good, the music fits the mood of the game very well and the voice acting gets the job done. The controls are pretty simple moving around and controling the camera is easy. And targeting enemys isn't to much of a problem. Theres times when the controls can be annoying though like when you climb up and down ladders you can easily fall off and lose power or when you have to cycle through your weapons to pick a certain weapon you want in the heat of battle can get you killed. But for the most part the controls aint too much of a problem. The storyline is ok but it isn't exactly epic and when playing through the one player mode you can beat the game in about 5 or 6 days. I guess if you have Xbox live you have even more to play but you do get a cool extra option when you beat the game you get to play the old Wolfenstein 3D. So if your looking for a fun FPS to play this is definately a good choice.
| This compensates our wait for Halo 2.....Great Game!!!! | | Ian from Yuma, AZ says (18/Jul/2003): | I have played the demo disc and this game got me hooked on it!
The FPS feature, graphics and sound are really good. This is one game that will make you think about what you do and how you do it, the weapons are great in this game and the enemies do present a challenge, especially the undead which you have to shoot many times to kill. I have played Medal of Honor Frontline and this has it slightly beat. The controls present a bit of a challenge because you use every button on the controller and the layout is different. The story may seem similar due to past games having the WWII scenario, but it is slightly fresher but not by much. Overall, I will give this game a 9 rating because of the storyline, that does not mean you should not buy this game. If you have $54.00 in your pocket right now and have an XBox, get off your a** and get this game, you will not regret it later on down the line!!!!!!!!
| great game, wish i had Live | | Devon Czekaj from PA, USA says (1/Jul/2003): | Wolfenstien is a great game. The AI is very smart and it is very funny to hear Nazis having conversations. The bad guys are a mix of Nazis, and weird occolt creatures. It is like the best of House of the Dead 3, and Medal of Honor. What is even cooler is the fact that there are oppertunities to be stealthy, like Splinter Cell. This means that you don't just blast everything with a Venom chain gun (although that is possible) The game is long, I still haven't beaten it, but I want to because I hear you get to play the original game. My only complaint isn't with the graphics, but because of me. This is a really cool Xbox Live game with different character classes and squad based fun. But I don't have broadband for Xbox Live, meaning I am missing out on all the fun. Oh well, still great for anyone with or without Xbox Live. Go buy it already!
