Everything that was expected and more. | | Boycie from Perth, Western Australia says (10/Nov/2004): | Years of waiting finally came to an end on the 9th August 2004. One of the most anticipated games in history finally found it's way into my hands. My initial reaction was thinking that there is no way this game could possibly be as good as everyone says. 7 hours later and I had to force myself to go to bed as the wee hours of the morning were hitting. Where do you start with this game. I am yet to finish the game completely but have found that what I have played so far is worth the wait. The storyline if much improved from the first, as is the video sequences in between gameplay. I love the fact that the gameplay intertwines between Humans and Covenant and this concept offers you something different from the original Halo. Absolutely love the duel weapons addition also. It is great to see what works well with each other in terms of having a quick firing weapon accompanied by a slower but more powerful one. I also enjoy the variety of different weapons on offer (my favourite being the laser sword). My only dissapointment was probably the difficultly in sometimes using the vehicles on offer (however, this could just be my poor warthog and ghost driving skills). Probably another dissapointment may be the fact that the game is probably a lot easier in parts to the original but this is probably just being picky. The other game modes should offer plenty of hours entertainment once the actual game is finished. Slayer in particular for me as there is no better way to sort out an argument than to fill your opponent full of needlers. I read a review on here bagging the fact that people need lives and to get a woman, well I have a woman and I can tell you this. Halo 2 doesnt nag, make you sleep in the spare room and doesn't expect you to respect it in the morning. The only reason I didn't rate it a 10 is because they need somewhere for Halo 3 to go.Brilliant.

The warthog was always my fav vehicle iloved how fast it was and how it turned and stuff the gun on the back was awsome and made it unike and last of all the pros about the old warthog you stayed in first person view in the passenger seat. Pros on new warthog powerslide is cool. The gause cannon rocks and they didn't change the chain gun much. Cons about the new warthog it can be destroyed its seemes slower and doesn't turn right. Not to minchen if you did home work on halo 2 before it ever came out they didn't put in all the varriants of the warthog. Like the snow one its not there or the camo one not there. The main reason i liked Halo was because of the warthog. Another con about Halo 2 the ai was suppose to smarter but when they drive you around in the warthog you find your self falling form a cliff. And if you watch you merines or covies they run around in the same paths all the time the enemies don't do rogue missions or any thing. I think the ai is actually dumber. Oh and never give them a rocket launcher they will either kill themselfs and the other marines or you.
More pros. I thought the new banshee was pritty cool, like how it blows apart and the wing things blow off its cool. The new ghosts are sweet with their over drive or whatever. And how they blow apart. The new character models are cool. And the multiplayer mod is better than the old one.
A few more cons. The biggist thing i hate about. Is how much home work I did on the game before it came out. They were going to put so much new stuff in it and have some better character skins o well its still my favorite game at the moment.
One more pro and i'm done. The graphics rock the lighting is so sweet and every thing looks ten time better then halo 1.se ya
| Loved the game | | roland from Portland,OR USA says (6/Dec/2005): | Hey everybody, this game was awesome and i loved it but there are some good and bad things about this game that im going to run you guys through. First off, i hated the fact that the cmpaign was so short because those guys at Bungie were way way way way way way way way too focused on the mutiplayer, especially the online playability. it made me super mad because i don't have xbox live. -:( - i mean i went through the campaign in two days on legendary!!!!!! also the campaign's ending was way way way way way too easy. also the ending cutscene was horrible. but on the good side of the ending, the guys at Bungie definitly left the ending well enough open for a very good sequel. only the thing i noticed about the end was that if the covenant elites keep thier alliance that means that scince the grunts and the hunters were fighting with the elites, the only bad guys, unless Bungie creates new bad guys, will be the brutes, the drones (those flying bugs that the marines always call buggers) , the jackals, the prophets, and the flood. Now, lets talk about vehicles. the thing i hated the most about the vehicles was the fact that when piloting the ghosts and using the boost, you could not fire, too. i also hated that you could not drive the scarab (that giant bug like thing in the city with the super destructo ray). and also you could not drive any of the drop off ships, the covenant or the marines, and i wish that i could have done that. lets talk about weapons now. i loved the fact that you could dual wield several weapons such as the plasma pistol, the plasma rifle, the SMG, the new pistol, and the needler. i also loved the new battle rifle, but i hated that they replaced the assault rifle for it. the shotgun was very stupid in halo 2. over all i liked this game alot. thanks for reading

The issue with halo 2 is how big it is. If halo 2 was this little game you rented one weekend you would probably like it. But the problom is people hate big things. Look at blink 182... they where cool untill they hit the big time then all the sudden "What why do you hate that?"
Online play is sick, and i'm not alone, this is just within the last 24 hours 1 week after the game came out

Aside from the stunning graphics the levels actualy change and there is a plot
The plot may be a problom because it runs deep. I mean deep.
Multiplay is a masterpiece, we still play halo 1. Xbox live also rates people so you arent playing againsed those kids who never leave there room and say things like "pwned" you can play againsed people at the same rank as you so everbody can say "what in the" together
So all around the game is great, the only reason to HATE it would be if your a ps2 fan. I can see not liking it, unlikely, but there is no reason to hate it.
As far as over hyping goes, halo 2 was hyped. Alot. But just because it was hyped doesn't mean it sucked.
Overall a great game, there are no bad aspecs, graphics kill (real time reflections and lighting for christ sake) and more things than ever are avalable to do. Go ahead, read any post that said they didn't like it. I guarantee own ps2, or say it was over hyped, or say it's the only thing xbox has. DOnt kill me if they don't i'm just pointing out that fact

HALO 2 IS A TIGHT GAME..fun factor for 1 player was a 5 out of 10. the problem was how short every single level was. in the first halo it seemed you can do so much more.. in the first halo you can drve whereever u want and in halo2 you were on the ring the whole time!! I didn't like the arbiter that much because of his weapons.. the sword was cool and turning invisible was cool.. but the weapons for the arbiter just sucked. Cmon bunjie u gots to put more of the mc in the game. ALL YOU PEOPLE THATS SAYING HALO 2 LEGENDARY IS HARD IS BECAUSE UR PLAYING IT BY URSELF!!! YOU CAN PLAY LEGENDARY WITH 4 PEOPLE MAyNe!!! | Halo 2...great game. Do more. | | Kite from Mason, Ohio USA says (28/Feb/2005): | Ok, I gave Halo 2 a best outta best, because it rocks. The graphics could've used a little tweaking, but it makes up for that in gameplay. It actually feels like you're there. The plasma pistol/pistol combo is, I say, my favorite, because 2 shots-your opponent is dead. As long as an overcharged plasma bolt hits them, and you get a pistol headshot. The story was great, you get to play as a disgraced elite. I say, he has the best looking armor I've ever seen on an elite. I hated the flood, but it wasn't as freaky as the first Halo. You didn't know what you were up against. And in the first halo, the plasma pistol was too strong. I went through the maw with just a plasma pistol on heroic! This time, it's not too strong.
Although the mongoose(ATV) could've been kept in, the vehicles are awesome. The ghost, you can destroy with one sniper shot to the fuel tank on the left side. The warthog, is one of the better ones. It gets fun, because it's harder to hijack than a tank or ghost. The banshee, is way too powerful if used by a skilled pilot. The only real good weapon against it is the rocket, tank(human), on gauss cannon. It's too deadly when you have just a pistol and it's headed straight towards you. And most people think the rocket is n00bish. It's not, it's a last resort weapon. It helps to lock on to vehicles, but it sometimes will miss. And it's not as powewrful as the halo 1 rocket.
Overall, I think that Halo 2 is way better than Halo 1, and those who don't like the changes or don't like to play as an elite are just too stuck on the first halo. Hope this review helps those who wanted to know about Halo 2.

Had my speed setting at 10 and beat it on legendary multiple times, loved co-op as well. I played with the boxer control setting, and it was awesome to be able to get in close and really mix it up, you could go one on one or one on two with the Elite and kick their ass in an extended personal fight, just had to watch out for the Goldies with Swords, even they were fun to get in close, just had to time your punches and move fast... A handful of baddies, no problem toss a grenade, rush in crazy like and mop em up... With Halo 2, they took away your Health bars and all you have NOW is your shield, which appeears to deplete much faster now, seems like on legendary the enemies damage is greater than in comparison to HALO, thus the in your face personal duel factor has diminished. Other issues, the game is short. The ending sucked. NO BOTS TO LOAD FOR MULTIPLAYER. If you try playing co-op on legendary and you or your partner dies you automatically just re-start at the last checkpoint,you take three direct hits in succesion from a plasma rifle and you drop, the master chief is weak now, crap as programmers...... I don't want to spend more than half of the game as an ELITE, HALO fans were into the master chief, I saw pictures of realistic master chief suits that people had made, this new direction makes the last level suck even more, it had a weak ass boss character ending, and a crappy last minute nod of the head to the master chief. HALO 2 bummed me out and pissed me for half a day, what a letdown......

We played and played and played and played and played some more and more and more and more. (the point is i dont thank any one out there played it as much as i did, no lieing i played a lot) i am so dang good at it but the sad thang is my younger brother is king of it. Well i guess im suppost to talk about the game...
well i got one word (LEGENDARY) i laugh in alian tongues at my efforts to servive. i found out it was suicide!! one more time (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) great game nothing out there like it nothing truly nuttin. and any one and i mean any one out there says its a bad game or they did not like somthing about can just... (well u no what im talking about fans). every time i play i just think that a kid out there is playing the same time as i and loving it as i am. U fans out there my talent is your talent and yours is mine. it truly is won my heart and scratched a memorie that will never leave my mind as long as i live. its just great. | Pistols are useless banshees need a fuel rod in multiplayer | | Woody from Melbourne Australia says (27/Dec/2004): | Try releasing 2 charged bolts at a jackal, see them both hit the critter - he doesn't die! So there is no point dual weilding a plasma pistol. The homing ability of the plasma pistol is just pathetic and frustrating, and to make matters worse, it looks lousy... just fire up Halo 1 if you don't believe me. The melee attack has lost its venom too. Banshees in multiplayer - try going up against any other vehicle and see how you fare (it is screaming for a fuel rod cannon) Bungie can you send us an upgrade? On higher difficulty levels, the sheild alarm is irrelevant - as you will find when you are surprised by an elite with a plasma pistol. You'll be dead before you have time to ponder the state of your shield. Must say though, I love the interactive environment, even if the AI drivers sometimes get stuck between debris and walls. Punching things clear of impediments is not as easy anymore.
I've tried to enjoy playing as the Arbiter, but I guess I'm just one of those inflexible people who loves an original and is doomed to be disappointed by a sequel.(I must admit that I played 'Assault on the control room' too many times - and loved every minute)How do you beat being surrounded by rapidly dying marines, plenty of room to move, a tank that has a realistic firing rate (sorry, the new one just reloads too damn fast for an opponent trying to kill you with a rocket launcher), tying to snipe Covenant at very long range while a wraith bombs you and your allies? Play this level again on Halo 1 and see if you can find anything as expansive and varied in the new game. It is an epic battle.

(I gave Halo 10/10) It was because it wasn't that great. Duel wielding is just absolutely pointless. You have to throw a gun down to do pretty much anything except shoot. The tank is a heck of a lot slower than in Halo: CE. The Magnum is about as useful as a Scorpion Tank with no machine guns or cannon or fuel because the *new and improved* magnum has no scope and is too weak to be of any use except for the Grunts. The Sniper Rifle is good because it is powerful, but you can't use it because it is hardly in single player, and the enemies move too fast to snipe at them. But - you can finally steal enemy vehicles! (The problem is that you can't fly Pelicans [aka UNSC dropship], or covenant dropships. And the Warthog is no longer indestructable (boo hoo!). The graphics in Halo 2 are good (but I don't think they are better than the graphics in Halo CE). No longer will blood come out of enemies when they are dead and you whack them (no more saying "look! I spilled the paint can!"). The overall story is very "stoopid". It is probably the most identical sequel ever! The only good things about the story are the new weapons, and the ability to steal certain things. I think that the game was completely screwed up because you play as the Arbiter for more than half the game (i thought halo was about the master chief). AND... there are NO cheats that are any use WHATSOEVER!!!! Overall, Halo 2 is just a rip-off. Bungie - you took a good game and, instead of improving it, you screwed it right up!!
| HALO 2.........The Greatest Game on "Earth" | | A gamer from New York,USA says (13/Nov/2004): | Halo 2 has kept me cramped up in my room for hours at a time. It is one of the best games I have EVER played, the graphics are unbelievable, the dual-wield is ingenious!!!, the warthog is kinda the same as last year but this year there are two different kinds of warthogs. One is equipped with a regular machine gun in the back and the other has a cannon in the back --a M68 Gauss Cannon to be exact. The tank is way better then last year. It has better controls and if you don't watch your back an enemy could jump on the tank and throw you off. The ghost and banshee are the also vulnerable for attack from an enemy, for example an enemy could jump on your banshee and kick you off or punch you off. But the best part is YOU CAN DO THE SAME EXACT THING BACK. To be honest, I think last years assault rifle is way better. This years rifle you only get like 4 shots per time and then you have to stop and then shoot agian. Im on the ninth level and stiil haven't experienced the Spectre , shadow and wraith which are new vehicles like the banshee but from what I can see in the manual, WAYYYY better.I have one hint for HALO 2 players. I hate those hunters that always come in pairs and take a long time to kill. Well all you do is go up to one and start hitting it with the biggest gun you can find by pressing "B". Note- The other hunter will not hurt you while you are kicking the otherones butt. It may sound crazy but it WORKS. | Halo 2 | | X-13 from Maryland,USA says (27/Mar/2003): | Well, there is absolutely no way I could have played this already, but I have a demo disc with the preview on it. I am writing this to convince those unsure that they should get it when it comes out next year. If you have ever played HALO than you know how great of a game it is! Well this will be that times 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999. It will be the best game ever created. The graphics are sweet and the lighting effects are beautiful. If you have seen the preview you know what I mean. The story line in 1 and 2 has been awarded the best storyline ever in a game. The soundtrack is also awarded number one in any game. The graphics are so good that it literally looks like you are looking at the real world through some crummy 24" tv screen. The master chief is the main charactor and in HALO you crash land an an alien planet and have to fight brutally to get out alive and without leading them back to Earth. In Halo 2, they got to Earth and now you have to defend it. NOTE: Do not play HALO 2 unless you have played through Halo. This is very important. If you do then you will not understand or appreciater Halo 2 nearly as much. I am very thankful to have gotten the first one and now am really looking forward to the second. The multiplayer is very fun as well. You can do co-op, split-screen, or system link. In Halo 2 you will be able to play on XBOX LIVE. This is a must have BUT remember, I warned you not to play Halo 2 unless you've played through all of HALO! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
| HALO 2 IS THE BEST GAME YET | | Partick Mullen from NY says (3/Mar/2005): | Halo two is a really cool game. There are not many things that could have been improved in it. I think that it should have been an option to use the fuel rod gun in multiplayer. I think having a pelican or a Conveant Dropship in the game would be kool, but i understand how it would have been extremelly hard. Dual weilding is really cool and all the weapons are very well balanced. The fuel rod gun would be cool on the banshee but mabye it would cause too much "HAVOC" It is hard to imagine too much havoc in the game of halo but maybe it is true. The campaign for the second halo was sorta a dissapointment, but it was still amusing, just not even close to as epic as the first one. I think that there should be more large scale attacks and more vehicles. I am not dissing hte campaign, only giving suggestions. I think that if you could have 32 player halo it would be the absolute coolest thing ever, it would be so much warfare and gunfare, i would love it. You would still be able to put the max players to lower than 32, but if you wanted to be hardcore you could have 32 people. If you can just imagine how much fun it is to play with 15 of your other friends, imagine playing with 31 of your friends, the action would never let up leading to more large scale attacks and increased teamwork. THe graphics in halo 2 are really cool, as well as all the new sound affects. The medlas are also a really kool idea. I am very excited for halo 3 and also very pleased with halo 2. Peace out

Halo 2 on legendary really isn't that hard. the first level was almost imposable but that was just almost at best. plus the added secret scull collecting task is an added bonus to make it even more of a challenge, since you can only get them in the levels when your playing on legendary, and a little bit more fun... if you haven't heard of the sculls you should look it up. actually, John it might be over your head or to hard for you to comprehend so you might not want to. anyway I thought the game was a good answered to everyones,"how are they going to improve on the original halo", question? because halo was a very well put together game, and hard to top. lets see you come up with something a lot better. not only that but make it so great that it is almost impossible to top and everyone raves and rants about it for years. oh and then, lets see you come up with a sequel to that game that blows your mind away. oh and then lets see you answered to some punk kid that is from New Hampshire that probably loved the game but doesn't have any self confidence about him-self to stand up to his friend that said he didn't like the game, so he has to formulate his own thinking around something that someone else said. Anyway I'll go for now but remember this John,! when you go to bed sucking your thumb and knowing that your putting down of halo 2 changed the world forever, people will still play it and will not remember you in the morning.

THE 1:ST LVEVEL youre on cairo station in the space! that mac-gun!! molzar and athens is the two mac-gun that is exploding! the second and third youre on the EARTH!! you fight on the earth! not the ring! and first of all!! spartan-117 can carry all the weapons existing in the game.. and the arbitar? he can carry evry thing he to! he carries human weapons and plasma scorage! all weapons! you have apperently not played halo at all... halo 2 is a grand game! in RL (reallife) it got a 10 out of 10 becouse of all you can do on it. an the game graphics engine is the most advenced tech! ever! the new battle field silent heroes that is a military unit simulator has that engine bocouse this planet have not come with some thing better than this ever! its almost like an animated move! take a look! in the first halo you were on the ring all the time! it was the first level! when you were in space! training you sens look!ppl that hate halo have not been playing it! It took me almost 3 hours to get home from the video game store. I played it thinking omg this is so freakin' cool! then the covenant part came in... I was hopeful thinking alright this seems cool. Then I played them all of the time for 10 mins each... I beat Normal in 2 hours... WHAT THE HELLS WITH THAT? I WOULD NOT BUY THIS GAME IF I DID NOT HAVE XBOX LIVE!!! IT SUCKS WITHOUT SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH. Bungie I worshiped you... I'm angry that you would do this to your fans. Anyways to waist the 200 words Ill tell you about all the flaws.
I started it off inside of the base hmm familiar. Then our pod crashes even more familiar. Last thing that ticked me off was the fact that I killed everything in one shot with the battle rifle. Talk about head shots. Dual weilding was pretty enjoyable but what i really loved was the sword. The only problem with the sword is that sometimes you miss, MISS? HOW DO YOU MISS WITH A HUGE SWORD. BUT THE THING THAT REALLY TICKED ME OFF WAS THAT THE LASER SWORD DID NOT KILL THE HUNTER IF YOU HIT HIM IN THE BACK IT DID NOT KILL HIM IN ONE HIT!!! ok Everything else is good expecially multiplayer multiplaer is beast! Ok its a good game for multiplayer u dont have friends that get drunk every weekend and come over or if you dont have xbox live dont get this game. Unless ur a great fan like me.

So the ending was a total let down but you have to think of why bungie did what they did. Have you stopped to think of what Halo 3 has in store.
Halo 2 was of the hook, especially with the multiplayer maps and vehicles. The game was mainly made for multiplayer and you have to give bungie props for that. I couldn't think of anything to say about the new guns and enemies. The new guns arent really an improvement but copies of the others in halo1 for instance the carbine was a let down with no fullauto and only twelve shots that was just dumb, not to mention the brute shot was terrible in both campaign and multiplayer battles if you ask me its like going into the battle field with butter knives. But overall the game rocked and they could only make a few adjustments such as the ending and more levels with both the masterchief and arbiter which better be in Halo 3. The arbiter levels were pretty dull do to the lack of stories. Another thing that would make Halo 3 an even better trinity is if they give it at least one major battle where flood,covenant,and humans are all in the field shooting one another(and maybe even sentinels). I hope cortana shows up again because she was the main character in halo other than the masterchief but she did squat in Halo2 due to the Arbiter levels. So Halo 2 rocked and no one better say otherwise.

I read the other reviews, but guys listen to me, they know nothing, this game is gonna be so much better than nayone can imagine, the graphics wepaons and vehicles are out of this world... How do I know, I tested the game in Microsoft warehouse in California! I tell ya, when I swa the opening to the game, I was hooked. All the levels were beaten for me so I chose the coolest looking one and kicked butt. THe weapons were incredible! I got to use the laser sword and slashed the stupid ass grunts into pieces. THe assault rifle is a mix between a sniper and machine gun, the pistol, unfortunately, is gone. I suggest higly to any game cube owners or PS2 losers to get Xbox. Good idea, yes? The settings are off da hook, moon, earth, undergorund, sky fights, riding in covenant tanks and cars with pelicans flying by your side. Snapping necks of Burbles and jumping to the side while firing wildly at elites. climbing walls and picking off grunts with the machine gun/ sniper rifle. Using swords to run hunters thourgh, kicking grunts out of their seats and jumping on while pulling marines to the gunner seats, blowing up buildings while elites pour out of drop ships... man I could go on and on. You know what, the date for the release is questionable, but a sign said for march or april. YOu know I have one reserved. Get one your self! You know this helped well!

i think you need to be able to take the hunters weopons. And the energy sword doesnt need to run out of ammo.I loved all the hidden secrets and skulls. But thes skulls need to do cooler things like unlimited ammo and stuff like that. Or turn plasma rifles to scarab guns. You need to be able to drive the scarab at some point is the game. I think the flood should not have come back. The hunters need to be a lot harder(no orange spots or smaller ones). I think the plasma pistols need to be alot more powerfull. I loved the battle rifle and duel weilding magnums was auesome. I realy like the new gauss turret on the wart hog. The beam rifle and sniper were auesome! You really need to be able to shoot dropships down! and drive the phantoms. In multiplayer you need the banshee bomb and need to be able to have a phantom on xbox live for a huge attak. And carry a fuel rod cannon like a rocket launcher. And on campain and multi player you need to be able to use the sescondary guns on the wraith. The smgs could have been better and killed faster. the shotgun was like the best weopon in the world. I realy like how you can customize your games alot better. The banshee needs to go a little faster. Other than those things i mentioned the game kiked but!!!!!!!!!
