All around good, solid Buffy fun | | Tommy from New York, USA says (14/Sep/2003): | I havent played the first game, being a Playstation owner ever since it first came out, so I cant compare. All I know is that the first one is considered so much better. Well I wouldnt know but it sounds like I was better off NOT playing the first one cause all I would be doing is complaining how different it is from the second one. First off... BUY THE STRATEDGY GUIDE. Prima published a nice one - with extended character bios and histories, detailed maps of all 12 levels and enough hints and cheats to wrap your brain with. I made it to level four before I had to buy it. Just swallow your pride and buy it, it helps so much. All I hear is how frustrated everyone is, and yea, its hard...the puzzles are long and hard to figure out, the bosses (Evil Anyanka, Kakistos, Adam, Vampire Tara and Ripper)are damn tough...but if you know what to do they are easy as pie, mostly Evil Anyanka....for all those who took try over try trying to beat her...all ya had to do is throw one bottle of Hell Fire at her and she died instantly. All thanks to Prima. As everyone has said, the story line is awesome. I myself am an obsessive fan of Buffy and they did a such great job incorporating that the game took place during the fifth season of the show. Example: Joyce's passing, Willow and Tara's relationship and well as Xander and Anya's, Giles owning the Magic Box, Faith being in jail..it was all good and fit the story line extremly well. The voice overs were great except for Anya..she sounded nothing like Emma Caulfield. Buffy's voice-over was real good and I personally thought Willow's was fine too. The ass-kicking action was like non-stop, which I enjoyed. It honestly got a lil' scary at times. Baddies poping outta no where. The controls would shake when a Zombie-Demon, Bat Beast, etc would be coming after ya so you get a heads up and know its time to whip out the stakes. And the vampires (95% of the time) either would roar or say somthing witty (well stupid) when they were coming at you. Like "Fancy meeting you here" or "Gunna get me some of that".
The fact that you could play as six characters (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Spike, Faith and Sid the Dummy) was cool... but I personally would have just rathered to have been Buffy the whole time. She was the easiest to control and kicked the most ass. The levels were very detailed and very well made to look like it does in the show. My favorite was seeing the SUN (Sunnydale) Movie Theater just as it appears like a million times in the show. Putting that all aside, yea, the game did have it's low points and at times just plain sucky parts. The main thing that bothered me the most about this game is that most of the levels were so damn dark. You can barely see anything at some points in most to all of the levels. You have to find and pick up alot of key items, crucial to moving foward in the levels...but most of the time you cant see them or anything for that matter! The stratedgy guide was what helped me..I would have been lost in the dark (literally) without it. Also the whole no save thing unless you beat the whole level was crap. The levels were pretty hard and yea you DO get continue points but no save point until the level is complete. And the levels are LONG...I cant play continuously for a long time..I get bored, so that really sucked for me. But the extras in the game topped all that. There is a huge image gallery with alot fo rare pictures that I never saw before on the web or anything, commentaries, interviews with Anthony Stuart Head (Giles), James Marsters (Spike), Amber Benson (Tara), Nicholas Brendon (Xander)and others. You even get to see them in the recording studio, doing the actual voice overs.
No matter what - if you are a Buffy fan this game is a MUST due to the extra's alone. I would even recommend this game to non Buffy fans. Although non-Buffy fanactics wont appreciate the extra's or storyline and basically wont have a clue about the plot of the game and who all the characters are...the action is awesome (If ya like to kill evil, ugly, dead things). And for the puzzle gamers, this also is a must because most of the levels are some of the most challenging, mind buggers I've ever played. All in all this game was very enjoyable and for me, worth every penny. I give it a solid 8. Exciting, challenging, a lil frustrating, but all around great Buffy fun. And yea, it WAS simply targeting to Buffy fans, Joss wanted to give the fans somthing...which is another example of why he's so awesome.
| so good yet so sucky | | Nick G from Newburgh, New York says (3/Sep/2003): | I was sooooo anxious for this game. I am a huge Buffy fan and I loved the first game. So after psyching myself up for months the game is very disapointing. First the good stuff, great story line! It was very smart to have Christopher Golden & Tom Sniegoski write the story. They have always done such a good job on the comics. It is so much fun to play as Willow, Zander, Spike, Faith & even Sid. Since each person has ther own fighting style it makes it even better. Sid is surprisingly fun to play, Willow's spells are really cool (even though she's tough to play in close quarter fighting) & Faith is just bad ass. (though her moves are really no diferent than Buffy's she has the best lines). The Graphics are good enough, the music is appropriatly atmosphearic. However, (now the bad stuff), The gameplay is crap. I mean it was flawed with the first game but for it to get worse. The fighting is akward and not near as smooth as the first game. You can't use the trigger to re-position yourself, so more often than not you end up kicking and punching air while you are being attacked from every side and to top it off you are almost constantly being ganged up on. Some of the puzzles take forever to figure out, So there are hours taken up just retracing your steps to try and figure out what you missed. (best example, Zander in the school, trying to find the key to open the cage in the library, Why was it in the princibles office and NOT THE LIBRARY???!!!!! I was looking in that damn library for 2 hours!!!!!) Now the voice acting. The cast of the show is pitch perfect as always. The lady who who does Buffy is perfect as she was in the first game, but Willow & Anya. OH MY GOD. Why does the girl who does Willow's voice sound like she is on horse tranquilizers? Although, I have to admit half way through the game I stopped caring. But the main problem is I am only half way through the game I can't move on. Was it the game designers intention to drive people to insanity. The boss fight at the end of Faith's board is freakin' ridiculous. With the crappy gameplay, fighting off Kikistos, two constantly regenerating zombies and having to destroy 3 balls of energy seriously seems to be impossible. I'm going to get the strategy guide and if it doesn't help me I'm going to be seriously ticked off!!! The first game was chalenging not frustrating. That's the whole thing about this game, there is so much good stuff, why did it have to be such a pain in my a**. They could have improved upon the first game and made it near perfect. Instead the added some really cool stuff, and let the rest go to pot. (I haven't even mentioned all the things that make me scream, kick and pull out my hair). Am I going to stop playing? Hell no!!! But will I have endless, fun filled, Buffy drenched nights like with the first game? I seriously doubt it.
| If you didn't like this game, you aren't a true Buffy fan | | Christina from Nanuet, NY says (12/Oct/2003): | I believe that this was an excellent game. I don't understand why everyone complains about the controls because I caught on in a second. Maybe I caught on so well because I never played the first one. But if you play video games, you should know that all games have different controls and you have to get used to them. The pros of this game were definitely being able to be 6 different characters. I wish we could have been them a little longer, but whatever. Being Willow was the best because there was like no way she could have gotten hurt because she throws fire at the enemies, therefore no Demon can come close to her. Anya's and Willow's voices were terrible done. Willow sounded like was on drugs or just slow, and Anya... well Anya's voice was just terribly done. Buffy's voice was similar to Sara Michelle Gellars voice, but the thing they mad her say were so not what Buffy would say. Some things were but some were just so gay. And Willow, half the time I had no idea what she was babbling about. But the game in all was fantastic. The storyline was awesome. The one thing though that I didn't understand was ok, if Buffy killed the First at the end of season 7, and this game was supposed to be focused around the time of season 5... how come she killed the First in season 5 and Cassandra said the First can't come back until a century later... but it came back in the show in season 7. It just makes no sense what so ever. That's why I didn't give this game a perfect score. I would recommend this game to non-Buffy fans, but only those who enjoy games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and other horror mystery games like that. Another reason I lowered the score is because of the Multiplayer games. I really like them, I just don't know how to Unlock the other 3 stages you can play on. I did really well and beat most of the levels in the actual game pretty fast and I kept getting the "Slayer" rating, so I don't understand why I didn't unlock the levels yet or some of the other muliplayers. Some of the bosses were quite difficult, half the time I didn't know how I figured out what to do to beat them, blind luck I guess. But, all in all this was a great game and I am going to start it again just because it was fun and interesting.
| Not as good as the first | | DeeDee from Paso Robles, CA says (8/Sep/2003): | OK, like everyone else here, I'm a huge Buffy fan and I loved the first game a lot better than this one. First of all, the plus side: The storyline was great and really consistant with the Buffyverse. I really liked being able to play each character and the challenge was fun learning how each had strong points and weak points. The graphics were pretty good. On all this I would have rated it a 10, but the bad points outnumbered them. The bad: You have to understand where I come from. I'm a Buffy fan, not a game-playing genious. So I expect that, like the first one, you have an easy, normal and difficult level to choose from depending on your abilities as a player. I'm personally not good at it so I would choose easy and be able to, with time, finish the game. No such luck, no choice, we all play the same on this one. The controls were a little funky at first, but you got a little used to it after a while. The final enemies at each level got ridiculiously hard and close to impossible to defeat and it felt like they were really cheating you half the time. Cheap shots etc. And we weren't given any hints on what to do, so you would sometimes wander around aimlessly for a while before seeing what you needed to do. I don't want to be babied, but I do need to have a clue here or there. And the worst thing I found was NO SAVING POINTS. You had to complete an entire level to save your game. That sucked! And some of these levels took me over an hour to complete.
So, if you like Buffy, yes, you'll like this game to a point. But after that, you're ready to chuck it out the window and give up. If you're good at video games, I recommend it. If you're mainly a Buffy fan, watch someone else play it.:)
| If Chaos Bleeds, somebody get a bandaid STAT !!! | | Markus from Brisbane, Australia says (30/Nov/2003): | Buffy 2: Chaos Bleeds was advertised as one of the coolest games ever to be released across all platforms. The coolest? hardly... this game was actually quite good but there were certain elements that could have been tweaked thus mending the problems. Yes the camera orientation SUCKED ASS !!! having to swivel around and then being limited by things in the way was a pain. Voices, well i hardly think that Emma Caufield was to busy to record what? 4 lines for Anya/Anyanka and what was up with Willows voice c'mon. At least Buffy got rid of the line after killing a demon/vamp "Ah i feel like a new slayer" cause after 10 mins of that after every kill i was ready to throw her off a cliff. But thankfully Faith was brought into the picture. Control wise Willow was very annoying. Her tendancy to be slow with spells and moves wore thin QUICK. Sid was a crack up to fight as tho.
Storywise it was very cool to see the worst person ever to face the scoobies. But i was sure that Glory was spose to be in it. Oh well. Also one last thing, if this has been cleared up im sorry but the first review on this site asking about the first. Buffy could never kill the first, like Cassandra said at the end of the game. And if the game is based after series 5 then obviously the first set its plans into action because of buffy's resurestion that weakened the slayer line. DUH !
| I love Buffy and the game | | d_grl_ho_scrms from Hong Kong says (13/Sep/2003): | Okay, I just really had to give out my say. I'm not the one playing the game but my boyf is because I always seem to DIE (we love buffy! Well he likes to watch angel actually). I'm not good with the controls and I don't wanna be. I'm more of the spectator and the NO don't GO THERE or Look at that box kind of person!
My advice to those who wants to play this game:
1. Make sure you've got the DVD or VHS of all the buffy series.
2. Watch it all again.
3. Make sure you played a bit of tomb raider
4. Find a buffy expert (i would rate myself 6 0ut of 10)
5. You have patience and food
We've been playing this very addictive game for 4 days and all I can say is. ITS damn GOOOOOD! I love everything about it and the storyline is DAMN GOOODDD too! It sometimes take 3 hours to find the bits and peices but when you do, you feel like you became a lil' bit smarter. I hope they can do more about the cam angle but it's really that good. Its good for all buffy fans but if your not. I'll think twice about buying the game.
But all in all I wish BUFFY never ended but thanks to those people who made it easier for me to face the fact that its done by giving us this game. JOB WELL DONE! Thank you thank you.
| Doesn't live up to the hype | | A gamer from Chicago, IL USA says (29/Aug/2003): | A mediocre game at best. I was expecting something truly special. Did no one else actually PLAY the game before giving it stunning reviews? Yes, if you're a fanboy, you'll love everything about the game. However, the game controls are subpar compared to the last game. Movement is extremely slow. Point of vision is also subpar. Unlike the first game, when you could click the trigger to immediately orientate yourself, this game won't allow you. Instead you have to swivel the "joystick" around like an old school Tomb Raider game. The vocals get old even faster than the original. Five minutes into the game I'd already heard the same line out of Buffy's mouth about ten times.
Things that are nice are the graphics and the story line is better. It is much cooler to have the ability to play more characters. They stayed true to character form and made Xander just as incapable of handling himself as he is in the show. My bet is that he will be the least favorite character to play.
Overall, the real lack of controller-ease hurts what should have been a 10 for 10 game.
| Buffy Chaos Bleeds What A Great Game!!!!!! | | Knuckles from Usa says (11/May/2004): | This Game is a must get for all buffy fans if you don't like it your not a buffy fan its got good graphics fun multiplayer and a good game story the good things are heaps of people to choose from, lifespan 2 months at the least, great graphics and gameplay the bad things are it can become confusing and hard at times, Wheres Dawn? , not the real anya voice thats it for the bad things the game is good but there can be the ocansional glitch(happpend 2 me twice) its got good gameplay and it has its funny moments Faith is my fave char i reckon she is pretty funny there are people such as(playable) Willow, Buffy, Xander, Spike, faith and Sid (non playable) Giles And Anya and does any1 know all of willows spells and button combinations if so can u plz email me and tell me them preferably xbox codes
Faith And Buffy Are Practicaly the Same Person only looks different the moves are the same the stanee is the same its a great game and any1 who buys it will enjoy it and its funny commentary
| Good Game | | JadziaDragonRider from Philadelphia says (30/Aug/2003): | I am a big fan of BTVS so I waited with baited breath to get it the day it came out. I was able to move through the first 3 or 4 levels pretty swiftly. The puzzles are pretty good. They seem to make sense are logical (Eventhough as we speak I have been stuck for several hours on one board!) the graphics are good but the lighting effects are flat and a bit unclear. Things that should stand out in the foreground don't always do that. Plus there are unrealistic abilities. We've seen Buffy jump incredible distances yet she jumps the same distance as Xander and Willow in the game. Plus Willow and Xander throwing vampires? Ummm please. The extras are incredible, Interviews from Joss, James, Amber, Robn, and Anthony. I can't wait til I can unlock the last extra and watch the voice over outtakes! Overall this is a good game (the camera switching makes my stomach hurt at times) despite the shortcomings.
| godd but frustrating! | | Jonathan from Philadelphia, USA says (28/Aug/2003): | i was so excited to buy this game. I am an avid Buffy fan and loved the first game so much so u can imagine my excitement when i found out i could play as buffy willow xander or faith. I could care less about sid lol. Anyway the game is great except for the fact that i spend half of the game trying to figure out where to go. There is minimal "slaying" this games should be called "Buffy the Puzzle Solver". Don't get me wrong, I love this game, i just wish it didnt take me 2 hours to figure out how to move on in a level. Also i miss being able to redirect the camera by hitting the "r" button now i have to fool around with the joystick trying to see if im about to be attacked by a vamp. Love the game itself. Hate the controls. Hate the puzzles. Hate the obviously not anya or willows voice. Buffy's voice over is still great!! Great game but very frustrating!
| Excellent Sequel | | Mnbear from Minneapolis, MN says (30/Aug/2003): | This game sequel has bested the first by adding an intriquing storyline (everyone knew who the big bad was in the first game within the first level of playing), dynamic characters, excellent graphics, and sound that strikes at the right mood for the scene. Some people have indicated that they cant re-orient the camera, which is untrue, had they READ THE MANUAL, you'd notice that by pushing down on the camera stick control it reorients to the direction Buffy is facing. The controls have shifted a little, and while there are some improvements, those used to the first game will take awhile to get used to the changes. When rating this game, I took into consideration that the only frustrating thing I found to be in the game was the control system, however, that was because I was used to the first games controls. To me this is an almost perfect game.
| So NOT as good as the first game! | | James from Los Angeles, Ca USA says (31/Aug/2003): | I have been a fan of Buffy since it started as a television show in 1997. I was extremely anxious to by the new game and seeing the trailers prior to it's release, I figured it would be a great sequel to the original. But after the first ten minutes of the game, I was sorely mistaken. Not only are the voice overs terrible (Willow & Anya), but the controls are very confusing compared to the original. I agree with the fact that this is more of a puzzle solver than an action game. Plus, the speed and camera angles are very annoying since you can't tell if your are about to get attacked. But at least you can play more characters! LOL
| This Game rocks | | A gamer from England says (6/Mar/2004): | This game is wicked and is definatly better than the first. The only problem I found was that if you didn't complete the level then you had to start th level all over again which is annoying if you haven't got enough time or can't defeat the boss and you want to try again later. I was disappointed when I didn't get to be Giles or Anya but I was impressed by the other charaters on the gam My favorite charaters were Faith and Sid it was fun being little and it was easier to kill vampires as Sid than I thought. So all in all this game is well worth having and the Extras are ace too.
| if you loved this game you are a 100% buffy fan | | daniel edwards from wolverhampton, england says (9/Jan/2005): | i loved his buffy game even though some bits made me want to pull my hair out. this game runs on like one big buffy episode and i think that is why i loved it so much. u will agree that all of willows levels were the hardest and the mall one is rock after u have got that key from the demon. but i managed to get past it and complete the buffy game even though it seemed to take forever to get cassandras body parts. buffy was my favourite character because she is hot. u will love this game even if u aren't a buffy fan. trust me.
| Buffy the Xbox player | | jonathan mc erlean from Randalstown, N.Ireland says (12/Jul/2003): | even though I havn't even played it yet, i can tell from the game clips and screenshots it will be class! and if what they tell us on the web sites about it are true it will be far better then the first! i meen when you play the game with buffy and complete it, the game isn't over like the first, you can play it 5 more times again with Willow, Spike, Sid, Fiath and Xander!!! and there are supposed to be mulitplayer games aswell to play along with friends! I can't wait until it comes out in August!
Highly Recomended!!!!
| Chaos Bleeds will rock! | | Vampire Slayer from Los Angeles, CA says (28/Jul/2003): | "Buffy The Vampire Slayer 2: Chaos Bleeds" is going to be one of the best action/adventure game that has ever been created. Eurocom, its developer, has added so many new features the first one lacked. It's going to have multiplayer, like: survival mode, bunny catcher, slayer challenge, domination, and more. Also, you get to play as : Buffy, Faith, Spike, Willow, Xander, and Sid the Dummy (from season 1). All in all, this game will offer so much more then the first and will be one of the best action games out there.
| Best Game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Adrian Valmonte from Lancaster, california,United States. says (31/Aug/2003): | Okay I bought this game at Electronic Boutiques and this game is all about butt kicking. You first have to start out in the magicbox. and buffy is killing the vampires . than she tells them to do somethinh. so each of the gang have their mission. what I like is being willow because she has helpful spells although she only has seven of them. I'm right now Zander. I have to save the peope. It's very hard saving them because there allover the place.
| Chaos Bleeds, Buffy Please | | Cassie says (1/Sep/2003): | I find this game very good aside from the lousy controls. I have enjoyed the story that goes along with the butt-kicking buti find that the controls weren't made as well as the first game, i think the makers realized this because the demons are also much easier to kill. All in all this game was a good buy but i wouldn't tell a non-buffy fan to buy it because they would find the storyline pointless.
| I Think Its A Very Good Game!!!!! | | Marcel from Holland says (27/Aug/2003): | Buffy, The Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds, must be better than the first game. It has more modes, more players and more stuff. I've seen clip and images and I think the graphics are very good. I didn't expect that Faith would be in the game but she is. And I really like that. Bunnycatcher, Team Survival, Last Man Standing & more modes. I think I allready like the game, and I didn't even play it yet.
