weak | | Miguel from Los Angeles says (4/Apr/2004): | Ok don’t get me wrong I like a good 3rd person shooter and why not its dope to see max payne pump his shootie after he takes out two thugs in "bullet time" slo – mo…. I mean come on that $#< remove me > at ! is hot. Now metal arms on the other hand is more like a “clock in - clock out” kind of gaming experience. Ok …imagine your playing a game like max payne but your fighting toothpick men with a gumdrop for a torso and gumdrops at the end of all four limbs. So when you shoot at them you have to be right on or really close if you’re using the rocket launcher, rivet gun, or grenades. Not to mention that they blend in to the surrounding environment due to jagged polygons and in some levels the clashing of so many colors. The primary and secondary weapons interface is not the greatest. When you want to change guns in metal arms you hit and hold “B” button witch stops everything and then cycle until you find your piece and when you let go of “B” button the gun fight with the invisible gumdrop men continues. In my opinion weaponry on the fly is always a better way to go. When you’re in the middle of a heated gun battle the last thing I want to do is pause to change my gun… I rather run for cover while changing straps in real time. I know that you can preset up to four weapons on the d-pad but then you have to let go of the left control stick which leaves you just standing there for a second or two while you remember if the rocket launcher is up or left on the d-pad (not to mention something like 17 or 18 other weapons you can preset*sigh*). Metal arms is a bit on the linier side when it comes to completing most of the levels. For example you start a level and you see a robot in a turret gun, you destroy it and take its place at the turret gun at witch time five regular sized robots and a larger then average sized robot comes out and you kill them, if you try to proceed without using the turret gun you will end up dead %99.9999999 of the time.
Well in this case unfortunately for me im the type of gamer that finishes what he starts. And im glad after 38+ levels (including driving levels) that it’s over. I’m giving 3 stars for multiplayer mode and that’s about it.
| Once you go Glitch, you never go....um....well, you get it. | | Mitch from Atlanta, GA USA says (18/Mar/2004): | Swinging Ape Studios doesn't exactly have what you would call a "good" track record when it comes to past projects. The only one I can even remember was Arctic Thunder on PS2, and I wish I COULD forget that. Needless to say, my expectations for Metal Arms were not astoundingly high. I was expecting an unploished, lackluster third-person shooter along the lines of Brute Force, but what I got was a swift kick in the pants by an excellent, fast-paced, action-packed romp of a game. MA casts you in the role of Glitch, a robot on a distant planet fighting the forces of the evil General Corrosive. Right from the beginning you can tell that MA is a cut above most other third-person shooters. The controls are extremely tight and responsive, and the camera never seems to give you a problem. Glitch may look like a nice little Jetsons-style robot, but if you look at him wrong, he'll make you pay big time. One of the most satisfying feelings in all of gamedom is blowing up an enemy in MA. The enemy robots explode with an impressive display of flaming metal shrapnel that flies everywhere. It really is a nice effect. Glitch has a rather impressive array of weaponry available, too. His choices range from standard machine guns to rocket launchers to flame throwers and sniper guns. One of my favorite guns in the game is a weapon called the control tether that lets posses certain enemy robots. Add in a killer multiplayer mode with real-time vehicular combat, and you can't lose (Halo). From the visuals, to the gameplay, to the multiplayer modes, MA really shines. Plus it has cussing robots. I mean, c'mon. ROBOTS who swear! What's better than that, right? Go pick up this game, or some robot might call you a bad name.
| Mini Halo | | Stringer from Rhode Island, RI says (4/Dec/2003): | Glitch is so far one of my favorite games for x-box, Halo of course being the first. Glitch plays like a mini halo with the same control style, gaming differs quite a bit with the ability to "reprogram" other bots to your side, take over other bots, several vehicles to fly, and several levels that are not played as the main character. Its a game with good humor, creative weapons, and creative game play. Graphics are good, not up to halo par, but non the less xbox quality.

It had great graphics,great guns and great controls kind of like Halo. It had something eles that no other game had. It had a control tether. This gun could jack into bots and you would be able to use their special powers. This game is one of the best Shooting games I have played in a long time.(besides Halo)
