This game is so hot you'll wanna smack your momma | | Sagian from Greenville, NC, USA says (17/Apr/2004): | Finally a ninja game that truly allows you to become a ninja! All you Tenchu fans know what I'm talking about. I bought an xbox just to play this game, and honestly I feel the cost was cheap. Me and my boys cracked out with this game for 4 days straight and now we're goin through on hard. Huge props to Team Ninja, man you guys are my heros. For years I've waited for a game that could move as fast as I could think. The gameplay for the fighting aspect is about as real time as you can get, understand that you must have skill to truly appreciate the ability of this programming, learn the techniques, master them, and you will own all in the game. When you can take the first boss Murai head on without wall techniques you'll know what I mean. The blocking is fast, realistic to the skills of a ninja, and should become your best friend. Unlike most fighting games block works like it should with no exceptions, but understand it is realistic, trying to block boss super attacks and flying pieces of columns will only give you false hope and a headache. The controls of the game imbue you with the qickness and agility of a true ninja, do not apply old methods here, we have waited years for this kind of programming dont let it go to waste. As for the story line of the game...EPIC!!! The graphics are a masterfull blend of realism and fantasy, they leave no room for error due to poor imagery. The fact that this game is highly difficult even on normal makes beating it a real accomplishment, and that feeling is hard to get from most games these days. It is plain to see that Team Ninja engineered this masterpiece with true gamers in mind, and boys we salute you! As far as the conterversy surounding the camera angle issue goes I have a few words of advice. First I'll let you in on a little secret I like to call "The art of the Right Trigger Button", second the use of proper techniques and movement strategy when fighting enemies usually results in adequate manipulation of the camera veiw without ever having to use the right trigger button. Now if this is not happening for you then I suggest you make some changes to the way you approach your battles. Use of Ninpo skills, jump attacks, and throws when dealing with crowds, should give you the oppertunity to adjust your camera and map enemy placement. One last tip, if you lose sight of an enemy or are not attacking you should be holding block, even if your back is turned to the enemy Ryu will automatically adjust to block the attack or attacks. Most of all pay attention to details it will keep you from getting lost as far as what to do next. Overall it has been a while since I have enjoyed and appreciated a game all around as I do this one. I think its gonna be quite a while before they can top this one!
| This game will kick your butt...and you'll love it! | | Mitch from Atlanta, GA USA says (12/Mar/2004): | Every so often a game will come along that seems to be a cut above the competition in just about every way. Ninja Gaiden is one of those games, and it really comes as no surprise seeing as how it was developed by Tecmo's Team Ninja, who are the creative geniuses behind the Dead or Alive fighting games. DOA 3 is still one of the best looking titles on any system and it launched with the Xbox back in Fall 2001.
NInja Gaiden is one of the most meticulously crafted games I've ever played. There are so many great things about it, but let's start with the graphics. This game looks incredible. Period. No one can argue that. Team Ninja definitely knows how to program for the Xbox. It moves at a solid 60 fps with an occasional slow-down, and I mean very occasional. The character models are brillaintly rendered down to the last detail, and that includes the protagonist, Ryu, and all the enemies. The environments are equally stunning. The only complaint I have visually is that there are no really impressive lighting effects, but that's just me being nitpicky. I have never felt more in control of a game character than I have with Ryu in NG. The controls are uber-responsive and even a novice will fell impressed with the type of moves they can pull off with relatively no game experience. The button layout makes a s much sense as possible, too. I love the block/defend button, and you will too, trust me. One problem that I noticed while playing is that the camera will give a few headaches throughout the course of the game. The camera follows Ryu, for the most part, but in order to keep an advantageuos view you must continually hit the R trigger to recenter the camera. At first this doesn't seem like a problem, but later in the game you will wish the camera system had received a little more TLC form Team Ninja. Personally, I love this game. It's up in my top five favorites of all time, despite it's controller-throwing difficulty. Once you play it, you'll know what I mean. If you even marginally enjoy action games, and you own an Xbox, you MUST play this game so you don't feel left out when your fellow NInja srike up a conversation about NG at the nerdery. Don't miss out on this game, or you'll miss one of the best action games ever.
| I love Ninjas!!!! | | Jason from Eaton, Rapids, Michigan says (26/Mar/2004): | Well, I picked up the newly relaeased Ninja Gaiden game and I knew this game was gonna be off the chain!! I played and I have beaten the game, and was it a journey! In the beggining of the game you dont get much information on what the true purpose of some villians are in the game, except that they want the Dark dragon Blade and want to make hell on earth (same story different game) But this game makes you wanna play further, it makes you wanna know what is gonna happen next and who the hell is the Dark Disciple? I know! but I aint gonna spoil it for the people who havent beat it. Yea, their are times when it is hard and frustrating fighting the bosses and enemies, but that what makes a good game i belive. To have a gamer use all the skill he has and even gain some more skill after playing the game into Ninja Gaiden. Now some people have a problem with the camera angles, yea sometimes its a pain, but it makes your fingers move fast, and it makes ya think quickly, so if you have bad reflexes and coordination, this game will be a big help to those people who lack in that area.
Like I said the story unfolds througout the game, dont give up! You will love what comes out of it. But I love plot twists, I wish they had a little more, even though their were quite a few times where I said "Oh Hell!! No he/she didnt!! That ass is gonna pay for that!!!
I guess you will have to rent or buy it to see for yourself, oh and the replay value of the game is very high, like i said I beat the game and Im starting a new game b/c of a special bonus you get for beating the game.
SO DONT GIVE UP!! SHOW THEM PUNKS IN THE GAME YOU ARE THE BADDEST NINJA IN TOWN!!
| Ninja Gaiden... Great? To an extent | | Brent from Milwaukee, Wisconsin says (14/Mar/2004): | The fact of the matter is, there are many games we play and love. Though Ninja Gaiden had the potential to be one've the best games ever made... Tecmo messed up slightly. To say that Ninja Gaiden is better than Prince of Persia is a huge overstatment. The game itself is great, however one thing makes the game go down on the fun factor so much, it almost isn't worth playing... that thing is the camera angle.
Graphics: 10/10
To say the Graphics are superb would be right on. Ninja Gaiden features some of the XBOX'S greatest graphics to date... just look at that blood splatter!
Sound: 9/10
The Fact of the matter is... the sound is great. Decent music and nice sound effects make the sounds almost as nice as the graphics.
Control 3/10
This was the biggest problem with the game. When you fought bosses and turned around, you couldn't see where you were going! The moves that you can do were great, but the problem is that you cannot see anyone you fight, bringing the game itself down in playability.
Fun Factor: 8/10
Though the camera angle is horrible, the game still features a number of fun things to do.
Overall (Not An Average!): 6/10
The game features some of the best graphics to date, and some of the best sound to date as well. The problem is all in the camera angle. The horrible camera angle made me want to throw the controller down and scream at my tv... and i did in fact do just that... Still, if you can get past that, the game is fairly solid. Still though, if you're looking for an awesome game where you can run up walls and do awesome moves... stick with Prince of Persia.
| Ninja Gaiden is hard, but very fun! | | MASTER NINJA from MO, USA says (31/Mar/2004): | Ninja Gaiden is an awesome game. This game is worth the value you pay for it! Some parts are extremely hard but, no matter how many times you die you'll want more trust me. There are ways to make the game easier on you like: (1. Learn to use walls wisely (2. Know the right times to attack (3. Know the right times to block (4. In difficult situations use your Ninpo powers thats why they are there! (5. Learn your weapons strengths and weaknesses (6. Learn which weapon will best fit the situation your in. Some parts are extremely difficult but dont quite trying you will eventually beat it. Personally I do not think the camera angles are as bad as everyone says. There was one part in the game so far I thought was the hardest. The Dragon Fiends and the boss that follows. To beat the D.Fs. run up the walls so they hit their heads on the walls and then jump off the wall and press Y when your directly above them. To beat the boss that follows stay by his arms and jump(while jumping push X or Y, I recomend the Dragon Sword.) When you cut off his arms collect the blue and red essence and do the special attack with the yellows.Dont be afraid to use your Ki powers( I thought the one were he shoots fire balls from his hands worked best). I am currently on the I think the 6th level and the zombies are freakin hard, and i have a feeling im about 20 minutes from a boss its hard as all get go, but I still love it.Overall I think everything about the game gets a 10 out of 10.
| Difficult, yet very fun! | | Chad from Jacksonville, USA says (8/Mar/2004): | This game is very fun to play, and is very advanced. You get to play as a ninja who protects a deadly weapon, the Dragon Sword. But-It's sister sword, the Dragon Blade, gets captured after the second level of the game. I myself am only on the third level, and it is so much fun. I believe I will be at a boss only about 5 minutes further into the game, as all I have yet to do is get into the captain's corders(Bah.. spelling) and then I've been all over the map. In level three, you're on an airship (Blimp or Zeppelin) and you are flying over a city. You have to, I'd assume, get the craft to crash into the city. This game is set in present day I believe, as there are normal structures: lights, electronics, ect; and has a great plot with the hidden ninja village. The first level is mainly like training, teaching you the ropes. This game is very advanced, and allows you to do many maneuvers. Most of your combat is airborne, or wallborne, as to dodge most attacks merely running will not do. With these fights nearly all in the air, fighting becomes difficult. The fights usually go by relatively fast, but are crazy fun, as you can behead some men, depending on how much extra damage you do to them.
Overall, this game is very fun, and I would recommend to anyone-Buy This Game!
:)
| COME ON JUST ONE MORE HIT!!!!....NOOOOOOO IM DEAD!!!!! | | NinjaGod from Los Angeles, California, USA says (20/Mar/2004): | Alright people I've been a fan of ninja gaiden for so long i own alot of stuff all the ninja gaiden games 1-3 the ninja gaiden books the toys anything to do with it i have probably bought....and when i heard this game waz coming out i waz so freakin excited.....anyways i finnaly bought the game put it in and the graphics....holy sh*T they kick ass...the cut scenes are amazing the sound of your dragon sword entering your enemies body is great....and from the beggining of the game it is challenging...but trust me it takes time after you've adapted yourself to hit the r botton to fix your camera you'll be ready to kick some ass....im in chapter 5 and i have probably died about 84 times...but thats the beauty of it...i hate games in which i rarely die becuz then you know everyone else isn't dying but trust me....anyone who buys or rents this game WILL DIE more then 10 times...if you hate to die and hate a challenge then go back to playing you pokemon games you losers!....ninja gaiden is the best xbox game out right now! buy it!
p.s. the bosses are the hardest i have ever faced....its all about luck when you fight the bosses so don't give up people! becuz when you kill them theres an amazing cutscene after every boss battle!
| Leaves Me Speechless..... | | Maverick0194 from sweet USA baby says (9/Jun/2004): | Wow...this game is amazing! It is the coolest fighting style I have ever played. There are an unbelievalbe amount of combos you can do, and Ryu (the main character) is like a monkey. He runs on walls, water, and can jump of walls as part of combos. This is the fighting/adventure game in the world. This and Halo were the reasons that I bought the Xbox.
When you first play the game, you will see how powerful the graphics are. Amazing looking water and environment. But as soons as you start jumping off/running on walls you are going to laugh. Not b/c it sucks but because he runs of the walls and stuff like its the ground. It's so funny how agile and "ninja like" he is.
The first boss is really hard to beat, but here's a tip. Get into a corner and keep jumping of the wall and hit him coming down. Do it repeadalty thats how I beat him.
I still can't get over the fighting system. It's sooooo much fun. Man OK i'll stop raving about it now but PLEASE LISTEN TO ME AND GO AND BUY THE GAME, YOU WON'T REGREAT IT!!!!
| TECMO has outdone itself with the remake of a classic | | Ian from Yuma, AZ says (16/Mar/2004): | When I started seeing previews for Ninja Gaiden, I was instantly captivated on what I have seen. And I have started playing the game and I give the ratings based on the five major factors:
Graphics: 10/10 As they are extremely outstanding and well done!
The process of it I think was well thought out.
Sound: 8/10 Very good sound effects in this one here I believe.
Controls: 7/10 The controls seem to be difficult at times and they will take time to master, let alone get used to.
Storyline: 8/10(So Far) I am still playing the second chapter and I have yet to see how the rest of the story unfolds, but pretty good so far.
Replay Value: 9/10 This game will have you playing it again and again....It is very good.
Overall: 8/10 This game is well worth the money that I spent, but if you want to be careful and cautious, rent it first and see if you can get used to the game style. But if you are like me and go off instinct, go and purchase the game right now!
Kudos to TECMO for bringing back an absolute classic!!!!!
| This game is the illshnick | | Hellindefinite from Bloomfield,NJ,U.S.A says (14/Mar/2004): | Straight off the bat you will love this game no question, wanting to put your foot in the t.v is another question. The game is hard but you will love it.It has alot of enemies(ninja's]coming back at you especially at the points you don't want them to,but hey we want a challenge right.Worth your money and not boring,no stupid storyline great graphics, and alot of fun.Yes the camera angle will piss you off but you can deal with that and the fact that these ninja's know your moves as well as you do.See the ninja's chase you while you run,I did. This game makes you wanna challenge it and overcome the obstacle's it throws at you and you'll play and play it over and over again,I'm addicted and so will you be the first time you insert it in your system.I'm at this creature where he swallows this girl who had a twin and before I get to him I have to kill these three dragon monsters and a whole bunch of ninja's,this game is hard someone help me.
| -Cold Ninja Game- even your moma would like it punk | | $Teddy$ from Mil-town (MILWAUKEE)- south side says (14/May/2004): | ninja gaiden is a fun- well made ninja game. it is the best ninja game ever made (not counting old school side scrollers). anyone who likes stealth killer ninjas and has a box then you should get this game fool!!! it has perfect grahpics and beautiful levels with good control. but you have to keep pressing the right trigger to adjust the camera, but after a while that is no problem. there is plently of fighting moves and weapons the dispose of enimies. it has a weapon shop which is kinda slick. you can basicly do all of the moves as a real ninja would do. they is always plently of enimes to kill and bigg boses to conquer. ninja gaiden even has mini boses. the game doesn't get repeitive and is fun to play. the only con about ninja godamm it's hard is it is hard, but with experiance and concentration even you- young ninja rookie can can master the arts of true ninpo. Shinko-duken-hopatotomatsijii b*tches!!!!!
| A visually stunning and graphically superlative title for the Box. | | Barry Hilbert from Alberta, Canada says (29/Nov/2004): | The union of the Xbox's graphical capabilities and Team Ninja's
technical prowess is Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden. With stunning visual sights, great sound, and a slew of gameplay options, Ninja Gaiden is turning out to be one the Xbox's best-selling console games. No other console game to date has matched Team Ninja ability to reproduce pixels at a blisteringly fast 60 fps. This combine with the rich sound effects and the beautiful score for the game has made Ninja Gaiden a force to be reckon with.
So what am I trying to say? Well, if you like the perfect combination of exciting gameplay with lush graphics and beautiful sound then Ninja Gaiden is worth the $60 you'll need to spend on it. In the case where you don't have a clue what I'm trying to say in this review (I don't have a clue what I'm saying either) then just give Ninja Gaiden a rent at your local Blockbuster and see for yourself. You be the judge.
| Challenging, well done, re-make of Onimusha | | A gamer from Corpus Christi, TX USA says (25/Mar/2004): | This game is great - the sound, graphics, and fighting are all top-notch. It's also VERY challenging, so prepare to shout at your television, and find a soft place to throw your controller. As for the originality, I give it a 2 - this game is pretty much just Onimusha with jumping - the "karma" you collect, the WIDELY spaced save points, and running around levels looking for various "keys", all are just like the ones in Onimusha. In fact, when I was going through the second level, I came across a door I would have to wait until "later" to open, much like the early levels of Onimusha. All in all, I would say give this game a rent, and see if you thing the difficulty and lack of originality outweighs the outstanding experience of playing this great game.
| Great Great Game | | Brendan from Streamwood,IL says (16/Mar/2004): | OK, I have been waiting for this game to come out since I first heard about it in December. It finally came out and I bought it. I played it for no more than 5 minuites and I was amazed by the graphics and gameplay! There was only one problem though: This game is fricking hard. This game has 11/10 for graphics, 9/10 for sound, 8/10 for originality, 9/10 for gameplay, and 9/10 overall. If you are into good fighting games, buy this one. If you arent that great at games that take skill (like me), dont get it!
| its hard man but very fun | | A gamer from Covington,GA,USA says (6/Mar/2004): | Anyone that hates this game is a loser and should be shot. This game has awsom game play and graphics. Im still on the 2nd boss and i got it yesterday another thing i like is how fast the game play is even when u fight it is fast bye this game if u hav the money u wont regret it.
Graphics:10
gameplay:10
everything else:10
P.s buy this game or u are stupid thanks and bye!
| Ninja Gaiden Is Like THE BEST GAME | | ThE s][LenCeR from Canada says (17/Mar/2004): | Ninja gaiden is a must buy or rent game!! If u dont buy it u are a dumbass and if u do...then Good for u! I am only on the fourth chapter and it's getting hard. Not to mention my little brother keeps turning off the XBox.. I cannot wait till they make another ninja gaiden game! If anyone has some cheat codes or walkthroughs it would be apreciated!!
| One Hell of a Ride!!!!! | | A gamer from Milwaukee USA says (8/Apr/2004): | This game is a masterpiece. It will hold your attention from the start. However its not for the faint of heart, the first boss will kick your butt if you are not careful. The graphics are stupendous and most of the bosses are unreal. Stick with it though and you will love this game from start to finish!!!!
| one of the hardest games to beat, but fun | | jeff from houston says (13/Apr/2004): | this game is great, but the camera veiws kinda suck...the rest of the game is badass. the graphics were the best i ever saw, and the game was very realistic, but the camera angle brought it was down, it would have been a perfect 10 if it werent for the camera, other than that it was flot out awesome.
| Ninja Gaiden ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 | | Ryu from san luis, Az,USA says (19/Apr/2004): | i rent it yesterday and i am so sure that i'm going to buy it. the graphics and the game play are so unreal.
the bosses are huge out of this world .
It has a good story. you need to buy it or be a stupid the rest of your life.......
