Ninja Stealth Returns | | James from Rolling Meadows, IL, USA says (18/Mar/2004): | I picked this game up with a hankerin for some ninja killing action. I was pressed as to which game to buy, Ninja Gaiden or Tenchu. So I picked up Tenchu, I have an affinity for stealth games. I was not disapointed. This game has close to the same game play as Metal Gear Solid lore. It's a stealth fest!!
There are 2 characters you can choose from, and the levels vary with the characters you choose. Each Mission demands stealth and cunning. And trust me, you are rewarded for your stealth with abilities and new weapons with each time you complete a level. Stealth kills earn you Kanji, which if you collect 10 Kanji you earn new abilities and everything. However, once you reach the 10 kanji you don't get the kool animations you usualy get. The stealth is rather easy to master. You have meters to tell you how far your victims, I mean, enemies are from you. This is a BIG help, because they do not give you a radar.
However, when you are caught the fighting can get a little sticky. When you block you cannot move. This is bad if you have mulitiple combatants. You can get stabbed while jumping too and thats something that bothers me alot. The fighting however isn't all bad. It resembles that of how samurais actually fighted. And some of the special moves are pretty good. The shoulder throw is my favorite. If you're fighting a large group of people. you do the regular attacks and the 4th hit sends your enemy flying against the wall. Giving you time to deal with the others that you are fighting, or you can make a clean get away.
Overall, this game is defenetly worth picking up if you love games like Metal Gear Solid or the previous Tenchu games.
