Bad reviews, good game...41656

DarksjeiK from Roosendaal, Holland says (6/Jul/2004):
Why this game get's some of the bad reviews it gets on ign. com and gamespot.com will forever remain a mystery.. The game is awesome, you get 3 (that's THREE!!) huge cities that each put Vicy City to shame in terms of vast size, detail and realism.

Outside of that, let's see what you get for your money:

There's a storydriven play option
There's a free roaming option which includes various minigames like go-kart racing etc..
There's a drivinggames option
There's secret vehicles to uncover.
There's a director mode there's...etc etc.

The graphics are nothing short of phenomenal, the framerate is silkysmooth throughout the entire game..

All of this and the game STILL get's lousy reviews. It's been a long time scince I have seen a good game being beat down like this one. And the worst thing is, people have a habit of jumping the bandwagon, so when reviewers at ign.com and gamespot.com beat on a game, more reviewers will..

The main criticism they have is that the gameplay is "trial and error" Yeah right, and Splinter Cell isn't? I mean if you hate trial and error, isn't Splinter Cell a bad game than?? Answer: NO!! So dont't nag..

Another point they make is glitches/bugs. YES there's some glitches but what game of this scale doesn't have glitches? There is NEVER an instant where the gameplay is hindered by this!

The 3rd point they make is that the out-of-car control is bad?????????
People please... If you press the "back" button the view switches to 1st person and the game handles similar to any person shooter on xbox/PS2, left stick for movement, right stick for aiming so what's the big deal?????

I'm dying to know why reviewers batter this game, cause the arguments they bring to the table hold up like a house of cards in a storm.

So people if you like GTA and driver 1 & 2, you will love this one.. But hey, dont take it from me, rent this sucker and find out..

It's like Driver 2 all over again41588

Yorkshireman from Yorkshire, England says (2/Jul/2004):
I waited with baited breath for Driver 2 way back on the PS1 only to be disapointed with a game that had been rushed out in time for the Xmas sales. Here we go again although there does not seem to be any reason to rush this one out. Maybe they had a deadline......who knows. All I do know is anyone running out to buy this before reading a reputable magazine review is going to waste their money. I played it at a friends house, just driving around the city, generally messing about and it looked and seemed fine. The character controls were a bit sketchy on foot but it didn't seem to be a problem.

That was until I sat down with my own copy at home and started up the main story. the intro was good, movie like. A mix of GTA and the getaway. I did the first intro mission, target shooting....okay. A quick chase the cop car mission to get to the first major mission.....still okay. Then BAM, shoot the bad guys - chase the escaping crim.......after 7 or 8 frustrating attempts it began to dawn on me that the learning curve was non-existent. The game had no mercy for tiny mistakes. You either get it right all the time or you fail.

Then I thought back to Stuntman, another good idea / reasonable game but one mistake and you may as well pause the game and retart the mission. This is exactly the same, there is hardly any lee-way here .If you dont get it absolutely right, you're gonna fail.

And its exactly the same events happening everytime you replay the mission, so as long as you retry and retry again. the only good thing is that you know exactly where the next car is coming from that will try and halt your proceedings. Its like the trueman show with Jim Carrey. You drive down the road and car X will appear at this moment. Pedestrian Y will exit their car at this position etc.....

By the time I'd made it the 5th mission I decided I'd better return it to the shop sharpish to get maximum trade price before I threw my controller at the TV.

They have spent all their time creating a movie like experience and forgot to make sure you can play it and enjoy it. If you have great patience and like playing linear games then go for it. If you like playing games for enjoyment and relaxation avoid this one big style. Its nothing like GTA and anyone saying it is cannot have played GTA for more than 10 minutes. I completed GTA3 and Vice and enjoyed every darn minute bar one or two frustrating missions. If you can play Driv3r for 1 hour and enjoy any minute (bar the non mission sequences) you are a lucky person.

The only enjoyment I got was watching pile ups in the fuzzy slow mo replay in the drive around section. I even attempted the first chase mission and managed to use a good dozen or so expletives before placing the disk back in its box.

Its alot more realistic than vice city but not as fun!!!!41450

MO Semakieh from peoria/ IL / USA says (24/Jun/2004):
ok I was planning on buying this game right when it comes out but a week befor it came out I got xbox live !!! so i bought online games and did not have to buy driver 3 but I rented it sense it looks good, ok the games graphics is great its like looking at the graphics of riddick!! the car phisics blows vice city out of the water, but the thing with it is that the missions are so hard and boring, and it rapeats it self, also the character model that you control through the game (tanner)is so blocky and gay, his movements are very unrealistic and he jumbs like a litle girl trying to jumb over the flowers, another ugly thing is that the cars also they drive alot better than vice city but about %85 of the cars in driver 3 are old and ugly, there are a lot of car selections as well as Motorcycles but they are didvied into 3 citys which means that every city got its own cars which makes look like its having few cars, now the good thing about this game is if you take a ride in the city you will have fun!! there are lot of cliffs you can jumb off from. and one more thing ITS NOT PLAYBLE ON LIVE!!! any way this is the closests thing to vice city, driver 3 killed every thing even vice city in its phisiscs and graphics but its not that fun (but its worth buying)!! if you like these kind of games!!
