Best Western Game ever43853

Ken from Lethbridge, Canada says (7/Jan/2005):
I've beaten Red Dead Revolver, and I can tell you that the General Diego mission can be done. Using the flare function of your rifle to mark the enemy cannons is ok, but not necessary to completing the level. If you want to avoid the cannon balls, stay under the bridge and stick with your men. Really go for those head shots. Diego's rifle is powerful enough that you can kill a man easily with one or two shots to the upper torso/head region. I played that level about 8 times before I completed it. As for the Grizzly guy, shot him in the face just as he is pausing to throw the knives at you. It does big damage. Just remember, if you shoot him too many times, he will fall off of his perch and come after you, and that's when he's really dangerous, because he can outrun you on the ground.

I have 3 major complaints with Red Dead Revolver and they are:

1. There are no accessable cheat codes out there for Red Dead you have to beat the game first, then unlock them all in Bounty Hunter mode. This makes it highly annoying, especially since you have to go through the hardest levels in the game to get them.

2. The Dueling system needs some SERIOUS improvement. Red is too slow to beat experts like Kelley for example (god, I can beat everyone else in game with a couple tries except for him. He makes me want to tear my hair out). Red should be able to increase the speed at which he draws and aims every time he wins a duel. And why can't he draw and fire from the hip like most other opponent's he faces? God I hate Kelley! There should be an option to skip that duel, because you don't even kill him in it anyway.

3. Improved AI for partner NPCs. I can't tell you how many times I was shot in the back by Annie or Jack in the mansion. They are practically useless most times, it's just two more asses I have to protect besides my own.

General Diego42002

Spencer from Chattanooga ,TN,USA says (27/Jul/2004):
The game is overall a great game, but the union army level, with Diego just plain makes me furious,i have tried it dozens of times, each time failing and walking away wanting to break something. On the other hand, the story line is great and the weapons are awsome, but once somone gets some codes ciculating,i and many other people can whoop that infuriating level. This game is a must have for people who love shooters.I have the ps2 version i clicked xbox on accident please change to ps2 forum

Great Game, easy play41987

Gary from california says (26/Jul/2004):
Rockstar put out a great game, I was expecting it to be longer though. I beat it in a few days of late night addiction. I really thought all bosses were fun to beat, even though the game started to get repitive. The change up in the characters added a revival to the game for me, plus getting extra spiffs for recieving an excellent on level completion. I recomend this game, especially to relieve the stress from work. Also, it is fun to play against your friends in duel mode.

not that hard if ur used to these41545

Nate Hunter from Mineapolis, USA says (29/Jun/2004):
i agree with some of these posts, put i didn't have too much trouble beating the game. maybe it's because i play video games too much or somethin, i dunno. but that general diego level sucks ass. i couldn't beat it for awhile. but what i found was to destroy as many of the u.s. cannons as u can before the guys come to set the charges. that way you don't get knocked over as much and u will have more time to kill those stupid american soldiers.
i would say the best part of this game was the different guns. i loved seeing all of those things and getting to kill people with them was even better. getting to play as red, buffalo soldier, diego, annie, and the english dude made the game really and the showdown feature is pretty cool. i liked playing as different characters and seeing what their special powers were. it was really cool.
overall, this game was awsome. i would have liked it to be a bit longer and a little less tuff, but what are you gonna do?

Good Times.41411

ZenCrux from Denver, CO, USA says (22/Jun/2004):
Somewhere, deep inside the Rockstar cave, there was some programmer dork who loved western movies. He tried and tried to convince everyone else to make a game but he got no help. Finally, in a desperate attempt he programmed a level of Red Dead. Rockstar played it and like the rest of us, thought "This is going to be a great game."

But the programmer, after talking about it and thinking about for so long, was now bored with the idea and was already working on San An. The game was completed, half-ass, and the rest is history...

That is how I imagin it anyhow.

TOP BLAST!41313

slartybardfarst from carlisle uk says (15/Jun/2004):
This level your all moaning baout is pizz easy, just follow the 2 guys in green who are planting the tnt and keep the army off them at close range, this took me about 5 mins.then one of the best cut sceenes in the game will follow.i got to the stagecoach level trying to shoot some indjuns off a cliff thats when i launched my pad accros the room and turned my console off for the night(3 am!) lol,the music in some of the levels sounds $#< remove me > at !e but on the whole is great(not preperation H!),it realy sucks you into the atmosphere of the old west,i loved the ranch level lol when he guys started shooting at the cattle to make them stampeed!,i actually got on one of the cattle and proceeded to mow down the enemy, ahahha great stuff.i hated the mine but thatas just because i hate maze typ stuff but its easy enough and not to many routes to get lost it.kiss the chick in the jail cell she gives u a kiss for $1 and it boosts ya health up,also inside the mine is a gun with 919 bullets!,find that if you can.and the old prospector in the canyon that gets a bullet in the neck....well if you can take out the guys that shoot him before he gets hit i heard he gives you a bag of gold mmmm.i would love to be able to find the high non mode,i cant find it and i have had my bud round for a gun battle but we couldnt access the duel mode...any idea?,perhaps i gotta complete this game first before it unlocks the duel(high noon) mode?.if ya aint got this game yet partner then i suggest yall mosey on down to blockbusters and russle yall a copy.yeeee haaaaa.

boss at the end of the bar brawl40973

Wiley from Carbondale, Illinois, USA says (21/May/2004):
After playing this guy several times and losing, I got very frustrated. Red simply can't move fast enough and the room is too small to keep your distance. I finally switched from the pistol to the broken bottle and found that hand to hand combat worked much better. In fact, the boss didn't get a single hit on me. Just hit him until he falls down, run behind him, and when he gets up, knock him down again. Using this technique, you'll make short work of him, and move on to the impossible Diego level, which I have been stuck on for two weeks.

40973

A gamer from Minot, USA says (16/May/2004):
This game is pretty fun, and although I found the guns and the story relatively interesting, some parts are very frustrating. Even though each boss has a different pattern to kill them, it seems to take many tries to figure it out( I still haven't figured out how to kill Grizzly on the Shadow Wolf level besides shooting him 200 times). The Character's are all complete Clint Eastwood rip-offs, but it's not like that's a bad thing. Even though Dueling is difficult, after awhile I got really used to it and even started enjoying it. Just because this is a Rockstar game, don't expect a GTA feel to it. This was the only real disappointment for me. It just would have been so cool to be able to have a stable to store horses and be able to walk around the Old West doing whatever you want. The multiplayer aspect of this game is great. It's not a grade A, but it makes for some very entertaining fun. Just watching four friends play High Noon (where each person duels each other) is enough to see the benefit of the multiplayer feature. All in all, it's a very fun game, and although it gets frustrating, there's an addicting quality about it that just makes you keep coming back for more.

You guys must suck40856

A gamer from Columbus says (14/May/2004):
I have put very little effort into this game and found the so-called "hard" missions took me four or five trys. Give me a break, if it seems too hard you're doing it wrong! get a brain and figure it out. If a boss takes 200 shots than you haven't figured it out. IDIOTS!

One of the best ever40836

The Gangsta from Bonham, Texas, USA says (12/May/2004):
Red Dead Revolver is a really great game that is fun to play. The Diego level is a challenge, but it is not impossible. The game could have been alot better though, if the fine people at Rockstar would have applied the freedom that you get in Grand Theft Auto to this game. This game would definetly be the best game ever invented if you could just shoot people up in Brimstone for no reason, or go into the saloon with it a little more trashy if you know what I mean, but all in all this game F***ing rocks! I hope there is a sequel and I can't wait for someone to find out some codes. This game was 50 bucks well spent if you ask me.

Awesome40801

Chad from Bloomington, IL says (9/May/2004):
Although this game was difficult, I think you guys need to quit bitching. This game was not that hard. I rented it and beat it the second night. Great game. It is great becuase it is so challenging. You Guys Are Weak. Just keeping playing and eventually, after years of crying about it, you will beat the game.

hmm40804

Kli from San Diego CA USA says (9/May/2004):
I dont know what you guys are talking about... The game gets more difficult but its far from impossible. It took me about 4 tries to beat that level, but thats only because i couldnt figure out how to shoot the flares using the right analog button. I am much farther now and have managed to beat every level with an excellent rating. At first Red Dead Revolver seems very very fun because you can tell it has so much potential, but very soon you figure out that it has a few drawbacks. overall its the little things (and theres a lot of them) that keep this game from getting stale, but leaves you wondering what if this game had lived up to its potential. 7 out of 10

I hate the fast draw40816

A gamer from California says (9/May/2004):
Currently I'm stuck on the 25th level, fighting a lame excuse for characters stolen from the 'Quick and the Dead'. That is a movie I like and shooting the Leonardo Decaprio clone was fun, but the final quick draw person I cannot beat. I hate the quick draw system, it's too slow and I find it hard to manage. It takes me multiple tries to finish off one guy. This game could also use a save on demand feature so I could make it through without having to repeat everything all the time.

Great Start40817

BROWNS RULE!!! from CLEVELAND, OHIO!!! says (9/May/2004):
I have been playing Red Dead all day today, and I am also at the Army part of the game, it sucks. I have tried the level nearly 20 times, and I just can't get past it. I am at the part where the two guys are setting bombs, and they do it for like 5+ minutes (that's as far as I get before they both die) I do LOVE the game play, the game handles a little weird at first, but after learning and doing the training, it is really fun. I just hope it doesn't get so damn difficult that I can't beat it. Anyone know any codes though? E-mail me if you know some cheats, I know the unlockables, I haven't found any cheats yet.

beating the diego mission isn't hard40790

JT from Boston says (8/May/2004):
To beat the mission with Gerneral Diego all you need to do is use your cannons. To do this, use his flare shot (special), it makes it almost too easy. AND it doesn't take that many shots to kill someone when you shoot them in the face. I've already beat the game twice (normal + hard) and I'm working on the 3rd with that wierd wood character.

Shootin' fish in a barrel40795

Enrique from Philadelphia USA says (8/May/2004):
Just completed normal level, where I was only able to score excellent on four of the levels. This ain't no easy game but it's heck of a lot of fun. Particularly if you like the genre. The music is great (not quite as good at LucasArts' old OUTLAWS). The story is interesting with a lot of exciting (if a bit cliched characters).
Now I'm blastin' my way through hard. The "dead eye" feature makes quicker work of the level bosses. And I really enjoyed the dueling opportunities. Though Kelly I must have dueled a hundred times before I nailed him and then I couldn't keep him from killing all the fine people of Brimstone.
It really helps to find a wall or rock to hide behind and get off the best shots you can. Aim for the head. Time your reloading with your enemies reloading and/or dancing/hobbling around and you'll get him or her. If you press them or lure them toward you, you can get them stuck in corners, or between boxes and even in gullies. Then it's like shootin' fish in a barrel.
Diego is a tough level, but not as tough as it gets. Stick close and protect your weaker soldiers that you've ordered to place the charges on the bridge. Shield them. And I appreciated that they let you fight as so many different characters.
The really fun levels involve trains and coaches. I enjoyed riding the stagecoach full of TNT with the Buffalo Soldier the most.
The dialogue is well done, with solid voiceover work.
The graphics I wish were a bit better when your aiming at opponents far away, but overall this game is definitely worth a look. I've been waiting for a Western and for my buck this is the best one since Outlaws.

Good game, Diego sucks40797

Jesse from Yucaipa, USA says (8/May/2004):
I agree with other reviews that this game is really fun but the diego section is freackin hard. I wish someone had some cheats so i can make my partners stronger or something cuz it sux i will wait to buy it when u guys have cheats. Graphics are good. It is way better than there other rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto series. GOD those sucked. I especially like swift and how he is more flashy about his gear compared to Red. Anywayz they made a good game just get some codes.

fun, but too hard at som points40779

Cabby says (7/May/2004):
I agree with some of the other posts. This game is incredibly to hard at some points, to the point where u want to spike the controller. I am past the battle royal tht takes place in brimstne, now can't beat mission at the governors mansion. Wave after wave of soldiers attack you. You hae 2 people helping you (Swift and Annie) but they don't do jack, and of course if they die, u lose. Most of the time it's one of them dying, not me. One of my biggest dislikes about certain video games is having to protect another person besides yourself. Give me a choice, what if i want to save my own skin and get out of there. How aboutsome cheats, because this level is starting to really get to me, and it's not really fun anymore.

red dead revolver, another one of those.40779

Q from cleveland. says (5/May/2004):
red dead revolver is one of those games ,about halfway through, if im even that far, gets to be way to hard not that when a game is difficult its a bad thing but when it takes 200 shots or more to kill one dude it sucks.and now im at a part of the game when you have to fight a army and every time you think your done or almost done,WRONG keep going, its like driver 2,you rember those radiculously hard missions.that took you days to beat.i had fun playing red dead revolver up to this point.

Fun to a point40767

fishbelly from ann arbor, USA says (5/May/2004):
I heartily agree with the previous review. This is a really fun game until you get to the General Diego section of the game. This part is ridiculously hard. Not only do you have to defeat an army basically by yourself, but the men on your team are weak and ineffectual. Also if any of these useless individuals are killed during the fight the mission is over then you must start this ENTIRE multiple part mission over again. So even if you are lucky and get further in the mission than you did the 40 or 50 times before, if one of the soldiers on your side dies START OVER. Some of the Boss fights are extremely monotonous (Rockstar, just because you make a boss have a lot of health points doesn't mean you don't have to make him change up his moves and attacks). The Boss at the end of the bar brawl is a perfect example. It's a dodge the charge attack shoot shoot shoot, dodge same attack shoot shoot shoot, again and again and again and again and again etc. etc. etc. Now it may seem that I hate this game. This is untrue, It is really fun and I'm sure that once there are some cheat codes out there and I can level skip past the General Diego section, I will soon enjoy playing it again. Overall the graphics are good. The combat system is interesting especially the gun duels. My advice to anyone out there who wants this game is to wait until it is cheaper and there are cheqats codes out there. I hate having to use cheats, but it is almost necessary. As the previous review stated, it does remind me of the most obnoxiously hard driver 2 missions.
