Great basketball game, but what's with the absence of good players?45010

John Doe from Wichita (KS), USA says (9/Jul/2005):
GOOD THINGS ABOUT NBA LIVE 2005:
Best graphics yet, except that the shining/lighting on the players is way to much. This makes the players look like they are way too unbelievable shiny, like they've all been dipped in a giant bucket of shiny, see-through oil. This player lighting makes their hair look like it has massive amounts of Soul-Glo/grease in it.
Franchise is greatly upgraded.
Players changing direction while in-air and switching the ball to the other hand in mid-air, and realistic in-air collisions, etc. The collisions and all that is greatly improved and cool. It is much more realistic.

BAD THINGS ABOUT NBA LIVE 2005:
Absence of great NBA players ()
There should be REAL Freestyle Air, as in the same as it is on the ground as you are in the air. You should be able to push the right analog stick left and the ball switches to the left hand at the last moment for a cool dunk, etc., you know, make the dunk yourself in stead of it adjusting on its own.
There should be a mode that allows you to take on the role of a player you choose, not just be a General Manager. You should also be able to be a Team Owner too. If you were able to be a player, you could go to a team of your choice, be the player you want to be, or create a player (maybe yourself) and live your own fantasy in the NBA as yourself being an NBA player. As a Team Owner you could change the team name, location, arena, colors, etc. This feature would be THE COOLEST thing in a basketball game, to be a player in a franchise.
It would be extremely cool to have your own created player's name actually announced in-game. Like, if his name is Michael Johnson (both Michael and Johnson being in the NBA) the announcer will say, when you score, "Michael Johnson, for 2!", instead of, "Number 22, for 2!." At least announce the names that are in the game for your created player. Although, if they recorded voice-overs of a load of syllables, you could specify what your name is pronounced like. Say your name is French or something and it's Jean Monet, you can specify the game to pronounce it "JHAHN MOHNAY", the French way, or for it to say it the Americanized way: "JAHN MOHNET".
The thing I hated MOST about this game, and the reason I give it my rating is because NBA Live 2005 doesn't have a bunch of players which are great players. These are the ones I can think of: Michael Jordan (what is ANY basketball game without the best b-ball player EVER, even if he is retired you should be able to unlock him or SOMETHING, an MJ-less b-ball game is no good game at all), Tyrone "Muggsy" Bogues (the shortest ever NBA player at 5'3", at least make another roster category or something, I don't know if he's a legend, but he's a cool player to have), Georghe Muresan and Manute Bol (not the best, but it would be cool to have the tallest ever NBA players also at 7'7"), Charles Barkley (huge disappointment that he's not in the game at all), Dennis Rodman (very cool to have as a defender, who cares about what he said, it's all about his moves on the court, if there were a game with rockstars would you take 90% of them out of the game because they did things like do drugs and bite bats heads off?, it's about the talent nothing else), Hakeem Olajuwon (wasn't in 2005, but was in 2004, what's that all about?), Patrick Ewing (huge disappointment he wasn't in 2005 or 2004, isn't he like a huge legend or something?-come on!), Liu Wei (he was cool with Yao Ming on the China team, and he was only in the NBA for a tiny bit, with the Kings, and I think he entered the NBA a little after 2005 was released, but players like this would be slightly cool to have in the game), John Stockton (strangely enough was in 2004, but not 2005, WHY?!, so he retired, whoopedy-doo!, put him in the legends pool if he is officially a legend, or put him in some new roster pool, just put people like this in the game!, stop taking things out of game sequels and just ADD more stuff, never take out things unless their glitches or mishaps), David Robinson (was in 2004 but not in 2005, for the same reason as Stockton I suppose, and watch, just because Karl Malone and Reggie Miller retire, watch them not put them in NBA Live 2006 for XBox 360!)
They, for some retarded reason, took out AWESOME features from 2004 such as: when you sign a new player in Franchise and it shows them in a tux, etc.; when a player is doing well or has high ratings and they are featured on the cover of a magazine; how you are able to choose the color scheme of the Main Title screen of the game, the My Favorite Team option (that option was very cool, especially when you can see the created player you just made in a jersey or when you can see a cool player in a new jersey as you just updated the game's rosters to make them match the current rosters of real life, in other words see Vince Carter in a Nets jersey instead of Raptors, etc.
Editing rosters and players is extremely tiring, they were much better in 2004, in 2005 you have to go to 5 different places just to change 1 player to the way he's supposed to be (say if he was just traded to another team). Created players is VERY disappointing, since there is hardly anything to choose from, 2004 was better yet it was disappointing too. There should be WAY more options. Also, what's with your created player's photo being some asian guy in shadows? At least make it the created game face or something. Also, it's cool to have the player's actual real photos but maybe there should be an option to switch from that or have the game face displayed, because: when players are traded to other teams, half of the time do their new jerseys display properly (if I want to put Larry Johnson on a team other than Lakers I should be able to without it displaying purple and yellow).
You should be able to switch to a different team or control multiple teams in Franchise Mode if you want to, so that you and your friends could be GMs in Franchise at the same time, give each other trade offers, etc. (if you're playing Franchise and you do what I do and always have the rosters completely up-to-date, there is no option to say change Vince Carter to the Nets when he gets traded, unless you control the Nets and make an offer or something.) You should be able to have MUCH more 'controlability' in Franchise Mode, also there should be many more options in Season too.
Why can you only have 1-on-1 and not be able to go somewhere else besides a rusty gym? Why not 2-on-2, 3-on-3, 4-on-4, 5-on-5? Be able to go 3-on-3 on the Wolves homecourt or 2-on-3 on a street court? You could go urban, etc. in 2004. Expand the non-normal NBA aspects of the game.
Probably THE COOLEST THING would be making your own team(s) from scratch, locating it, name it, coloring it, etc. It wouldn't be too hard to write a uniform construction program for the game and create a name pronouncing program.

overall game44612

wade county from miami says (27/Apr/2005):
if your looking for a game that allows you to really manage a team this is it. as for the graphics they look way to cartoonish but it still cant be touched. pesonally iam asking the people at
EA to make player creation better you should be able to pick what your shot looks like i mean who doest want to look like tmac when they hit that three. also please iam all for defense but how do you get blocked in a breakaway. and whats this about not having MJ on the game its crazy. all star weekend was incredible no regrets. although in the next game you should definatly get contracts from big company's. p.s. can anyone tell me why its so hard to trade draft picks.

irvin from richmond,tx usa says (12/Apr/2005):
ok my favorite team is the houston rockets and i am very happy that we got steve francis out the rockets cause he SUCKS.T-Mac is way better. It would be nice if MJ would be on the game cause he invented some of the dunks and other nba players cannot do those dunks. At least not everybody. so please come up with a code to get MJ on the game.ALso dont forget he is hte best player ever played the game. Yall probably do have a code but let us know and at least put it in the internet.and also i think my favorite tracy mcgrady is underated cause he is better than 90 and better than Kobe.

Where's MJ?!?!44525

natedogg from Manchester, NH says (10/Apr/2005):
First off, I'm a big fan of NBA Live 2005, but Lets be real here.. Wheres Michael Jordan??? Its weird how users can earn points for Air Jordan Shoes but Jordan himself is not mentioned at all in the game. He should be in every NBA game HANDS DOWN. best player of all time. Also, I found a few players under rated. Overal, its the best bball game out. Thanks EA

THINGS EA SPORTS HAS TO ADD TO NBA LIVE 2005!!!!!!!!!!44511

Tyler from Detroit,Michigan,USA says (9/Apr/2005):
When Shaq takes it strong to the net if he slams it down hard enough not all the time but once in a great while the backboard should collapse. Also wheres Michael does he not want to be on the game.IFnot make his ratings the same and give him another name like micheal jordane.to when the player swishes the net should fly up.and how richard hamilton makes those baskets where it hits the side of the rim the the net flys do that.and when pros the ball hits the back of the rim and the net doesnt move do that.and please rate tayshaun prince higher.

This is the best basketball game Live has made44385

Johnny Wynn from Tucson Arizona USA says (22/Mar/2005):
I like the deeper dynasty, recent rosters, All Star weekend. What it need to complete it is that MJ needs to be in legend pool, be unlockable or somthin. What i dont like about the games is in the dynastys, the rookies suck like none under. A lot of upcoming rookies in real life are better than veterans, and there should be more very strong draft debts, and i think that if you scout players they should have player ratings. The calander in the dynasty mode is good, it is just the rookies you draft that is bad

WHERE'S THE GREAT AIR JORDAN?44385

nba live addict from New York, USA says (18/Mar/2005):
NBA LIVE 2005 is definitely the sports video game of the year.
But it will certainly draw a lot of NBA fanatics if Michael Jordan would grace the show. The graphics and real life movement of the players would surely fit Michael Jordan's spectacular moves...killer cross overs, above the rim slam dunks, in your face slams, reverse lay-ups (with 4 players challenging) and the famous fade away shot. Is there a way I can unlocked Jordan in the game. It will be a lot more exciting and exhilirating to see Jordan do his very own rock 'a bye baby slam dunk in the All-Star weekend. Please in the next nba live, please include all Legends. I appeal to the EA Sports game designers and programmers, please don't miss including the players that belong to the nba 50 greatest players. Thank you.

The game was awesome, but it needs more qualities.44208

Carlos Landeros from Los Angeles, California, USA says (23/Feb/2005):
The game was awesome, but it needs more qualities. make the player create their own team, relocating teams, changing there uniforms, a newspaper, built arenas, the teams can make money and lose money. A speciel request is a Commisioner mode. You can control expension teams, make channels televise teams, Control the draft, issue a salary cap, make new expansion teams, suspend players, name the MVP, announce certain issues.

JNUM from FT. Richardson,AK USA for 9FEB 200544083

A gamer from USA says (9/Feb/2005):

The same about where's MJ and Larry Bird, But I also think the Graphics from NBA live 2003 was the best ever. I love 2005's features and new ideas's, There has not been any better B-Ball game like it, But Why take away from what the other games had like the real all-star 90's roster and other player's that could of made this the Dynasty of all B-Ball games ever.

A Genius Created this43781

mocon from Sacramento, California, USA says (31/Dec/2004):
A genius created this!!!!!!!! How could anyone muster up the idea of All-Star Weekend? This is the only game that exaggerates a player's abilities. The way the dunk selection is gives you a killer variety of dunks, at least 200. The 3 point shooting contest shows a players authentic shot style, especially T-MAC's. The only problem is that Jermain Oneal is my favorite basketball player and they made it harder for people who cant shoot to shoot threes. The rookie challenge gets different reviews, though. Its hard when the highest rated player on the rookie team is 70 and the sophmores have people in the high 80s ( Dwight Howard is the best on the Rookie team, in my opinion). The graphics are better and the superstar mode is definitely a lot harder than the past NBA lives. The pda at dynasty mode is great and so is the injury report.

Good:
Graphics
Gameplay
AllStar Weekend
PDA
New Rebound abilities - Dunk tip and regular tip
Dynasty and Season mode

Bad:
Like most sporst games, bored within a week
Same commentators Marv and mike
Rookies still under rated
You Can't Beat Me

where the hell is MJ43770

j from ontario,canada says (22/Dec/2004):
This is the best nba game ever but the only problem is there is no micheal jordan. There has to be a way to unlock him but I just cant find a cheat or any other way to get him in the game . The allstar weekend and all of the other features int nba live 2005 make it the best ever but all it needs is a touch of MJ.

Cant get much better than this.43043

Andre Johnson from Houston, Texas USA says (6/Nov/2004):
First of all, NBA Live has been the best basketball series of all time. But the slam dunk contest made it a 100% better. When I first got the game thats all I would do. This year they even refined the graphics to where they are better than the ESPN series. Currently I'm plying the franchise mode. And let me tell you that the franchise mode is the deepest it has been. The offseason tasks are listed on the calendar like it would be in a real GM's office. As far as sound, Mike Fratello and Marv Albert are reterning as the two announcers for this years installment. The variety of the words they use are quite repititive, but if you dont like to hear the two yapping all the time, you can easily turn the volume down and listen to the music. There are only two things that I don't like about NBA Live. First, the ratings do not accurately represent the player's skills in real life. Second, if you do a fantasy draft everybody is above the salary cap so trading players is nearly impossible. Those two things are minor so it doesn't really affect the gameplay or whatnot. So if your new to NBA Live, I suggest you rent it first. But if you play it you will obviously know why everybody loves it so much.

The Hottest Game Ever!!42893

A gamer from Syracuse, NY USA says (23/Oct/2004):
NBA LIVE 2005 is the hottest baskettball game ever to be made so far. I play it online and you get the same results when your playing the game. Just still wondering where the hell is Michael Jordan. Just think how hot it would be to do the slam dunk contest with MJ doing his signature dunks. The game is "SICK" just go get it if you don't your a fool.

where's whitey?!42835

pinkflamingo from Bradley Il 60915 says (16/Oct/2004):
First of all we all know the nba is racist. I mean who are they tring to kid. Even the white guys try to be black, (the stupid wiggers.) I thought that black people were a minority but all I ever see is crap running up and down the court. And those stupid Europeans! Crap! They're worse than the blacks! I want white america on the court! It's not racial equality if its all euro trash and slum babies. And Jason Kidd, what a wigger. In his rookie year you could tell he was white but now I don't know.
When a white guy joins the nba is like rubbing dirt allover his body, you cant tell if they're clean underneath or if they were born that way. I'm not racist or anything but this is really making me mad! I tired of going down to the local getto and hearin, "look at that honkey, this cracker cantthrow the ball fo nothing. I eat honkeys like this for breakfeast, come on nips."
To the editors:I am not racist nor do I have antinationality concents. I simply am expressing the fellings of every white b-ball player to ever play with getto scum. I do not think blacks nor euros will be afended by this or I would not of written it.

This game is the best basketball game ever!!!42747

Matthew Shirley from Dacusville, South Carolina says (4/Oct/2004):
This game is so cool because of the Slam Dunk Contest and 3 Point Contest. The graphics are great!! This game has updated rosters from August 27th. That is unbelieveable, usually the rosters are from 6 months before the game comes out. You should buy this game it is awesome
